Courier's Journal: Week One

From the diary of Robert Edwin House, 10/22/2281:

Nipton appears to be on fire. I don't have any equipment close enough to observe it myself, but the smoke is clearly visible for miles around. Based on their recent movements, there's a high probability that this was the Legion's doing, following up on their recent attack on Camp Searchlight. It fits their pattern. If so, this will be highly demoralising news for the NCR, which may well be to my long term advantage, but this early in my plans it may do more harm than good. I will have to consider how to use this information. If this is indeed a Legion attack, it may be better to have Mr. New Vegas keep it vague for the moment, and wait to see how the NCR responds.

On the other hand, Nipton was also known to be popular with the Powder Gangers, and that courier from Goodsprings was last seen heading towards the town, shortly before the first reports of smoke began reaching me.

I'm sure it's a coincidence. It's far more likely that this was the Legion's doing. It's highly improbable that the courier would have burned down an entire town out of a crazed lust for revenge against a hapless gang of thugs like the Powder Gangers, even if he has killed a frankly astonishing number of them already.

But it intensely bothers me that I cannot rule it out as a possibility.

Author's notes:

Not really much to say about this one. I just really like Mr. House. He's such a fun and memeworthy character, and I love writing him.

RIP René Auberjonois. You really brought the world of the Mojave to life.
