"Doesn't Stuart understand Christmas was on Tuesday? There was no need for the comic book store to be closed yesterday," Sheldon complained while Leonard parked his car, having returned from their weekly trip to the comic book store. "He's completely ruined my schedule for the week."

Leonard rolled his eyes at the man in the passenger seat, "We have this week off of work. Having to wait until this morning to get your new comic books isn't upsetting your schedule that much. Your schedule will be fine for the rest of the week."

"I still don't like it," Sheldon huffed, climbing out of the car.

Following his roommate to the front of the building, Leonard paused as they approached Penny's car. Nudging Sheldon, the pair stopped, watching the occupant of the vehicle, crying and banging her hands against the steering wheel. "Do you think we should see if she's alright?"

"I'm going inside," Sheldon proceeded toward the door of the building.

"I'm going to check on her. I've never seen her this upset." Sheldon continued inside as Leonard tapped on the passenger window of Penny's car. The waitress leaned across the car and opened the door. Opening it further, Leonard bent forward to question her, "Are you okay?"

Wiping at the tears rolling down her cheeks with her sleeve, Penny shook her head. "My stupid car won't start. Today is quite possibly the worst day for this to be happening."

Leonard climbed into the passenger seat and sat for a minute as Penny worked to compose herself. Finally, he broke the silence that had fallen over the pair, "I can give you a ride to work." As the words left his mouth, he noticed she wasn't wearing her work uniform. "Or wherever you were going since it doesn't look like you're going to work."

"I don't work until later. I have a doctor's appointment that I cannot miss. It's all the way across town. I can't ask you to spend your afternoon driving me that far."

"You didn't ask. I offered. I've got nothing else to do today besides listening to Sheldon complain about the comic book store being closed yesterday and how that ruined his schedule for the entire week. Please let me help you. You'll be saving me from Sheldon being insufferable," Leonard pleaded his case.

Penny sighed and glanced at the man sitting next to her, "I don't know, Leonard. You don't want to drive me to the gynecologist."

"Please let me drive you. I'll stay in the car and I won't ask you about it when you're done. You'll be giving me an hour of quiet to read my new comic books while I wait for you. Please save me from spending the entire day with Sheldon."

"What time is it?"

Checking his watch, Leonard replied, "Ten fifty-five."

"Fine," she relented. "My appointment is at eleven-thirty, so we'd better get going."

Leonard was engrossed in his newest comic book when the sound of the passenger door opening pulled him back to reality. Tucking the book back in the bag on the floor of the passenger seat, he questioned her, "You said you work later. Do you want me to drop you off at the restaurant or go home?"

"I'm not going to work today. I just need to go home and be alone the rest of the day."

Twisting in his seat to face his friend, he hesitated before speaking, "I know I said I wouldn't ask you about it, but you're starting to worry me. Are you okay?"

"No," Penny was blinking back tears. "I'm not okay and I don't know what to do. Maybe I should go to work. I could really use the money now."

"Okay. Um, are you sick? Do you have cancer or something?"

Penny let out a sob, "That would almost be a relief. No, I'm not sick."

Watching her, Leonard was unsure what to think. "So, what's going on that you're so upset? I know I've only known you a few months, but I've never seen you like this."

"Remember when we talked after Thanksgiving and I said I slept with someone? Think about it, Leonard. Why would I need to go to the gynecologist?"

Leonard's eyes grew wide as he pieced together the information he'd just been given, "Omigod! You're pregnant!" Penny nodded before Leonard began to question her. "You only said you slept with someone. Do you know who the father is? Have you told him yet? What are you going to do?"

"I don't know what I'm going to do. I needed to see the doctor before I decided anything. Yes, I know who the father is; and no, I haven't told him yet. I didn't tell you who it was that I slept with because I didn't want you to be angry with me."

"It's Kurt's, isn't it? He's the only one who makes sense. I don't know any of your other friends and would have no reason to be angry with you for sleeping with them after we kissed."

Penny blinked back tears again, "Yes, it's Kurt's. I didn't tell you because I care about you and I know how hurt you would be if you knew. Please don't be angry with me. I was drunk and wasn't thinking clearly. I wish I could go back and make Kurt leave before I followed you to your apartment."

Reaching across the center console, Leonard grasped Penny's hand in his. "I promise I wont' say anything to the guys until you're ready for them to know. Let me know if you need anything, okay?" Penny remained silent as she nodded and offered him a small smile. "Let's head home."

Late that afternoon, Penny paced her living room with her phone in her hand. She finally found the nerve she had been looking for and pressed the button under her thumb. "Penny. Hi. Haven't heard from you since you threw me out after your Halloween party. You looking to get together again?" Kurt answered his phone almost immediately before Penny could hang up.

"Actually," Penny sat on her couch and pulled a pillow to her chest. "I wanted to talk to you about that."

"You can't come over here, but I can be at your place in about twenty minutes," he offered.

Penny cringed, "This isn't a booty call. I'm calling to tell you I'm pregnant and you're the father. I went to the doctor this morning and they confirmed it happened on Halloween."

"You need money or something?" Kurt asked through the phone. "I don't have much, but I'm sure I can come up with some in a few weeks. When do you need it by? If it's from Halloween, you've still got a few weeks, right?"

"I haven't decided what I want to do yet. I wanted to tell you and give you a chance to step up if I decide to keep the baby, but it sounds like you aren't interested in doing that. I'll let you know what I end up deciding. You probably want to get back to whoever you've got over."

"Okay, um, it was good to hear your voice," Kurt replied before Penny ended the call.

Tossing her phone on the coffee table, Penny put the pillow she had been clutching to her chest over her mouth a let out a muffled scream. "What the fuck am I supposed to do now?" She yelled to the empty room.
