The next few weeks before the regular academic year resumed were pure bliss for Severus and Lily.

Lily spent those last days of her recovery lounging in Severus's arms while they chatted and delighted in one another.

Severus clung to every second spent in his darling's loving presence.

The happiness the couple had shared regrettably became threatened as their seventh year at Hogwarts began.

Severus was more determined than ever to stay by his beloved flower's side.

Lily didn't mind the whispers of the other girls as she walked through the stone corridors.

That's all they were to her, meaningless whispers.

No one would dare say anything to her face, not after her attack against the Marauders in fifth year.

Every single one of her friends had abandoned her except for Severus, but Lily did not grieve the loss of her social connections.

Severus had seen her for what she was, what she had become, and he had loved her still.

Lily determined her unusual condition had helped her learn a single truth…….Severus belonged to her as she belonged to him.

Seventh year Slytherin and Gryffindor students encountered more opportunities to take classes without seeing one another than any other year as each witch or wizard pursued the qualifications for their desired career paths.

Each day, Lily's Divination class occurred during Severus's Transfiguration period.

The couple stealthily used their time apart to their mutual advantage.

Every morning, they agreed upon a new time to meet later that afternoon.

Severus would raise his hand in class just as Lily raised hers, a short distance across the castle.

"Yes, Miss Evans?" Professor Trelawney blinked.

"Yes, Mr. Snape?" Professor McGongagall's response came to her student's inquiry.

Mumbled excuses allowed them both to leave their classrooms a moment later for simultaneous visits to the lavatory, then Severus and Lily would each sneak quietly down the hall during that time each day.

One afternoon, Lily hid inside the entrance to the abandoned girl's lavatory and smirked as she waited for Severus to join her there.

His uneven steps sounded nervous, but a few moments later, he cautiously peered around the entrance, only to find himself greeted by Lily's glowing, green eyes.

He started suddenly, caught off guard by her nearness before the happy giggle she let out soothed him into a state of calm.

"Did I frighten you, Sev?" Lily asked with a bright smile.

"Hardly." Severus answered in his low purr as he let Lily take his hand and guide him into the lavatory.

Silently, they snuck into the stall in the left most corner of the cavernous bathroom.

Lily locked the door behind them as Severus whispered, "You surprised me, that's all."

He watched her chuckle as she placed her hands on his chest and gazed into his face.

As she took a step forward, the edge of the toilet rubbed against the back of his robes.

"We could use the Room of Requirement, you know." He whispered in his seductive voice, "The setting would be more……..romantic."

Lily's green eyes flashed eagerly before she stood on her toes and pressed her lips against his.

The Room of Requirement saw plenty of use from the couple who crept from their beds each night to meet there and fall into each other's arms.

As Severus's kiss traveled from Lily's mouth down her jawline and onto the sensitive flesh of her neck, she wrapped her arms around him.

A small cry escaped her throat as he pushed her gently against the stall, ashamed he hadn't been better able to control himself.

Severus Snape usually held the rules in the highest regard.

Somehow though, when Lily's nails clawed at his robes and she moaned his name with her plush lips, Severus became quite talented at disobeying authority.

The couple kept their afternoon trysts bitterly brief.

Each day, less than fifteen minutes after they had left, Severus and Lily both returned to their respective classrooms and took their seats without a single glance at their peers.

Severus did well at discreetly straightening his robes and combing his hair into place with his fingers, yet Lily's appearance sent whispering giggles circulating through her classmates.

Her robes and hair were in place, but everyone knew no ordinary trip to the lavatory would cause the deep, glowing radiance exhibited on her pink cheeks.

Despite their love affair, Severus and Lily's sentiment could not blot out the vast darkness that gradually began to consume Britain's wizarding world.

To their dismay, the couple found themselves greedily used as pawns in a game they were hopeless to control.

Voldemort relied on Severus as his servant and facilitator for a meeting with the trio of ancient sirens who had attacked Lily in the grotto.

Lily became leverage against the wizard her race longed to destroy.

One dreary, rainy afternoon, as water poured down over the grey ocean, Severus and Lily brought their respective parties to the same grotto in that faraway place where Lily's eyes and tongue had been cruelly taken.

Severus stood by Voldemort's side and frowned at his love while she sat next to the sirens on the rocks, naked, covered only by her lengthy, red hair.

Voldemort used his best manners as he cracked a wide smile while he faced the scowling sirens, threw up his arms, and announced, "What a fine day it is to have a meeting between our peoples! I thank you all very much for allowing me the exquisite pleasure of standing in your presence!"

Severus watched the sirens lengthen their spines and raise their chins at his dark master's flattery.

Voldemort has mastered the art of charismatic speech, but his overly kind words proved not to help as much as he would have liked.

"Speak your business, then, land walker." Circe commanded as she crossed her arms, "Our ancient flesh longs for the surf. If we are kept away from the tide for too long, we will surely shred yours…..That is the nature of our condition."

"Of course, of course." Voldemort nodded with an eerie grin, "I would never dare inconvenience women as beautiful as you four…….Forgive me, I have only come to enter into an official agreement with you, something more binding than the one which the young couple present have already vowed."

The sirens all glanced between Lily and Severus as Voldemort gestured to them with a pale hand.

"Of what do you speak, land dweller?" Raidne asked as she narrowed her eyes, "The girl is hardly one of us yet, we cannot dictate-"

"-The girl is of siren blood!" Voldemort hissed as he dropped his polite ruse, "Of that, I am certain! She has agreed, with my loyal follower's permission, to give their future daughter to me as my wife one day! Promise it so, all three of you! Once the child is born and comes of age, she will be mine and I will be in line to-"

"-Marriage and mating agreements have no jurisdiction under the waves." Ligeia cut in as she snorted and crossed her arms.

Voldemort snarled while Circe echoed, "That is correct, land walker…..The sirens and the sea care little about arrangements made by those on the land of ordinary men. No one controls the ocean. Once cannot own it, and certainly, no one may tame it, rule it, possess it……..Not even us. You speak with a fool's tongue……Your grandiose ambitions are too much and one day, they will lead to your end! Mark our words!"

Severus could tell by the way Voldemort gnashed his teeth that their message had not been well-received.

To Lily's delight, Voldemort chose to apparate away without exciting violence, but as she and Severus watched the sirens disappear into the water one by one, dread gripped their hearts.

He knew his dark master would not take "no" for an answer.

Severus was certain the sirens' resistance to curses had been the only thing which had kept them alive that night.

His assumption was correct.

As Voldemort returned from his meeting, he nearly ruined his hiding place in an exhaustive fit of hateful rage.

Somewhere between the tattered floorboards, the ripped wallpaper and the broken, wooden furniture, underneath a heap of discarded draperies, one possession of the Dark Lord's remained purposely untouched.

The black diary Voldemort had used during his boyhood continued to be very important to him for various reasons, though neither Severus nor Lily knew of its existence at all…...

While the Dark Lord's fury brewed like a gathering storm over the next few weeks, Lily found herself walking through Hogsmeade early one Saturday morning while Severus and the majority of the castle's other inhabitants slept.

She kept her head down as she quietly entered a brick building on the last street, signed her name on a roll of parchment at the desk, and sat down in one of the lobby's many chairs.

Lily hadn't been waiting for more than ten minutes when a door swung open and a smiling witch called out, "...Miss Evans?"

"Yes?" Lily asked as she stood.

"The midwife will see you now." The witch announced.

Lily drew a deep, shuddering breath as she followed the woman through the door and down the hallway towards the examination rooms.

—————————————————————-

"There you are, love, try to relax." The midwife cooed to Lily in a soothing voice while she worked between her patient's legs.

Lily took a deep breath and stared up at the ceiling as she tried to ignore the exam being conducted on her while she laid on the table, bare from the waist down with a stranger's hand inside her most intimate place.

"You say you've missed a cycle, my dear?" The midwife asked.

"Yes….." Lily frowned, "Sometimes my stomach doesn't feel quite right, especially if it's empty….and my breasts ache too….I can hardly button my blouses now."

When the midwife failed to answer, Lily glanced down and watched her scowl as she completed her study.

The midwife's scowl faded into a smile as she looked up and nodded, "Yes, well, that's easily explained, isn't it?!"

"I beg your pardon?" Lily frowned.

"You're with child, my dear girl!" The midwife chortled, "I believe your condition is overwhelmingly likely to be the cause of those pesky symptoms you've had as of late."

With child.

With child.

……….With child?

Lily's green eyes widened as she gazed at the midwife with her mouth open.

H-How would she graduate?

How would she tell Severus?

In the spinning shock of that moment, however, Lily couldn't help but wonder…..What if the baby living inside her womb……was a girl?

Had she already conceived the daughter of whom Voldemort had spoken?
