Part 1: Arcstar Crusaders

Theme 1: Tomorrow's Kings - Dragonforce

Jaune's head spun as he staggered through the streets of Vale, his mind not focusing on the coming ground or the people around him but the talk he had with his grandfather.

The year had been going well for Jaune so far. His team was nice enough, even if Nora was a little crazy now and then, or all the time she was still sweet and loyal, a trait shared by his other two teammates and best friends. Honestly, he wouldn't trade them for the world which made going off on vacation next week quite difficult. He could go home his mom and dad would sure be happy about that, but now he didn't know. Not after his grandfather called him last week and asked to meet for lunch.

The young Arc agreed without hesitation, after all his grandfather was a strong Hunter, not even retired in his older age and it was said nothing could defeat him. His line was one of heroes after all on both sides of his family, and while Arnold Arc was a fierce huntsman he was long out of the game giving him time to spend with his family. Joseph Joestar, the father of his mother Holly on the other hand was rarely present for Jaune's life busy with missions and unable to move with his daughter making the young arc all the happier to connect with the mostly unknown family member.

Sadly the meeting was much more intense than he'd have ever thought it could be.

Jaune entered the restaurant, it was a quiet place with only ten tables total, only three of which had any occupants, one held his grandfather Joseph Joestar.

"Hey grandpa Joseph, how are you?" Jaune asked, taking a seat across from the older man.

"I'm doing good Jaune, how have you been enjoying your stay at Beacon?" Joseph asked as he sipped on a cup of coffee. his grandson practically spit the water out of his mouth. "Don't worry your parents still think you're working at that prep school, I'm not gonna rat out my only grandson," Joseph finished with a chuckle.

"It's ah, going well grandpa I'm team leader actually and I've made lots of progress," Jaune said after swallowing a mountain of bile threatening to come out.

"Good, I've heard your training was going well from my friend James, of course, it never hurts to ask in person. Oh, waitress! Can I get a glass of water, a cola for the boy, and an extra Atlesian black for someone on their way, thank you, anyways Jaune it's good to see you again," Joseph said.

"Oh uh yeah, it's great seeing you too. I haven't seen you in years," Jaune responded. soon after a ring could be heard from the door causing a smile to arise out of Joseph.

"Sorry I'm late, Oz wouldn't believe that I'm here without a reason so I had to give him one, good to see you again Joseph. It is a pleasure to meet you, Jaune Arc." the newcomer said, a tall man in a pristine white suit walked over sitting down at the table. "It really is a pleasure to meet you Jaune, I've made sure to keep a subtle eye on your progress in beacon although I must say I'm disappointed you never sent an application to Atlas academy," he finished, taking a sip of the fresh coffee.

"I uh, I thought about it but I didn't think I'd get accepted into Atlas academy sir, your school is very um, very prestigious and I don't think I have what it takes to join," Jaune stuttered his mind panicking at the general and headmaster in-front of him.

"Nonsense, you wouldn't have even needed to forge transcripts I'd have been happy to accept the grandson of my good friend Joseph and more so to help you surpass his level from back in the day," the general said, causing Jaune to choke once more on his drink. "Don't worry you're not in trouble, Ozpin may be aware of your transcripts but he's content to allow you to stay in his academy, and even if he wasn't you'd always have a place at Atlas."

"T-thanks for the information sir," Jaune managed.

"As fun as it is to see you choke on your soda son, I'm afraid we have more serious matters to discuss today." Joseph began, Ironwood's attention snapped and his relaxed demeanor died in an instant, "Jaune, the reason I called you here today is because a great evil has resurfaced and it's our job as Joestars to fight it."

"What are you talking about? What does being Joestars have to do with fighting this evil?" Jaune asked, his question was met with ironwood placing a folder on the table.

"A few weeks ago a ship crashed into a port off the shore of Vacuo, no crew members were on this vessel but they found plenty of clothes and, a coffin with the name Dio engraved on it, you see Jaune one hundred years ago my grandfather Jonathan Joestar did battle against Dio it cost him his life in the end, that monster is no doubt causing more problems and we must stop him."

"But, how could it be the same man? And I thought your grandpa died in an accident at sea, that's what mom told me."

"My boy, Dio caused that accident. He wanted to take His body to restore himself before he died. Dio is not a mortal man, he has been infected and turned into more of a Grimm than a man. The result of an old experiment by a very evil lady, but that's a story for another time, for now, we must make our way to Vacuo to stop Dio once and for all," Joseph said.

"Atlas and the SDC have been on high lookout, we've discovered a man matching DIO's description making his way towards Vacuo slowly, I believe he's currently in Cairo due to the increase of Grimm cutting the city off and the lack of communication from anyone within, drones have confirmed people still existing there but they're working on something, I believe he's fortifying his location to make a new capital." Ironwood cut in.

"That sounds most likely, how soon can we get there?" Joseph requested.

"A week I'd say, we can't leave the city easily with me here it would cause Ozpin too much concern since I'm not supposed to leave till the vital festival's conclusion so we need to sneak out, I'd say it's safer to go through the wilderness and get to an old Atlesian outpost hidden a while away, I've spoken to the SDC they'll have a shuttle fully loaded ready for us to head to an outpost near Cairo." The general said.

"The SDC?" Jaune began even more confused, "is Wiess involved in some way? I thought Atlas had the best technology and army in remnant?"

"We do, we have the only standing army in fact but right now Ozpin shouldn't know about Dio, he doesn't trust me and I doubt he'd act fast enough to save the people so we need to make our move fast, the military also has too many layers Dio could already have spied infiltrating our ranks."

"The SDC however, was in part founded by a good friend of mine, Robert Speedwagon and when he died a controlling share of the company fell to me, we also have a secret division within the company well screened and loyal made to help the Joestar family on our missions, which does in fact include you Jaune," Joseph said.

"This, this is all so unbelievable, a hundred-year-old Grimm man? Do we own part of Wiess's company? How do we even kill him if he's been alive so long!" Jaune asked.

"I know it's a lot, but it's true and there is a way to kill him, in fact, we Joestars are exceptional at it," Joseph began, he took a deep breath and picked up the glass of water, turning it upside down as Jaune watched shocked as no water fell out of the glass. "This is Hamon, an art form all but forgotten in history, it's used to channel light and power through our blood and breath, we Joestars are exceptionally talented with Hamon, through this we will kill Dio once and for all."

"This, this is insane," Jaune breathed his mind spinning and body shaking.

"It is, and if I didn't know Joseph as well as I did I wouldn't believe him either Mr. Arc, but it's real and from all the studies I've attempted even learning Hamon myself, only two bloodlines in recent history can effectively use Hamon to the fullest ability one of which is the Joestars," Ironwood said letting a faint gold ripple flow over his arm with a deep breath, "I tried myself to learn but I'm afraid I can't manage much, you, on the other hand, are a Joestar and an Arc, your blood is filled with heroes on both sides, and make no mistake Dio is going to be after you as a Joestar, he's an evil we must destroy soon as we can, that's why I've made the arrangements with Ozpin and Joseph to pull you from school tomorrow so we can move, provided you're willing."

"I- I think I need a minute," Jaune said, not waiting for the others to respond. He got up and started walking out of the restaurant, down the street wandering aimlessly through the streets of Vale.

The meeting kept replaying in his mind well after dark, he somehow found himself back at the bullhead docks sitting in front of them, the threat of Dio burning over and over in his mind causing his body to shake, but he couldn't understand his shaking, fear? Sure the threat was terrifying but he was stronger than he used to be not afraid of a good fight; Anticipation? But he didn't agree yet, though from the sound of it Dio wouldn't let him have a choice, Determination? For what? He all but ran out of the shop: Jaune couldn't understand what he was feeling anymore, so he did what he always did. He pulled out Crocea Mors, the ancestral blade of the Arcs always calmed him, focused his mind, and made choices easier.

"Look at the hilt."

Turning around, Jaune saw general Ironwood approaching, taking a seat next to the young blonde.

"I know, It says luck," Jaune said, rubbing his finger across the cold metal.

"One hundred years ago, your great-great-grandfather Jonathan Joestar did battle with Dio, it took me and Joseph awhile to uncover the full story but during that quest, he found an ancient blade used by heroes, it broke but the hilt remained, during the Great War the arc family used that very sword and shield to defend as much of humanity as it could, funny enough, it broke too. Not in the war, but when Arnold Arc was with your parents on vacation not long before they got married when Grimm attacked, an Ursa stomped on the hilt and snapped the sword from it. Joseph and I tracked this hilt down years ago and when your parents wed Joseph and Arnold's gift was to join Jonathan's sword and the Arc family blade, now that sword belongs to you Jaune, make no mistake what we're asking you is dangerous, but you have the blood of the Arcs and Joestars coursing through your veins, I'm sure you'll be a magnificent warrior."

Jaune's eyes drifted once more to the blade, suddenly he could see where the metal was fused seamlessly together, and he felt a burning sensation.

"I'm in"
