Along the way Miroku and Mikaboshi stopped at a few places of ill repute however it didn't hold the same appeal for Mikaboshi as it once had.
The modern day strip clubs held no interest for him and the alcohol had not fared well over the centuries becoming weak and tasteless.
"No, I don't think it's the booze or the girls." Miroku said loudly over the blaring music. "It's because you my friend are in love and love can change a man whether he is a mortal, a demon, or a god."
Glancing around Mikaboshi pondered it for a moment before speaking.
"Then why are you here? Did marriage and a woman not settle you down?" He questioned curiously.
"For a time it did. Sango and I were happy together for many years. We raised Rin and Shippo at Sesshomarus compound. We had children together, a lot at first until we had to start watching them grow old and die."
Miroku swallowed hard. "We started fighting more, not in the fun way we did when we were young but more in a…resentful kind of way."
"I fought with Kannon once." Mikaboshi said.
"Over what?" Miroku asked.
"Announcing our unity. She was afraid and worried over what may happen. I believed I was untouchable…which was what ultimately brought about my capture and imprisonment." He said.
"I don't understand how any of the others could allow such a thing to happen." Miroku stated.
"By the time any of the others came to my assistance it was far to late for any of them to help me. I was bound and dragged to the underworld, struck down by the dog demon." Scoffing he looked into his beer bottle. "Ironic, that my goddess now carries his blood and my child will continue that line."
"Maybe it is more of a full circle type of thing." Miroku offered.
"Tell me monk, what did you and your woman argue about?"
"Sango and I began to question if we were right for one another after being together for over a century. We decided to go our own ways for a time and find ourselves separately."
"Personally I struggled with having such a long life after dealing with my own mortality for the better part of it." Miroku explained. "It led me into a dark void, darker than any my own wind tunnel would have sucked me in to."
"And now?" Mikaboshi asked.
"Sango and I are meant to be together. She has come to my aid more times then I can count. Thanks to my selfishness I nearly dragged her down with me."
"I broke her heart continuously and nearly her spirit." Sighing Miroku squared his gaze at Mikaboshi. "Loving someone is easy, doing right by them sometimes is hard."
"So I have found." Mikaboshi agreed. Finishing off his beer he hit the bottom of it loudly on the table. "Let's get out of here."
"Sounds like a plan. Sitting here won't do any of us any favors I think." Miroku agreed. Standing they made their way outside. "It just would be nice if we had some kind of a lead. It isn't easy finding demons who have assimilated to modern times."
Feeling eyes on him Miroku turned to meet Mikaboshis. "Unless there is something you haven't been telling me."
"Do you honestly believe we have been wandering aimless?" He queried with a small smirk.
"Care to enlighten me." Miroku replied flatly.
"Not yet. It may muddle my compass with your thoughts." He retorted.
"Alright then, lead the way comrade." Miroku said as they walked across the parking lot under a starry sky.
