Smidge looked at the item in her hand, a green piece of plastic with a blooming flower at the end. While Smidge was clearly the brawns of the group, she was far from stupid, knowing a pregnancy test when she saw one. On top of that Poppy and Branch were deciding to get married, it was easy for her to part two and two together.
Seeing no reason to disrupt the party Smidge would sit on the topic of the test and ask Poppy and Branch about it after everyone left. she slid the test into her pocket, washing her hands before leaving the bathroom.
The Party went off as expected, everyone enjoying the time. Val and Guy were working the music. as they played the last record, the pies were all eaten, and all the games were played.
"Well, thank you all for coming, looking forward to seeing you at the morning announcements" Poppy stated, waving to her friends who left. as Holly looked at her, holding the empty pie tin.
"Good luck with the wedding Girl" Holly replied as Poppy put her arm around Branch, saying with ths guy, she knew it would be good. Holly left the Val, The Rocker admitting she was looking forward to the bachelorette party.
The two waved goodbye as they were seemingly alone, a strain of light blue hair wrapping around the two. they had little time to react before they were pulled into Branch's bedroom by the small yellow Troll as Poppy asked what reason Smidge had for grabbing them. she simply held up the test.
"When were you gonna say something about this?" Smidge asked, more disappointed than anything as Poppy covered her mouth, not wanting her to find out this way. Poppy assured her that it was nothing personal.
The two were going to announce Poppy's pregnancy after the wedding, as Smidge could not help but feel betrayed by being left in the dark, considering she was Poppy's personal helper, throwing the test on the floor.
"Smidge, I'm sorry I kept it secret, it's just we did not want to drop two bombs on the city. Tomorrow we're telling everyone we're engaged; can you imagine everyone's reactions when we tell them?" Poppy asked as Smidge thought, she knew the Trolls overreacted about every little concerning the Queen, be it the sniffles or her soup being too cold. Smidge knew she was guilty of this as well.
"If we told everyone I was pregnant right now, could you imagine the reaction?" Poppy added as the three of them sat down at the table, clearing the plates from the party as they all pondered on that.
While Smidge was still a bit surprised, she agreed to keep it secret for now, knowing the two of them would be bombarded once the news dropped. Poppy picked up the plates, looking at Branch, telling him that Smidge knowing might be a good thing.
"As My personal helper, it would be hard to keep this from here and she can cover for us" Poppy explained as Smidge agreed to do what she could to help them out. after she left the two were alone, as the placed the dishes in the sink, Branch turned on the faucet, washing off the plates as he handed them to Poppy, who would dry them.
"Well, this is the last night of things being the same, tomorrow we're telling everyone that we're engaged" Branch commented spraying a plate, off handing it to Poppy, who was thinking about the huge party the city would throw them.
"I hope there's cake and rides, and games" Poppy went on, easily focusing on the party as she stacked the plate, she looked at Branch, asking what he wants to do for their honeymoon as Branch rubbed his shoulder.
"A bit fast don't you think, don't you think the two of us should take things slowly, and start talking honeymoon when we're getting married?" Branch asked, washing out a cup as Poppy chuckled, reminding him there was technically three of them, patting her belly.
"Yes, I mean you sweetie" Poppy spoke to her stomach as she looked to Branch, asking if he thought it was going to be a boy or girl. Branch simply got red with embarrassment, saying they could probably go to the doctors to find out later, but they should save it for after they announce the baby.
"Nah, I want it to be a surprise" Poppy reflected, claiming that surprises were better than when you know something was going to happen. Branch sighed, agreeing to that. he would just have to come up with two lists of names and make the nursery in basic colors.
after doing the dishes, Poppy placed a kiss on Branch's cheek as he smiled, looking at each other in the eyes as they kissed again. he suggested they turn in for the night as she nodded, liking to cuddle with boyfriend- now fiancé.
The two turned in, changing into their sleepwear as Branch gestured for her to get on the bed, which she did, laying beside him, still kissing as Branch looked at her.
"You know, I can't wait to see you in a wedding dress" Branch admitted as she wrapped her arms around him in what he could describe as that warmest hug he ever had, kissing her neck. the two were no strangers to getting intimate, a reminder being how this whole thing started. Poppy laid Branch down, climbing on top of him, them still kissing as Branch reluctantly pushed her away.
"Wait a minute Poppy, should we really do this, I mean you're already pregnant, what if it could be bad for the baby" Branch asked, genuinely concerned for their child's health and possibility of frolicking as she laid down beside him.
"Man, no frolicking for 8 months, I'll go crazy" Poppy admitted, holding her covers as she looked at Branch who suggested they just do some romantic over the clothes stuff. Poppy agreed as they would spend the night smooching and rubbing their hands over each other's bodies.
Eventually the next morning came as the Two got out of bed, took a shower together and ate breakfast, knowing what would come next, the morning announcements. The two left the bunkers and met up as the sqaure of Trollstopia.
Branch stood near the mushroom with the other Trolls, knowing that as soon as Poppy announced their engagement, things would never be the same, reflecting on his daily life, collecting and organizing nuts and berries, maintaining the defense systems. and now everything was going to change.
Eventually Poppy got up on the big mushroom followed by Smidge and Branch who often acted as her assistants, giving the morning announcements, tapping her bell getting everyone's attention.
"Thank you, good morning, Trolls, Today I have your morning announcements, first is annual Gladnut harvest" Poppy informed as Branch smiled "we'll need a group of Trolls to harvest the nuts before they go out of season" Branch informed looking at his clipboard, he was in charge of the statistics and numbers.
This was followed by the two singing a song about Gladnuts and harvesting as they switched to the next topic, Frosting consumption. Branch was nervous as Poppy and Him went through the topics. when they reached the end of the clipboard, she would bring up the engagement.
"Don't worry Branch" a voice whispered as he looked down at Smidge "If anyone has a problem with you and Poppy, they can take it up with my two friends, Compassion and Understanding" She went on as they were what she named her fists. while Branch was relived Smidge supported their relationship, he did not want her to have to get violent.
"As tasty as Frosting is, we can't eat too much of it, it's important that everyone gets a fair serving before adding more to their desserts" Poppy explained as she gently nudged Branch's shoulder.
"Oh yes, and they are healthy options such as topping your cakes with berries and the aforementioned Gladnuts" he went on, his heart was pulsing as she changed topic to the kids' activities.
"Today's kid's activities will be fingerpainting, Hide and seek and today's music class will be on Funk Bass, taught by Lownote Jones, there will be a snack break at noon than a nature hike" Poppy went on. Part of the kid's schedule hit different since Poppy found out she was going be a mother, but she read through with no trouble.
That was the last topic on the board, so it was finally the moment of Truth.
Before I dismiss you all, there is one final announcement" Poppy went on as Holly gave Val and Guy a hug.
"It's coming Gang" Holly responded, holding back tears of joy, looking at Biggie who was hugging Mr. Dinkles to keep from ruining it. a few Trolls knew what was happening to some extent, but they did not breath a word to rest of the city as Poppy cleared her throat.
"Sorry about this" she took a sip of water, Branch questioned where she got the cup of water from but dismissed it as she went on.
"As some of you know, there have been certain rumors going around Trollstopia about me being romantically involved with another Troll" Poppy went on as everyone's eyes shifted to Branch, everyone knew the two had feelings about each other but no one said anything.
"I'd like to clear the air, once and for all about these rumors" Poppy took a deep breath "They ARE true, Branch and I are romantically involved with each other" Poppy explained as there was a clap around the Mushroom, Trolls were genuinely accepting creatures, and while there were a few idle hands there was an applause as Poppy smiled, thanking them.
"However, that is not the news I have for you. Last night Branch proposed to me, and I said yes" Poppy added as the applause became more varied, some trolls clapping harder, some stopping all together,
"It's just so emotional" Biggie sobbed, hugging the group of Holly, Val and Guy as Holly rubbed them 'There There Biggie".
"Branch and I are officially engaged" Poppy concluded, holding Branch's hand on the Mushroom in front of everyone. it was surprising news and various Trolls were acting in varied ways, but the city seemed to support it.
"I Love you Branch" Poppy admitted, hugging her Fiancé as he did the same "I Love you to Poppy" the two publicly kissed, which got a collective Aww from the Trolls as they all had to admit it was touching.
(A/N: so, Branch and Poppy being engaged is public knowledge, but Smidge is the only one who knows about the pregnancy, I haven't decided if she'll keep it to herself or tell the snack pack and ambassadors)
