Hello, everyone! Here is the next chapter of Heart Stopping Comeback. You can all thank winterschild11 for this update because she kept asking me to update it (like always), lol.

I hope you enjoy. :)

"Will you do me a favor?"

"It's not like I have a choice," Trey grumbled from the couch he was lying on. Over fifteen minutes had passed since they had locked Kendall in the other room, and the two of them had busied themselves with drinking some liquor Kenneth had had in the car.

"Go fetch me something to eat. I'm starving."

Trey frowned, feeling agitated. It took everything in him not to punch the grin off Kenneth's face. "I don't have any money—"

"I'm going to give it to you." Kenneth rolled his eyes as he stood and pulled a twenty-dollar bill out of his wallet, before handing it to him.

"Do I bring something for the boy?"

Kenneth shrugged. "Sure, whatever. We can't have him dying on us from starvation."

Trey nodded, and without another word, walked out of the cabin and towards the car.

Kenneth watched him go, a satisfied smile coming to his face. Knowing it would probably be a while until Trey returned, he sat back down on the couch, placing his feet on top of the coffee table in front of it.

For years, it had been his dream to make that boy's life a living hell – to squeeze every ounce of happiness out of his body. When he found out that Kendall, Katie and Mrs. Knight had moved to LA and that Kendall had become part of a band, he was far from enthusiastic. The thought of Kendall living such a life made his blood boil. While he had been left to rot away in jail, Kendall had been living the dream. And now that he was out of jail, he just couldn't let that happen. He couldn't let the person that was the main reason he had been put behind bars to begin with be happy. He deserved at least an ounce of what that boy had made. He deserved to make him the unhappiest he had ever been.

Being a father was something he had always looked forward to. When Jennifer had told him that she was pregnant with Kendall, he had been ecstatic. It felt like everything was falling into place. They would finally be able to start a family of their own and be happy.

Or so he thought.

The first few years after Kendall was born were happy. He was excited to teach Kendall sports, play hockey with him in the frozen pond near their house, go out with him and do father and son activities, just like he had always dreamed of doing. Everything was going well.

But then, the accident happened.

He shook his head and reached for the half-empty bottle of liquor that he had left discarded on the floor, next to the couch. Pressing it to his lips, he took a long swig, letting his eyes drop shut.

From the other room, he could hear Kendall's muffled screaming, causing the anger he was feeling to grow. The hold he had on the glass bottle tightened as he stood. Frowning, he placed the bottle on the table and stormed his way towards the room.

"Stop screaming!" he yelled, before yanking the door open and glaring at the boy lying helplessly on the floor. "It's not gonna get you anywhere." With that being said, he slammed the door shut and made his way back towards the living room. Gulping down the rest of his drink, he threw the empty bottle into the nearest trash can, all the while doing his best to keep his emotions in check.

By the time Trey returned, over half an hour had passed. He snatched the McDonald's paper bag Trey was stretching out towards him without so much as a "thank you" and practically wolfed down the biscuit and hash brown inside it.

From where he sat, across from him, Trey watched him closely, only stopping when Kenneth glared back at him. "What are you looking at?" he asked, unable to mask the annoyance in his voice.

Trey didn't answer. He simply went back to eating, while Kenneth stood and grabbed the paper bag on the coffee table, which up until then had remained untouched.

When he opened the room's door again and turned on the light, he found Kendall in the same position he had been in before, with his eyes staring forward. He watched as he flinched when he stepped towards him, placing the paper bag in front of his face.

"I'm going to untie your hands," he said and pushed the boy into a sitting position, ignoring the look of fear that flashed across his face. "You better not try anything or you will regret it. Understood?"

Kendall didn't make a sound. Instead, he sat with his gaze locked on the ground, unmoving.

"I said, understood?" he asked again, pulling Kendall's head up by his hair. A small whimper came from the boy as he nodded shakily, causing a satisfied smile to appear on Kenneth's face.

"Good."

Keeping an eye on Kendall's face, he untied his hands, and then proceeded to remove the bandana from around his mouth. "Here," he said and placed the muffin that was inside the paper bag closer towards him.

For a moment, Kendall just stared at it, his teeth digging into his bottom lip.

"Eat it," his father demanded.

Kendall didn't say anything, but his hands shook as he reached for the muffin and brought it to his lips.

It was seven in the morning when Logan awoke in a cold sweat, his heart threatening to beat right out of his chest. Beside him, on the bed, Carlos raised his head and turned to look at him.

"You okay?" he asked, to which Logan could only nod in response. "Are you sure? You look pretty shaken up."

"Just a bad dream, I think," Logan said as he stared up at the ceiling, his heartbeat slowly starting to go back to normal. "Go back to sleep."

"I wasn't asleep," Carlos mumbled, rolling over to face Logan. "I couldn't sleep."

"How long have you been awake?" Logan asked, turning his head to face him.

Carlos shrugged and pulled the comforter up to his chin. "I don't know. Maybe a couple of hours."

Logan hummed in response, and then sat up in bed, swinging his legs over the edge of it.

"Where are you going?" Carlos asked as he sat up as well.

"Well, it's already seven," he said, his eyes locked on the alarm clock beside his bed, "I figured I should probably start breakfast."

"Do you want some help?"

"Can you help me out with the dishes?" Logan asked, knowing that if Carlos actually helped him make breakfast, it would most likely end in disaster.

"Sure."

"Thanks, Litos." Logan smiled gratefully at him, before standing up.

After brushing his teeth and combing his hair, he walked back into his and Kendall's shared bedroom, where James was still fast asleep on the floor. The night before, they had tried to get him to sleep on Kendall's bed, since none of them felt comfortable sleeping away from the other two, but he had refused.

Deciding not to awaken him just yet, he made his way out of the room and towards the kitchen, where Carlos was already busy washing the dishes.

"You know, I never realized just how many dishes we used up in just a few days, until now," Carlos said as he turned to look at him for a brief second.

"I can wash some of them, if you want," Logan offered, but Carlos shook his head.

"No, you make breakfast. I'll take care of it."

Looking hesitant, Logan nodded. "Okay."

Making breakfast was a struggle. The exhaustion from the past couple of days was starting to catch up with him, and not being able to sleep the previous night had only made things worse. He could barely keep his eyes open, let alone focus on the task at hand.

"Hey, go lay down."

He jumped at the voice and the feeling of someone placing a hand around his wrist.

"I'm making breakfast," he said to James, whose hair was still tousled from sleep – a sight that he rarely ever got to see.

"No, you're not. You look exhausted," James said as he gently pulled him away from the stove. "I'll finish this. Go lay down."

"But—"

"Logan, seriously, I got this."

Letting out a sigh, Logan stepped away so James could take his place. "Fine," he said and started walking towards the living room. But before leaving the kitchen, he turned to James and gave him a small smile. "Thank you."

"No problem."

Letting his smile fall, he made his way to the orange couch and plopped down beside Carlos, who was staring at the TV in front of him – which had yet to be turned on – with a blank look on his face.

"Hey," Logan said as he placed a hand on top of Carlos' shoulder.

"Hey," Carlos said, forcing his lips into a smile that quickly vanished.

Logan thought about asking him if he was okay, but he already knew the answer, so instead of asking him that, he scooted closer to him and wrapped an arm around his shoulders. He wasn't very fond of physical contact, but he knew that Carlos was. He knew that the only thing that would put him at ease, aside from having Kendall back, was having his loved ones near him.

Within a couple of minutes, he felt the weight of Carlos' head landing on top of his shoulder. Turning his head slightly to the left, he realized that Carlos' eyes were now closed and he appeared to be asleep. Instead of waking him up, he let his own eyes slip shut, until he felt someone poking his arm lightly.

"Here," James said, as he now stood in front of him. He was holding out a plate filled with scrambled eggs, pancakes, and some strawberries on the side. He gave him a tiny smile as he handed it to him, and then disappeared back into the kitchen to grab Carlos' plate.

While they ate, Logan watched the other two from his peripheral vision. James was actually eating, but Carlos was mostly just poking at his food, only managing to put some of it in his mouth every couple of minutes.

"Are you not hungry?" James asked, appearing to notice the same thing Logan had.

Carlos raised his head at James' question, his lips forming into a tight line. "No, uh, not really."

James frowned at this. "At least eat the fruit, okay?"

Carlos nodded and slowly started eating the strawberries that were on his plate. When he was done, he placed his leftovers in the fridge, and then went to knock on his bedroom door, which is where Gustavo had spent the night.

It took a few seconds, but eventually, Gustavo opened the door, his lips formed into a frown.

"Why are you waking me up at"—he looked at his watch and then back up at Carlos—"eight in the morning?"

"Logan and James made breakfast," Carlos said as he moved out of the way so Gustavo could step past him.

After receiving a quiet "thanks" from the older man, he went and knocked on Mrs. Knight and Katie's bedroom door. A slight smile came to his face when Kelly opened the door, wearing a pink pajama set with cats all over it.

"Morning, Kelly."

"Morning, sweetheart," Kelly said as she rubbed at her tired eyes. "Is it time for visiting hours already? I know you and the boys said you wanted to go back to the hospital in the morning."

"Almost," Carlos said. "I think they said visiting hours start at nine?" He turned to Logan for confirmation and received a nod in response. "James and Logan made breakfast, if you want some."

"That sounds lovely. Thank you." She gave his shoulder a light squeeze as she walked around him, and then headed for the bathroom to brush her teeth.

When they all stepped out of the Palm Woods, the sky was a dark grey.

"It looks like it's gonna rain," Logan commented.

Beside him, James scoffed. "How fitting."

"Can we go on the BTR Mobile this time?" Carlos asked, turning around to face Gustavo and Kelly, who were quietly walking behind them.

"I'd rather the three of you stick with me for the time being. Freight Train's out of town right now and won't be able to get here until later this afternoon. Until then, I don't want you boys to leave my sight," Gustavo said.

"But we're perfectly capable of driving."

"Are you really?" Gustavo asked, raising an eyebrow at Carlos.

"Well…" Carlos faltered. "Logan is."

"The thing is, it's not about how well you can drive," Gustavo said with a sigh. "I trust you boys. What I don't trust is other people. The paparazzi, anybody else who might want to harm you. It's not safe for the three of you to be alone right now."

"We know," the three of them said in unison, looking mildly disappointed.

With a remorseful look on his face, Gustavo took out his car keys and unlocked it. "Come on, get inside," he said, ushering the boys inside the vehicle.

The three of them piled into the back seat, while Gustavo took the driver's seat and Kelly took the passenger's.

None of them said anything the whole way to the hospital, each of them lost in their own thoughts. While Logan stared out the window at the droplets of rain that soon started to fall, Carlos remained as still as a statue where he sat. James, on the other hand, kept tapping his knuckles against the car door, and his leg kept bouncing up and down, up until the moment the car had been parked.

The hospital was fairly quiet, with not a lot of people inside it when they walked in. After talking to one of the nurses at the front desk, they found out that Mrs. Knight had been moved into the same room as Katie, so they started heading in the direction of her hospital room.

With five people inside the elevator, the small space felt quite cramped. Moving towards the very back, James tried to keep his hands from shaking. He was starting to feel claustrophobic and there were tears threatening to spill from his eyes.

It wasn't until the elevator stopped and everyone stepped out that he felt like he could finally breathe – or, at least, better than before.

"Come on," Carlos said, noticing his absence. He wrapped a hand around James' wrist and pulled him out of the elevator and close to his side. "Are you okay?"

Wordlessly, James nodded.

Carlos frowned at his lack of words but decided to let it slide for the time being.

"The three of you can head inside," Kelly said once they had arrived at Katie and Mrs. Knight's hospital room. "We'll wait for you in the waiting room that's around the corner."

"Are you sure?" Logan asked.

Kelly nodded and gave them a faint smile. "We're sure."

"Okay."

Carlos was the first one to step inside, followed closely by Logan. James stepped forward but stopped in the middle of the doorway, his breath catching in his throat.

"Honey, are you okay?" Kelly asked as she moved to stand beside him, placing a gentle hand on his shoulder.

James swallowed hard and gave her a small nod, even though it felt like all the air had escaped his lungs and he felt like he couldn't take in any more of it.

"It's gonna be okay," she whispered.

Feeling tears begin to fill his eyes, he took a small step back, letting the door close in front of him. He slowly turned to face Kelly, and before he knew what he was doing, he was hugging her tightly, tears now spilling down his cheeks.

Gustavo stood a couple of feet away, unsure of what to do. Cautiously, he moved to stand behind James and patted him lightly on the back.

"I'm not, uh, very good at finding the right words to say," he said quietly. "But I do know this. Kendall's strong, and I know this whole situation is scary, but we will find him. One way or another, we will."

Sniffling, James pulled away from Kelly and turned to Gustavo, his gaze now locked on his sneakers. "It's not just that… Seeing Mama Knight last night, I think it broke me. She looked so scared, so unlike herself." He stopped to take in a big gulp of air, and then looked up to properly face Gustavo. "I hate it. I hate all of this."

"We know, honey," Kelly said as she rubbed his arm with her hand. "It's not gonna be easy, but you are not alone in this, okay? You have us, and we're not going to leave you to deal with this on your own."

"She's right," Gustavo said. "Regardless of how annoying the three of you get, I'm not leaving you."

"Thanks, Gustavo." James rubbed at his reddened eyes and smiled over at Gustavo, and then at Kelly. "You too, Kelly. Really, I don't know what we'd do if we didn't have you right now."

The door suddenly clicked open behind them and Antonio stuck his head out. "Good morning," he said, giving the three of them a small smile. "James, is everything okay, mijo?"

"Yeah," he replied. "I just needed a moment."

"They're both asleep," Antonio said, as he opened the door wider. "But feel free to sit down with them and the boys. I'm gonna go get some coffee, but I'll be right back."

"Okay."

"Do any of you want anything?" Antonio asked the three of them.

"A cup of coffee does sound nice," Gustavo said.

"I'm good," Kelly said.

"And you, James?"

"I'm okay, thank you."

"Alright. I won't be long." He stepped out of the room and patted James lightly on the back, urging him to walk inside the hospital room.

Sighing softly, James forced his legs to guide him inside the room, where just like Antonio had said, Katie and Mrs. Knight were still fast asleep. Carlos was sitting by the foot of Katie's hospital bed, while Logan had taken a seat beside Mrs. Knight's in a chair.

Pulling up a chair to Katie's right, James took a seat and placed his head on top of the palm of his hand, his eyes unable to leave Mrs. Knight's still form.

I apologize if this chapter was not very eventful or action-packed. I really just wanted to get something out, but hopefully it won't be long before you get the next one. I'll do my best to get it up soon.

Thank you for reading, and thank you for all the reviews! They make me very happy. :)
