Second Date: Part Two

"You all right there, love?" Killian asked as soon as they stepped out of the loft and started walking down the stairs, hand in hand.

"Yeah," Emma said with a breath. "I'm good."

"Brilliant."

"So… where are you taking me?"

"You'll see."

Emma bumped shoulders with Killian as they reached the bottom of the stairs. "Come on. Just tell me."

Killian shook his head and opened the door for Emma, walking out after her. "No can do, love." He wrapped his arm around her shoulders as she wrapped hers around his waist.

Emma smiled. "Fine." She rested her head on his shoulder

The sun was setting as they walked to their destination. Emma wasn't paying much attention to where they were going. Her mind was distracted with gratitude for Henry.

It wasn't until Emma almost tripped that she came back to her senses.

"Whoa!" she said as Killian grabbed her before she fell. She looked around and realized that they were on the beach. Then she realized that wearing heels was a bad idea.

"You okay?"

Emma nodded. "Yeah, I'm fine." She looked at him. "Why are we on the beach?"

Killian's face split with a mischievous grin. "You'll see."

Emma laughed. "Killian, I can't walk on the beach in these shoes."

Killian glanced at Emma's feet. His face fell, but he smiled to cover up his disappointment. "Oh… that's quite all right…."

"I can take them off," Emma suggested. "The sand is soft anyway."

Killian's smile became real. "Let's get you to a bench so you can sit down."

Killian held onto Emma tight as they walked to a bench. Once she was sitting down, Killian sat next to her.

Emma bent down and undid her right shoe. She set it on her other side of the bench before doing the same to her left shoe.

"Okay." Emma stood up, Killian following suit. Emma took her shoes in her right hand and grabbed Killian's right hand in her left. "Let's go."

"Aye." Killian led her farther down the beach.

"The sand is soft," Emma commented.

Killian chuckled. "I'm glad."

The sun was almost completely set. Only half of it was visible when they looked out at the water.

Finally, they came into view of a blanket spread on the sand with a basket in the center. As they walked closer, Emma could see lanterns on each corner of the blanket with one in the middle next to the basket. The lanterns, however, weren't modern day ones, they looked like they were from the Enchanted Forest. Each one had a single candle in it, not yet lit.

Emma stopped in her tracks.

Killian looked at her, worried that he had done something wrong. "What is it? If you don't like it—"

"No, no," Emma reassured quickly, turning to him. "That's not it. I love it. It's just… I wasn't expecting something this… planned out."

Killian raised his eyebrow. "What do you mean, love?"

Emma averted her gaze. "I'm just… not used to someone putting this much effort into something for me."

Killian lifted her chin up and took a step forward. "Well, that's going to change."

Emma smiled softly before turning back to look at the blanket. "How long did this take you?"

"I didn't keep track of the time." Killian took her hand and the two walked to the blanket, Emma tossing her shoes to the side. They sat on either side of the basket.

Killian opened the basket and pulled out a grilled cheese and bag of onion rings from Granny's.

Emma laughed as he handed them to her. "Thanks." She realized that the food was still hot, just the way she liked it. "They're still warm."

Killian nodded as he pulled out another set grilled cheese and onion rings. "Courtesy of Regina." He put two plates on top of the basket and set his food on one, Emma putting hers on the other.

Emma snorted. "You liked grilled cheese and onion rings?"

Killian shrugged. "I'm not sure. I haven't tasted them yet."

"Well," Emma said, taking a bite of an onion ring, "you're going to love them."

Killian eyed the greasy food with skepticism. "I hope so, I didn't bring anything extra."

Emma watched as Killian took a bite of the grilled cheese. His eyes immediately squeezed shut. He chewed slowly, eventually swallowing.

Emma laughed. "It's not that bad, is it?"

Killian opened his eyes. "It's… delicious."

Emma rolled her eyes. "I don't believe you. Now, eat the onion rings."

Killian shook his head. "No. I don't know if I trust your judgement on food anymore."

"I don't trust your judgement," Emma said, laughing. "Anyone who doesn't like Granny's grilled cheese is a crazy person."

"I prefer dashing rapscallion." Killian smirked.

A snort left Emma's mouth before she could stop it.

Killian raised an eyebrow. "Scoundrel?"

Emma shook her head. "Killian, you're ridiculous." She took one of his onion rings. "More for me."

"Go ahead." He smiled and leaned back on his hand, staring at the horizon.

By the time Emma finished both grilled cheeses and both bags of onion rings, the sun was almost completely set, light barely peeking out from behind the sea.

Killian, seeing she was finished, moved the basket aside and shifted to sit next to her. He wrapped his arm around her as she rested her head on his shoulder.

"It's beautiful," Emma whispered.

Killian nodded. "Aye, you are."

Emma rolled her eyes. "Thanks."

As the sun disappeared, clouds came in, covering the stars and moon.

Emma waved her hand and the lanterns lit up. She snuggled closer to Killian, getting a bit chilly. She opened her mouth to say something, but they were suddenly being drenched in water.

Emma gasped, standing up quickly. Killian did the same.

"I thought it wasn't supposed to rain today!" Emma called over the sound of the rain. She put her hands over her head, trying to keep herself dry.

Killian pulled his jacket off and held it over his and Emma's heads. "Come on. We can clean this up later." The two started running toward shelter, Emma barefoot.

They ran across the beach, their shoes—or in Emma's case, feet—getting covered in wet sand. As they splashed through puddles on the pavement, Emma noticed Killian was mostly covering her with his jacket, him taking most of the rain.

"Killian," Emma shouted as they ran, "you're going to get sick!"

"I'll be fine. I've been in harsher weather than this."

"Killian—"

There was a loud boom of thunder, causing Emma to jump. A laugh burst out of her mouth. She yanked on Killian's hand, leading them in the directions of Granny's. Tired of her aching feet, Emma waved her hand and a pair of flats appeared on her feet.

They ran up the steps to the diner, rushing inside to see it almost completely empty.

"Hey, you're getting my floor wet!" Granny shouted from the counter.

Emma forced back a laugh. "Sorry, Granny! It's pouring out there."

Granny nodded. "I know. It came out of nowhere. Now, are you going to eat something or just stand there and ruin my floors?"

Killian shook his head. "No, Granny. We just—"

"We'll order in a minute," Emma cut in, pulling Killian to a booth at the back of the room.

Granny walked back into the kitchen.

"Love, we just ate," Killian argued as Emma pushed him into the booth, sliding in next to him.

"I did, but you didn't," Emma explained. "Order something and eat and then we can go back to the loft."

Killian chuckled. "Your father isn't going to be happy about you getting home late."

Emma rolled her eyes, leaning against Killian. "Let him be mad."

Killian's arm went around Emma's shoulders, pulling her closer to him. "Are you going to get anything to eat?"

"Nope. I'll just steal your fries."

"Who said I was getting fries?"

Emma looked up at him. "You always get a burger and fries."

Killian smiled down at her. "What if I want to try something different?"

"You won't." She settled back down again.

After Granny came and took their order, Emma noticed Killian's sopping hair. His shirt, along with the rest of his clothes, were in a similar state.

"Killian, I'm going to yell at you," Emma warned, running her hand through his hair. "You're soaked!"

Killian let out a chuckle. "That is what happens when you get caught in a storm."

"You didn't have to get soaked. If you at least tried to stand under your jacket, you would be fine."

He shook his head. "I had to make sure you were safe from the weather."

"You're going to get a cold now," she stated. "That wasn't very wise of you."

Killian grinned. "I think it was. You won't get that pesky virus, which is far more important. Also, I don't get sick. I've weathered many storms far worse than the one raging outside."

"I don't care. You can still get a cold." Emma suddenly had an idea. She pushed herself out of the booth, getting to her feet. "Go change into something dry."

Killian stared at her. "You're joking, right?"

"No! Go change before you get a cold." Emma crossed her arms, fixing him with a glare.

Killian only laughed and stood. "You sound like your mother, Swan."

Emma beamed and kissed him quickly. "She's right about some things. Now, go."

Killian held his hand and hook up. "All right. I'm going, but don't eat all my fries."

"I can't promise anything."

His smile grew wider as he walked away, heading to his room.

As Emma sat at the booth, she couldn't keep the smile off her face. A giddy feeling had filled her. Killian had the ability to wipe every worry from her mind. Whenever she was with him, she felt safe. She never wanted to leave his side.

"Thinking happy thoughts?"

Emma's head snapped up. Granny smirked, setting Killian's hamburger down. "Thanks, Granny."

"Where'd your pirate go?" she asked, glancing at the hallway.

"He went to change. His clothes were sopping wet," explained Emma.

Granny narrowed her eyes. "He's not skipping out on my cooking, is he?"

Emma shook her head vigorously. "Of course not. He would never."

Granny nodded slowly. "Mmkay. Enjoy the food." She backed away and headed back to the kitchen.

"Oh good, my dinner's here," Killian commented, appearing next to Emma.

Emma jumped. "Oh, gosh. Don't do that." She stood again, letting Killian in before sitting back down.

His shoulders shook with laughter. "Apologies, love." He pulled his plate in front of him. Emma immediately took a fry and stuffed it in her mouth. "Hey!"

Emma smiled innocently. "I warned you."

Once Killian had finished his meal, they ordered ice cream before deciding it was time to return to the loft.

The rain was pouring harder when they stepped outside.

Emma turned to Killian. "I can get home by myself. You can go back inside."

Killian shook his head and laced his fingers through Emma's. "Your father would never forgive me if I did such a thing."

Emma rolled her eyes. "Fine, but if you get sick, don't complain."

"Swan, I wouldn't dream of it." With that, the two sprinted out into the rain .

They soon reached the safety of Emma's parents' apartment complex. Killian threw his sopping wet jacket over his shoulder. He took Emma's hand and they walked upstairs.

When they reached the door to Emma's apartment, Emma turned around and smiled. "That was fun."

"Sorry about the rain—"

Emma shook her head. "I liked that part, too."

Killian grinned, a look of triumph on his face. He was about to say something, but the door opened.

"They're back!" Henry yelled back at his grandparents.

Emma and Killian looked at him, surprised.

He reddened. "Did I interrupt something?"

"I hope not!" they heard David call from the kitchen.

Emma shook her head, closing her eyes for a moment. "No, you're fine. We were just about to come in to warm up and have some cocoa."

Henry stepped aside so Emma and Killian could walk in. "Great timing. Grandma just made some." He shut the door behind them and walked back into the kitchen, taking a mug off the counter.

Killian hung his wet jacket on a coat hanger before walking with Emma into the kitchen. They both took a mug, Killian's with no cinnamon, and took sips, both warming immensely.

David leaned against the back counter, arms crossed as he stared between his daughter and Killian.

"So, how was it?" Snow asked excitedly.

"Full of rain," Emma muttered, taking a large gulp of cocoa.

"You were outside?" Snow questioned, eyebrows shooting up. "The rain ruined it?"

Emma shook her head, grabbing Killian's hook from under the counter. "It was just a nice surprise."

Snow's expression softened. "That's wonderful."

They finished their hot drinks in silence. When Killian was finished, he gently set his mug on the counter and said, "Well, I think I'll head out."

Emma felt herself fill with disappointment. "Okay." Setting her own mug down, she walked over to the door with Killian.

Killian took his jacket and put it over his shoulder, smiling at Emma. "See you tomorrow, love."

Emma shifted on her feet. "See you."

They shared a quick kiss before Emma opened the door and Killian stepped out. A soft smile appeared on her face. "Goodnight, Killian."

He smiled back at her. "Goodnight."

He disappeared behind the door as Emma shut it. She couldn't keep the grin off her face. Taking a breath, she turned around. "I'm going to head to bed. 'Night."

"Goodnight," Snow quipped.

"'Night," David mumbled.

Emma walked upstairs, glad Henry didn't follow her right away. She grabbed a pair of warm pajamas and quickly changed into them before hanging her dress up to dry. She crawled into bed and pulled the covers up to her lap, leaning against the headboard.

"Hey, Mom," Henry said, emerging from the stairs. "Did you have fun?"

Emma nodded. "Yeah. What about you?"

Henry snorted and sat on Emma's bed. "If you call algebra fun, then yeah."

Emma smiled. "Did Mary Margaret help you?'

"Yeah. She's surprisingly good for someone from the Enchanted Forest."

"Well, she is a teacher."

Henry shrugged. "Still."

Emma reached her arms out toward him. "Come here."

Henry's smile widened. He sat next to his mother, Emma wrapping her arm around his shoulder and resting her head on his head.

"Thank you for convincing me to go with Killian," Emma murmured.

"No problem, Mom. Anytime."

It was times like these that Emma had a hard time believing she was lucky enough to have a kid as caring and compassionate as Henry. "I love you, kid."

"I love you, too."

And without saying another word, the two fell asleep, Emma feeling safe with her son in her arms.

I hope you enjoyed that! If you have any requests, please let me know!
