Sorry this is a little late! I was going to post on Tuesday, but I wanted this chapter to be longer, so I wrote an extra 300 to 400 words. I didn't have time to edit it before now.

This is based in 5x21, "Last Rites." It's a missing scene following Killian's return.

Thanks for all the follows, favorites, and reviews! We've reached over a hundred reviews, so thank you!

Back

Emma stared at Robin's grave, her heart pounding. Killian's back. Killian's back. Despite knowing the pirate in her arms was there, she couldn't help but feel guilty. Regina lost her love and there was no coming back for him.

Looking away from the grave, Emma turned in Killian's arms and buried her face in his shoulder, moving her arms around his shoulders. He held her tight and set his head on hers. His Swan. His poor Swan.

They stood like that for a moment, holding each other. All Emma could think about was Killian. Her Killian was back.

Killian was still piecing everything together. Zeus had sent him back. Zeus had sent him back to "where he belonged." He hadn't known what that meant until he saw Emma standing there. As soon as his eyes landed her, nothing else mattered. His only thought was of holding her again. Just like that, he couldn't imagine being away from her. He vowed he would never leave her, never be taken away from her. He wasn't going to let history repeat itself.

"We should go," she whispered after a few minutes. "Henry will want to see you."

Killian smiled at the mention of the boy. "I want to see him, too."

Emma sucked in a breath, but made no move to leave. She didn't want to pull away. She only wanted to stand there, her True Love wrapped in her arms. Nothing could hurt them at that moment. Nothing could hurt him, she wouldn't allow it. Not again.

She could feel the tears sting her eyes. She squeezed them closed. She'd done enough crying today.

Killian was in a similar state, but he didn't try to keep the tears at bay. He let them slip down his cheeks and drip into her hair. His heart was on the verge of exploding with insurmountable joy.

Finally, Emma leaned back far enough to see Killian's face. She brought her hands to either side of his face and swiped his tears away with her thumbs.

"We should go," she repeated.

He nodded and set his forehead on hers. "I know."

Emma stepped back. The motion ached. She didn't want to step away. She didn't want to move. Killian held on tight to her hand, though. He grabbed it quickly and refused to let go. Emma smiled gently at him. They began the walk back to Granny's.

Killian stayed close to Emma's side. The warmth of her hand anchored him.

"So, you want to tell me how you got back?" she asked after they stepped onto a path. "Something about Zeus?"

Killian grinned. "Aye. Arthur and I found the pages needed to destroy Hades and sent them back."

Emma's hand tightened around Killian's. "I knew that was you. I knew you saved us."

His heart swelled. "I was supposed to move on. I walked into a room of white light. I didn't know what I was expecting, but it wasn't the ruler of Olympus."

"What did he say?"

"He said I'd done him a great service by helping destroy Hades. He told me he was going to send me to where I belonged." Killian glanced at Emma. "And I appeared here."

Emma looked up at Killian. A soft smile appeared on her lips. "I have Zeus to thank, then."

"So do I."

They continued to walk at a slow pace. Neither were in a rush to reach Granny's.

"What happened up here while I was away?"

Emma exhaled. "Hades and Zelena were hiding in Regina's office. They put a protection spell over it. When I got the pages, I went straight there."

"You went by yourself?" he asked.

Emma nodded. "I needed to end it. I couldn't… I couldn't live knowing you were down there, knowing you were in pain." She shook her head. "It hurt too much. I wanted for you to move on so badly. I wanted you to be happy. I knew the only way that could happen was if I defeated Hades. I had to do it."

Killian's heart clenched. He knew sending Emma home without him was going to be hard on both of them. Pushing her into that elevator had been like ripping his own heart out. Knowing what kind of danger Emma put herself in because of him was almost worse. If Emma had died trying to help him move on, he would never have forgiven himself.

He chased that thought away with one of Emma. She was standing here, next to him, alive and beautiful. She was gripping his hand as though her life depended on it.

"I'm glad I could be of service."

"You did more than be of service, Killian. You saved us all."

Killian looked at his feet. "But Robin…."

Emma pulled Killian to a halt, turning to face him. "He died protecting Regina. His death is not your fault." She brushed her hand across his cheek. "He saved Regina and his daughter. He died knowing that the people he loved were going to be okay. They are going to be okay because of you, Killian."

Killian searched her eyes, trying to figure out if she was just saying those things to comfort him or if she really meant them. He knew the latter was correct. Unable to be so far apart anymore, Killian wrapped his love in a hug. He didn't—couldn't—let go.

Emma combed her fingers through the hair on the nape of Killian's neck. She held on tight. Standing like this, she felt complete. Whole. Even though they didn't share a heart, it felt like they did.

Killian rubbed circles on Emma's back, relaxing her. He knew his death and their separation had taken a toll on her. He could see the bags under her eyes as well as the redness of them. He would need to speak with David to find out how much Emma had actually slept. He needed to know if she had been grieving healthily or if she had put her armor back on. He knew that she wouldn't put it on consciously. She had promised him she wouldn't. But grief was a monster that attacked from the inside. It made people do things they would never have done otherwise. He needed to know everything. He needed to know that his Swan was okay.

Emma knew they should go to Granny's, but she couldn't stomach the idea of pulling away from him now, not when he was holding onto her like he was about to lose her. She couldn't.

"Love, should we be going?" he asked after another few silent minutes.

Emma sighed. "Probably." She leaned back and placed her lips on his. "I am so happy you're back, Killian. I… I could hardly breathe with you gone."

Killian stared at her lovingly.

"Never, never do that again," she whispered. "Promise me we're never going to lose each other. Please."

A sad smile appeared on his face. "I promise I will do everything in my power to make that so."

It wasn't what Emma wanted, but she knew it was the best he could do. This was Storybrooke afterall.

Emma stepped back and laced her fingers through Killian's, keeping close to his side. Together, they resumed their venture to Granny's.

When the diner came into view, Emma spoke up, "When we get to Granny's, I think it's best if you wait outside." She hated the idea of letting him go now, but she couldn't be selfish. Not when Regina was in pain, a pain Emma knew too well.

"Aye. Regina—Robin's death can't be easy for her."

"And seeing you back when that's not possible for him."

Killian pulled them to a stop before the entrance to Granny's. "Fate is cruel."

"It could push her over the edge." Her fingers twisted anxiously in her jacket pocket. How was she going to tell her? "She cursed an entire kingdom when she lost her first love." She knew Regina had changed, but she also knew the lure of the darkness. She knew how losing someone you loved could make it easier to give in. She'd done that very thing when she was about to lose Killian in Camelot.

"Yeah, but she's changed much since then." He gave her a reassuring smile. The thought of letting Emma go now, even if it was for a few minutes, was almost unbearable.

Emma nodded. "I know, but I still need to break the news about you carefully. It's the right thing to do." She didn't move immediately. It was her idea to separate for a brief moment, but she didn't seem to be able to bring herself to do it. Any number of things could happen while she was inside. Killian couldn't get hurt again.

"Hey, it's all right," he said, as if reading her thoughts. "I'll be right here when you finish. It is the right thing to do."

She blew out a breath, meeting his eyes. "You're right." She released his hand, almost shivering from the lack of warmth. "I'll be right back." She kissed him quickly, but didn't step back immediately.

"Go," he whispered. "It'll be okay."

"I know." She smiled softly at him and headed to the door. When she reached it, she sent a glance back at Killian. He nodded once, returning her smile. She took a deep breath and stepped inside.

I hope you enjoyed that chapter!
