After the fight between Jack and Flynn, Jack and the others agreed he needed to get rid of the potions book.
Elsa took Jack into the Room of Requirement. "We have to hide the book. Where no one will be able to find it, including you."
They heard a rustling noise and questioned what it was.
Jack then went to the Vanishing Cabinet, opened it, and a small bird flew out, startling them both.
Elsa giggled. "See? Anything can be in here." She then slowly removed the book from Jack's hand and told him to close his eyes, so he could not see where she was hiding the book.
Jack watched Elsa back away and closed his eyes after Elsa said it one more time.
Once Elsa hid the book, she returned to Jack, and kissed him.
Elsa said, "Maybe we can hide here one day."
Jack chuckled and when he opened his eyes, Elsa was gone.
Hiccup came up to Jack in a hallway, asking if he and Elsa hid the book.
"Yeah," Jack replied.
Stein came around the corner, saw them, and turned back around.
"Damn," Hiccup said, "still no luck with Stein?"
Before Jack answered, he got an idea. "Luck. That's what I need!"
Jack, Hiccup, and Fishlegs sat in the Hufflepuff Common Room, as Jack was about to drink his Liquid Luck.
"So, wait." Fishlegs said with his hand up. "Let me get this straight, you," he pointed at Jack, "poured water into my drink and told me it was Liquid Luck?"
Jack shrugged. "It worked, didn't it?"
Fishlegs put his hand down and nodded.
Jack started drinking the Liquid Luck.
"Liquid Luck," Fishlegs said. "Do you think it tastes like liquid courage?" He asked Hiccup.
"What's that?" Hiccup asked.
"Alcohol."
Hiccup shrugged. "Maybe."
Once Jack finished the drink, he looked at his friends and started grinning.
"How do you feel?" Hiccup asked.
"Great." Jack answered. He stood and exclaimed, "Really great!"
"Alright," Fishlegs said with a clap of his hands. "You know Stein's routine and you know where to be before he goes back to his office."
"Totally," Jack confirmed with a nod. "I'm going to Gobber's!" He then began to leave.
"What?" Fishlegs and Hiccup asked.
"No, you gotta see Stein." Hiccup reminded Jack. "Remember the plan?"
"I remember, but…I've got a really good feeling about Gobber's." Jack answered. "It feels like it's the place to be tonight. You know what I mean?" He asked Hiccup and Fishlegs.
"No," they replied.
"Trust me, I know what I'm doing." As Jack was leaving, he gleefully greeted another student as they were coming inside.
Stein lifted a window to the Herbology classroom and fit his large body underneath, so he could cut Tentacula leaves.
Jack lifted a window next to Stein. "Hey, Professor."
Stein jumped, breaking the window against his back. "Jack!" He sighed heavily. "You startled me."
"Sorry. I probably should've announced myself with a cough or something."
"Yeah." Stein darted his eyes between Jack and the plant in front of him. "Can I help you?"
"Why are you sneaking around?"
"What makes you think I'm sneaking around?"
"General behavior and the fact you jumped when you saw me, you know you broke that window, right?"
Stein sighed again and looked back at the glass on the floor behind him. "Yes, I know. Jackson-"
"Hey, my dad calls me that."
Stein dragged his hand down his face. "Well, it is your name after all. What are you even up to?"
Jack put his hands up in a shrug.
Stein groaned and got out from underneath the window, as did Jack.
Jack walked off.
"Where are you going?"
"Gobber's!"
Stein squinted his eyes. "Is he drunk?" He followed Jack. He followed Jack for a bit and asked why Jack was going to Gobber's.
"It just feels like the right thing to do!"
Stein shrugged to himself. "Alright, maybe he's high."
Then, Jack came up to Gobber and Phil as Gobber was crying in front of a dead Grump.
Stein walked up next to Gobber. "Whoa. Is that an actual Acromantula?"
"Seems pretty dead," Jack pointed out.
"Good grief," Stein said. "Gobber, how did you kill it?"
"Kill it?" Gobber questioned. "Why, Grump was my oldest friend."
Stein tried to apologize, but Gobber told him not to worry about it.
Gobber went on to say, "Spiders are seriously misunderstood creatures. I think it's the multiple eyes that unnerve a lot of people."
"Along with the pincers and eight legs." Jack said and clicked his tongue, mimicking the sound of pincers.
"That too, I suppose." Gobber said awkwardly.
"I don't mean to be insensitive, but Acromantula venom is extremely rare." Stein said to Gobber. "Would you mind if I extracted some?"
Gobber reluctantly agreed.
"Thank you." Stein said as he patted Gobber's back. He then extracted the venom, but accidentally broke a leg off.
"Oh!" Gobber cried out, but stifled himself.
Stein jogged back to the group and asked if Gobber would like for him to say a few words.
Gobber commenced to sob and agreed to let Stein say some words for Grump.
Stein asked, "Did he have a family?"
"Oh yeah," Jack answered.
That night, after Stein was done, the three of them went into Gobber's home where Stein and Gobber proceeded to get drunk and sing at the dinner table.
Jack applauded their musical talents when they finished.
"You know, I had ol' Grump from the time he was an egg." Gobber said. "Wee little thing he was when he hatched. No bigger than a Glen Terrier. A Glen Terrier, I tell you!"
"That's sweet." Stein replied. "I once had a dog. Sparky. He was near and dear to me. One afternoon, I was playing fetch with Sparky. I threw the ball a bit too hard, he went out to the road, and was killed by a car."
Gobber shook his head. "A damn shame."
"Oh yeah," Stein said and took a sip of his drink. "But, that's life. Right? You're having a good time and then outta nowhere…bang."
"Bang," Gobber reiterates.
Jack adds, "Bang."
Gobber's head goes back and he starts snoring, causing Jack and Stein to chuckle at him.
An awkward silence fell over the two once they finished.
"A student gave me Sparky." Stein told Jack. "I came into my office one day and saw a rather large water goblet on my desk, with a note. The note told me to tap the goblet three times; I did so…and…the goblet turned into my Sparky. It was a transfiguration spell, quite difficult to do on a kanine." He lightly laughed. "I was rather impressed. The note with my gift had been signed by your mother. Sparky wasn't hit by a car, Jack, he starved himself. I believe Sparky felt my sadness after what happened to your mother and…it was too much for him." Stein sniffled. "I know why you're here. But I can't help you. It would ruin me."
"The night my friends and I got our scars, my mother was in the room with us. She was there to defend us. It was her choice to be the last line of defense for the nine of us. She loved not only her friends enough to defend their children, but she loved seven babies, that weren't even hers, enough to sacrifice her life for them." Jack stood and brisked to the table. "If you don't give me your memory to help my friends and I learn more about Justin Babcock to defeat him, then…you will have disgraced my mother and her sacrifice."
Stein put his wand to his head. "Please, just, don't think less of me after you see this. You have no idea what he was like, even back then." He pulled the memory out and tapped it into a vial he had on hand.
Jack grasped Stein's hand as he took the vial. "Thank you, professor."
