Nearly two days had passed and at the Dragneel household there was one thing that was going to be extremely difficult for both Natsu and Lucy. Probably the most difficult task of their whole lives. Nashi's powers are extremely uncontrollable due to her only being just three months old.
Natsu had picked her up to play with her when she sneezed and burned his face. Natsu put her down on the floor to crawl around, while he went to prepare dinner for himself, Happy and Lucy. After only a couple minutes, she bumped into a side table next to the couch and knocked over the vase on top. The flowers fell out and water poured on top of Nashi's head, then out of nowhere she started glowing and Aquarius appeared in the middle of the house. She wasn't too happy to be summoned.
"I told you not to call me for the next two weeks, what do YOU want!" she shouted at Lucy.
"I….I didn't summon you," she replied in fear as her body shook.
"If it wasn't you. Then who did?"
Nashi cheerfully crawled over to her and hugged her tail. She looked up at her smiling and giggling. Aquarius picked up the baby and looked into her eyes. Lucy apologized profusely to Aquarius for Nashi summoning her, but what came after that was something she never expected. Aquarius hugged Nashi and repeatedly kissed her cheeks.
"That was you who summoned me? And without the use of my key?" she said happily.
Lucy screamed, she could not believe her eyes. She was so shocked and confused to see that Aquarius was happy to be summoned.
"You're so much stronger than that spoiled brat you have as a mother! And you are just SO precious!" Aquarius said, while nuzzling Nashi who loved the attention. "I so want you to be my master in the future. Instead of your pain in the ass mother."
She handed Nashi back to Lucy and whispered in her ear.
"If you ever mistreat this child. I will end your life."
Aquarius then put her hand on Nashi's face, giving her one last kiss. "I have to go home now sweetie pie, but don't worry, we'll see each other again soon. And you can summon me anytime."
Aquarius went back to the celestial spirit world. Nashi didn't want her to go and started to cry loudly. Lucy layed back on the couch with Nashi crying in her arms.
"Natsu, can you please take her? I need to lay down for a while," Lucy said in dismay.
Natsu picked her up and tried to calm her down. He gently rubbed and patted her back, but it didn't help. He looked into her eyes and started making faces at her, her tears quickly turned into giggles. Him and Happy started to tickle her. Happy tickled her face with his tail which unfortunately, had accidentally brushed against her nose. Natsu noticed that Nashi was about to sneeze again.
"Oh no!" he cried. Natsu ran quickly and held her in front of the fireplace. Nashi let out a big sneeze and lots of fire shot straight into the fireplace. He was relieved that he was able to prevent anything from catching on fire. But, he did smell something burning.
Natsu ran over to the oven as fast as he could and pulled out a very burnt suckling pig. Natsu felt really ashamed of himself.
"Not again!" he whined.
"Oh no," Lucy said. Nashi sneezed again and charred the pig completely, reducing it to ash.
Natsu handed Nashi to Lucy. "No worries! I can fix this. You take her, and I'll be right back. I'm gonna go find us some food."
"Hey wait!" Lucy shouted as Natsu and Happy ran out the door, their hurried steps akin to their usual manner while their hunting in the wild. Even faster if Lucy thought about it. It was more like they were the ones being chased. "It's your turn to feed her!"
She sighed in annoyance that he left her to feed Nashi again. The very hungry infant grew very fussy and began to whimper. Lucy pulled out some pureed blackberries and mixed them in with her formula, as this technique would often get Nashi to eat whenever she became this fussy.
Lucy sat back on the couch as she tried to feed her. Nashi wouldn't stop crying and squirming around in her arms. She kept pushing the bottle away from her.
"Huh? But Nashi you love it when I do this" Lucy said in confusion.
Nashi continued to fuss and squirm around, she then sneezed fire and burned the corner of the couch as well as curtains. Lucy screamed, she quickly picked up a glass of water off the table and threw it over the fire to put it out. She sighed in relief.
"Bless you," Lucy said to Nashi. Shortly after Nashi started to glow. She reached out her little hands and Virgo appeared right before them.
"Would you like to punish me princess?" she asked.
"Now is not the time! I'm very busy right now!" Lucy replied as she struggled to feed Nashi.
"Can little princess punish me? After all she did summon me" Virgo replied as she looked at Nashi.
"She's just a baby, how can she even-"
Virgo quickly interrupted her "I can give her piggyback rides, she can spank me or even bite me on the nose."
She took the still very fussy Nashi from Lucy, and held her in her arms.
"Would you like that little princess?" she asked before playfully giving her a boop on the nose. Nashi had calmed down and giggled at Virgo. She stared happily at her. Nashi's stomach let out a very large growl.
Virgo looked down and picked up the bottle on the side table next to Lucy. Eying its contents, she commented "Little Princess is coming into her inherited fire powers. She may prefer her food to be warmed up." That said, she procured a pot of water on the stove, placing the bottle within until the water was simering, then she offered nashi the warmed the nipple of the bottle entered her mouth she drank it quickly. "There you go," she said.
Lucy was gobsmacked that she didn't think of that, starting in stupefied amazement the whole time as this was going on. When did Virgo become an authority on parenting?
As soon as Nashi finished the bottle, her need was fulfilled and Virgo's gate closed, sending her back to the celestial spirit world. Nashe begane to fall towards the floor. Lucy screamed and quickly dove off the couch, catching her before she hit the floor. She sighed in relief as Nashi giggled, enjoying this new fun game mommy was playing with her.
"That was close"
After an hour had passed, Lucy turned towards the window, looking for Natsu outside their quaint little home but only seeing the sun setting over the woods. Why was he taking so long? She put Nashi over her shoulder and sighed.
"Where did your father run off to this time?" she asked while burping her. Nashi then spat up on Lucy and giggled.
Lucy let out another sigh. "Oh Nashi." she said before cleaning her daughter, then herself. "You silly baby."
Lucy couldn't help but smile and giggle though. She kissed the top of her daughter's head and then softly stroked her face with a lone finger. She then snuggled her to her body, hugging her close and cuddling her, feeling a contented peace in just holding her in her arms. She was thinking about how her daughter was destined to become the strongest wizard in the world, and what the future could hold for her.
She felt that mother's pride, but there was also a bit of wariness. Grand destinies often came with hardships and heartache. Though Lucy was not at all selfish, and understood that the world may or may not depend on her daughter's strength one day, she would still be her baby girl, and her mother's instincts wouldn't allow her to go so easily.
Lucy lovingly caressed her face and gave her another kiss on the forehead. Nashi nuzzled Lucy and giggled cheerfully.
"No matter what, you will always be my sweet little girl." she said lovingly gazing into her baby's bright brown eyes. "I love you Nashi."
Their quiet moment was interrupted when Natsu and Happy busted through the door, covered in feathers. Lucy was ever so confused now.
"Hey Lucy, I brought dinner," he said smiling while holding up a half dead chicken, which squirmed around trying to break free of his grasp.
"Uh Natsu, where did you get a live chicken? What store would sell that!? Unless….tell me you didn't just 'find' it in someone's yard. That could be someone's pet! And, uhh, I'm not even that hungry." After she said that her stomach growled loudly and her face became as red as Erza's hair. Natsu laughed at Lucy's face.
"Sounds like your tummy has betrayed you," said Happy, smirking at her.
"I didn't get it from someone's yard! I wouldn't do that! Happy and I found him in the mountains. He's a wild one." Natsu said with a reassuring attitude.
Happy nodded his head and added to what Natsu said. "These kinds of chickens are known to sneak into local farms late at night and eat crops like no tomorrow. But once you cook them they're super tasty."
"Alright. But don't you think you're off the hook with shirking 'baby-feeding' duties earlier! You're the one that's gonna get her down for the night and get up when she needs one of us in the middle of the night. Now come on, I'm starving!"
"You heard the lady Happy."
"Boy, Lucy sure can be scary when she's hungry!" Happy said nervously.
"Nah, she's just looking out for all of us. And that's what parents are like" Natsu replied as he pulled out a knife to butcher the chicken after it finally died.
