S1:E7: Traveling Around the World with You (pt. 3)
Soon, Kathy and Knuckles walked outside of the house. They can see how sunny and clear the sky is outside since it was still summer. Kathy smiled brightly as she enjoyed the warm sunlight of this beautiful day. Knuckles smiled a little too as he also enjoyed the warm, clear day. Ahh...Perfect. What a wonderful day to go traveling. This little adventure is going to be great. Knuckles pondered calmly with a gentle smile as he stared at the sunny, clear sky above. He closed the door behind himself before looking at Kathy with a warm smile on his face.
"Do you want to walk a little with me or do you want to fly?" Knuckles asked calmly with a warm smile.
"Teehee! I don't mind walking a little with you, Knuckles. I do like walks quite a bit," Kathy answered calmly with a light giggle and with a bright smile as she looked at Knuckles.
"Heh...So you like walking but not running I take it?" Knuckles calmly replied in amusement as he grinned a lot at that.
"Yes, because I don't run out of breath while walking," Kathy answered calmly with an annoyed look on her face as she frowned a little and as she had her eyelids down halfway.
"Ahahahahahahahahahaha! Be glad that Sonic isn't here to hear that! Hahahahahahaha! Because that guy likes to go fast! Not slow! Hahahahahahahahaha!" Knuckles exclaimed happily with a huge grin as he laughed a lot at that amusing answer.
"Boy, do I!" Sonic exclaimed brightly with an amused grin as he stopped in front of Kathy and Knuckles after running back to Tails' house with a basketball in his hands.
"Ack! Sonic! You're back?!" Knuckles exclaimed in shock as he immediately stopped laughing and looked shocked instead.
"Well, duh. Didn't I already tell you that I was planning to play some b-ball with Tails? But anyways, you seem to be pretty happy, Knuckles. Did Kathy make you laugh again?" Sonic replied calmly yet teasingly with a knowing smile as he held the ball under his right arm now.
"Ah! Uhh...Uhh...Sh-Sh-Shut up! It's none of your business!" Knuckles yelled in shock and in embarrassment as he blushed a lot while looking irritated again. Can't I just walk out of this house in peace?! Why do I always have to get annoyed by Sonic before doing something fun with Kathy?! Why?! Knuckles brooded in irritation as he coldly glared at Sonic.
"I'm going to take that as a 'yes'. But anyways, Kathy? Is Tails done with the X-Tornado yet? I want to play some b-ball with him," Sonic replied calmly with a gentle smile as he looked at Knuckles before looking at Kathy.
"Umm...No, Sonic. Tails is still working on his plane. But enough about that, what's 'b-ball'?" Kathy replied calmly before asking curiously with a little frown as she titled her head in a cute way again.
"Hmm? Oh, oops, sorry, I meant 'basketball'," Sonic clarified with a sheepish smile.
"What's 'basketball'?" Kathy asked curiously while looking confused.
"Uhh...Oh! Yeah! This ball right here is called a 'basketball'. You can play basketball with your friends or with yourself! Like this for instance!" Sonic replied calmly yet brightly with a smile as he held onto the basketball again in his hands before he dribbled it onto the ground for emphasis.
"Whoa!" Kathy awed in surprise as she saw how fast Sonic is dribbling the basketball. Sonic smirked at Kathy as he quickly dribbled the ball with both hands. He then dribbled the ball around in a circle before bouncing it up into the air and catching it with the back of his hand while making it roll onto his arms.
"Cool! How did you do that?!" Kathy exclaimed in awe as she smiled in amusement of this.
"It's all about practice, baby! And smooth skills too!" Sonic answered brightly with a cocky smirk as he spun the basketball around on his finger while having crossing one leg onto the other in a cool way.
"Man, you're full of tricks, Sonic! You're a lot more amazing than I thought!" Kathy exclaimed brightly with a sweet smile on her face as she stared at Sonic.
Knuckles, of course, rolled his eyes at that while frowning a lot at Sonic. Tch. Show off...Knuckles brooded in annoyance as he glared at Sonic with a deep frown.
"You don't even know the half of it, Kathy. Hey, while on the subject, do you want to hang out with me, Kathy? You could learn more about me if we hung out together. I'm pretty curious as to what you are too. You're pretty amazing yourself since you're half-kaiju and all that," Sonic replied calmly with a smile as he kept spinning the basketball on his finger.
Kathy blushed a little at that as she smiled a little at Sonic. She replied humbly with a little smile, "Thank you, Sonic. I haven't had anybody say that I'm amazing before. You're too kind, Sonic. Thank you".
Kathy then bowed her head a little towards Sonic after thanking him again. Sonic blushed a little at that response and had held onto the basketball in his hands again. Heheheheh...Kathy sure is sweet with her words...That's for sure...Sonic pondered calmly with a little blush as he stared back at Kathy with a sheepish smile.
Knuckles growled lowly after seeing Sonic flirting with Kathy again. He held onto Kathy's hand tighter as he replied calmly yet curtly with a frown, "Anyways, Sonic, we're about to head off. Kathy and I are going on another adventure, and you're not invited".
"Oh, really? Is it true, Kathy? Are you and Knuckles going out again?" Sonic asked coyly with a knowing smile as he stared at Knuckles before at Kathy again. Knuckles had to bite his lip to stop himself from shouting again. I've scared Kathy too many times before, and I'm not going to do that again. But even still! Why does this have to be so hard?! Grrrrrrr! Knuckles brooded with a grimace as he glared coldly at Sonic with a vein bulging in his head.
"Why yes, Sonic! We are going out again! I've decided that I'm going spend time with Knuckles today!" Kathy exclaimed brightly yet innocently with a sweet smile on her jovial face.
"Oh, I see. Well then...looks like you two are out on a date again!" Sonic replied calmly yet brightly in amusement as he smiled a lot at that.
"Grrrrck!" Knuckles uttered a guttural as he cringed a lot after hearing Sonic say the word "date" again. ...Don't you even say that, Sonic! If you keep saying that word, then Kathy will-! Knuckles brooded with a grimace as glared at Sonic while cringing.
But to Knuckles' absolute horror, Kathy then asked the dreaded question.
"What's a 'date'?" Kathy asked curiously yet innocently with a confused look on her face as she titled her head in a cute way again.
"...! NOOOOOO!" Knuckles gasped in horror before shouting in panic as he stared at Kathy with a terrified look on his face. His face had turned beet red, and his head had sweated a lot as he panicked. THANKS A LOT, SONIC! NOW LOOK AT WHAT YOU HAD DONE! YOU'VE SOILED KATHY'S PURE MIND WITH THAT "DATE" TALK! I'VE TOLD YOU A DOZEN OF TIMES TO NOT SAY THAT WORD YESTERDAY, BUT DID YOU LISTEN?! NO! YOU JUST LIKE TO SAY THAT WORD AS IF IT WAS SWEET AS CANDY! BUT GUESS WHAT?! EVEN SWEET THINGS CAN ROT YOUR TEETH! IN FACT, I'LL DEMONSTRATE IT BY KNOCKING YOUR TEETH OUT FIRST! Knuckles brooded in anger while still looking terrified as he stared at Kathy with wide eyes and with a wide mouth.
"Ahahahahahahahahaha! Oh! My! Word! That...That's too cute! Ahahahahahahahahahahaha!" Sonic exclaimed happily in amusement as he laughed a lot at that. He clutched onto the basketball tightly into his arms as he laughed a lot.
"Huh? What's so funny, Sonic? Why are you laughing? And...Knuckles? Why are do you look so frightened and embarrassed?" Kathy asked curiously in confusion as she stared at Sonic before staring at Knuckles.
"Do you really want to know?!" Sonic and Knuckles exclaimed at the same time as Sonic was smiling a lot in amusement while Knuckles was frowning a lot in embarrassment.
"Ummm...Maybe?" Kathy answered shyly with a sheepish smile and with a blush.
"KATHY!" Knuckles shouted in shock as he looked even more frightened and embarrassed.
"Awwww, what's wrong, Knuckles? Can't you just tell her what a 'date' is? I think that it's rather...appropriate if you were the one to explain it. Not I. Besides, you have a cru-" Sonic replied calmly yet teasingly with a grin as he stared at Knuckles.
"I DON'T HAVE A CRUSH!" Knuckles shouted in embarrassment as he blushed deeply at that while having his eyes closed.
"Awwwww...Someone's blushing!" Sonic teased playfully with a coy smirk as he pointed at Knuckles' face with his left hand.
"SONIC! YOU ARE ALMOST BECOMING LIKE ROUGE! JUST STOP IT RIGHT NOW OR ELSE I'LL-!" Knuckles shouted in anger and in embarrassment while having his eyes closed and while having a vein popping in his head.
BAM!
Suddenly, Knuckles got hit in the face with a basketball as Sonic threw it at him. Knuckles cringed in pain after feeling the hard basketball hit his face.
"Knuckles! Are you alright?!" Kathy exclaimed in shock and in concern as she stared at Knuckles while he was cringing in pain.
"I'm...I'm fine, Kathy. But Sonic on the other hand..." Knuckles replied calmly with a solemn frown as he opened his eyes to stare at Kathy before glaring at Sonic with gritted teeth. Sonic was just smiling coyly at Knuckles while waving at him in playfulness. Knuckles narrowed his eyes at Sonic and had frowned deeply at him as he despised that coy look very much.
Knuckles then finished calmly yet darkly, "...He's going to wake up at the bottom of the ocean tomorrow morning".
"Dude. I only just hit you with a basketba-" Sonic replied calmly with an amused smile as he shrugged at Knuckles.
"DON'T TEST ME!" Knuckles shouted in anger as he cut off Sonic while pointing at him with his right hand.
"Hehehehehehehehe! You're so funny, little doggie," Kathy replied calmly yet happily as she giggled a lot at this as she beamed at Knuckles.
"...Uhhh..." Knuckles muttered awkwardly with a little frown and a deep blush as he glanced back at Kathy while still pointing at Sonic. He can see her giggling happily at him, and he can feel the corners of his mouth twitching upwards in amusement since hearing Kathy's innocent giggles is calming him down. ...I'll...I'll never understand why Kathy's happiness calms me down...Maybe it's because...she's sees something humorous in frustrating times such as these that I can't help but find it humorous too. Yeah, I'm still frustrated, but...it's less worse the more you laugh at it...Knuckles pondered calmly with a little smile on his face.
"Kathy?" Knuckles muttered quietly with a little smile as he lowered his right arm.
"Hehehehehe! Yeah?" Kathy asked curiously with a sweet smile as she giggled a little.
"...Thanks," Knuckles thanked calmly with a little smile as he stared at Kathy.
"Huh? For what?" Kathy asked curiously while looking confused.
"Nothing. Just...thanks," Knuckles replied calmly with a little smile and with half-lidded eyes. Kathy still looked at him in confusion and in curiosity as she doesn't get why Knuckles is thanking her. But she soon smiled a little back as she appreciated the gratitude regardless. Knuckles is so sweet. I may not know what I did to deserve his thanks, but...I'm happy that he thanked me. Kathy pondered calmly with a little smile.
"Heh...Can I call you 'little doggie' too, Knuckles?" Sonic asked calmly yet teasingly with a coy smirk and with lowered eyelids.
"That depends..." Knuckles replied calmly with a devious smirk as he looked back at Sonic while continuing mischievously, "...would you allow me to call you 'Sooonic!' too? Because Amy calls you in that manner at times, so why not me?".
Sonic then frowned a lot at that and had a sweat drop on his head as he replied calmly, "Never mind. I'd rather NOT have you call me that in that manner too".
"Hmph. I thought so," Knuckles replied calmly yet deviously with a smug look on his face.
Kathy smiled a lot at that as she looked at Knuckles while asking brightly, "Does that mean I'm the only one who gets to call you 'little doggie' then?".
Knuckles looked at Kathy and smiled warmly at her as he replied calmly, "Why yes, Kathy. Only you can get to say that. You're...You're just special...That's all...".
"...R-Really? 'Special'?" Kathy repeated quietly in awe with sparkling, light-blue eyes as she smiled widely at Knuckles.
"...Yes, Kathy. You're special. You're very precious to me. I...I just feel like you're the only one who can say that about me...Besides, I...want you to say that to me...often..." Knuckles replied softly with a warm smile and with twinkling, violet eyes as he stared at Kathy.
"..." Kathy was silent as she stared gently at Knuckles with a fond look on her face.
"..." Knuckles was silent as well as he stared gently at Kathy with a fond look on his face.
"...(Sigh)...I just don't get you, Knuckles. You say all the time that you don't have a crush, and yet, you are acting like a love-struck fool in front of Kathy. Ugh...You really can be a knucklehead at times, Knuckles. Literally," Sonic replied calmly with a sigh and with a sheepish frown as he walked over and picked up the basketball again from the ground before staring at Knuckles and Kathy.
"Ah! Hey! Who said anything about 'love'?! It's not...It's not like that! It's not!" Knuckles exclaimed in embarrassment and in annoyance as he glared back at Sonic.
"Uh huh. Sure, it is," Sonic replied calmly with a sheepish frown and with lowered eyelids.
"I swear that it's not! Kathy and I are just...just...teammates! That's all there is! Good teammates!" Knuckles exclaimed back with a deep frown as his face was red.
"...Who are about to go on a date," Sonic replied calmly with a smug grin and with lowered eyelids.
"It's not a date!" Knuckles yelled back with gritted teeth.
"Whatever. Say, can I go inside? I want to at least check up with Tails and maybe convince him to take a break from his repair work. You know...something that you don't do apparently," Sonic replied calmly with a smile and a shrug as he stared at Knuckles.
"...Shut. Up," Knuckles muttered through gritted teeth as he looked irritated. Sonic rolled his eyes at that before walking forward towards Knuckles and Kathy. They soon stepped to the side and had let Sonic grab the doorknob to enter the house. Sonic soon opened the door and went inside before looking back at Knuckles and Kathy one last time to smile at them.
"Well, anyways, have fun with your date!" Sonic exclaimed brightly with a playful smile and with a wink before closing the door.
"Sonic! For the last time, it's not a-!" Knuckles yelled angrily with a grimace as he glared at Sonic.
SLAM!
Knuckles frowned a lot after seeing Sonic slam the door at him. He looked annoyed as he brooded. He must think that he's so coy by saying it's a date. He's definitely up to something. I don't know what he's planning, but it doesn't sound good to me.
"Hmm...Knuckles?" Kathy asked quietly with a curious look on her face as she stared at Knuckles.
"H-Huh? Yes, Kathy?" Knuckles asked in slight surprise as he looked back at Kathy with wide eyes and with a little frown.
"...What's a 'date'? I still haven't gotten an answer yet," Kathy replied curiously with an innocent look on her face as she titled her head in a cute way again.
"Uhhhhh! Ummmm!" Knuckles muttered awkwardly in nervousness as he blushed deeply again. His heart was pounding fast, and his stomach was turning into knots as he felt very nervous into answering Kathy's question. ...Do I dare to lie to her? I mean...I...I'm not sure if I'll be ready if Kathy asks me out for a date if I tell her what it really means. If I can just substitute the definition for something else, then...Ah! Knuckles pondered calmly while looking nervous and embarrassed before he looked surprised when an idea came into his head.
He then smiled sheepishly at Kathy as he lied awkwardly, "Uhhh...W-Well...You see, Kathy...'Date' is short for...uhh...'daytime-hangout'...Y-Yeah...That was what Sonic had meant...It's kinda like...how the word 'b-ball' is short for 'basketball'...They mean the same thing...They're just...spelled differently...".
"Ohhh...That makes sense!" Kathy exclaimed in understanding as she smiled a lot while nodding her head.
"Whew! Yeah...It does," Knuckles replied in relief as he sighed and smiled a lot with Kathy. Knuckles...You are a genius...Dodged a bullet on that one...Knuckles pondered calmly with a relived smile on his face.
But just when Knuckles had thought that, Kathy said this.
"So, I guess that means we really are on a date!" Kathy exclaimed happily yet innocently with a sweet smile on her face.
"Ah! Uhhh...Uhhhh..." Knuckles muttered in nervousness as he looked shocked and was blushing very much at that innocent statement. ...Oh...What have I just done? Me and my big mouth...Knuckles pondered calmly while looking embarrassed.
"Huh? What's wrong, Knuckles? Why are you blushing so much?" Kathy asked curiously as she stared at Knuckles' bashful face.
"Ack! Uh! It's nothing! It's nothing! Let's...uhh...start walking then..." Knuckles replied quickly yet awkwardly in nervousness while he kept blushing as he looked away from Kathy in shyness.
"...Oh! Okay!" Kathy exclaimed happily with a smile and a nod as she started to walk along the sidewalk with Knuckles. Knuckles then sighed again as he walked with Kathy. He was still frowning in embarrassment and was looking down at the ground in shyness. Just when I thought that I can avoid having Kathy say the word 'date', I just had to encourage her into doing that by lying to her. Ugh...No wonder that I don't lie very often...Lies had always screwed me over in more ways than one...Knuckles pondered calmly with a flushed face as he stared at the ground.
"Hey, Knuckles? Where should we go next?" Kathy asked calmly with a little frown as she stood at the end of the sidewalk and looked right and left at the neighborhood.
"Hmm? Oh, uh, we're going right," Knuckles answered calmly yet briefly as he looked at the right.
"Alright. Lead the way, Knuckles," Kathy replied calmly with a smile and a nod as she looked at Knuckles.
"Hmph...I will," Knuckles replied calmly with a smile as he looked back at Kathy. Kathy beamed at him as he stared at her, and Knuckles smiled fondly back at her before continuing to walk along the sidewalk as he turned right. Kathy turned right with Knuckles, and they walked towards the western exit of Emerald Town while holding hands.
[Five Minutes Later]
"Where are we, Knuckles? This place looks rather lovely," Kathy said calmly yet curiously with a smile after breaking the brief, peaceful silence. She was looking at some palm trees and at some lush, bright green, hills with flowers, bridges, and waterfalls.
"This place is called Emerald Hill. It's located west from Emerald Town. The town's name was based off of this place," Knuckles answered calmly with a little smile as he looked at Kathy.
"Whoa...Really? This beautiful place?" Kathy asked curiously in awe as she smiled a lot at Knuckles.
Knuckles smiled a lot at that cute reaction as he answered calmly, "Yes, Kathy. They named it after this beautiful place".
"Wow! Cool! I couldn't blame the people for choosing this place to name after! It's amazing!" Kathy exclaimed brightly with a huge grin as she looked at the bright green hills and the waterfalls again.
"Heh...It sure is, Kathy. It sure is," Knuckles replied calmly with a warm smile and with twinkling, violet eyes as he stared at Kathy's jovial face. This place certainly is beautiful and amazing, but it's even more so with Kathy here. Her tropical beauty fits perfectly with this tropical place. It's much better this way...Knuckles pondered calmly with a warm smile.
"Is this one of the places that you wanted to show me?" Kathy asked curiously with a sweet smile as she looked at Knuckles again while she and him were walking across a bridge.
"Well...Kind of...The first place that I wanted to show you is close to here...In fact...if we walk through the right direction of the fork in the road...we'll get to where we needed to go," Knuckles replied calmly with a smile and a little shrug before he looked ahead and pointed at the right path of the fork.
"Ooooh, okay! I can't wait see what this new place is! Emerald Hill is already a wonderful place to be in! I can't imagine what the rest of the places are going to be like!" Kathy exclaimed brightly with an excited grin while she looked at the fork in the road too as she and Knuckles walked closer to it after crossing the bridge.
"Hmph...Oh, you'll find out..." Knuckles replied calmly yet coyly with an amused grin as he looked at Kathy before looking at the road again. He and Kathy soon reached the fork in the road and had turned right again. They walked through a little forest in silence with calm smiles on their faces.

"Are we there yet?" Kathy asked quietly yet coyly in amusement with a playful smile as she looked at Knuckles.
"No," Knuckles answered calmly with an amused smile while looking ahead.
"...Are we there yet?" Kathy asked again in playfulness.
"Heh...No," Knuckles answered again in amusement as he smiled bigger.
"Okay...But are we at least there yet?" Kathy replied playfully with an amused smile and with twinkling eyes.
"Kathy...Don't," Knuckles replied calmly in amusement as he looked at Kathy with a smug smile.
"What? I don't know what you're talking about," Kathy replied calmly yet coyly in amusement with a silly smile.
"..." Knuckles didn't say anything but smiled smugly at Kathy since he knew what she is doing. Yet again...he can't help but adore her for it.
"Hehehehehehehe! ...Are we there yet, Knuckles?" Kathy asked coyly in amusement with an innocent smile as she giggled a lot at Knuckles' smug face.
"Are you really going to make me spoil the surprise for you? Hmm? Are you?" Knuckles asked teasingly in playfulness with a smug smile and with amused, violet eyes.
"Hehehehehehehehehehe! Hahahahahahahahaha! Maybe..." Kathy answered coyly in amusement with a playful smile while giggling very much at this. Knuckles smiled a lot at this and shook his head. What a silly girl...Sigh...Knuckles pondered calmly with a huge smile as he stared back at Kathy in amusement.
"Kathy...I'll warn you...If you ask me that one more time...I'm going to poke you," Knuckles replied calmly yet playfully in amusement as he smiled hugely at her.
"Hehehehehehehehe! Okay! Fine! I won't say it again!" Kathy exclaimed jovially in amusement with a silly smile as she giggled a little.
"Good. Now just be quiet and wait..." Knuckles replied calmly in amusement with a playful smile as he looked ahead of him again. He and Kathy kept walking through the forest for a little while in silence. He was a bit surprised that Kathy had stayed quiet for a long time. That is until he heard her say it again.
"...So...Are we there ye-Ack! Hehehehehehehehehehehe! Hahahahahahahahahahahaha! Knuckles! Stop! Stop!" Kathy asked coyly with a playful grin before she giggled hard and protested playfully as she felt Knuckles poking her sensitive tummy with his right hand.
"I warned you, silly girl. Now, you're going to pay the price," Knuckles replied calmly yet playfully in amusement with a devious grin as he kept poking Kathy in the tummy.
"Hehehehehehehehehehehehe! I'm sorry! I'm sorry! Hehehehehehehehehehe! Quit it!" Kathy protested playfully in amusement with a huge smile as she giggled a lot at the poking.
"Oh, I might stop...but this is rather fun for me," Knuckles replied calmly yet teasingly in amusement with a devious smirk as he poked Kathy's tummy and right side. Kathy giggled harder and squirmed a lot as Knuckles kept poking her.
"Hahahahahahahahahahaha! Hehehehehehehehehe! No! Stop! Hahahahahahahahaha! Oh, that's it! Take that!" Kathy exclaimed happily in amusement as she giggled a lot before she looked devious as she started to poke Knuckles back at his tummy and left side with her left hand.
"Ahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha! Kathy! Stop! Hehehehehehehehehe! No fair! Hahahahahahahahaha!" Knuckles protested playfully in amusement as he giggled a lot to the poking while squirming a lot. He had immediately stopped poking Kathy after she started poking him back.
"Oh, yes, it's fair! You poked me first! So now it's your turn to pay the price!" Kathy exclaimed playfully in amusement with a teasing grin as she kept poking Knuckles repeatedly in the stomach and left side.
"Hahahahahahahahahaha! But I'm ticklish! Stop! Stahahahahahahahahahap!" Knuckles exclaimed back in amusement with a huge smile as he kept squirming and giggling like a girl.
"Hehehehehe! Okay, I'll stop. Geez, Knuckles, you really are weak when it comes to tickling. You didn't even fight me back by poking me more," Kathy replied calmly in amusement with a little giggle and with a bright smile as she stopped poking Knuckles.
"Of course, I can't! I told you yesterday that I'm very ticklish! I couldn't fight back even if I tried!" Knuckles exclaimed back in amusement with a huge smile as he held his tummy with his right hand.
"Hehehehe...Is that true?" Kathy asked playfully with an amused look on her face as she giggled a little.
"Yes! Heheheheheh..." Knuckles answered immediately in amusement with a playful grin as he chuckled a bit.
"Hehe...If that's the case, then I bet that you can't win in a tickle fight. Hehehehe! That's a rather amusing thought. Knuckles, the toughest warrior, losing in a tickle fight. Hehehehe! It's rather cute!" Kathy replied calmly yet brightly with a playful grin as she giggled a little.
Knuckles blushed very much in embarrassment after hearing Kathy say that. The sad part about that statement is that it's true. It's probably the only kind of fight that he loses every single time. It's...rather humiliating in hindsight.
Knuckles soon smiled shyly at Kathy as he blushed brightly in embarrassment as he replied awkwardly with a nervous chuckle, "Uhhh...Heheheh...Y-Yeah...I would definitely lose if I was in that kind of fight...Uhhh...Huh...Mmm...".
"Hehehe! Awwww, is someone being shy?" Kathy teased playfully in amusement with a little giggle and with a sweet smile as she stared at Knuckles' bashful face.
"What?! No!" Knuckles exclaimed in shock and in nervousness as he immediately turned his head away from Kathy in shyness.
"Hehehehehehehe! Awwwwww! You are being shy! You're so cute, Knuckles! Hehehehehe!" Kathy exclaimed jovially with a bright smile as she giggled a lot at Knuckles' cute reaction.
"...Stop..." Knuckles whined shyly with a bashful look on his face as he stared at the trees instead of Kathy. Despite blushing a lot, Knuckles was smiling a lot in shyness as he felt happy that Kathy is embarrassing him like this again.
"Awwwwwwww...Look who's smiling? You are, little Troublemaker! Yeah! You are!" Kathy replied happily yet playfully with a silly smile as she gently poked at Knuckles' left cheek with her finger.
"Heheheheheheh...Kathy...Quit it...Heheheheh..." Knuckles whined playfully in amusement with a huge smile while chuckling nervously as he blushed deeper after feeling the little, gentle pokes to his cheek.
"Hehehehehe...Do you know what I like about you, Knuckles?" Kathy asked coyly with another giggle and with a sweet smile as she stopped poking Knuckles' left cheek.
"...No...What?" Knuckles replied shyly with a little smile as he looked back at Kathy with a flushed face. Kathy giggled sweetly at him before gently rubbing his head with her left hand.
"It's that you're very shy. It's adorable!" Kathy answered jovially with a happy smile as she gently stroked Knuckles' head a lot
"...! Ah...Uhhhhhh...Ummmm..." Knuckles gasped in surprise before muttering awkwardly in speechlessness as he stared at Kathy with a shocked yet bashful face. He nodded his head a bit while feeling Kathy's gentle strokes to it. He can feel his face melting in warmth as his heart exploded in adoration after hearing Kathy say that. He didn't know what to say. He just heard her say that she likes his shyness, and for a moment...he felt very loved by her.
"...M-M-Marry me..." Knuckles mumbled shyly in adoration as he smiled fondly with a flustered face.
"Huh? Did you say something, Knuckles?" Kathy asked curiously with a little frown as she stopped stroking Knuckles' head.
"AH! NOTHING! IT WAS NOTHING!" Knuckles shouted in panic with a shocked yet embarrassed face as he realized what he just said. JUST WHAT IS GOING ON WITH ME?! WHY...WHY DID I SAY THAT?! AM I...AM I CRAZY OR SOMETHING?! Knuckles pondered in panic as he mentally cringed with a flustered face.
"...Huh?" Kathy muttered in confusion as she tilted her head in a cute way again while still staring at Knuckles. Knuckles' heart had skipped a beat after seeing that cute head tic again.
…...You know what? ...I am crazy...Because...Because...That adorable head tic gets me every time...Knuckles pondered calmly in fondness with a huge, warm smile as he stared back at Kathy in sheepishness.
"Kathy...It's okay. Never mind me. Let's just keep walking on this path. We're getting closer to our destination," Knuckles replied calmly with a warm smile on his flushed face as he looked at Kathy before looking ahead of him.
"Hmmm...Alright! Hehehe!" Kathy replied brightly with a cheerful smile and with a little giggle as she looked at Knuckles before at the road ahead of her.
"Hmph..." Knuckles grunted quietly with a calm smile as he held onto Kathy's hand much tighter.
[10 More Minutes Later]
The rest of the walk was rather quiet as the two guardians walked through the little forest together. They've enjoyed the silence once more as they took in the tranquil forest together. Kathy was smiling a lot as she looked at the tall trees and the clear, blue sky. Knuckles was smiling too as he looked at the trees and the sky as well. He sighed calmly as he felt at ease with himself.
...And the best part about this is that...we're almost there...to one of the most peaceful, beautiful places on Mobius...Knuckles pondered calmly with a smile as he and Kathy reached the end of the forest and had arrived at...
"...Emerald Meadows*..." Knuckles muttered calmly with a warm smile on his face as he and Kathy stopped to look at the beautiful area around them. (* See A/N at the end of the chapter)
"...!" Kathy gasped in shock as her eyes went wide and as her mouth gaped widely in shock. ...It's...It's...It's beautiful...Unbelievable...Kathy pondered in shock as she stared at the breathtaking view of Emerald Meadows.
At the left side of Emerald Meadows, there was one, large, grassy hill with a huge tree at the top of it, and at the back end of the large hill, there were multiple grape vines hanging from the trees of the forest. On the right side of Emerald Meadows, there was a sea of beautiful flowers in all colors and types. The right side is so large that it looked like it stretches for several miles. Miles upon miles of flowers...Anyone who can see that can tell that this place is called Emerald Meadows.
"...I...I can't believe this...This is the place that you wanted to show me, Knuckles?" Kathy muttered calmly yet quietly in awe as she stared at the beautiful meadows before looking at Knuckles.
Knuckles looked at Kathy and smiled fondly at her as his eyelids went down halfway. He then whispered softly, "Yes, Kathy. This the first place that I wanted to show you. I just think that it's the perfect place to start on in our adventure...You like it?".
"...L-Like it? I...I..." Kathy muttered softly with a surprised look on her face as she stared at Knuckles before at the meadows again. She can see how the sunrays are making the meadows look warm and inviting to be at. She started to smile widely and warmly as she adored the place with all her heart.
"...I love it...It's so wonderful, Knuckles. Thank you," Kathy muttered softly with a fond smile and with sparkling eyes as she stared back at Knuckles.
"It was nothing," Knuckles replied calmly with a warm smile and with a nod. Kathy then beamed at him as she released his hand and had fully hugged him at his left side. Knuckles chuckled quietly at this and had held Kathy's left arm with his hands to hug her back. Heheheheh...I knew that Kathy would love this place...I'm...rather fond of this place too...It has my favorite type of fruit in here, so it gets an "A+" from me...Knuckles pondered calmly in amusement as he chuckled a bit while hugging Kathy back a little.
"Mmmm...Okay! Let's walk into the meadows together!" Kathy exclaimed brightly with an excited grin as she lets go of Knuckles and had walked quickly towards the meadows.
"Heheheheheh! Alright! Alright! I'm going! I'm going! Wait up, Kathy! Heheheheheh!" Knuckles exclaimed brightly with an amused grin while chuckling a lot as he stared at Kathy walking farther away from him before walking towards the meadows too. He soon sped up his walking to catch up to Kathy and walked through the meadows with her. He can see her smiling jovially as she looked around at the lovely flowers. He smiled a lot too as he enjoyed being in this peaceful, beautiful place with Kathy at his side.
...This place feels like paradise with her around...A beautiful, gorgeous, moth monster in a beautiful, tranquil place like this...It's so...perfect...So amazing...So wonderful...And so...Knuckles pondered calmly yet fondly with a warm smile and with lowered eyelids as she stared at Kathy while walking beside her on her left.
"...Incredible..." Knuckles whispered softly yet fondly with a warm look on his face.
"I know...Isn't it unbelievable? Your dimension is so full of beauty and life that...it makes me glad that I had chosen to live here instead," Kathy replied calmly in awe as she beamed at Knuckles while walking through the meadows.
"I'm glad too, Kathy. If you hadn't come, then you wouldn't have met me or get to see this wonderful place," Knuckles replied calmly with a warm smile and with a nod.
"...Yeah...I wouldn't..." Kathy muttered softly with an adoring look on her face as she grabbed Knuckles' right arm with both hands and stared deeply into his violet eyes after she stopped walking. Knuckles smiled even wider at her as his eyes widened in amusement while staring back at her sparkling, light-blue eyes. In a way...he felt like he can't move his legs as he stared fondly into her eyes again.
...Kathy...Just staring into your gorgeous eyes makes me feel weak...I can't look away from them...They're so precious to me...Knuckles pondered calmly yet fondly with a warm look on his face.
"...Kathy..." Knuckles whispered softly in fondness as he lowered his eyelids halfway and smiled longingly at Kathy.
"Yeah?" Kathy asked softly yet curiously with a little smile as she moved her face closer to Knuckles.
"...Nothing..." Knuckles muttered softly yet shyly with an amused look on his face. Kathy stared closely at Knuckles with a curious look on her face, and Knuckles smiled widely at her amusement as he enjoyed looking at her curious expression.
They stared gently into each other's eyes for a while before Kathy exclaimed brightly with a grin, "Hey! I got an idea! Why don't we offer each other flowers as a present?!".
"Hahahahahahahaha! Why do you want to do that?! Hahahahahahaha! We got plenty of flowers here! Why give each other flowers when we can enjoy all of them together?! Heheheheheheheh! That's such a silly thing to do! Fitting that you would come up with it, silly girl! Hahahahahahahah! You're so silly! Heheheheheheheh!" Knuckles exclaimed brightly in amusement as he smiled hugely while laughing a lot.
"Aww, but it would be great! We can arrange our own batch of flowers since there are hundreds of colorful flowers here! Come on, Knuckles! Can we do that? Please?" Kathy replied brightly with a jovial look on her face as she stared at Knuckles with hopeful, twinkling eyes.
"Hey, just because I think that it's silly, that doesn't mean that I'm going to prevent you from doing that sort of thing. If you want to do that, then go right ahead, Kathy. You don't need my permission to do what you want to do. Just do what you feel like, and if you want to give me flowers as a present...then...I won't stop you from doing that. It's...rather thoughtful actually," Knuckles replied calmly with a warm smile on his fond face as he stared back into Kathy's eyes.
"Yay! Thank you, Knuckles! I'm going to make you the best flower batch that I can!" Kathy exclaimed brightly with a huge smile as she hugged Knuckles tightly yet fully at the side again.
"Heheheheh...Your welcome, Kathy, and thank you for being considerate towards me...It's rather sweet," Knuckles replied calmly with a chuckle and with a fond smile as he held her right arm with his hands to hug her back. Kathy hugged Knuckles tightly for ten more seconds before she lets go of him and had walked around the meadows a bit to find a spot to pick flowers. Knuckles followed her while having his hands behind his back and while smiling sheepishly at her.
...Sigh...The more I spend time with Kathy...the sweeter she is to me...Someday...my legs are going to give out due how sweet and caring she is towards me...Knuckles pondered calmly yet fondly with a longing, sheepish smile on his face as he stared at Kathy's back and wings. His eyes were mesmerized by Kathy's gorgeous, colorful wings. Just seeing her wings in the bright sunlight enhances their colors so much that it makes them stunning to look at. Perhaps...irresistible.
"...They're so beautiful..." Knuckles muttered softly yet fondly with a longing look on his face.
"I know! There are so many beautiful flowers here! Oooh, picking them is going to be tough!" Kathy replied brightly with a sweet smile as she looked around the meadows before looking back at Knuckles briefly to ask him a question, "Hey, Knuckles? What's your favorite color? I might need some pointers here".
"...Red..." Knuckles answered calmly yet fondly with a longing smile and with half-lidded eyes as he kept staring at Kathy's beautiful wings.
"Oh! Well, that's easy! There's plenty of roses and tulips right her-!" Kathy exclaimed brightly with a grin as she looked at the roses and tulips at her right.
"...And yellow..." Knuckles continued calmly yet fondly with a longing look on his face as he walked slowly towards Kathy.
"Huh? Oh, uh, I'll pick some sunflowers and daffodils too! I didn't know that you have two-" Kathy replied calmly with a slightly surprised look on her face as she looked at Knuckles briefly before looking at the sunflowers and daffodils to her right.
"...And orange...and white...and black..." Knuckles continued calmly yet fondly with a longing look as he stared intensely into Kathy's gorgeous wings. He walked even closer to Kathy and soon stood beside her while grabbing her right shoulder. Kathy quickly looked back at Knuckles after feeling him grab her shoulder. She was surprised when she saw the adoring look on Knuckles' face as he stared deeply into her eyes again. Her heart was pounding fast when she stared back into his caring, violet eyes.
Knuckles then finished by saying gently, "Those colors are so beautiful to me...But the one type of color that is my absolute favorite is...light-blue...It's...the most stunning color of all...".
"..." Kathy was speechless as her mouth gaped a little and as her blush formed on her cheeks. She had wondered why Knuckles would say that, but when she realized where he was getting at...her heart imploded in warmth. Kn-Knuckles...You were saying those were favorite colors because you were...admiring my wings and my...eyes...Why that's...that's so sweet...Kathy pondered calmly yet fondly with a warm smile and with twinkling eyes.
"...Is light-blue really your favorite color?" Kathy asked softly with an adoring look on her face as she stared at Knuckles.
Knuckles stared back at Kathy with an adoring look too as he held her left cheek with his right hand. He gently caressed her cheek with his hand as he answered softly, "...Even if it wasn't before...it is now...".
"...Knuckles..." Kathy muttered softly with a fond smile as she enjoyed Knuckles caressing her cheek.
"...Kathy?" Knuckles asked softly with a fond smile as he stared deeply into her eyes.
"Yeah?" Kathy asked softly yet curiously with a longing smile.
"...What's your favorite color?" Knuckles asked softly yet fondly with a warm smile.
Kathy smiled even more fondly as she blushed a lot in shyness. She then answered softly, "...It's...It's purple...But my favorite type of purple is...violet...That color has always been beautiful to me...".
Knuckles smiled even more warmly at Kathy after hearing that. He can feel his heart soaring upwards just by knowing that Kathy loves the color purple. Specifically violet. He soon stopped caressing Kathy's cheek and just held onto her other shoulder instead. He muttered softly with a warm smile, "...Does that mean you...you...?".
"...Yes, Knuckles. I...I really love your eyes...Your violet irises are truly beautiful...They make you look very handsome..." Kathy replied calmly with a warm smile as she blushed bright pink while staring deeply into Knuckles' eyes.
"...!" Knuckles gasped in shock as he was pleasantly surprised by this adorable confession. He beamed at Kathy after knowing that she loves his violet eyes and thinks that they're beautiful too. While beaming, Knuckles blushed very much as he realized that Kathy thinks he's very handsome.
"...You...You really think so?" Knuckles asked quietly yet shyly with a blushful face while beaming a lot.
Kathy beamed back at him as she held his shoulders too while answering sweetly, "Yep! You look like a king with that royal color!".
"Ahh...Uhhh...D'awwwww...No, I'm not..." Knuckles muttered awkwardly yet shyly with an embarrassed look on his face as he blushed deeply.
"Oh, but you could be if you...uhhh..." Kathy replied calmly yet brightly with a sweet smile before she looked embarrassed as she blushed a lot too.
"Huh? I...What?" Knuckles asked in confusion as his eyebrows were raised and as he had a little frown on his blushful face.
"Oh! Nothing! Hehehehehe!" Kathy exclaimed happily with a bright smile and with a giggle.
"..." Knuckles was speechless as he looked confused. What did Kathy mean by that? And what was she going to say? I'll...I'll never know...Knuckles pondered in confusion as he stared curiously at Kathy.
"...So..." Kathy muttered quietly with a shy smile and with a blush as she leant forward and pressed against Knuckles' chest with her own before asking coyly, "...Do you like my eyes, Knuckles? Do you think that they're...stunning to you?".
"Ack! Uhhhh...Ummm..." Knuckles muttered awkwardly in shyness as he blushed dark red at this especially with Kathy being very close to him. He can see Kathy's light-blue eyes very closely now and can see the little sparkles in her pretty eyes. His blush deepened even more as he was entranced by Kathy's eyes again. ...She's...She's so beautiful...So precious...Knuckles pondered calmly yet fondly as his eyelids went down halfway and as a fond smile grew on his flustered face.
"You really want to know what I think, Kathy?" Knuckles asked calmly yet gently with a fond smile as he kept blushing dark red.
"Mmhm...Please tell me, Knuckles. I'm...I'm curious..." Kathy replied calmly yet gently with a sweet smile and with a nod as she stared straight into Knuckles' flustered face.
"Heh...Very well...I'll tell you..." Knuckles replied calmly with a warm smile on his face as he moved his hands down towards Kathy's arms and gently rubbed them. Kathy was smiling warmly back at Knuckles as she enjoyed him rubbing her arms. Knuckles kept smiling warmly at her while also lowering his eyelids halfway in a fond way. He was still blushing dark red in embarrassment, but he was feeling very elated right now as he confessed to her.
"...Kathy...I've loved your light-blue eyes the very first time we had met. Your eyes...are the most beautiful things in the world...They're like precious jewels to me. I can never stop staring at them...I love staring into your eyes, Kathy. Every single time...like right now..." Knuckles confessed calmly yet fondly with a warm smile while blushing a lot in embarrassment.
Kathy smiled very much after hearing that sweet confession from Knuckles. Her heart imploded with warmth after knowing that Knuckles loves her eyes and thinks that they're beautiful. She blushed a lot as she looked fond at Knuckles.
"...Knuckles..." Kathy muttered softly with a fond smile as her light-blue eyes sparkled.
"...Yeah?" Knuckles asked calmly yet curiously with a fond smile as his violet eyes twinkled.
Kathy was silent as she immediately gave Knuckles a huge, warm hug. Knuckles smiled a lot at this and hugged Kathy back just as warmly. Kathy soon snuggled her head onto Knuckles' left shoulder and nuzzled his neck and cheek in affection. Knuckles immediately snickered after feeling the light nuzzles on his neck and cheek.
"Heheheheheheh...Kathy...Stop...Heheheheheheheh..." Knuckles muttered weakly with a huge smile as he snickered a lot.
"Oh, Knuckles...I just love staring into your eyes too. They're just so handsome and beautiful...I can't help but feel entranced by them...Looking into them makes me happy...You make me happy, Knuckles," Kathy replied calmly yet fondly with a warm smile as she hugged Knuckles more tightly while still nuzzling his neck and cheek.
"You make me happy too, Kathy...Heheheheheheheheh...Like right now...Heheheheheheheh...You're tickling me again...Heheheheheheheheh..." Knuckles replied calmly yet fondly in amusement with a huge smile as he snickered a lot while hugging Kathy more tightly too.
"Teehee! It's because I know that makes you happy easily!" Kathy exclaimed happily with a light giggle and with a sweet smile as she kept nuzzling Knuckles' neck and cheek.
"But that's cheating! Heheheheheheheheheh..." Knuckles exclaimed in amusement with a huge smile as he snickered a lot while looking at Kathy.
"No, it's not. This is cheating," Kathy replied calmly yet playfully with a mischievous grin as she looked at Knuckles while moving her hands down towards his sides and tickled them a little.
"AAAAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! KATHY! QUIT IT! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! IT TICKLES! HEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHE!" Knuckles squealed loudly like a girl as he laughed hysterically while unwrapping his arms from Kathy and trying to push her away from him.
"Hehehehe! Okay!" Kathy exclaimed cheerfully yet playfully with a little giggle and with a bright smile as she stopped tickling and released Knuckles. But as soon as Kathy did that, Knuckles pushed her away a bit too hard and had accidently pushed her down to the ground.
"Oof!" Kathy exclaimed in slight pain as she fell on her back.
"Ah! Kathy!" Knuckles exclaimed in shock as he looked worried. He quickly got over to Kathy and looked down at her in concern. He can see her opening her eyes and stared at him with a little smile on her face.
Knuckles soon bent forward towards Kathy and gave her his hand to help her get up. He replied calmly with a concerned frown, "I'm sorry, Kathy. I didn't mean to push you down. Are you alrig-Ack!".
Just as Kathy grabbed Knuckles' hand, she immediately yanked him down and made him fell on top of her. Knuckles was both confused and shocked when Kathy had done this. He looked at her face in surprise as he exclaimed in shock and in confusion, "Just what are you doing, Kathy?!".
"This," Kathy answered calmly with a playful smile as she pushed Knuckles over to her left and quickly sat up before tickling him silly again.
"AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! NO! NOHOHOHOHOHOHOHOHOHOHOHO! NOT THERE! NOT THERE! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!" Knuckles squealed loudly like a girl again as he laughed hysterically to the tickling. He squirmed a lot as he felt his tummy and sides being tickled a lot.
"A coochie coochie coo! Am I making you happy, Knuckles? Huh? Am I?" Kathy asked playfully with a mischievous smile as she kept tickling Knuckles.
"AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! HEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHE! YES! YES! YOU ARE! YOU ARE! AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! JUST STOP! STOP IT! HEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHE! I'M AS HAPPY AS I CAN BE RIGHT NOW! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! JUST MAKE IT STOP!" Knuckles squealed some more while laughing hysterically and squirming from side to side as he kicked his feet a lot.
"Aww, come on, Knuckles. You know that you want to have some fun. Like right here! A coochie coochie coo!" Kathy replied calmly yet playfully with a silly smile as she moved her hands towards Knuckles' armpits and tickled them next.
"AAAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH! KATHY! QUIT IT! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! HEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHE! COME ON! IT TICKLES ME! HEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHE! I CAN'T TAKE IT!" Knuckles squealed loudly even more as he kept laughing hysterically while still squirming a lot.
"You keep saying that, but you know that you're having fun. Aren't you?" Kathy replied calmly yet playfully with a little smile as she kept tickling Knuckles relentlessly.
"HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! YES! YES, I AM! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! JUST STOP ALREADY! AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! PLEASE! I'M GOING TO CRY IF YOU DON'T STAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAP!" Knuckles squealed some more while laughing hysterically as he was literally on the verge of tears.
"Hahahaha...Okay. Okay. I'll stop. I'll stop. I think that you had enough," Kathy replied calmly with a chuckle and with a warm smile as she stopped tickling Knuckles and put her hands on her lap. Knuckles kept laughing a lot but not as hard as before. He held onto stomach as he slowed his laughter a bit. Kathy stared gently at Knuckles as he recovered from that brief tickle attack. She can see some tears in his eyes as he was busy laughing. She smiled fondly at him as she helped him wiped his tears with her hands. Knuckles soon calmed down his laughter and had decided to take deep breaths while letting Kathy wipe his tears.
"Hehehehehehehehehe...Ahh...Ahh...Ahhhh...(Sigh)…That was fun..." Knuckles replied calmly in relief as he sighed deeply after giggling a little. He opened his eyes and smiled widely at Kathy as he sees her smiling warmly at him.
"...Having a good time, Knuckles?" Kathy asked calmly yet fondly with a warm smile.
"...Yeah...I am," Knuckles answered calmly with a huge, fond smile as he sat back up and stared gently at Kathy.
"Feeling happy?" Kathy asked calmly yet sweetly with a fond smile.
"...Very happy," Knuckles answered calmly with a fond smile and with a nod.
"Good...I'm happy too," Kathy replied calmly with a warm smile as she leant towards him and hugged him warmly again. Knuckles smiled warmly too as he hugged Kathy back just as warmly as her. He stared at Kathy as he hugged her tightly. No words could describe the warm feeling that Knuckles has in his heart right now as he hugged Kathy in the middle of the meadows. But let's just say...it's the most fantastic feeling in the world.
...No amount of treasure could ever be more precious than Kathy. She is like pure gold. They say that man's greatest treasure is gold...And I have my gold right here in my arms...I'll never let anyone take my gold away from me...She's my treasure and no one else's...No one's...Knuckles pondered calmly yet fondly with a warm smile as he stared at Kathy.
"...Kathy?" Knuckles muttered softly with a warm look on his face.
"...Yes, Knuckles?" Kathy asked calmly with a gentle smile as she had her eyes closed.
Knuckles kept staring at Kathy fondly with a warm smile before he closed his eyes as he replied softly, "...Let's...Let's just...keep hugging like this for a while...Okay?".
"...Okay," Kathy replied softly with a warm smile as she held onto Knuckles much tighter. She and Knuckles hugged each other for a long time with warm smiles on their faces while having their eyes closed. This long, wonderful moment of peace and silence is certainly one worth remembering for.
Especially since...they feel complete.
Well, part 3 is done and the adventure is just starting! *Just to let you know, Emerald Meadows is a name that I had come up with. Also, I'm going to say this now that I won't cover every area in Sonic's world. I mean. There are too many zones in that world, and I don't want to make this episode extra long because of that.
