Tom pulled everyone into the library as he started to pace. What he saw in Aries mind had been troubling. Not only the memory of James. He had gone back in to the man's mind and found everything he had done to his son. The ill brewed inhancement potions were only part of the issue. With the man's mind being so muddled… he couldn't make out what potions the man had been attempting to make. Even with putting the memories in a pensive… Severus might not even be able to rectify the mistakes.
But the other issue was James Potter. The man had been alive when that memory had taken place. Only a few cells away from Sirius. Yet the Animagus had never noticed his friend there. The man may not even be alive any longer. He had also known that Harry was Ophiuchus and had been protective of him. Had that been why he was locked away. Even in his own muddled memories of that Halloween night, Tom hadn't seen him as a threat. He had stunned the man.
"Tom?" Regulus asked nervously. Tom turned to his husband to see the worry in his eyes. He then looked around at the people he had quickly claimed as family. And of course to his beautiful son. It was a bit unnerving to see how much he did look like James. He had to remind himself that the Potters had married into both his and Regulus's family at one point. It wouldn't be the first time pureblood children carried characteristics of other families. They were all related down the line somewhere.
Tom stopped his pacing and sighed heavily. "I do not believe that Aries's mind slipped on its own. It seemed as if some one had been using him as a pawn. Letting him clean up their messes under false instructions from myself."
Marcus tensed at this. But Tom couldn't allow to give the poor boy false hopes of saving his father. "His mind finally snapped at the death of his wife. With the mind altering potions and spells he had on him… He should not have been able to function when everything wore off. I'm sorry Marcus… but we can't help him."
Marcus shook his head. "It's ok Tom… I knew… I was there when his mind snapped. I was too young to do anything… and by Hogwarts… I had an escape."
Harry instantly moved away from his father and uncle to sit next to the older boy. He turn hid emerald eyes on his father and Tom's breath hitched. They were all in danger if the boy already inherited Regulus's icy glare. All the Blacks had a crazed look in their eye when angered. But with the eyes being green instead… it seemed to chill the bones of even a dark Lord.
"I wasn't able to make out what potions he had fed you Marcus… but I will pass the memories on to Severus." Tom said as his son nodded his thanks.
"I will do what I can." Severus said as he stood behind Marcus and patted his shoulder.
"The next thing I wanted to discuss… is James Potter." Tom said as he watched multiple people tense at the name. "From what I saw in one of Aries's memories… James knew who Harry was… and I believe he was trying to protect him. I have gone over my own memory of that Halloween night. James never raised his wand. I stunned him because he was no threat. But I don't understand… I checked the baby… he wasn't Harry."
"Halloween… Merlin… the baby had been Ron." Charlie said as his face paled. "Bill, you remember that night. Please tell me you remember. The twins kept waking Ron. Then one night… You went to put them to bed… and I checked Ron… but Ron's hair seemed too dark. When I asked you… mom came in and screamed at us."
Bill seemed to be turning green at the memory. "We always took care of them at night. Especially the twins. We took the twins to our room and we stopped taking care of Ron after that. She kept him in her room… till Halloween…"
"Halloween… when we were all woken by Dumbledore. Something had angered him… we thought we saw him take Ron…" Charlie leaned forwards in his seat and shook his head. "In the morning… Ron was there. Sitting on the floor… playing with a teddy bear. And mom tried to force us to take care of him again."
"She has even admitted it." Fred nearly growled.
"Mom said he had been such a happy and healthy baby…" George looked to be as green as Bill. "She told the two of you that she had never met him till that day on the platform."
"She had handed Ron over to be slaughtered." Bill did growl that time and his brothers seemed to shutter.
"Can someone else's memory be placed into someone else's mind as their own?" Harry asked as he looked over at Remus. The werewolf's eyes flashed amber.
"The memory you see when the dementors get too close." Remus said as he fought to wheel in his inner wolf. "That could explain his deep hatred for the Dark. He may not have the memory any longer, but the mind can still remember the terror."
"Wait… so you are saying that Molly and Arthur handed over their son knowing he could die." Narcissa spat out. "What was the plan… to raise Harry as Ron?"
Bill shook his head. "We would have noticed eventually. Even if they had glamored him… Harry cried a lot. The only time he calmed was when Charlie or I had him. The twins could make him smile. Ron only cried when he was hungry and them would stop once he was fed."
"That would explain why the Bond claimed the four of you as family." Regulus said. "He had already bonded to you. But Tom… what does James have to do with this?"
"Sirius… did you talk to any of the prisoners around you in Azkaban?" Tom asked and Sirius paled.
"Not usually. I was in my animagus form most of the time." Sirius said then shook his head. "No… that's not right… Barty… he told me he was getting out… the Lestrange brothers… I convinced them to transform into their animagus forms when I could tell their minds were close to breaking… and Bella. I'd tell her to stop cackling. That we didn't need to hear her crazy. We already knew she was without proof. There were a couple others… but they didn't last long… Rudolphus swore there was another animagus down farther. He said he could smell it."
Tom pinched the bridge of his nose and sighed. "When was the last time you heard him mention the other animagus?"
"A week before I left." Sirius said with a shake of his head. "He said whoever was down there seemed angry. And there was the sound of something large hitting the bars."
"You think James is in Azkaban?" Harry said in alarm. This caused everyone to turn towards Tom.
"I know he is. Aries went there to take care of him. But when the memory ended, James was still alive. He was in his animagus form… a stag."
"Oh Merlin… he was just feet away the whole time." Sirius cried out. Remus quickly held on to him.
"I believe he had played Severus like we had originally predicted. He called me Tom instead of Voldimort or you know who. He seemed to know me as well as all of you do. He threatened Aries with someone. I don't know who… but he believed this man was more of a threat than myself."
Harry snorted and when his father looked up at him, Harry pointedly looked at his other father. "You even run from Dad when he is angry."
"We need to get him out of there." Sirius said as he pleaded with his eyes. "We can't let him die in there."
Tom shook his head. "That is why I called everyone here. I wasn't going to release my followers so soon. I wanted to get control of the dementors first. I need to know their mental state. But our new priority is getting James out. We will make it look as if we went for my followers, and James was caught in the cross fire. We don't need the wrong people to find out we got him out."
"I would leave Bellatrix." Regulus growled. "If I have to watch her fawn over you again I might end up killing her myself."
Tom smiled knowingly at Regulus and sent him a subtle wink. He was well aware of how much Regulus and Bellatrix had not gotten along. She had tried to get in his bed on multiple occasions before and after he had married Regulus. Seeing that rage and possessiveness that had come from his young husband was intriguing. It was one reason he never put a permanent stop to her behavior.
"I swear Tom… if you let that crazy bitch out…" Regulus growled but Harry interrupted.
"But won't it look suspicious if we leave her? I mean I haven't heard much about her. But the one thing I was told was that she was the most loyal." Harry said as he looked back and forth between his parents. "I don't really think we could pull it off if the most loyal ones are left. Even if they are batshit crazy. It will also set people on edge. People will start to panic. Start asking questions. And we can easily slip in answers. Answers that can start to crumble Dumblefuck's reputation and power."
The room went silent as Tom smiled proudly over at his son. Regulus sighed and pinched the bridge of his nose. "Oh great… I birthed a miniature Tom. You two evil geniuses will make your little doom room in a completely different house. I am very proud of both of you. But I put my foot down on world domination talk at the dining room table."
Harry snickered and smiled widely at his other father. "I have a feeling you've heard that speech before."
Tom smirked back then turned back to the others in the room. "I am not going to ask any of you to join in this escape. If you volunteer… I won't stop you."
"What are your plans for the wizarding world?" Marcus asked as he sat back next to Harry. He could feel Severus's hand still on his shoulder. "I am only asking because all my information came from my father. And honestly I haven't believed a word that man has said in years. But I have a feeling that the noise at the World Cup was you."
Tom nodded and noticed that Marcus wasn't the only one curious. He had almost forgotten that most of his new family hadn't been with them for long. And most of their opinions of him had come from Dumbledore. "First off, I will admit I am not a good man. I am the Dark Lord for a reason. I dislike muggles. That has always been true. But not for the reasons that have been told to the Light. I grew up in a muggle orphanage… during a war. I witnessed first hand what the muggles are capable. I have seen their weapons. I have seen what they can do to things they don't understand or that scares them. Do I want to kill them all… depends on the day… do I believe that is a wise choice… no. They would overpower us in days if we attacked. We would not survive. I also do not believe in the pureblood hierarchy. I'm a half blood myself. We need more security when if comes to muggles. For one, how many muggleborn children have almost exposed our world because of their accidental magic. We need to be able to get to those children way before Hogwarts and educate their families on what to expect. Teach them how to communicate in times of emergency or if they have questions. And also take the child away if the parents are not suitable. I know of three of us sitting in this room who have been mistreated by muggles. The two obscurials I know of… were mistreated by muggles. They fear and mistreat what they do not know."
"What about dark magic?" Sirius asked.
"I have found that most magic that has been classified as dark… where done so because it frightened muggleborns. They found it scary and devil worship, which caused them to shun our world." Tom said as he started to walk around the room with his hands behind his back. Harry smiled as he realized his dad had gone into a teacher mode. "This causing more exposure into the muggle world. So the Ministry classified some magic as dark to keep the muggleborns satisfied enough to stay in our world. Now is there some magic that is dark. Yes. Certain magic should not be practiced. But we should not be shunning magic to please a group that does not understand. That is why we need to educate them younger. Explain the differences. Also dark magic should not be practiced by everyone. Just like most of you in this room, your magical core would not be able to handle using dark magic. But some of you would flourish. Sirius, your parents were a very good example of who should not have been practicing."
"Magical creatures?" Remus asked sheepishly. Tom smiled at him.
"We have had more attacks since the laws have become harsher." Tom said sadly. "With the laws we have in place now, we have forced magical creatures into poverty. if you look at the statistics of our wizarding world 89% of the magicals in the poverty line are those with creature blood. Also most attacks have been caused by the stupidity of the victims. Or… in a few rare cases… to save the life of a loved one. Vampirism, lycanthropy and a couple others can cure some one from life threatening ailments. But even then… those should not be considered unless the person completely understands what the change will mean."
"Lycanthropy is not a curse if it is understood and accepted." Narcissa spoke up when she saw that Remus was about to speak again. "A wolf who has completely accepted things can control their actions. They poison themselves with wolfsbane or come to fear themselves because of what will happen if they attack someone. A fully healthy wolf that accepts their change… looks like any other wild wolf. It would be no different than having Sirius running around in dog form."
Remus gulped and nodded. "I did not mean to make it seem like I was going to offend. I can smell him… I could the moment I stepped onto the property. Not in the house… but he seems to be circling the wards. My presence here seemed to have set him into protection mode. I wasn't sure why, till you spoke up… I would like to talk to him if he is agreeable. Moony seemed to have shielded memories that he found important. They have been slowly coming back to me… one of them being how and why he changed me. I want to let him know I am no threat."
Narcissa threw her hands up once Remus was done talking and started to head for the door. Muttering something about overprotective wolves and sleeping on the floor.
Lucius chuckled. "As you can see… We have a reason for wanting to separate. Fenrir had chosen her as his mate in our last year at Hogwarts. It is one reason why the Blacks refused to break our contract. He agreed that he could wait as long as we allowed him a bit of forest to hunt on and allowed him entry during full moons to sleep by the fire."
"I used to sleep on him in his wolf form as a child. He used to play with me. Mother had to come in and scold him for keeping me up so late." Draco said with a fond smile. He then looked over at Remus. "He was actually very gentle during full moons. And his wolf magic can be healing to those he claims as pack. Thats why they puppy pile. Their wolf magic works to strengthen their weak members."
Sirius smirks. "See, I told you. We felt your magic on full moon nights. It was calming and we always felt so well rested in the morning."
"Uncle Fenrir is probably more worried that you are injured rather than thinking you are here to harm." Draco said with a knowing smirk. "I bet you that he will come in here like a mother hen and check you over before before he even asks why you are here. I'll even bet money that he calls you cub at least four times before you even utter a word."
Tom chuckled and shook his head fondly. "Remus… you will find that Fenrir has always considered you part of his pack. You have nothing to fear when it comes to him."
Draco and Regulus snorted. "Except for coddling."
"FENRIR GUY GREYBACK! IF YOU DO NOT STOP THIS AT ONCE, I WILL STUN YOU AND BAN YOU FROM THIS HOUSE!" Narcissa's voice called out as the quiet group heard the frantic footsteps of some one closing in on the library. The doors swung open with a loud thunk as a spell shot threw the door. The large man standing in the threshold, easily ducked the spell and made a beeline for the other shocked werewolf.
The man easily towered over Remus as he leaned in and started to sniff for injuries. He placed his large hands on Remus's shoulders as he easily picked him up and placed him on his feet. He circled the smaller man. Lifting and tugging at his clothes till he seemed satisfied and came to a stop to face his missing pack member.
"Cub, you look horrible. Are you eating correctly? Are the moons giving you issues. Of course they are… ignore that Cub. I'm just worried." The man's eyes glanced over to Sirius and smiled widely. "Cub, you have yourself a mate already! And such a strong pup he is. But that's not why I am here. Why are you here? Are you in trouble? If that crinkly old bastard has harmed you, I will tear him to shreds."
Draco was sitting on the edge of his seat holding up three fingers and eagerly waiting for the fourth Cub to be spoken. Remus opened him mouth to speak but soon found himself engulfed by two large arms and his face squished into a hard chest.
"I have been so worried cub." Fenrir said as he petted Remus's hair. Draco cheered from his spot which seemed to have snapped Fenrir out of his coddling and he released Remus. He turned and smiled at Draco.
"Draco! Cub, you have grown in a month. And who is this." Fenrir had spotted Harry and he sniffed at the air. His eyes widened in shock as he turned his attention towards one of his oldest friends. "Ophiuchus. You found him."
Tom smiled "That we have. You have a lot to catch up on. Sorry that I kept you out. I didn't think any of them were ready to meet you. Especially not your frightened little cub."
That sent Fenrir into a second of panic as he turned around and spotted Remus once more. He walked up to him and sat down next to Sirius, bringing Remus down to squeeze uncomfortably between them
"Sorry about that. It's my alpha side. I get a bit worked up about the safety of my pack." Fenrir said with an unapologetic shrug. "Especially you."
Remus seemed to pale. "Why?"
Fenrir smiled brightly down at the man. "Because I had marked you as my heir the night I bit you. Did you never wonder why your bite mark never faded? I didn't mean to honestly. I was still considered young back them. You were my first consensual change. You must have made a pack with your friends. I was worried you would become unstable. I'm glad to see that you are mostly well. I'll get you into tip top shape in no time."
Remus looked up at the man in a mixture of horror and shock. The rest of the library occupants smiled. Their crazy family had just adopted one more.
AN: I was going to wait to introduce Fenrir till way later and he wasn't going to have have a big impact on the story. But I had this hilarious scene in my head of an overprotective mother hen Fenrir and I just couldn't let it go. So here we are. I hope you enjoy.
