Note: For the most part, I think I've cleared the parts for the six uninjured Heroes. The only one who's left is Bairei (Bert). Let's see what the alternate version of our favorite peanut butter-loving raccoon is up to. Before we move on, I have something to say to three reviewers.

hechtmanelijah06: Well, the story is T rated, so I decided not to do anything too extreme for Shiobana's death. If I made his blood mucus green, then it would be too weird. Do you think that it would be weird?

The White Wolf named Alex: Thanks for the review. I hope that you're ready for this.

Ron: He just needs to get used to the smell of death. Even the strongest of people need to get used to some of the most unpleasant smells in the world. Stay tuned for what happens next.

Now that I've done that, it's time for chapter sixteen.

Chapter 16: Hospital Invasion

A trio of ninjas were walking through the hallways of the Evergreen Forest Hospital. They had been told to look for the room that one of the Seven Heroes, Bairei Tanuki, was staying in. In addition to that, the trio were given the permission to kill anyone who got in their way. Whether the person attacked them or not, it didn't matter. Each of them had the right weapons for the job, having daggers and shuriken. No matter what happened, they would carry out their mission.

Once they were on the third floor of the hospital, the trio felt as if they were getting closer to Bairei's room. In order to make sure, the lead ninja told his comrades to check each room they came across. For each one, they read the number on the door. After doing so, the ninjas found themselves reaching the end of the hallway. That was when they came up to a door that was halfway open. Getting their weapons out, the trio was ready to carry out their mission.

Kicking the door open, the ninjas stepped into the room. Much to their surprise, the inside of the room was pitch black. Along with that, by looking at the bed, the trio saw that there was no one in it. They looked around the room, but saw no sign of Bairei. It seemed like he was gone, but something told them that he wasn't. All three of them kept their guard up, but they were somewhat dumbfounded.

"What's going on?" One of the ninjas asked. "Could we be in the wrong room?"

"No, we're in the right room!" Another ninja asked.

"Then why isn't he here?" The first ninja asked. "Was he released early?"

"I don't know, but keep your guard up!" The third ninja said. "He could be anywhere in the room!"

Without warning, there was a loud bang in the room. It sounded as if someone had forced a closet open. This noise startled the ninja trio, to the point where they dropped their weapons. Picking them up, the three left themselves open for an attack. Something was approaching them with a bladed weapon. That something actually happened to be a raccoon with a gold-bladed katana.

The leader of the trio felt something alive his arm, causing him to let shout in pain. In alarm, the trio ran at whoever was attacking him, eager to take them down. However, they were all knocked down with a sweep kick. Their attacker then took the opportunity to finish them off with his weapon. Once they were dead, he staggered out of the room, being in pain. Despite the pain he was under, he was able to take down his would be killers.

Now that he was out of his hospital room, Bairei tried to sheathe his katana. Pain surging through his body, he let out a moan, but muffled it. The ninja trio weren't the only ones after the raccoon, as the screams and destruction he heard had proven. He wasn't alone, and those who were invading the hospital weren't leaving until he was dead. The Serpent Gang's ninjas weren't afraid to strike down on an injured adversary, even when they surrender. With that in mind, Bairei knew that he couldn't let them win.

Staggering to the elevator, Bairei pressed a button. From what he could tell, most of the screams were coming from the first floor, having overheard them from the vents. As he waited for the elevator to get there, the raccoon had a feeling of unease. Something bad was going to happen, and he knew that he would be stuck. No matter how hard he fought, he knew that he couldn't just use his katana and martial arts training. If anything, Bairei would have to use anything that was available.

All of a sudden, the elevator came open, despite landing on the second floor. Standing in the doorway was a ninja wielding a blackjack. Knowing that he had to defend himself, Bairei swung his katana. The ninja fell to the raccoon's feet, dead. Stepping over the fallen foe, he staggered out of the elevator. Once he got out, the procyonidae could hear more of the chaos that was unfolding.

Now that he was on the second floor, Bairei moved through it, holding his katana out. He was also carrying the blackjack from the ninja he had just killed. With another weapon, the raccoon knew that he would need to use both at any given moment. The Serpent Gang undoubtedly sent enough ninjas to fill the hospital, so it would be a difficult challenge. The procyonidae kept on moving, noticing how no one had come out to challenge him. It seemed that the ninja that attacked him was the only one.

Without warning, a few ninjas jumped out of different hospital rooms, holding weapons. Upon seeing that, Bairei knew that he had to take them down. Before any of them could attack, the raccoon swung his katana. This only managed to slice the throat of one and cut the arm of another. In response, the remaining ninjas surrounded the procyonidae, eager to kill him. He braced himself, knowing that he was still disadvantaged.

One of the ninjas ran at Bairei, ready to stab him. Reacting quickly, the raccoon swiped his weapon and attacked with his katana, mortally wounding his enemy. The procyonidae then used the blackjack to strike two more in the head. He occasionally swapped weapons for each attack, using his katana to land mortal hits. This continued until all of the ninjas are dead. One by one they fell, blood draining out of their bodies.

After that, Bairei walked on over to the elevator. Pressing the button, he waited, hoping that there were no ninjas waiting inside. The door opened up, revealing the car to be empty. Despite that, Bairei was cautious, still having his katana and the blackjack out. Stepping inside the elevator, the raccoon pressed the button that led to the first floor. He then waited for it to open again, knowing that he had a bigger battle waiting for him.

Okay, the rest have got to be on the first floor! Bairei thought to himself. If that's so, I hope that I'm not too late! Also, I hope that the only crooks I have to fight are the usual ninja!

Upon seeing the elevator open up, Bairei looked out so that he could see what was awaiting him. Ninjas were everywhere, to the point where it seemed that no one was around. Some were even hiding, waiting to ambush anyone who came near. They all had their weapons out, keeping a tight grip on them. It almost felt like a scene from a movie where a criminal is surrounded by armed cops.

Stepping out of the elevator, Bairei got a better look at his surroundings. This didn't go unnoticed by a few ninjas, who ran towards him. Acting quick, the raccoon disarmed one. Before he could strike again, the procyonidae was stopped by a ninja wielding nunchaku. Breaking loose, he swung his katana and swiped his enemy's weapon. The nunchaku hit another ninja in the face, knocking him down.

Swinging his katana again, Bairei decapitated the ninja who wield the nunchaku. Moving on, he killed another with a single slash. Upon seeing their allies being killed, a few more of the shadowy criminals ran towards the raccoon, eager to kill him with their weapons. Knowing that he couldn't lower his guard, the procyonidae swung the weapons he had on hand. He risked his broken arm by doing so, despite the massive amount of pain that he still felt.

One by one, the ninjas fell to the floor, dead. With that out of the way, Bairei was just about ready to leave the hospital. He figured that, when he got back to his teammates, he would tell them about what went down. Even if he was still unable to go on any missions at the moment, the raccoon would've been happy to see Bentley again. After all, the boy was the new recruit. The team might've even been training him while Bairei was in the hospital.

Before Bairei could reach the door, he heard footsteps in the distance. The footsteps practically echoed throughout the first floor, being loud enough to do so. Bairei froze when he heard them, but he kept his weapons out. Whoever was approaching the raccoon was walking slowly, as if to increase intimidation. Looking around, the procyonidae didn't see a silhouette of any kind. It seemed like the person was good at hiding themselves from view.

"You amaze me, my friend!" A voice called out. "The Serpent Gang sent all of these ninjas out, yet you managed to make mincemeat out of them! It seems like the injuries you have won't keep you from being a warrior!"

"I don't need your flattery!" Bairei shouted. "Show yourself, whoever you are!"

Hearing the footsteps get closer, Bairei turned around and gasped. The person who had been addressing him turned out to be a fox vixen. She was taller than he was, with his head coming up to her elbows. The vixen didn't have any weapons, but she was dressed in a cloak with pieces of armor on certain areas on her body. Bairei kept his guard up, knowing that this would be a deadly fight. However, the raccoon was fearing what would happen next.

"Surprised?" The vixen asked.

"You're a magician!" Bairei cried.

"That's right," she said, "and I was the one in-command of the ninjas you have slaughtered. Now that we're in the same area, our battle can begin!"

The Fox Magician threw a few fireballs at Bairei, intent on burning him alive. Acting quickly, the raccoon blocked them with his katana. He tried to run away from his enemy, but fell over. This gave the vixen the opportunity to approach him. She had a fireball formed in her hand, and she was ready to use it. It seemed like Bairei would lose the battle.

Firing her magic, the Fox Magician hoped that it would kill Bairei. However, the raccoon swung the blackjack, knocking the fireball to the side. He slashed the vixen in the arm with his katana, hoping that it would prevent her from using it. It turned out to be a bad idea, as she used magic lightning on the procyonid, electrocuting him. He screamed in pain as this happened, trying to resist the bolts surging into him. As that happened, the Fox Magician kicked Bairei to the side.

Bairei was thrown to another part of the room, colliding with a wall. The raccoon screamed in pain, his wounds having been struck. All of the magic lightning he had attacked with had gone away, but he was still in pain. The Fox Magician walked over to him, a spell forming in her hands. She stood above Bairei, eager to attack him. A groan came out of the procyonid, meaning that he was unable to attack or get up.

"I must say, this was a disappointing battle." The Fox Magician said. "But, I feel relieved, knowing that I can kill you. Goodbye, Bairei Tanuki!"

She threw her magic onto Bairei, causing him to scream. The raccoon had expected to be burned to death, or fried to a crisp, but that didn't happen. Pain surged through his body, but something was different. The procyonid could feel some of his wounds fade, as if they were only psychosomatic. Once the magic subsided, he no longer felt the pain he had prior. In fact, he felt refreshed, almost like he had just gotten over a disease.

"What?!" The Fox Magician shouted. "What is this madness!?"

"I think that you just healed my wounds." Bairei said.

Before the vixen could do anything, Bairei swung his katana. This decapitated the vulpine, with her head slowly sliding off her body. Once she was dead, Bairei took the cast off of his arm, knowing that it had been healed. After that, the raccoon got out of the Evergreen Forest Hospital, eager to reunite with his teammates. The procyonid ran down the road, wanting to be as fast as possible. While doing so, he couldn't help but feel excited.

The Serpent Gang is using magicians?! Bairei thought to himself. We haven't fought magicians in a long time! This is so cool! I can't wait to tell the others about this!

Note: I felt that it was about time for me to introduce a new type of enemy in the story. Using ninjas kind of gets monotonous after a while, so I added magicians. What do you think? Was that a good idea? Until next time, guys, this is Newcomer24, signing off. Peace!
