A deafening silence filled the house after Penny's outburst
"What's that supposed to mean?" Callie asked in a quiet voice but sternly.
"Nothing… you know what Callie… just forget it…" Penny replied shrugging her shoulder in frustration.
"No... no... you said that which certainly means something… Tell me what you are talking about" Callie insisted on "You think it was my mistake when George cheated on me… or was it my mistake when Arizona cheated on me...or… or …or Erica Left me… huh… Was it?"
Penny didn't respond immediately, she kept staring at the wall behind Callie. Frustration and anger were clear, as she was breathing heavily and clenching her jaw as if to control herself from doing something she didn't want.
"Don't just stand there… answer me, Penelope Blake… was it?" Callie was fuming with irritation towards the red head's silence
After few more seconds of the internal duel, Penny shifted her gaze at Callie and said calmly "I don't care, Callie, I don't care George cheated on you… even though you decided to marry him just after his father's death… knowing very well that he didn't even say "I love you" before that… but yes it wasn't your fault that George cheated on you… it wasn't your fault that Erica left you… and I get it… you are a victim of infidelity from your wife…but tell me, Callie… you really think you didn't do anything wrong?"
"Yes, I really think I didn't do anything wrong" Callie replied at once
Penny chuckled sarcastically "Okay then, glad you have such high opinion about yourself… be happy"
Penny turned around to leave to the bedroom but stopped at Callie's voice "If you have a point then make it… or else lose this smug look on your face… just because you have nothing to say, don't behave like you are holding yourself from saying anything… as if you care what I think or feel"
Hearing that Penny lost all control she had on herself. She spun around at once and looked Callie directly in the eyes "You really wanna know what I think Callie?"
Callie shrugged her shoulder smugly "let's have it"
Penny shook her head a little and started talking with a light sarcastic smile "let's talk about the custody battle, shall we?"
"What about that? Sofia is my child and Arizona dragged us to the court for her custody… to the court… what was I supposed to do… let her take Sofia… she is MY CHILD; I GAVE BIRTH TO HER" Callie yelled
"Oh, you made that very clear, especially to Dr Robbins," Penny said Calmly
"wha… I…"
Penny interrupted "It was clear when your lawyer told everyone that YOU are Sofia's real mother and not Arizona…"
"I never said that… the lawyer…" Callie tried to explain
"Did she make that statement without your consent? Was that part not discussed with you beforehand? Or you ACTUALLY believed that it was true… coz YOU are her biological mother… aren't you Callie… that's why you let your lawyer humiliate Arizona in front of your colleagues and friends" Penny's voice remained calm but her words felt like venom to Callie.
"I had no choice… I had too… Ariz…" Callie tried again to explain
"You think that Dr Robbins Lawyer didn't ask her to play dirty?" penny questioned with raised eyebrows looking directly into Callie as if daring her to counter this argument. "You refused to come with me when the court granted full custody of Sofia to Arizona because you couldn't leave you, daughter… but it was okay for you to take her away from Arizona… Why? … Sofia could have stayed with her and you could have visited her on weekends like you suggested what Arizona should do earlier…"
Penny's words were hitting Callie like slaps. She didn't have anything to say, she just sat there listening to Penny.
"I testified because I wanted you to be happy… but even I knew that what you were doing was wrong…"
After sometimes Callie gathered her wounded pride and tried to fight again "Why are you even talking about her? … you don't even like her… It's us, we are talking about… what I have ever done to you?
"Okay… you are right… let's talk about us… where should I start…" Penny said mocking Callie "we have been together Callie for almost 2 years now, but our relationship is still at the same stage as it was when we started… it's been 2 years and you have not even introduced me to your father… I have no right to say anything to Sofia… hell, I am not even on her guardian list… Every time I go to pick her up from the school, they call you to confirm, how do think it makes me feel?" penny said furiously "I said I love you in Seattle… you said … "Thank you" … freaking! Thank you" penny continued
Callie opened her mouth to counter but got interrupted by Penny again "I know you explained yourself… but you never said I love you too... you said "you are on the same page as you" Penny scoffed "No matter how hard I try to negate it… but we are stuck, Callie… I love you Callie... but... you..."
"But I love you too" Callie countered
"I know you love me, Callie… but you are not in love with me" Penny said with a sad smile.
Even though Penny knew the truth, she still hoped that Callie with contradict her and confess her love, but nothing came from Callie, so she continued "I can't do this anymore Callie"
Callie's head shot up upon hearing that "What do you mean, you can't do this anymore? What… you want to end this? … us?"
Penny didn't say anything, but her silence was an explanation enough. Callie's heart was beating profoundly against her chest "Not again, not another failed relation" Callie thought.
"We can work on it … I can work on it… just don't give up on us" Callie pleaded.
"There is no us Callie… You have changed, you are not the same person I met in Seattle… you are not the same person I fell in love with… In New York you are different, you are less happy and less communicative here… the only time when I see you happy and remarkably vocal is when Arizona comes to visit… then… I see the old Callie… I am not implying anything here… it is just what it is… I have tried … I have been trying for a long time now… but now… this relationship…It's suffocating me … it's killing me …" Penny said, as tears rolled down her face and after taking a few deep breaths she finally said "we are over… Callie" and she went to the guest room without leaving room for any further discussion.
Callie was left alone and stunned in the living room. She didn't move or said anything, there were no tears, no anger, nothing on her face as if her mind couldn't comprehend with what just happened.
Gradually, she dragged her feet towards her room into the bathroom. She stood underneath the shower, with all her clothes still on. As the cold water poured down on her body, only one voice; her own voice, rang in her head.
"Constantly trying to fix us is the thing that's been killing me slowly …and I don't wanna do it anymore… I don't wanna fix it or fix us anymore"

When Callie woke up the next morning, it took her a moment to remember why she felt so miserable. Then the memory of the previous night rolled over her. She got up and came out of the room, intending to talk to Penny- only to find a packed bag sitting near the main door and dressed up Penny Near the kitchen counter.
"Hey," Penny said meekly avoiding eye contact.
"What's with the bag?" Callie enquired
"I was waiting for you to get up… um… I'll be staying at Stacy's till I find an accommodation for myself… I will come later to collect my other belongings… um… so…" Penny said hesitantly still avoiding eye contact with Callie.
"Penny… please" Callie pleaded
Penny drew a deep breath and moved towards the main door "Don't make it harder than its already is Callie… please"
"I left Seattle for you… I put my daughter to hell to be with you… left my friends and my job… for you and you are leaving…?" Callie sounded exhausted and visibly hurt
Penny picked up her bag and opened the door but before going out she turns around and finally looked in Callie's eyes "You didn't leave Seattle for me… I know that for sure… but the question is… do YOU know that? … and I think, deep down you do know… take care Callie"
With that penny left the house, leaving Callie alone and despondent with only one question and no answer

It's been 2 weeks since Penny broke up with Callie. She came to the house after 2 days and packed the rest of her stuff, that too when Callie was at work. They didn't talk or crossed path since then.
Callie decided not to tell about their breakup to anyone yet, not even to Meredith, especially not Sofia and Arizona. It was Friday night and for the first time in her life, she was dreading the weekend. After their breakup, Callie indulged herself into work. If she was not in surgery, she was covering the pit or would go to the lab for research. She has been to her house only to get a change of clothes, she was eating, sleeping and staying in the hospital. Today, the chief has informed her that she was way over her required hours for the week and instructed her to go home and not to show her face till Monday.
She groaned in frustration as she opened the wine and filled her glass up to the rim. The silence in the house was daunting, so, she switched on the TV just for some noise.
As she sat on the couch and sipped her wine, her iPad rang form the centre table insinuating the facetime call from Arizona. Thinking that it's Sofia calling, she picked up the call but saw Arizona's smiling face on the other side.
"Hey," Callie said to Arizona
"Caalllliiiiooorrrrrpppeeee…." Arizona said with a goofy smile, dimples on full display "Wait, there is no R in calliopeee, is there...?"
"Are you high? …" Callie said with a shock and amusement
Arizona didn't seem to hear what Callie said and continued her babbling "Caaalliiooppeee… yeah that's correct C-A-L-L-L-L-I-O-PEEEEE" misspelling her name
"Arizona!" Callie said little loudly
Sound of her name finally got Arizona attention and she looked at the screen "Callie? What are you doing here?"
"What? Arizona? You called me… and you are high… wait where is Sofia?" Callie asked now a little concerned
"at mer'sssss… she took her" Arizona replied and added the last part in a whisper "Because I Am High"
Callie chuckled a little "I can see That… but why are you high? What did you do?"
"I ate… Gasbian latitude lookie… baked with Marijuana" Arizona mumbled
"Huh?" Callie asked with a look of complete confusion
"Lesbian… Lratitude… lookie …." Arizona replied emphasising each word
"Lesbian Gratitude Cookie?" Callie tried to make sense "What's in the Gods name is that?"
"My patient gave it to me by mistake and I distributed it in the hops-pital" Arizona said giggling
"Oh god! Is everything and everyone okay" Callie's eyes were wide with the shock.
"Yup, they locked us in the rrrrooomm"
"Thank God…" Callie took a breath of relief "Sweetie, you need to sleep now… okay"
Arizona didn't say anything for a few seconds and kept looking at Callie.
"Ari..." but before Callie could say anything, she was interrupted by Arizona's loud voice
"You left!"
Callie was taken aback but she didn't respond
"Everybody leaves me… you left… Elijah Ghosted me… you left, and you took Sofia… Tim died… you left" Arizona babbled with a pout
Callie felt a pang of sadness on hearing that "Arizona…" is all she could say.
"That's why I asked Carina to stay, I don't want her to go… because everyone leaves me" Arizona was now mumbling sadly on her own, very slowly and not particularly talking to anyone.
Callie had no idea what to say to console Arizona, after leaving for New York she never looked back, she never thought about the consequences of her decision. She thought, she was doing the right thing, but never realized that what was right for her was so wrong for the people in her life. She was now thinking about Seattle and her life there, regretting the decision of ever leaving that place and her friends, she was not focused on the rambling of Arizona until she heard "specializing in women orgasm" which brought her right back.
"What? What did you say?" Callie exclaimed
"Carina! She specializes in women orgasm… and indeed she is a specialist all right" Arizona said with a smirk.
Callie felt a sting of jealousy that ran through her body "You and Carina?" she asked slowly, not really wanting to hear the answer
"Yup… she is my girlfriend… and she can make me lose my mind in bed" Arizona said giggling and Callie had a disgusted look on her face until Arizona said "Just like you"
"Huh?" Callie asked quickly with a smile she couldn't control
"make me lose my MIND… Why are you not listening to me?" Arizona replied little loudly with a frown
Callie tried to make Arizona repeat what she said earlier but it was of no use anymore because now Arizona has moved on to talking something about doughnuts. Callie listened to Arizona's rambling for another 15 minutes, till she was looking at the ceiling of the room as Arizona has dropped the iPad when she dozed off. Chortling and shaking her head Callie disconnected the call. After many weeks she was feeling light and relaxed, but it was short-lived as the thought of Arizona's orgasm specialist girlfriend came to her mind.
"Why I am feeling like this? I should be happy that Arizona has someone with her. We got divorced 3 years back. She moved on and that's good… really really good… yes… I am happy for her…" Callie tried to convince herself, but the feeling of jealousy was evident on her face
"What does it even mean? …. Orgasm specialist…. Huh!" Callie scoffed mumbled something to herself, something that sounded like...

Hope you enjoyed this chapter… few more before our girls are back in the same city and the story of their reconciliation start.
As you know that the last part of this chapter where Arizona gets high is from Judgement day episode. So, we have a tentative idea of where we are in this story.
On another note: I know WE hate Penny, but I feel that we hate Penny as we hated Emily in "Friends" … I mean they both were right in their own place. Penny never did anything wrong; she didn't ask Callie to move, she didn't ask her to fight dirty in the custody battle, she just supported the woman she loved. We hate her because Callie moved away for her (which I don't believe she did actually). So, I tried not to make her villain here. Many of you might not agree with me, but I just expressed my opinion.
That's being said – I still hate penny?
