The next morning
Arizona woke up around 6 in the morning, it took her a few seconds to understand why she was feeling so relaxed. Naturally, she was relaxed as she just woke up but there was something else that was making her extremely comfortable and then she looked to her left and found the reason for her smile. A woman with black shiny hair was spread out on her stomach on the other side of the bed. The sheet was up to her waist and the caramel toned back was available for Arizona's ogling. The thought of last night's activities brought a smile and little blush to Arizona's face. It felt so amazing after connecting once again. To feel Callie's skin on hers, to touch and kiss her so intimately, to feel her not only on her body but in every fibre of her being.
She smiled brightly, took a long deep satisfactory breath, and turned to Callie's side. She lifted her hand and started caressing her spine so lightly that it does not wake Callie up. After a while, she shifted closer to her, spooned her from behind and drifted off to sleep once again.
…
When Callie woke up, she felt a weight on her waist and the warmth of a body spooning her from behind. She slowly turned herself to the other side and smiled at the sleeping face next to her. Arizona was in deep slumber, her eyes were moving behind the eyelids, indicating the dreams she might be having. Her lips were slightly open, and her hair was looking even golden in the sunlight peeking through the window. Callie stared at her for a while, she notices a crease of frown forming between Arizona's eyes because the fringe of golden hair was tickling her face; Callie removed the strand of hair and lightly smoothed that crease with her finger and placed a kiss on her forehead. Arizona stir a little but didn't wake up, so Callie got a little bold and planted a few more light kisses on Arizona, face and finally on those slightly open lips
Callie could stay there, like that forever, but her bladder had other plans. She tried to ignore it for a while but now it was getting unbearable and with a groan, she got up from the bed making sure that she didn't disturb the sleeping blond next to her.
After a quick freshening up, Callie tip tied out of the room to the kitchen to prepare the breakfast. She was dancing, singing her version of "like a virgin" while flipping the pancakes and didn't hear Arizona coming. She did a spin while singing "touched for the very first time" when her eyes landed on smiling Arizona looking at her from the living room. Callie jumped at least a foot in shock at the sight of Arizona which she was not expecting.
"Shit, you scared me," Callie said holding her chest over her heart.
"Sorry… but please don't stop at my accord… continue," Arizona said smiling brightly.
"I… was… just" Callie tried to say while blushing
"Mmhmm… and touched for the very first time?" Arizona said cocking one eyebrow up "I disagree" she added with a wink.
"Shut up," Callie said lightly still blushing and start pouring the batter on the pan
Arizona walked towards Callie and shyly wrapped her arm around her waist, planted a feather-like kiss on Callie's bare shoulder, and said "good morning" lovingly.
Callie smile brightly and gave a light peck on Arizona's lips "Good morning to you too".
She cut a small piece of pancake, dipped it in syrup and offered it to Arizona, who was still holding her from the back.
"Mmm," Arizona moaned, chewing the pancake "God this is amazing"
Callie laughed "why, to thank you doctor Robbins"
Arizona looked at the kitchen slab and saw a variety of food there. "Wow! Pancakes, fruits salad, smoothie… what gives?"
"Well after last night… I thought you could use some energy," Callie said, smiling at blushing Arizona. Callie turned to face Arizona, pulled her closer, and captured her lips with her own.
"Last night was…." Arizona said breaking the kiss "Incredible"
Callie smiled and placed another quick kiss "It was …. wasn't it?" On which Arizona nodded.
…
Just when they finished breakfast Sofia came back from their sleepover. It was Saturday so everybody had an off and Callie had promised Clyde to meet after a very angry call Clyde made stating that since Arizona has come to New York Callie has completely forgotten that he exists. After a lot of grovelling from Callie's side, He agreed to meet on Saturday for brunch. Callie invited Arizona to join but she refused for two reasons. First, she wanted to give Clyde and Callie their space and time with each other. Second, after a long week where she prepared for the surgery, she just wanted a day at home doing nothing. Even Sofia wanted to stay home and watch movies and Arizona was glad to do just that. Callie was a little jealous that she had to go for brunch instead of spending the day with her family, cuddling on the sofa and watching a movie. She pouted for full 30 minutes and after a lot of persuasion from Arizona, she reluctantly left for her house to get ready.
When Callie reached the brunch location, Clyde was already waiting there with a mimosa in his hand.
"Sorry, Sorry, I got a little late," Callie said sitting in front of Clyde
"Mmhmm!" Clyde replied snidely
"Oh, Common Cly, I came just for you… now I think you should forgive me" Callie whined.
"Depends how this goes," Clyde said waving his hand between him and Callie.
"Well, if you forgive me… I have Pre-TTY big news to share with you" Callie replied bouncing her eyebrows
Clyde was intrigued but he wasn't going to give in so easily "First, tell the news then we will decide if its big or not"
"Nuh-Ah! First, say you forgive me and that you love me and I'll tell you"
"Fine don't tell"
"Okay," Callie said with a shrug "but let me tell you… It's a BIIIGGG new"
They sat there in silence for a few minutes. They both gave each other sidelong glances, but none of them yielded. Looking at their antics no one can say that they are top class surgeons in their 40s because at this moment they were acting like 12 years old.
Clyde tried very hard not to give in but eventually, his curiosity got the best of him, and he conceded "FINE! tell me your big news" Clyde replied excitedly.
Callie laughed throwing her head back "I know you will surrender"
"Yeah Yeah… get to the gossip"
"Someone spent an amazing night at somebody's place" Callie replied unable to hide her grin.
"If that someone is not you and that somebody is not Arizona… I am not interested" Clyde said only half-joking
"It is me and Arizona!"
"Shut up… are you kidding me?" Clyde exclaimed loudly
"I kid you not" Callie smiled "Yesterday me and Arizona… mmm"
"Well done, Torres!" Clyde said raising his hand for hi-five which Callie gave enthusiastically.
"Tell me EVERYTHING"
The next few minutes Callie spent recounting last night, she obviously didn't give every detail, but she sure told Clyde that Arizona has confessed her love and they have sealed the deal. By the end of the story, Clyde was almost jumping on his seat.
"I have to say, Torres, I am proud of you," Clyde said afterwards
"Why thank you, Dr Goodwin," Callie said jokingly "but I must say I couldn't have done it without your vote of confidence"
"Well, you're welcome… and be assured that I will always be there to kick your ass if you try to screw this up again" Clyde replied, and Callie gasped in mock offence.
The rest of the time they both spend catching up with other things and doing some shopping. Callie bought a dress for Sofia and her eyes fell on a blouse which she thought would look good on Arizona, so she bought that too.
After spending an almost full day with Clyde, Callie went back home and dropped a message to Arizona informing her that she was back home. She wanted to talk to Arizona about telling Sofia, but she decided that it would be better to have this conversation face to face.
The next few weeks went busy as always, After the successful surgery that Arizona did at the end of September, her clinic got flooded with a patient with difficult cases, which meant that Arizona was spending every waking moment either doing surgery or preparing for one. Weekends were either with Callie or Both Sofia and Callie. Due to her busy schedule, Sofia was staying at Callie's place. Whenever they needed their "alone" time, they both would wait for Sofia to go to sleep, and Arizona would sneak out early in the morning before Sofia woke up. They were yet to decide when to tell Sofia, but it was high time now. They have been dating for months now and it was only logical to tell Sofia about their relationship status for all of their peace of mind. So, during one date night, Callie and Arizona decided to tell Sofia about their relationship. Even though they knew that there is nothing Sofia would rather want than for her parents to be together. Both women were still a little unsure about her reaction. One day after Family dinner at Callie's, they sat with Sofia and prepared themselves to talk to her.
"Sofia there's something your mama and I want to tell you," Callie said lovingly
"What is that Mami?" Sofia asked curiously
"Well, before we tell you anything, I want you to know that you can tell us however and whatever you are feeling about this… Alright?" Arizona said
"Ok… did I do something wrong?" Sofia asked innocently
"Oh, no baby girl… you did nothing wrong… it's just the news we are going to share with you is big and you might have some serious feelings about that, and we want you to be honest with us… Can you do that?" Arizona replied
"Okay!"
Arizona looked toward Callie and gestured for her to take the lead.
"Well, Sofia… how would you feel if Mama and I start dating again?" Callie asked nervously.
"Dating?" Sofia asked in confusion
"Yes, like two people who like each other do… go out and have dinner together … things like that?" Arizona chimed in
"Okay," Sofia replied nonchalantly
"Okay?... that's it?" Callie asked while Arizona stared at Sofia with wide eyes
"mmhmm" Sofia replied
"That's all you have to say?" Arizona asked on which Sofia just shrugged.
"Sweetie, if you have anything on your mind you can talk to us," Callie said
"Well… does it mean that you are going to get married now?" Sofia asked with excitement
Arizona and Callie looked at each other in shock, they were not prepared for this, they have discussed what they would do if Sofia disapproved, they were ready to handle her tantrum but not for this. It would be wrong to say that the thought of getting married again has not popped into Callie's mind, but she never voiced it for 2 reasons. First, she didn't know if Arizona even wants to get married. After their failed first marriage she was not sure if Arizona would want to. Second, even if they would get married it was in future, far… far in future. So, she was not going to talk about getting married now and they definitely didn't talk about that with each other.
"Well… No… I mean… not…." Callie struggled to find the proper explanation.
Seeing Callie struggling Arizona decided to take the charge "No Baby Girl, we are not getting married… Mami and I are girlfriends, and we sometimes like to have…Ummm…. Sleepovers" Arizona explained Calmly, much to Callie's relief.
"Yeah, and we wanted to ask you if you are okay with that" Callie finally spoke
"So, when you will have sleepovers… would I be there too?" Sofia asked
"Of course, baby"
"Would we watch the movies and have popcorn?" Sofia asked in innocent seriousness, on which both women laughed
"Yes, sweetie we will watch movies"
"Yeyi! Okay then… I have decided I like this dating thing" Sofia said firmly, again shocking her mothers.
"Thank you for your decision, Miss Sofia," Arizona said, shaking her head and laughing.
After their discussion, Sofia went to sleep and for the first time in their relationship, Arizona spent the night which was followed by breakfast with Callie and Sofia the next day.
The next few weeks went normally and before they knew it was November and it was time for Callie to leave for her Ted Conference in Miami. After tearful goodbye from Sofia and a passionate kiss from Arizona which as per her, would remind Callie that she has a Hot girlfriend waiting for her in New York and would prevent Callie from getting distracted by bikini-clad hot Miami women, Callie left for Airport. Callie couldn't help but feel incredibly lucky to have Arizona back in her life.
Callie reached Miami around 7 in the evening and after punching the code at the Main Gate of her father's mansion and crossing the long walkway, she rang the doorbell. It has been years since Callie visited her childhood home. It was always Carlos who would come and visit her and Sofia be it in Seattle or New York. Since the incident at Callie and Arizona's wedding, Callie was still struggling with her mother. Yes, they would talk sometimes over the phone and meet whenever she visited but it was always without Sofia. She simply refused to let her mother meet her daughter since Lucia rebuked her for having a child out of wedlock. She wasn't vengeful but until Lucia gives Sofia the respect and love she deserves; Callie wasn't going to let them meet.
She didn't want to stay with her parents during this visit but once she told Carlos about the TED conference, it became impossible to say no to her father. So here she was, standing at the gate of her childhood home, ringing the bell and for some reason feeling very nervous.
"señora Callie, es tan Bueno Verte (it's so good to see you)" Martina the housekeeper said upon opening the door.
"Ola, Martina, Como Estas" Callie replied to which Martina smiled and nodded.
Martina was their housekeeper for as long as Callie remembers. She was hired a few years before Callie left for Botswana. Callie liked Martina as she was friendly, kind and very loving. Many times, she vouched for Callie whenever Callie sneak out in the middle of the night for a party, or to meet her boyfriend. Martina has been with Torres's family ever since, even now when she was in her 50s, she still had the same kindness and love for Torres's kids.
"Come on in Senora your father is waiting for you," Martina said, welcoming Callie inside "He is in his study"
"Thank you, Martina" Callie walked through the huge lounge towards his father's study, looking around and reliving the moments she spent here. She knocked on the door before Peeking in. "Ola daddy," Callie said looking at Carlos, who was nose deep in a file.
"Mija!" Carlos exclaimed getting up from his seat and walking towards Callie, hugging her tightly. "Oh, I missed you so much mi hija"
"I missed you too, Daddy"
After the pleasantries Carlos took Callie out to the living room and where they catch up on their lives.
Callie didn't mention anything about Arizona and her relationship. Carlos only knew that Arizona is shifting to New York, but he had no idea about their relationship and Callie was in no mood of sharing this so early on in her visit.
"Where are Mami and Aria?" Callie Asked
"Oh, Aria has gone to Canada to check out some location our new office setup and your mother has gone for some lawyers association meet or something," Carlos said looking at his watch "She should have been back by now though" and as if on cue Lucia came to the living room all dressed up in her formal attire.
"Calliope! Estas Aqui! (You are here)" Lucia said extending her arms and hugging Callie. Callie reciprocated with the same amount of enthusiasm but there was still an awkwardness between the mother-daughter.
"How are you, Mami?" Callie asked
"Oh, I am getting old hija, but otherwise I am fine… How are you?"
"I am good too Mami" Callie replied. She noticed that her mother was comparatively much more cordial with her than before, but she didn't give much thought to it.
After dinner, Callie went to her room as she was tired after the long day of travelling. Upon reaching her room, she faces timed Arizona, which she picked at one ring.
"Hey,"
"Wow, seems like someone was waiting eagerly for my call" Callie teased
"Don't flatter yourself, Dr Torres, I was watching something on my phone and that's why I picked it up so quickly" Arizona replied blushing because the fact was, she waited for Callie's call all day.
"Sure, you were Dr Robbins" Callie replied noticing the blush
"Anyways," Arizona said rolling her eyes "How was the journey and how's everyone at home?"
"Everything went great, It felt very nice coming to my childhood home after so long…"
"Hmm I bet, so everything went ok with your mom?" Arizona asked
"Yeah, it was a pleasant meeting, she didn't ask anything, and I didn't say anything either… just general talk" Callie replied shrugging her shoulders.
"That's good I guess"
"Yeah as long as nothing else comes up, it's gonna be okay"
"hmm"
"How's Sofia? Where is she?" Callie asked
"Oh she was so talkative today, told me a million stories and went to sleep a few minutes back"
"Hmm… no doubt she is yours," Callie said laughing and Arizona scoffed
"Are you ready for the conference, any jitters" Arizona asked
"Oh don't even talk about it, I just hope I keep my guts inside at least till the end of my speech," Callie said, suddenly getting anxious.
"Come on Callie, you are a Rockstar… you do awesome surgeries, sure you can give your badass speech to some people," Arizona said, boosting her confidence.
"Some? Try hundreds...hundreds of people Arizona" Callie replied getting even more anxious.
"Callie, you can do it… imagine everyone naked… it helps"
Callie laughs loudly, thinking about the same trick Arizona gave last time she was preparing for the TED talk "Well, I can imagine you Naked" She said bouncing her eyebrows and smirking.
"Nuh-uh… none of that Calliope, no talking about you or me naked while you are there," Arizona said shaking her head frantically which made Callie laugh even more.
"I miss you already," Callie said suddenly
"I miss you too" Arizona replied smiling slightly "6 more days and you will be back"
"Uff! Six more days with my mom… Super" Callie said rolling her eyes.
"Hey! try to be nice"
"I will if she will"
"Okay, now go to sleep, you must be tired, and I will sleep now too since you finally called"
"Ah-ha! It means you are waiting for my call" Callie exclaimed loudly
"Umm.. no…Shut Up! " Arizona stuttered
"Don't try to deny it now Dr Robbins" Callie teased
"FINE! You win… now go to sleep a good night" Arizona replied
"Good night!"
"And Callie" Arizona said just when Callie was about to click disconnect
"Huh?"
"I Love you," Arizona said shyly
"I love you too," Callie said with a big smile and with that they went to sleep.
