Chapter 103.

Barge of the Dead.

(Leah POV)

"Torres to Voyager. I could use a little help here," B'Elanna said.

"What's your status," Chakotay said.

"Tom get down there," I said.

"Yes sir," Tom said.

"I'm approaching your position, but that ion storm blew out my deflector field, I've lost helm control, and I'm venting plasma from the port nacelle," B'Elanna said.

"We're modifying a tractor beam to slow you down," Chakotay said.

"Ready," Tuvok said.

"Acknowledged," B'Elanna said.

"The Arresting fields are in place," Chakotay said. "You're clear to land,"

"Fire," I said. "B'Elanna, Hold on, this is going to be bumpy, Tom is waiting outside the bay,"

"Paris to McCall," Tom said.

"Go ahead," I said.

"B'Elanna is hurt badly, we need to get her to Sickbay," Tom said.

"Harry beam them there," I said.

"Aye Captain," Harry said. "They're there,"

"I'm heading down there," I said. "You got the bridge,"

Once I got to Sickbay.

"Doc," I said.

"We're losing her," Doc said. "Simulator,"

"Ready," I said.

"Now," Doc said. "Bring it up again. Now," As I hit it again.

As B'Elanna woke up.

"It's alright," Doc said. "You're safe,"

"Your shuttle was drifting on the trailing edge of an Ion storm, You lost life support we found you just in time," Tom said.

"Bit I got through the storm, I remember crashing into the shuttlebay," B'Elanna said.

"When we tractored your shuttle back to Voyager, you were in a coma," Doc said.

"We almost lost you," Tom said.

"The Klingon artifact," B'Elanna said.

"Artifact," Tom said.

"My hand," B'Elanna said.

"You took quite a beating out there, more than your fair share of cuts and bruises," Doc said.

XXX

"It's a controlled procedure, I'll be under constant supervision, The Doctor can simulate the conditions of the Ion storm, He's agreed to help me, but only with your permission," B'Elanna said.

"I'm still not inclined to grant your request," I said.

"Are you telling me that I can't pursue my spiritual beliefs," B'Elanna said.

"B'Elanna, I'm not going to let you turn this into a debate About freedom of worship," I said.

"But that's what it is," B'Elanna said.

"There's a limit to how far I'll let religious practices go aboard this ship, If your belief system required you to sacrifice a child to your gods, I wouldn't allow that either," I said.

"That's an absurd example," B'Elanna said.

"You want to simulate a near death experience, so you can revisit the barge of Death, And you're telling me what's absurd," I said. "Bottom line, B'Elanna, I'm not going to let you risk your life for this,"

"Captain Please," B'Elanna said.

"Request Denied," I said.

"What I do with my own life is one thing, but to know that I have condemned by mother, That because of what I've done She's" B'Elanna said.

"I appreciate what you're trying to say, B'Elanna, but whatever you experienced it wasn't real," I said.

"It doesn't matter if you think it was real, it was real to me," B'Elanna said. "Whatever it was, It changed me, I can't ignore it, I need to confront what's happened,"

"I'm sorry," I said.

"You know, You're just like her," B'Elanna said.

"Lt," I said.

"My Mother, You're as dedicated to Starfleet principles as she was to Klingon honour, I know that we haven't always seen eye to eye, But despite our differences, You helped me become a good officer and I'd like to think that you're proud of me for it," B'Elanna said.

"I am," I said.

"My Mother never had the chance to be proud of me, I'd like her to know me the way you do," B'Elanna said. "I don't want her to die thinking of me as a disgrace, You have to let me do this,"

XXX

"Report," I said.

"I've examined the sensors logs from the shuttle mission, I should be able to recreate the exact conditions that triggered her near death experience," Doc said.

"Good, B'Elanna," I said.

"I'm ready," B'Elanna said.

"Be careful," Tom said.

"You'll have an hour to do whatever it is you need to do, At the first sign of trouble we're bring you out, Understood," I said. "Doc,"

"Computer, erect an isolation field around the surgical bay. Decrease oxygen concentration within the force field by 27%, begin Ionizing the enclosed atmosphere to 5,000 particles per cubic meter," Doc said. "She's unconscious,"

"Neural activity is decreasing to 87% 62% Synaptic function is failing," Tom said.

"Compensating," Doc said.

"Neural activity is nominal," Tom said.

"She's not breathing," I said.

"She's still alive," Doc said. "her lungs are taking in just enough oxygen to keep her brain from necrotizing,"

XXX

"Captain her neural patterns are breaking down," Tom said.

"Get her out of it now," I said.

"I'm initiating emergency resuscitation, Vent the ionized particles," Doc said. "20 milligram cordrazine now,"

"I'm deactivating the force field," I said. "Doc,"

"She's not responding to the cordrazine," Doc said.

"Neural activity at 48%, 37," I said.

"We're losing her," Tom said.

"We have to stabilize her synaptic functions," Doc said. "I'm attempting direct neural resequencing,"

"Neural activity's at 23%" Tom said.

"Initiate cortical stimulation," Doc said. "Pulses at 50 millijoules,"

"No effect," Tom said.

"Increase to 70 millijoules," Doc said.

"Come on B'Elanna," I said.

"Oh god I'm alive," B'Elanna said. As she hugged me.

"Welcome back," I said.

That's all for this chapter.

More to follow.

Stay tuned and safe.

Love Y'all
