Ryder's concentration was completely wiped out by the eye-injuring orange light that flickered madly from the ever-failing monitor nearby.
Ryder couldn't understand how arguably the most advanced building in the bay could have had such a thing.
- This is it ... he said firmly, and summoned John and Rocky.
- I just hope he doesn't want us to taste anything with the food processors. The last time he tried to mess with the settings, all of you were bothered by botulism. John said.
- We're going to fix this hardware. Even if he kills us. Ryder said softly.
- With all due respect, you are in no way qualified to even try to repair this equipment, John said.
- Yes, well, I am in charge and I say the three of us will fix it! he hissed.
Three hours and many creative curses from Ryder later, all three managed to find what appeared to be the cause of all system crashes.
It looked like a moldy apple core that some stupid construction worker had thrown there while building the building.
He dropped it and then it just walked out.
- Son of a fucking bitch. Ryder muttered, looking at the culprit.
He reached over to take it out.
- Uh, Ryder, better no
He pulled his hand away and drove it into the socket of tangled wires.
Sometimes things happen that no one can predict.
For example, the sudden surge in power that came out of the power plant knew through the crack how many kilometers of cables inside were going, through that particular place, and from there, over his shoulder to his heart.
A bright blue-and-white flash momentarily blinded everyone, and the lights dimmed ominously.
Ryder was thrown back and hit the ceiling.
As his eyes adjusted to the almost blinding gleam, John realized two things.
First of all: the damn screen seemed to be fully operational.
Had to ignore the smell of burnt electric cables and burnt hair.
Second: Ryder was on the ground, eyes rolled back, and wisps of smoke rose from burnt hair. O o
- Dead? Rocky asked
- He lives because he breathes. He just lost consciousness ... and his arm broke when he hit the ceiling.
