Evi woke up when she heard a soft noise. She looked up and looked around. She heard the soft noise again and looked at Malshall. She could feel the anxiety and sadness in his mind as he purred in his sleep. She gently stroked his face.

- Malshall ... She touched his mind, trying to comfort him.

Vague images and memories attacked her, all filled with a feeling of cold and sad loneliness. She was surprised and saddened by what she saw.

She saw the memory of Malshall, just a little puppy, trying to wake the old female dog that hadn't woken up. His grandmother. He was so small he didn't even know why she hadn't woken up. Memories turned to being in a strange, cold place. It was filled with other puppies, all without their parents. The adults didn't care for the puppies, not much. It was cold and sad and lonely. She could see that he was being harassed because he was the smallest. She was angry when she saw the reason why he was once afraid of the water, the older puppy pushed him into the pool. She felt sadness fill her as she saw little Malshall sitting on the bed crying.

- Why was I born? A soft, sad voice echoed as the image faded into dark blackness, but the sound of crying remained.

It tugged at her and hurt like nothing else.

- Go away! Leave him alone! Evi roared, throwing her red energy at her in the darkness as hard as she could.

She felt his mind and surrounded him with warmth and peace. She felt his fear and sadness disappear.

- Evi ...

- You are safe. I'm here. I love you and I will never leave you. His mind moved closer to hers and she greeted him, embracing his consciousness with love and tenderness.

It hurt that the most important person in her life, the one she loved above all else, was leading such a sad, lonely life, regretting the very fact that he had been born. The cold, stinging pain of loneliness shocked and terrified her. She couldn't get it. It saddened her to think that her beloved Malshall had lived with it for so long. When she was satisfied the nightmare would not return, she allowed herself to fall asleep, Malshall's mind still encompassing hers.
