Belisarius Komenus- District Two male

The only Career who hadn't joined the pack was Chantal. As a result, the whole pack had been looking for her since day one. We weren't about to let her start picking us off, and if she had any brains, she knew that was her only chance.

It took us two weeks to find her. She'd been running from one end of the island to another dodging and hiding among all the trees and shadows. She was a smart one, and she wasn't going down easy. When we finally found her, she was facing us through the trees, looking for all the world like she was facing her fate instead of getting caught.

"Time's up," Mako said, and he smirked.

Chantal was holding her spear ready, and she raised it. The other Careers and I tensed, ready for a fight.

"You can't kill us all," Arielle said.

Chantal didn't answer. She threw her weapon at Pray, spearing her through the leg. Pray went down, cursing and clawing at the grass to regain her stance. Like a springing cat, Arielle jumped behind Pray and stabbed her in the back with her trident.

"Hey!" Mako said, not out of concern for Pray, but because he realized he was also in danger. I backed up, dropping into a fighting stance as I analyzed the scene. Kazuo joined the developing brawl.

Mako came at me with his sword up. I dodged to the side, grabbing a throwing star from Pray's dying body and throwing it at the fleeing Chantal. She'd thought she could trigger the Career breakup and make her getaway, but it wasn't going to be like that. Pray's star thudded into the back of her head and I thought Pray probably would have liked that, since it was Chantal who got her killed. Mako came at me for another strike, and I backed up again, letting him fall forward on his own momentum. As he got up, I stuck my sword through his back.

With one threat down, I assessed the next most pressing. Arielle and Kazuo were wrestling on the ground, with him on top and her stabbing shallow wounds in his chest with her trident. I ran over to them and kicked Kazuo in the side, knocking him off of her. Arielle looked up at me suspiciously, and she was right to, since I stomped my boot on her face and felt her skull crack.

Kazuo sliced his sword into my leg from behind, opening a deep cut but missing the tendons. I pivoted and stepped on the blade, snapping the delicate katana. I kicked him in the face. He sprawled backwards onto his back, and I stuck my sword through his chest before he even hit the ground.

The fight began and ended in less than a minute. It was hard to express to someone who hasn't trained just how fast fights are. They're deadly quick, chaotic, and scarily random. It could have been any of us who came out on top. As it was, I stood above the corpses of my allies and our common enemy, all of whom had been alive and untouched two minutes ago. It happened that fast, and all the training in the world didn't guarantee survival. There were still six other Tributes left, but that didn't matter. In the span of a minute, I had won the Hunger Games.
