Chapter 107
Best Partners
"Willy~ Willy~ Willy~."
I looked around, trying to see where the voice was coming from feeling a bit confused. Then just in front of me, Mira appeared. However, unlike how normally she was, acting cutesy and had a strange atmosphere around her. She sauntered her way up to me, wrapping her arms around my neck, causing my cheeks to grow red.
"Hey there, handsome~" she cooed.
"M-Mira! What are you doing?!" I yelped. "You're kinda... getting too close to me."
"What does it matter~? I know that you wanted me to hold you like this~" said Mira. "In fact, you've wanted me for quite some time now, isn't that right?"
"I-I'm not quite sure what you mean, Mira," I squeaked as I turned around covering my eyes.
"Come on, I see the way you look at me," giggled Mira as she traced her finger on my chest, twirling it around. "You were staring at me the other day when we fought, and I know where." She then pointed to her chest. "You were staring at my boobs, weren't you?"
"N-No, I wasn't!" I stammered, feeling my face burning with embarrassment remembering the other day. "It was an accident! I didn't mean to look! I mean, they were right in front of me, and I couldn't help myself!"
"It's OK, Willy. There's no need to be so embarrassed~," giggled Mira. "Besides, I don't mind if you stare at me~ In fact, I want you to look at me~."
She then hooked her fingers around the straps of her dress and slipped them down on her shoulders, also exposing the cleavage of her chest. I immediately turned my head away while covering my eyes with embarrassment.
"M-Mira, what the heck are you doing?!" I cried. "Y-You can't just go and do something like that in front of me!"
"Sure I can~," I heard Mira purr. "Besides, I want you to look at me~."
At this point, I could feel something press against my back, a soft squishy and warm feeling that sent shivers down my spine. It didn't take a moron to know what was up against my back, and that alone made me swallow a lump in my throat. I had the sudden urge to turn around and look behind me, but I also felt that if I did, I would end up regretting it. It didn't feel right. Mira's voice then tickled my ear.
"Come on, Willy~ Look this way~," she whispered. "I know you want to look at my beautiful body~ You know you want too~."
"M-Mira, please! You shouldn't be showing yourself off like this!" I croaked trying desperately to restrain myself. "I-If you insist on showing me... shouldn't we like... get to know each other or something? I mean, I don't get me wrong, I want to see- I mean no I don't! But that doesn't mean that I want to-"
"But this is my way of getting to know you, Willy~" Mira spoke. "Only in this case, we're getting to know each other with our bodies~."
I felt her hands touch my head forcibly turning me around and my eyes widened. The straps of Mira's dress were down from her shoulders as she was flashing a bewitching smile with her blue eyes twinkling. When I saw this, I found it very hard to resist her. Not to mention that I couldn't take my eyes off of her, most notably on her chest. I swallowed a lump in my throat as I kept staring at it as Mira giggled slowly pulling her dress down.
"That's it, Willy~ Just let go~," Mira said. "Just let go and look at me~."
Mira tugged at her shirt, slowly exposing her cleavage more and more. As she did, she began to lean in close to my face, her lips inching close to mine centimeter by centimeter. It didn't take long to know, that she was going for a kiss, but that didn't stop my heart from beating like a jackhammer and my face growing hot. A part of me wasn't ready for this kind of thing, but at the same time, a part of me wanted to kiss her. Before I knew it, my head began to grow hazy as Mira grew closer and closer, and she pulled her dress lower and lower. Then just as her boobs were about to be exposed, and her lips were about to touch mine..."
I shot up from my bed while letting out a scream as I woke up from my dream. I took a few seconds to calm down, wiping the sweat from my brow as well as swallowing a lump in my throat.
"Damn... another dream? Geez, these dreams are really starting to get on my nerves. However, that dream sure was weird, even weirder than the other dreams."
Then I noticed something as I looked down at my lap. Something was standing up underneath my blanket, causing a tent. Curious as to what it was, I lifted it and peeked underneath it. What I saw at first made me feel a bit puzzled, then my face immediately grew hot like a tea kettle as steam erupted from my head, making me cover up the blanket over my lap. It didn't take a genius to know what was going on, but let's just say there was a dragon raging about.
"Dear God... I've... I've had one of those dreams?! How the hell did that happen?! And why the heck was Mira in it?!"
Then I felt a familiar sensation on my back, causing me to look back to see that my water wings had sprouted out, most likely due to my embarrassment.
"Not again," I groaned. "Why does this keep happening?"
I then got out of my bed, dispersing my wings, and stood up. When I did, I immediately bent over covering my lap once again, feeling the heat spread to my cheeks.
"What the hell is going with me? Have I become as perverted as Sieri?"
After an embarrassing moment like that, and after my little problem calmed down, I got dressed and was now walking towards the Fairy Tail guildhall. The sky was blanketed with dark gray clouds, and it felt a little bit chilly, so I made sure to dress warmly for the occasion. I was now wearing a green long-sleeved sweater with my necklace around my neck along with my usual clothing.
"Man. It sure is cold," I spoke to myself. "Makes me wonder if it's going to snow today."
"Hey! Willy!"
Hearing a voice coming from behind me, I turned around and saw Lucy coming towards me. I then waved to her as she came up to me.
"Hey, Lucy. What's up?" I greeted.
"Are you going to the Guildhall right now?" asked Lucy.
"Yeah. I was just on my way there," I replied. "What's up?"
"Don't tell me you forgot already," said Lucy. "Mira said something's supposed to happen there today."
No sooner than Lucy said Mira's name, I immediately remembered the dream I had the other night, which made my cheeks heat up instantly, of which didn't go unnoticed by Lucy.
"Willy? What's the matter with you?" asked Lucy. "Why are you blushing? Or rather... what made you blush?"
"O-Oh! I'm not blushing!" I cried immediately. "I'm just feeling a bit hot is all! Now, let's get going to the Guildhall! We can't be late!"
I then took off running, not caring if I left Lucy behind.
"Hey! Wait up!" I heard her cry. "Don't just go and leave me behind!"
The two of us eventually arrived at the Guildhall after running all the way. When we got inside, we found that the entire place was filled up to its neck with Fairy Tail Mages. The main stage was also hidden away behind a vast green curtain. Not only that, but there was this strange tension in the air as well as excitement between the wizards. As Lucy and I made out way through the crowd, we then saw Wendy, who was holding Carla in her arms, waiting along with everyone else.
"Hey, Wendy. What's going on here?" I asked. "Everyone in the guild seems to be more excited than usual today."
"Well, from what I've been told, the Master's going to make a big announcement about something," said Wendy. "What that is I'm not sure."
"Personally, I'm not really all that interested," said Carla. "It's probably something that doesn't concern us."
"Well, it must be because I've never seen this many guild members in one place before," said Lucy. "Not to mention with all this strange tension in the air. Kinda makes me wanna know what's going on too."
"A big announcement, huh? I wonder what's up? Hopefully, it's not anything bad."
At that moment, as I looked in the crowd to see if I could get some more info from another member, my eyes happened upon a young man who had short black hair with a couple of scars on his face on the left side of his face. For some reason, I felt a strange feeling of deja vu as I continued to stare at the man. Then as the man turned his head, our eyes just happened to meet. As soon as he saw me, his eyes appeared to twitch a bit as a hint of panic came across his face. After that, he disappeared into the crowd.
"Now, that was strange. I wonder who that was?"
But before I could go and search for him, the green slowly began to rise, and standing behind revealing to be on the stage, was Master Makarov, Mira, Erza, and Gildarts. Upon the reveal, the entire guild went silent as the master cleared his throat, getting everyone's attention.
"In accordance to Fairy Tail's time-honored tradition," Master Makarov spoke. "I will now announce this year's entrants for the S-Class Wizard Promotion Trial!"
The entire guild then exploded in a chorus of wild cheers and joyous shouts.
"S-Class Wizard Promotion Trial?" I repeated feeling a bit surprised. "That must explain why everyone was going on solo jobs the other day."
"Please, be quiet, everyone!" Erza spoke in a commanding voice.
"Shut up and let the Master finish talking!" barked Gildarts. "He's not exactly finished yet."
The entire guildhall went silent, and Master Makarov then resumed.
"The trial this year will take place on Fairy Tail's sacred ground, Tenrou Island," he boomed. "There were three criteria what I looked for while making my selection; the strength that you possess inside, your character, and your heart, and I'm proud to say that these eight participants meet those criteria. Those participants are..."
Everyone seemed to hold their breath as Master Makarov dramatically paused. Then he called out the names one by one.
"Natsu Dragneel!"
The guild cheered, and the pink-headed dragon let out a whoop of joy from somewhere behind me.
"Thank you, sir!" he yelled out.
"You got this in the bag, Natsu!" I heard Happy encourage.
"Gray Fullbuster!" continued Master Makarov.
Not too far away from where I was standing, I saw Gray standing next to Elfman fist pumping with glee.
"Alright! It's finally my time to move up!" the ice mage said with pride.
"Juvia Lockser!" called out Master Makarov.
Also, not too far away, I heard Juvia gasp as she stood next to Lucy, appearing to be surprised.
"Really? The Master chose me?" the water mage gasped.
"Elfman Strauss!" Master Makarov called out again.
I immediately looked at the man question, as he stood next to Gray filled with pride.
"S-Class deserves a real man like me," he bragged proudly.
"Alright! Elfman! Way to go!" I cheered feeling happy for him.
"Do your best big bro!" I heard Lisanna call out somewhere. "And good luck!"
"Cana Alberona!" Master Makarov called out again.
I looked around, trying to see where Cana was in the crowd, but I couldn't see her. However, all the same, I was happy for her to be selected too.
"Fried Justine!" boomed Master Makarov.
I then remembered back to when the man in question went along with me, Wendy, and Happy in the job to Onibas, which surprised me a bit.
"So Fried's been chosen too, huh? Never thought he'd have the caliber to be an S-Class wizard."
"Levy McGarden!" went on Master Makarov.
To my right, I heard a familiar female voice let out a shriek of joy along with two other male voices. I then saw Levy, Jet, and Droy a few feet away in the crowd who were thrilled that the bluenette was chosen.
"I'm so stoked about this!" I heard her cry happily.
"Levy is totally gonna win this one!" Jet and Droy cheered.
"And finally, Mest Gryder!" finished Master Makarov.
Everyone cheered one last time when the last name was called out by the Master. I looked around trying to see if there was any sign of the man in question, but he was nowhere to be seen. Then I remembered seeing the young black-haired man with scars, which made me feel all the more curious about him. Perhaps he was the one the Master called out.
"Although eight wizards have been chosen, only one will remain and become an S-Class Wizard!" resumed Master Makarov. "The trial will begin in one week, so make sure you're all prepared and shape up! Now for the benefit of our newcomers to the guild, allow us to explain the rules of this challenge."
Mira then stepped out. "The eight participants will each choose a partner within the one week," she said. "Whoever they choose will be allowed to train with them during that period as well."
"In addition, you must follow these two rules when choosing your partner," Erza added. "First and foremost, they must be a member of Fairy Tail, and secondly, your partner cannot be an S-Class wizard."
"We'll reveal all other details once we've arrived at Tenrou Island," said Master Makarov. "But know if you want to win, you'll have to get past Erza to claim victory."
"And I'll be doing my very best to help weed out the rest of you beside her," said Mira sweetly while raising her hand.
This made everyone gasp in shock and horror. Even I couldn't help but feel a bit surprised at this. Then Gildarts spoke up an amused smile gracing his features.
"Quit your bellyaching," the old man scoffed. "The three of us had to go through this trial. It's only fair that you do too."
"No way! Did he just say the three of us?!" I heard Elfman gasp.
"You got to be kidding me!" I hear Lucy gasp. "The only way that someone can be an S-Class wizard is by defeating Erza, Mirajane, or Gildarts?!"
"I'm finally gonna get to fight, Old Man Gildarts!" squealed Natsu with glee.
"That's not something to get excited for, you idiot!" Gray snapped with a hint of fear.
"The eight that I named along with their partners, are to gather at Hargeon Port in one week," said Master Makarov. "So make sure you're ready. That is all. Now get to work!"
And with that, the crowd of wizards disbanded. Some of them were feeling excited and wondered who would win in the trials to become S-Class while some were disappointed that the Master didn't choose them. I, for one, felt a mix of both of how they were feeling, but I was happy that the eight mentioned were having their chance to shine and to become S-Class.
But now that the discussion was over, it was just business as usual. Having nothing else to do, I looked around trying to find a decent place to sit down and have a drink of water. I soon came across a table that was free and took my seat. I then called out to Kinana.
"Hey, Kinana. Can I get some water over here please?"
"Coming right up," Kinana called back.
I then sat there at the table, waiting for my water to arrive. As I did, I couldn't help but think about the S-Class Trials again.
"I would never have guessed something like that would be happening," I said to myself. "Not to mention everyone's pretty excited about this. Make me wish that I could have been chosen as a participant. Then again, I wouldn't want to be the person to go up against one of the S-Class Wizards. Most especially, Guildarts."
I then shuddered a bit still feeling a bit unnerved. I could well remember back when I sensed Gildart's magic power when I first met him. I'd certainly wouldn't want to face him as an enemy. Then again, I wouldn't want to fight him, period.
Just then, Kinana came up to my table, setting a cup of water on the table. I gave Kinana my thanks, and I drank my water savoring the taste as it went down my throat. When I finished drinking, I set my mug of water down and aimlessly let my thoughts wander. Then at that moment, I looked over to the table and saw Natsu, Lucy, Gray, Wendy, Elfman, Wendy, Juvia, Happy, and Carla sitting at another table consulting together.
"They must be discussing who their partners are going to be for the S-Class Trials," I murmured to myself. "I wonder who Natsu, Elfman, Juvia, and Gray are gonna pick. Well, whoever they choose, let's just hope that they'll provide them with an edge to beat whoever they face. Gildarts is gonna be crazy tough enough, Erza's a bit weaker but powerful in her own right, and Mira's pretty tough too."
I then started thinking about the fight me, and Mira had the other day. I could still remember her Take Over Magic that she displayed which was a vast improvement over what I remembered as a kid. It made me realize just how much she had grown over the years, along with Elfman and Lisanna. Not to mention, the three were pretty well-known members in the guild as well as Magnolia, which kind of made me feel a little bit jealous of the three. I then realized that I was getting a little bit negative and shook my head, trying to get those thoughts out of my head.
"Come on, Willy. No sense of being negative," I told myself. "Well, since there's nothing for me to do, I suppose I should head home for the day. Maybe I'll go buy something at the book store, and see if anything was interesting to read."
I then got up leaving my mug, and was walking towards the doors outside when Natsu and Happy shot right past me.
"Come on, Natsu! Let's get going!" Happy cried.
"Yeah! Screw a bunch of waiting around here!" Natsu agreed. "We got lots of training to do!"
The two raced through the doors and ran until they disappeared out of sight.
"Well, those two seem excited," I chuckled to myself. "I suppose it is understandable. Knowing Natsu, he's probably pumped to have an excuse to fight the other guild members."
I was just about to continue on my way, when I heard a familiar voice call out to me.
"Hey, Willy!"
I turned around and saw Wendy waving over at another table with Lucy and Carla. I then walked on over to them. When I came up to her, I noticed that Lucy seemed a little sulky.
"Hey there, girls," I greeted as I came up. "What's the matter with Lucy? Did something happen?"
"She's just a little upset that one of her spirits has partnered up with Gray," explained Wendy. "Who also just so happens to be another member of the guild."
"I'm not upset!" Lucy snapped huffily. "I just don't remember Loke and Gray being such close friends before today."
I then took notice of Gray, who was with another man, just a few feet away from us. The man had spikey, short, orange hair, wore glasses with blue lenses, and wore a black suit with a red tie.
"So, I'm assuming that's Loke over there with Gray?" I asked, pointing at the two.
"Yup. That's right," said Wendy.
"So what about everyone else? Did they manage to find partners too?" I asked.
"Yes, they have," said Wendy. "Let's see... Natsu's partners with Happy, Juvia's with Lisanna, and Elfman's planning to be partners with Evergreen."
I quickly scanned the area looking around, and sure enough, I saw Elfman and Juvia. Elfman was over at the bar talking to Evergreen trying to appearing to be nervous while an eager Lisanna was talking to a very doubtful Juvia about something.
"That didn't take too long," I commented. "I would have thought it would have taken those two a lot more time to decide."
"So what are your plans for the rest of the day, Willy?" asked Lucy. "You gonna go out on a job or anything?"
"No. Not today," I replied. "I was just gonna head to the bookstore to look around and then maybe head home."
"Mind if we come with you, Willy?" asked Wendy. "Since everyone else seems busy?"
"Sure. I guess so, but I don't want want to bore you on my little trip," I spoke scratching my head.
"I don't mind at all," smiled Wendy. "Besides, it's been a while since we've been together." She then looked at Lucy. "You wanna come with us, Lucy? We could find some books to help give you some ideas for your novel."
"No, thanks," said Lucy. "I think I'll go straight home. After all the craziness, I need a break."
Lucy then got up as did Wendy while picking up Carla and the three of us walked out of the Guildhall. It had already had begun to snow as we walked outside. From there, we went our separate ways. Lucy went one way going back to her apartment while Wendy, Carla, and I went another direction. The three of us were now walking through the streets admiring the winter scenery; the snow silently rained down around us as we walked.
Wendy and I were enjoying, liked the pleasant walk, but Carla, on the other hand, wasn't so eager. In fact, now that I thought about it, she had been keeping quiet for quite some time now, and I'm sure Wendy noticed this too. Feeling concerned about her, I decided to ask why.
"Say, Carla, are feeling okay?" I asked. "You've been quiet for quite some time now, and that's not like you at all."
"I don't know what you mean," replied Carla. "I'm always like this."
"Carla, come on. Please tell us what's bothering you," urged Wendy. "If you talk about it, you'll feel better."
The white cat sighed and was silent for a moment. Then she responded.
"Alright, then. I've been having these strange visions lately, and it's making me feel a bit uneasy," Carla said.
"Visions? What kind of visions?" I wondered.
"About something going wrong at the trial," said Carla. "Something that will throw everything into chaos."
This made Wendy, and I look at the cat feeling a bit worried. Usually, when Carla has visions, they're most likely going to come true, but at the same time, from what I heard about her ability, they could also be somewhat inaccurate.
"You sure about that, Carla?" I asked. "I mean, if I recall what those elder cats said about your ability back then, you didn't have much control over your visions, and it clouded your mind and memory. You sure it was accurate?"
"I don't know, but that doesn't mean I should just forget about them," said Carla. Then she looked up at bluenette with a stern look on her face. "Which is why I don't want you having any part of that trial, Wendy. You absolutely can't take part in it, understand?"
"Don't worry, Carla. I won't," assured Wendy. "Besides, I don't think anyone would want to pick me as their partner."
I then noticed that Wendy was now looking glum. "What makes you say that, Wendy?" I asked. "Not that I'm saying you should participate, but you make it sound like you don't belong in the S-Class Trial."
"That's exactly what I'm saying," said Wendy sadly. "I'm not that strong, and I'm not much of a fighter either. If I were to be someone's partner, I would only get in the way and slow them down. I mean all I can do is use healing spells and a breath attack. That's not much if you ask me."
"You know Wendy, I'll be honest; I don't think I should be in the S-Class Trial either, because of... personal reasons, but you and I both know that's not true," I spoke gently. "You're a lot stronger than you think you are. I know because I've seen your power first hand. Not only that, but you were able to use a destructive spell on your first try. Back when I was training with Aquadia, it took me at least five tries before I could get it right."
"Seriously? Five tries?" Wendy repeated with a hint of surprise.
"Yep. That alone proves that you're something special," I went on. "You shouldn't be so quick to doubt yourself like Jellal's been said before. As my Master Tu-Chi once said; "Confidence is a great power. Once you start believing in yourself, the magic starts happening" And once that you have that, I believe you'll grow to be a capable and powerful dragon slayer."
As I looked at Wendy, I saw that she was looking at me appearing to be taken aback, but a smile worked its way to her cheeks.
"Your master is very wise," said Carla. "But don't you think that you should also follow that said advice as well?"
"What do you mean by that, Carla?" I wondered.
"Well, from the way you're talking, you seem just as doubtful as Wendy is," said Carla. "Even though you're no slouch when it comes to power yourself."
"Not to mention that you were able to take on Erza and Mira on your own," smiled Wendy. "I'd that makes you more than enough for S-Class."
Upon remembering the fights I experienced, I couldn't help but scratch my cheek with embarrassment. "Well, I suppose that's true, but that was because they were holding back on me," I sheepishly replied. "I'm not really that all that strong."
"Speaking of which, Willy, there's something that I've been curious about," said Wendy. "It was about that fight between you and Mira the other day."
I instinctively gulped, but I made sure to keep it casual. "Wh-what about it?" I asked.
"Well, let me explain. You see, Carla, Lisanna, and I happened to see the fight," went on Wendy. "When we saw you the other day, right when you had Mira open for an attack, you hesitated. Why did you?"
I could feel my cheeks heat up upon remembering, and my heartbeat began to quicken.
"Ah... well... like I told everyone else, I was distracted," I said. "No big deal."
"Now that you mention it, child, it does seem a bit strange," said Carla. "Even if you did let your guard down, Willy, it had to have been quite the distraction to make you freeze up like that. Care to explain what that was?"
"I-It was nothing, Carla!" I spoke, looking away. "I was just distracted, and I let my guard down, okay? There's no need to pry!"
"Willy, are you okay?" asked Wendy. "Your cheeks are all red."
My body then stiffened as I felt my heart pound even more. "Bl-blushing? I'm not blushing! I'm just f-feeling a bit hot is all!" I replied.
"How can you feel hot when it's snowing outside?" wondered Carla. "Not to mention that you're acting strangely."
"Strange? Who? Me? I'm not acting strange, Carla!" I squeaked trying not to freak out. "I'm acting perfectly normal! See? I'm perfectly normal!"
And just to prove it, I did a couple of jumping jacks. However, Wendy and Carla stared at me dumbly, not believing a single word. After a few seconds of feeling silly, Wendy then spoke up.
"Willy, I know this isn't my place to ask, and this might be random, but... do you like Mira?" asked Wendy.
There was a long silence. The question Wendy asked seemed to repeat itself echoing throughout my head. At that moment, I felt my cheeks grow so hot that my face felt like it was on fire, and my wings immediately sprung forth from my back. I was just about to deny the question, when we heard a voice.
"Excuse me. I apologize if I'm interrupting."
The three of us looked up to see that an unexpected visitor had arrived. And to add to that, much to my surprise, that visitor was none other than the man with the scars on his face. He also wore an outfit comprised of a jacket that was red with orange stripes with gold sleeves, green pants and white shoes with gold trims. As soon as I saw him, the heat from my cheeks disappeared in an instant, as did my wings.
"Hey. It's that guy from before," I spoke. "He was at the Guildhall not too long ago."
"Can we help you with something?" asked Wendy politely.
"First, allow me to introduce myself, Sky Maiden. Falconer," the man spoke. "My name is Mest Gryder, and I was once Mystogan's pupil."
"Hold on; you know Mytsogan?" I gasped.
"I had no idea that he had a pupil," said Wendy.
"I'm surprised that he didn't mention me," Mest spoke, scratching his head. "I mean he's told me a lot about you two."
Then suddenly, Mystogan turned his head up towards the sky with his mouth hanging open as he tried to catch the falling snow into his mouth. As he was doing this, I couldn't help but stare in shock feeling a bit unnerved.
"Um... excuse me, Mest, but what are you doing?" I asked.
"I just want to know what fresh snow tastes like as it falls," replied Mest. "Don't mind me, Falconer."
"What's with this guy?" remarked Carla. "He certainly is odd."
"Listen, I know we just met, but I need help," went on Mest who still had his head turned upward. "Particularly you, Sky Maiden Wendy."
"Well, if you're going to ask her for help, you could at least look her in the eyes!" Carla snapped.
Mest then turned his head back. "I apologize. I tend to get a bit distracted when there's something I want to know," he explained. "It's a habit that I just can't seem to break."
"Well, there's no problem in being curious about something you don't know, I guess," I said, trying to be understanding. "Anyway, why did you want to talk to Wendy? Was there something that you wanted?"
"Yes, there is.," said Mest, as he looked towards Wendy. "I want you to be my partner for the S-Class Trial. Please, Wendy, with your assistance, I'm sure that I'll become an S-Class Wizard."
Wendy was surprised as was Carla and I.
"But... why me, Mest?" asked Wendy. "I'm not all that strong..."
"The answer is obviously no!" cried Carla. "Besides, wouldn't someone like Willy be a better option?!"
"Not that I'm doubting Wendy or anything, but I agree with Carla," I spoke, feeling concerned. "I'm a bit stronger than she is, and I have a lot more experience in battle than she does."
Mest was silent for a few moments, then before any of us could react, he jumped right into the canal floating just above the icy water. Any normal man would be freezing to death, but Mest was taking the cold like it was nothing.
"I had to do it," Mest spoke. "I had to know what it feels like to float in a river in the middle of winter."
"Why the heck would you want to know something like that?!" I cried incredulously. "And don't dodge the question for that matter!"
"I refuse to let you partner with this cretin, Wendy!" Carla cried. "This man is all sorts of creepy, even if he's a Fairy Tail wizard!"
Wendy stared at Mest as he floated in the icy water. "Well... he doesn't seem to be a bad person," she said kindly.
"How do you figure?!" snapped Carla.
"I don't know. I just figured that I'd help the guy out for Mystogan's sake," Wendy said. "He did so much for me, and I never got a chance to repay him."
"But Wendy, you've done more than enough to repay Jellal," I said. "I mean you helped saved Edolas which was practically his hometown."
"Yeah, but that's because you and the others were there with me, Willy. I couldn't have done it on my own," said Wendy. "I feel like I owe Jellal so much more. Besides, if you think about it, this could be a chance for me to get some experience in battle."
"No! I refuse! Don't even think about it!" cried Carla. "I will not allow this at all!"
As Wendy and Carla continued to argue with each other, I then looked towards Mest, trying to get a read on him. Other than the fact that he was weird like any other Fairy Tail wizard, something about him seemed off. I couldn't quite put my finger on it. I also had this nagging feeling that I've seen this guy before, but not because he was a Fairy Tail wizard.
"Just who is this Mest guy?"
"You know what? Fine. Just do what you want for all I care!"
"That's fine with me!"
Wendy and Carla's voices suddenly brought my attention back to them, in time to see Carla spread her wings and fly away.
"Wait! Carla! Where are you going?!" I called. "Come back here!"
But it was too late. Carla had already vanished from sight. At the same time, Wendy then faced Mest who was still floating in the river.
"Mest, I'll be your partner," the sky dragon slayer spoke. "I don't know what I'll be able to do to help you become S-Class, but I'll do my best!"
Mest immediately jumped out of the river, his face filled with delight. "You will! Thank you very much! I appreciate it! Let's win this thing together!"
The only thing I could do was stare at the two, my mouth agape, and my eyes filled with confusion.
"What in the heck just happened right now?!" I cried.
Alright, let me explain myself before I get shot.
I decided to not put Willy in the running for the S-Class trial, because I've seen so many people do this in other fanfiction.
So, I wanted to do something unlike the others to give it some spice.
