Chapter 120
Acnologia's Assault
"Ouch! Ow, ow, ow! Damn it! That stings!"
I was now bathing in the medicinal spring, which of course was causing me some pain. I felt a bit excited knowing that I would be able to relax in a bath that was filled with medicinal herbs and would save me on magic power, but that changed no sooner than I entered. Instead of feeling relaxed like I was hoping, I felt nothing but stinging pain throughout my body from my scars to my bruises.
"Maybe I was better off using my healing magic. But then again, I should have expected as much from a medicinal spring. Guess I'll have to put up with the pain."
I submerged myself deep in the water up to my neck, gritting my teeth as the pain continued. The spring itself was in a location a bit further away from the base camp in some ruins. The water itself was a bright green color also had several leaves from the trees as well as some herbs floating on the surface of the water. It wasn't a spring that one could swim around in, but it was right for anyone who wanted to take a break in I guess. Could do without the pain though.
As I sat there in the water soaking myself, I gazed up towards the trees trying to take my mind off of the pain. The sky was a bright blue just as it always was, with not a single cloud in sight, and the sun shining bright. While this was a pretty beautiful view, this didn't exactly help take my mind away from the pain, so I decided to try meditating in the water so that I could think.
I dipped a bit deeper into the water so I could sit properly into the water and hide my scars in case someone saw me. I took a lotus position underneath the water and closed my eyes, focusing, and thinking.
"OK. Let's recap for a second. One minute, I'm trying to call out Doranbolt for being a spy for the Council, the next minute, Grimoire Heart comes out from out of nowhere, not only looking for Zeref, but for some reason were after me too. But the question I have right now, is why? I understand when it comes to Zeref because of that Grand Magic World thing Hades was talking about, but when it comes to me, it doesn't make any sense."
I then thought about the wanted poster with the bounty on my head back when Don Ghira had me captured in Naoko. I considered that to be a possibility as to why Hades was dead set on me, but he didn't seem to be the type of man to want someone just because of some jewel, which meant Hades wanted me for a different reason. Either someone wanted him to capture me for jewel for that said person, or he made a deal with someone to get me in exchange for something.
"But if that's the case, then who did Hades make a deal with, and why is that someone after me? Could be something involving revenge? Jewel? Or maybe it's something else entirely? Geez. I've got so many questions, and yet I have no answers. As if I wasn't confused enough already."
As I continued to sit there in the water, the only sound I could hear was the babbling and gurgling of the water which was coming out of the stone tap fixture. It seemed so peaceful to me that I couldn't help but let go as my body relaxed, the pain dissipating completely as I relaxed even more.
Then I opened my eyes, and to my surprise, I found that I was no longer sitting in the spring. I was now in the same space I've always had seen in my dreams. An endless void of water.
"Oh, no. Not again. Don't tell me this is one of those dreams."
As I looked around in the water trying to make sense of what had just happened, I heard a voice that seems to echo throughout the water.
"Be warned. Be warned of the one who seeks to destroy life."
"Who said that?" I called out. "Hello? Is anyone here?"
I felt like I heard that voice somewhere before aside from my dreams, but I couldn't place who it could have belonged to.
"When the black dragon attacks, an era will end, but one will be born. And the line between humans and dragons, shall be tested once again along with you, young one."
"Show yourself!" I yelled. "Who are you?! And what are you talking about?!"
"Beware... Beware of the fate that will befall you. For the Dragon King Festival draws near, and your loyalty, as well as your power, will be tested. Have you and all the dragon slayers surpassed the dragons selves, or is it nothing more but a dream?"
"The Dragon King Festival?" I repeated, knowing what that was. "What do I have to do with something that happened in the past?! Answer me, damn it!"
But the voice went silent, not answering.
Then suddenly, a sound reached my ears, the sound of some kind of strange rumbling. Upon hearing it, a feeling took me over. A cold, shivering feeling that shot down my spine that made me stop meditating opening my eyes, and made me stand up in the water. It was like someone had encased me in ice, but only lasted for a few seconds.
"What the... What was that feeling I had just now? It was something that... made me feel afraid, along with a sense of dread. But why? And what did I hear just now?"
I quickly stood up from the spring and walked out towards where I left my clothing folded along with some gauze. I quickly dried myself off and put my clothes back on. Once that was done, I made sure wrap my wrists with the gauze, and my choker was on correctly to make sure that my scars were hidden. Then I walked out, and spread my wings taking flight into the air. As I glided over the treetops heading towards the direction of where the base camp was, I now was feeling a small sense of dread. I had sensed danger, and I was praying that I would be
I soon saw the camp below me, and I touched down on the ground looking around. Everyone in the guild was still relaxing just as they always were before I left them. I felt relieved, but still tense as I let out a breath.
"Everything's as they should be. Thank goodness. But... I still can't help but feel "
But then no sooner than I thought that, there was deep and loud rumble that seemed to echo throughout the island causing another shiver to run through my spine, and my blood run cold. This time along, there was something in the air that made me want to hold my mouth to hold back the bile in my mouth. Something smelled wrong, and I knew what it was. It was the same smell that Don Ghira had back when I fought him.
The smell of murderous intent and blood, one of which was a lot stronger than Don Ghira's, and it was heading this way.
"No way... you got to be kidding me! As if we haven't gone through enough trouble?! What in the world is that?!"
Then, at that moment, an earth-shaking roar echoed throughout the air. I felt the urge to plug up my ears, but upon hearing it, I whipped my head up towards the sky, for I knew what kind of roar that was.
A dragon's roar.
Then as I looked up at the sky, I felt that my heart stop entirely, for I saw something that was coming straight for us. It was far away, but I could see it as plain as day. It was big, had large wings, claws that were about as big as two of Elfman, and had razor-sharp teeth that looked so sharp, that it would rip apart a human with one single slice.
It was no doubt a dragon, and as it grew closer, I was quick to realize that it wasn't just any dragon. It was a dragon from a person's nightmares. A dragon that I knew from back when I was a child, thanks to Tu-Chi and her painting.
"N-No way... it can't be..." I murmured, my voice filled with terror, and my body frozen like a statue.
"Holy crap!" Gray yelled with shock.
"That thing's freaking, humongous!" cried Elfman.
As dragon came closer to the island, it let out another ear-splitting roar which was the same as the ones from before. When grew closer, I could see that its scales were colored black with blue markings all over it, which sold it for me as to who this dragon was. I then felt someone shaking me trying to get their attention, but I couldn't look away.
"Oh, man! It is a dragon!" Bixlow cried in disbelief.
"And I don't think that's one of the good dragons that raised Natsu and Wendy!" Happy squeaked. "This one seems evil."
Then I heard Natsu yell. "Hey, Dragon! Do you know where I can find Igneel?! And Grandeeney, Metalicana, and Aquadia, too?!"
I snapped my head towards Natsu, who looked more determined rather than scared. No doubt that he had the idea of questioning the dragon for answers when it came to our foster parents. Finally, having the strength to move, I immediately rushed over to him until I stood in front, gripping him by the shoulders.
"Natsu, you idiot! Don't be so stupid!" I practically yelled. "Don't you realize who that dragon is?! It's nothing like the dragon who raised us as our foster parents! That's the Black Dragon of the Apocalypse! Acnologia!"
"Hold on a minute, Willy! How do you know this dragon?!" demanded Natsu. "Have you seen this dragon before?"
"No, but Master Tu-Chi told me stories about that creature," I said as I looked back up. "Not to mention that she had a painting that looked just like that thing back in Osia! In her story, she told me something about a war happening over a lot of years ago between dragons and humans, and that thing was responsible for killing them all! That dragon is nothing but pure evil!"
"It killed people and dragons?!" Wendy gasped fearfully. "No way!"
"I'm afraid Willy's right about that one," Gildarts said, who was just as unnerved. "Or did you forget what that thing did to my arm and leg, Natsu? Hell, I'm lucky to still be alive right now!"
At that moment, Acnologia, while spreading his enormous thirty meters long wings, touched down on the ground in front of us, making the earth beneath us tremble and the wind whip about like crazy.
"So what are we supposed to do then?!" Natsu asked. "Fight that thing?"
"No! You don't seem to understand our situation, Natsu!" Gildarts spoke grimly. "It's not a matter of winning or losing a fight! It's a matter of getting away with our lives!"
Natsu and I looked towards Gildarts to see a small drop of sweat trickle down his face.
"Are you trying to say that this thing's going to kill some of us?!" Natsu demanded, fear finally evident on his face.
Acnologia then slammed its large paw into the ground letting out a low growl as it brought its head back, preparing to roar once again.
"We have to get out of here, now!" Gildarts yelled. "Everyone, run!"
But his warning came a second too late, as Acnologia unleashed a loud and thunderous roar once again. The sheer force of his roar alone, ripped the ground apart and blasted us with a concussive wind blast which made dust blow all around. I couldn't see anything as I tried my best to stand my ground against the overwhelming wind, but the wind proved too high, sweeping me off of my feet and blowing me backward. I landed back on the ground tumbling and rolling around like a ball, until I came to a stop landing flat on my face.
As the wind died down as well as the sound of Acnologia's roar, I sat back up groaning a bit, while taking notice of the scenery. What was once the forest that surrounded our camp, was now nothing but a wasteland of dirt, much to my disbelief and stupor.
"N-No way..." I whispered. "The entire forest... it's completely wiped out."
Acnologia then took flight once again with a mighty flap of its wings as it looked down at us growling menacingly. I then heard Gildarts yell out once again.
"Listen up! If you want to stay alive, you can't waste time freaking out! Pull yourselves together and let's get out of here while we still can! Hurry, and get tp the ships!"
I turned towards him, and I saw Erza point to some of the trees that were still standing just behind us.
"It's just through those trees!" the red-head shouted. "Now, get moving!"
"The boats?! What good are those going to do us?!" I thought. "Even if we do get to them in time, there's no way we'll be able to protect ourselves! The only thing that awaits us is the ocean, and unless everyone knows to breathe underwater like me, we might as well accept our deaths!"
I shot to my feet and started running as fast as my feet could carry me, until suddenly, Acnologia flew up over from above and landed on the ground just in front of us with a loud earth-shaking boom, cutting us off.
"No, Freed! Bixlow!" Evergreen screamed.
"Damn it! It cut off our escape route!" Gray yelled.
Acnologia then looked towards us and swung his giant claw aiming right for us, forcing us to run back as his claw slammed the ground behind us. Then he swung his large and mighty tail in another direction sending someone flying high into the air as he yelled in pain. That, someone, was Elfman.
"No! Elfman!" I yelled.
I was about to take flight to try and help him, but Evergreen had already taken off flying managing to catch him in time, but Acnologia seemed to anticipate this already as he raised his claw and smacked the two of them down on the ground hard. I immediately ran forward about to try and help them, but then suddenly, a huge magic power began to swell up in front of me where Acnologia stood. It was Master Makarov who was swelling up to an enormous size eventually reaching the dragon's height. Acnologia seeing this new opponent standing before him, lunged, but Makarov immediately stepped to the side and wrapped his arms around the beast's head pinning it to its side, preventing it from advancing any further.
"Get to the ship!" Makarov boomed.
"Gramps, your insane!" Gray yelled. "There's no way you can take on that thing on your own!"
"He's right, Master!" Erza cried. "Please don't play the hero! The guild would be lost if anything happened to you!"
"GET OUT OF HERE!" Makarov yelled back as he continued to keep Acnologia at bay.
"I will fight by my Master's side!" Freed spoke bravely.
"Yeah! No lizard's going to tear this guild apart!" Bixlow spoke defiantly.
"I'll stay and fight with you 'till the bitter end!" Evergreen cried.
"That goes for me too!" Elfman agreed.
Everyone else began to shout too, refusing to leave Makarov's side. At that moment, Makarov looked back towards us.
"WILL YOU BRATS JUST SHUT UP AND RESPECT YOUR MASTER'S FINAL WISH?!" he roared. "GET OUT OF HERE NOW WHILE YOU STILL CAN!"
"Final wish?" Mirajane gasped with horror. "Don't tell me he's..."
My eyes widened in horror, realizing what Makarov was doing as well, and that alone made me feel a lump in my throat as my eyes began to sting.
"No way, Gramps! I'm a dragon slayer wizard, damn it!" Natsu yelled. "This is what I was born to do, so let me-"
"Not today, kid!" Laxus said, as he grabbed Natsu by the scarf and dragged him away.
"Wait! Laxus! Let go!" Natsu complained as he was taken away.
My feet seemed to stay rooted at the spot as I continued to stare at the battle before me, unsure of what to do. At that moment, I felt someone hold my hand tightly, causing me to look beside me, to see that Mira was looking at me with tears overflowing with tears.
"Willy, we have to go," Mira spoke, gripping my hand tightly.
"But Mira, I-" I began to protest, but before I could say anything, Mira had started running away pulling arm, and dragging me with her.
As I ran to try and keep up with her, I couldn't help but look back towards the battle as Makarov's voice screamed out loud as he fought the dragon. While we ran, I looked away fighting back the tears as I continued to run.
This wasn't right!
Those three words were ringing in my head as we fled. Here we were running away while Makarov stayed behind risking his life to protect us. I felt like such a coward, and I cursed at myself for being so afraid and unable to do anything just like before when I was a child.
Then my eyes opened, flashing back to when I was a child. I could remember my mom holding me in her arms running away from the men that were after us, and I could vividly remember her corpse. She risked her life and lost it just to protect me, and now was going to go through the same thing again with my Master?
No.
I stopped running planting my feet firmly on the ground causing Mira to as well, looking back at me
"Willy? What are you doing?!" Mira asked with surprise. "We have to get to boats as fast as we can before Acnologia catches up!"
I looked into Mira's eyes, tears trickling down at my face as I clenched my free hand a fist.
"No. I refuse to run away," I spoke, my voice shaking. "I can't leave! No, I refuse to leave Master Makarov behind! I'm going back!"
"Willy, you know you can't beat that thing!" Mira said. "You saw what that thing is capable of!"
"I'm aware of that, but I don't care!" I said, trying to pull my arm away. "I have to go back and help him! I don't care what thing is! Master Makarov needs us!"
"And how exactly do you expect to help him?!" Mira snapped. "I understand that you want to help him, but it's the Master's last wish, and let him protect us!"
At that moment, something inside of me snapped as I forcibly yanked my arm away from her.
"SCREW HIS LAST WISH! YOU EXPECT ME LEAVE LIKE A COWARD WHILE LEAVING MASTER MAKAROV BEHIND?!" I yelled at the top of my lungs. "I THOUGHT THAT HE WAS LIKE A FATHER FIGURE TO THIS GUILD, AND YET YOU AND EVERYONE ELSE HERE ARE WILLING TO LET HIM DIE?!"
Mira jumped from my yelling, and everyone else stopped running as they looked towards us. Feeling a bit guilty, I lowered my voice as I went on.
"I already lost my mom, I already lost my Dad, and I even lost my village! I'm not going to lose anyone else! You may be willing to accept Master's sacrifice, but I'm sure as hell am not going to! I'm not going to let anyone else die!"
I summoned forth my wings and took flight into the air going back the way I came as I heard voices from the other guild members call out behind me.
"Willy, wait! Come back!"
"It's too risky! Don't do this!"
But I didn't care as I continued to fly not looking back nor stopping. I soon could see the two giants in my sights, Acnologia pinning Makarov to the ground with its giant claw, the old man lying still with his head turned appearing ready to accept his death. Upon seeing this, I no longer could feel overwhelming fear, even forgetting about Acnologia's presence. The only thing that mattered to me right now, was saving my Master, the one who welcomed me to the guild despite everything. He went out of his way just for my sake, and now it was time for me to repay the favor!
Using my Aqua Jet, I shot towards Acnologia while clenching my fists together, feeling my heart pound into my chest as I barred my teeth. At that moment, I let out an inhuman roar as I shot towards the dragon's face summoning forth a water blade.
"LEAVE MY FATHER ALONE, YOU MONSTER!"
Acnologia then looked up, staring straight at me, his eyes widening as did Makarov whose face was filled with disbelief and shock as he stared at me, as I prepared to swing my sword. Acnologia retaliated by swinging its tail hoping to knock me down with it, but I was able to shift to my right dodging the incoming attack. On the ground, I saw Natsu running up towards the beast jumping into the air and latching it onto his arm by the scales. Acnologia growled in annoyance as he tried to shake the pink-head off of him hitting Makarov in the process sending him crashing into a cliff.
I then flew over to where he crashed, landing beside him as he shrunk to his normal form.
"I thought I told you kids to run!" Makarov winced as he held his chest in pain.
"I was down to evacuate too. I'm sure that a lot of other guilds would be willing to let an old man take the fall," Laxus spoke appearing along with Erza. "But not this guild, Old man."
Erza then pointed her sword at Acnologia, giving the command. "NOW, ATTACK!"
Everyone one us all went on the attack unleashing their magic at once at the dragon, ready to fight for our master. Laxus' body began to radiate with lightning as he began to charge up all the magic power within his body, while standing in front of us.
"Listen up, you guys! Let's hit this overgrown lizard with everything got!" the blond lightning dragon slayer yelled. "If you all let loose of your attacks along at once along with my lightning magic, he'll learn never mess with Fairy Tail ever again! Natsu! You better get out of the way, 'cause here it comes!"
"W-wait! Just hold on a second, man!" Natsu yelled back, who was still holding on for dear life.
"No, do it now, Laxus!" Erza yelled as she requipped to her Heaven's Wheel Armor. "Do it now before it's too late!"
"BUT I HAVEN'T MOVED YET!" Natsu squawked indignantly.
But his words fell on deaf ears as everyone unleashed all of their attacks at the dragon at once.
"RAGING BOLT!" Laxus yelled, as he unleashed a powerful bolt of lightning from his fists.
"HEAVEN'S WHEEL! SCATTERED PETALS!" Erza cried, as she unleashed an array of swords.
"SUPER FREEZING ARROW!" Gray shouted he let loose a rain of ice spears.
"WATER NEBULA!" Juvia added, a huge stream of water bursting from her hand.
"SOLID SCRIPT: FIRE!" Levy cried, as made the word fire appear with a wave of her hand launching it.
"LET'S GO SAGITTARIUS!" Lucy commanded, as she summoned forth the horseman in question as he fired an array of arrows.
"EVIL EXPLOSION!" Mira yelled, having to have transformed to her Satan Soul form, releasing a powerful blast of dark magic.
"FEEL THE FULL POWER OF THE THUNDER LEGION!" Freed shouted, as he rapidly swiped his sword, unleashing numerous arrows of his magic.
"COME ON, BABIES! LET'S KICK SOME TAIL! BARYON FORMATION!" Bixlow commanded, as his dolls forming a pentagon, unleashed a powerful green beam.
"FAIRY MACHINE GUN: LEPRECHAUN!" Evergreen shrieked, unleashing a rapid-fire of gold magic needles.
All of the magic attacks all combined into one making one superpowered one shooting straight towards Acnologia. Just before the blast hit him, Happy swooped down towards him at an incredible speed, and grabbed hold of Natsu carrying him out of the way just before the attacks hit. However, the dragon took the blast head on and stood its ground appearing to be unaffected by the attack at all.
"Damn it! It's still not enough!" I thought to myself. "There's got to be some way to inflict some kind of damage to this thing?! But what?! Think, Willy, think!"
I hurriedly thought, and I thought, trying to think of anything I can use to my advantage. Then I had an idea. It wasn't the best one, but this was a desperate situation. I was doing whatever it took to beat thing, even though it was going to be undignified.
"Damn it! We unloaded everything at this bastard, and he's still standing?!" Laxus said, while gritting his teeth. "Let's see what you dragon slayers can do! You hear me, Natsu?!"
I looked up towards the sky in time to see Natsu, Wendy, and Gajeel fly past, going above the beast using their exceeds for support. I then looked towards Elfman who was in the back along with Lisanna.
"Elfman! I need you to throw me as hard as you can to the right, now!" I yelled as I ran towards him.
A surprised look crossed Elfman's features, but then he quickly used his Take-Over Magic to transform to his Beast Soul form. He leaned down taking me with one hand and took aim, and with a mighty heave, throw me with all of his strength, launching me into the air as I spread my water wings heading right.
At the same time, Natsu, Gajeel, and Wendy all took deep breaths preparing to unleash their breath attacks. Using my wings, I banked to the right, curving sharply while clenching my fist, concentrating all of my magic power.
"IRON DRAGON ROAR!"
"SKY DRAGON ROAR!"
"FIRE DRAGON ROAR!"
The three dragon slayers all unleashed their breath attacks at once giving the other members' attack a lot more power, forcing Acnologia to skid backward slightly beginning to lose ground. I then shot right past them, letting out another inhuman yell as I felt my body flare with magic as the water took over my form as prepared to unleash my attack.
"DRAGON SLAYER SECRET ART! AQUA LOTUS SHARK SURGE FIST!"
The water expanded and grew all around me, taking the shape of a shark as I shot straight Acnologia, bringing my fist back. As the breath attack from Natsu and the others continued preoccupying Acnologia, I swung my fist with every ounce of strength, speed, and magic I had to aim for one spot.
Acnologia's left eye.
My impact of my Shark Surge Fist, as well as the breath attacks, finally managed to send Acnologia flying as he sent flying until he went crashing into the cliff and right into the cliff with a mighty splash. A huge spout of water erupted from where he splashed down as it sprayed everywhere.
As the four of us landed back onto the ground, we all stared at the spot where the black dragon was sent in silence, wondering if that was enough to beat it.
"Did that work?" Erza finally asked.
"Of course it didn't," Gildarts said.
"What do you mean, Gildarts?" Gray asked.
"He wasn't even using half as much power when he fought me," Gildarts said. "He's just toying with us!"
I then felt the hairs on the back of my neck stand on end, knowing that Gildaets was right. Even without my Aqua Sense, I could still sense that the creature was very much alive.
The ground to tremble for brief few seconds, then from the sea, the black dragon shot out from below taking flight into the air.
"He's back in the air!" gasped Erza.
"You've got to be kidding!" Elfman said. "Our attacks didn't even faze him!"
"His power's unbelievable!" Gajeel gawked.
"We gave it everything we had... Four Dragon Slayers at the same time, and even the power of our whole guild," Wendy whimpered, her voice filled with hopelessness. "And it still wasn't enough to beat him."
Natsu slammed his fists into the ground in frustration. "Damn it! This wasn't supposed to happen! I'm supposed to be a dragon slayer, so why couldn't I beat him?!"
I couldn't help but feel frustrated as well as I growled while looking up at the dragon. Here we were, combining our powers, and this thing didn't even get a single scratch on it.
Or so I thought.
As I glared at the dragon from above, I saw something that made my eyes go wide with disbelief. On the side of the black dragon's face, I could see that his left eye, was now bruised, slightly swollen, and even oozing a bit of blood. At first, I thought I saw things, but after rubbing my eyes to get a better look, I could see that I wasn't.
"Don't be too sure, you guys!" I yelled. "Look! At his left eye!"
Everyone else seemed to take notice, and they all couldn't help but be shocked.
"Hey! What's with that eye?!" Laxus cried. "Did our attacks work after all?"
"No, only one made it through," Makarov spoke. "And I believe that was that was thanks to Willy."
Everyone then looked towards me, disbelief written on their faces.
"No way! Willy was able to score a hit on Acnologia when Gildarts couldn't?!" Lisanna gasped incredulously, as she looked at me. "How did you even do that?!"
"It's simple. If you can't hit the skin of your target, then go for the universal weak spot that every creature has. The eye," I panted. "To survive, it's necessary to fight, even if you have to fight dirty."
"I don't know what that means, but it sounds manly to me!" Elfman grinned. "Way to stick it to 'em, Willy!"
"I'm not so sure that was a good thing to do!" Happy warned. "I think that might have made him angry!"
At that moment, Acnologia let out a roar that seemed to be louder than before, forcing me to cover my ears. At the same time, I heard a voice.
"You lowly humans managed to wound me? An impressive feat, but is a feat that just sealed your fates. Prepare to die!"
I whipped my head around upon hearing the voice. It was deep, male, and a bit demonic, and didn't belong to anyone else in the guild. Then I looked up towards Acnologia, who was looking down towards us with his one good eye which seemed to be filled with malice and anger. It was then that I figured out where the voice came from, and it almost made me gasp wanting to clasp my hand over my mouth.
It had to have come from Acnologia.
"Did... did Acnologia just talk?! I knew he probably could, but... did I just understand his growling and roaring?! What the hell is going on here?!"
He then began to take a deep breath, taking in a large amount of air as the inside of his mouth, beginning to glow in a faint blue. I knew right then what it was about to do, which made me feel my face pale.
"It's a breath attack!" Gajeel and I yelled at the same time.
"Is he going to wipe out the entire island at once?!" Cana gasped with horror.
"You've got to be kidding me..." Juvia said. "Just how powerful is that thing?!"
As I stared up at the dragon, my entire body was now filled with hopelessness as well as despair. If Acnologia unleashed that breath attack; there was no doubt that every last one of us will be demolished with a single blast without any hope of surviving, and worst of all...
We wouldn't survive.
"N-No... it can't be," I whispered, as I sank to my fours trembling like a leaf. "It can't end like this... No way. I don't want to die. I don't want to die like this."
As I stared at the ground while on my hands and knees, I began to sink into despair, having to have lost all hope for fighting and for surviving.
But then, an outstretched hand appeared in my vision, causing me to look up to see that the hand belonged to Mira.
"Come on, Willy. Pull your self together. We're not going to die here!" Mira spoke gently but firmly. "And even if we were, we're not going to go out without a fight!"
I looked up at Mira and then back at her hand, and noticed that it was trembling slightly. I was quick to realize that Mira was just as scared as I was, but she still was brave enough to face death square in the face refusing to give up the fight. I couldn't help but be moved as I took Mira's hand holding it tightly while standing up.
"Come on, Lucy," Natsu encouraged the blonde next to him. "We are not going to go out crying!"
Lucy, who was crying out of fear, looked the pink head hesitantly reaching out, only Natsu to grasp her hand halfway as he gazed back at her with determined yet comforting eyes. Lucy's face then filled with courage as she gripped his hand tightly.
"That's right. It's not over yet!" Lucy cried out. "Because Fairy Tail's never given up the fight, and we ain't going to stop now!"
"That's right! We all got to face our fears and bring our powers together!" Gray said while taking Juvia's hand. "Let's show this overgrown lizard that our bond will never be broken!"
Everyone soon was standing in a circle. I stood between Lisanna and Mira, and I could feel both of their hands gripping tightly on both mine. I looked at Mira, and she looked back at me. The two of us exchanged determined looks, and gave each other a determined nod. The last to join the circle was Makarov as he held on to Laxus' hand, openly weeping as he smiled.
"Okay, you kids," he sniffled. "Let's all go home together! All of us!"
The glow in Acnologia's mouth had grown even brighter than before as he prepared to fire at us, but we all stood our ground ready to face the evil beast together.
"BACK HOME TO FAIRY TAIL!"
At that moment, Acnologia finally fired unleashing a powerful laser-like blast from his mouth straight down at us. As it came, I felt more terrified than before, but I didn't run or did I hide. If this was my fate, I was going to accept it, nor would I have it any other way. I then closed my eyes concentrating, as I said a silent prayer.
"Finn... Sieri... Master Tu-Chi... if I don't make it out of this, I'm sorry. But I love you all. And Mama, Papa, if and when I do die, I'll be with you shortly. And Aquadia, I'm sorry if I let you down. Forgive me for being weak."
Next thing I knew, the blast from Acnologia completely overtook my eyes as I saw nothing but white, my consciousness fading away.
NO POV
Not long after, Doranbolt, Lahar, and their crew had begun scouring the nearby waters for any survivors. So far, they found nothing. Doranbolt was desperately searching around trying to see if anyone was still alive, refusing to believe what had just happened.
"Come on! Come on! There has to be someone that survived! Anyone!" Doranbolt growled to himself. He then turned to a couple of the shoulders. "Do you see anything?!"
"No, sir," replied one soldier. "I don't see any sign of them anywhere!
"Well, keep looking!" barked Doranbolt. "Don't stop until you see any signs of life!"
"Doranbolt, that's enough," Lahar said, how desperate that his partner was acting. "You saw it happen for yourself, Acnologia wiped off Tenrou Island off the face of the Earth! There is no possible way anyone could have survived an attack that powerful! Especially from a creature like that!"
Doranbolt glared at Lahar growling in frustration as well as anger. Then he sank to his knees and punched the floor of the boat with his fist, biting his lip while choking back a sob. He didn't want to admit it, he didn't want to believe it, he tried to convince himself that there had to be at least one survivor that remained, but deep inside of his heart, he knew it was true. Tenrou Island was gone along with the Fairy Tail guild, and there was nothing else he could do about it.
"Wendy... I'm sorry," Doranbolt choked. "I couldn't do anything to help you, and now... you along with Fairy Tail are gone. I'm so sorry."
Lahar wanted to comfort his friend, but he knew that he would most likely add salt to wound, so he said nothing. He then turned towards his soldiers, and was just about to give the order to move out, but suddenly one of the soldiers called out from above on the crow's nest of the boat.
"Captain Lahar! Doranbolt!" the soldier yelled. "I think I see something in the sea!"
This made Doranbolt and Lahar look up at the man, shock evident on their faces. Then they rushed over to the side of the boat trying to see what the soldier was seeing. In the distance, something was bobbing up on the surface of the water rolling on top of the waves. At first, no one really could make out what it was, but then Doranbolt's eyes widened knowing what the object was.
It was a body.
"Man overboard!" yelled out, Lahar. "Fetch a hook, and bring him aboard!"
But before anyone could, Doranbolt using his Direct Line disappeared from view and reappeared in the water where the body was floating, and appeared back on the ship carrying the body in his arms. When he did, everyone quickly rushed over to see whose body they rescued. Upon seeing him, all the soldier's eyes were wide as was Lahar's. As Doranbolt set the body down, he took a look as well, and he too couldn't help but be shocked.
For the person he rescued was male, caucasian, had matted dark brown hair, still had bandages on his left arm, while his body was covered in bruises and scratches. His right arm, however, was completely burned, charred completely black like someone or something had burned him. Aside from those injuries, the boy was still breathing despite him being unconscious.
"Set sail, now! We must get back to Magnolia immediately!" Lahar commanded urgently. "And get the first aid. I need those wounds treated as much as possible!"
The soldiers then bustled about, as they did as they were ordered, while Lahar and Doranbolt stayed behind still staring at the person they rescued with wide eyes.
"I don't believe this..." Lahar whispered. "Out of all the people that we ended up finding... it had to be him..."
"I knew it. I just knew it," Doranbolt murmured. "Someone did manage to survive. But... what are the odds that it would be him?"
It happened on this day, December 17, X784. The day that Acnologia wiped Tenrou Island off the map.
Satisfied that his work was none, the black dragon flew off, disappearing into the vast blue sky.
It seemed that no one was able to survive Acnologia's attack, however by some miraculous chance of fate and luck, one single person remind.
And that person was on his way back to Magnolia, unaware of what the universe had in store for him in the future.
And there you have it! The end of the Tenrou Island Arc!
