Compromise (DCAU)

"Please, Bruce," Diana purred again, giving him her best persuasive look. "Won't you at least consider it…for me?"

Bruce huffed in annoyance. "I just don't understand why you want to go."

"Really, Bruce?" Diana glared at him before glancing down at her belly, her lips pursing in irritation. "You really can't figure out why?"

"Okay, wrong choice of words," he ultimately decided as his eyes fell on her swollen abdomen that his fault.

"I just want you to think about it," she insisted, closing the distance between them. She wrapped her arms around his neck, smiling warmly as she tilted her head. "Please? For me?"

"Fine…I've thought about it and I think it's a horrible idea," he stated, doing his best not to be affected by her.

"That's not funny," she snapped as she pulled away from him. "Do you really want to aggravate a pregnant Amazon?"

"I don't want to upset you at all," he replied. "I just don't think it's necessary for you to go. I mean you're an Amazon. You'll probably fly right through the delivery."

"Well, Leslie thinks it's a good idea and I happen to agree with her."

"Diana…"

"It's okay, Bruce," she stated as she held up her hand to silence him. "I'll just go by myself…or maybe I'll find someone else to go with me."

"I don't want you to go by yourself."

"I'm going to this Lamaze class whether you come with me or not," she insisted. "I just don't understand why you refuse to even consider it."

Bruce wrapped his arms around her waist, leaning in and kissing his wife in an attempt to assuage her. "It's not that I'm against the class at all. I think it's a good idea."

"Then, what is it?"

"Because the media always has a field day with our lives and I don't want to give them another reason to," he revealed with a disgruntled frown. "I can see the headlines now. 'Bruce Wayne in Lamaze Class with Wonder Woman'."

Diana's eyes narrowed as she studied her husband. "And what's wrong with that? Are you ashamed of being seen with me…of getting me pregnant in the first place?"

"Never, princess," he reassured her, kissing her once more. "I've never been ashamed of being seen with you and I'm thrilled that you're having my baby, but do you really want to pick up the newspaper and see a picture of us in Lamaze class with the headline 'Wayne Finally Learns Where Babies Come From'?"

"Lamaze class is a common experience that many women go through," she pointed out. "It's a natural part of the pregnancy process."

"I know, but…I don't know," he said with a sigh. "It's just so personal. I don't want to share the experience with the whole world. This is between you and me…and I want to keep it that way."

Diana's lips curled into a loving grin as her hand came to rest against his chest. "That's sweet, Bruce," she replied, kissing him soundly. "How about a compromise?"

"What kind of compromise?" he warily asked, kissing along her jaw to her ear in an effort to continue what she'd started.

"How about I set us up for a private Lamaze class here at the manor?" she suggested, tilting her head to the side as her eyes fell closed with a breathy gasp.

"Hmmm…" he thoughtfully hummed as his hand moved to cup her breast. "That is something that I might be able to agree to."

"Great!" she exclaimed, pulling back and kissing him hard. "I'll see if Lois and Clark want to join us."

"What?" he cried with a combination of shock and disbelief. "I never—"

"I'll go call Lois now and see when they're free," Diana told him as she walked towards the door of his library.

"Diana!" he yelled as she left the room. "I'm not doing a Lamaze class with the Boy Scout!"

He waited for several moments, not receiving any response from her. "Diana?" he called her name. "Diana!"

Bruce rubbed his face with his hands, cursing under his breath. He was so screwed.

"I can't believe you talked me into this," Bruce ground out as Diana led him towards the library where the Lamaze instructor was setting everything up.

"I promised that I'd make it worth your time, and I will," she reminded him. "Just focus on the reward and not the task."

"That's easier said than done," he grumbled. "You won't have Boy Scout grinning at you from ear to ear through the whole class."

"It'll be fun," she told him. "We get to learn something new with our friends."

"It's bad enough that Lois got pregnant at almost the same time as you, but now I have to go through Lamaze class with them."

"Do I need to remind you that Lois and Clark are our best friends?"

"They can be our best friends without having to bond over our babies," he retorted.

Diana pulled him a stop in the hallway, a fierce glare on her face. "Bruce Wayne, you promised you would do this with me," she stated, clearly running out of patience with her husband. "I realize that I am dragging you out of your comfort zone here, but it's only for a couple of hours and it's not the end of the world. You will survive this."

Bruce drew a deep breath, releasing it slowly. "You're right…I'm sorry," he apologized. "This means a lot to you, so I'll try to have a better attitude."

"And?" she pressed, a single raven eyebrow cocking with impatience.

He rolled his eyes as he cursed under his breath. "I'll be nice to Clark even though he's going to annoy me."

Diana kissed him sweetly, her hands coming to rest against his chest. "Thank you," she replied. "I promise you'll love your reward."

"If he thinks for one moment that I'm going to let his son marry our daughter, I've got a nice piece of Kryptonite that says otherwise," he told her.

Diana chuckled softly, kissing him once more. "There's the brooding, overprotective man that I fell in love with."

"I'm not overprotective," he insisted.

"Right," she drawled as she took him by the hand, leading him the rest of the way to the library.

Entering, they found Lois and Clark were already here, Clark beaming with pride. "Bruce!" he exclaimed. "Isn't this exciting?"

Bruce growled low in his throat, Diana tightening her hold on his hand in an effort to calm him. "I'm glad you and Lois could come," Diana told him.

"This is going to be interesting," Lois said with a frown. "I think we would've been better off doing this class without our husbands, Diana."

"No," Diana insisted, her hands coming to rest on her abdomen. "I want Bruce here with me. We made this baby together out of our love for one another and I want him here with me to experience every part of it."

"Uh, Diana…" Bruce murmured, squeezing her hand to stop her from saying anymore. "They already know I'm the father."

Lois smirked at them. "Don't be a prude, Bruce," she teased him. "We all know what a swinger you were before you met Diana."

"I wasn't a swinger, Lois," Bruce bit out. "It was just an act."

"All right," Ashley said as she clapped her hands together. "I'm all set to go. If each couple will take a seat on one of the large rubber balls, husbands sitting beside your wives."

Clark grinned as he clapped Bruce on the back. "Our kids are in their first Lamaze class together," he told him. "Before you know it, my son will be asking your daughter out on a date."

Bruce glared at Clark. "Not going to happen, Boy Scout."

Diana looked at Bruce with an apologetic expression, mouthing "I'm sorry" to him as he made his way to her with a scowl on his face. She took his hand as he sat on the rubber ball. "I'll make your wildest dreams a reality," she whispered in his ear.

"I can hear you," Clark reminded them from his spot beside Lois, flashing a grin at them.

Bruce leveled a Batglare at the Man of Steel, already thinking of sixteen ways to make his life miserable. He may be his best friend, but that didn't mean he wanted to bond like this with him or that he wanted to talk about him and Diana making a baby together in front of their friends.

"First, we're going to watch a video about how babies are made and their development in mommy's womb," Ashley excitedly announced, pushing a button on the remote.

Bruce leaned over to Diana. "Wildest dreams," he softly hissed in her ear. "You promised."

After suffering through the video, Ashley brought out her easel with full-colored pictures to review what they had just learned. It was bad enough that he'd had to endure sex education in school, but to hear it all over again with Boy Scout just added to his misery.

If he didn't know what he was doing by now, he was definitely doing something very, very wrong and seeing how amazing sex with Diana was, he was pretty certain he was doing something very, very right.

Besides, wasn't it a little late to be reviewing this with his pregnant wife? The cat was already way out of the bag…his wife seven months pregnant with his daughter. He wondered if they couldn't move things along here a little, maybe text Alfred and persuade him to come get him because of some emergency he was needed for.

Bruce carefully began to reach for his pants' pocket to retrieve his cell phone when a vice-like grip clamped down around his wrist. "Don't even think about it," she softly threatened him.

Damn, she was good.

Thankfully, Ashley moved on to what they really needed to know about—giving birth. She reviewed methods to reduce anxiety and pain, breathing techniques to help through contractions, various positions, and the husband's role in helping his wife through the entire experience.

To Bruce's surprise, it turned out to be rather informative, his heart hurting knowing the pain that Diana would be forced to endure in order to bring their daughter into the world. He knew, though, that there was absolutely no other place that he'd rather be than by her side when she finally arrived.

It would be worth it all when they finally got to hold their baby Julia…at least that was the name that he wanted. They hadn't actually come to a complete agreement on their daughter's name yet, Anastasia and Eleanor being Diana's favorites so far.

He glanced over at Clark to find him still beaming proudly as they listened to Ashley, his hand on Lois's belly. He had to admit that it was a rather touching experience if he was being sentimental. It was a good thing he didn't have a tendency towards sentimentality on a regular basis.

He turned his attention to his wife, the look of awe and wonder gracing her face melting his heart. There was a true glow about her that completely enveloped her, making him fall even more in love with her than he thought was possible.

He leaned over to her, nuzzling her ear with his nose. "I love you, princess," he whispered, "and I love our daughter."

She turned her head, her nose brushing against his as her lips curled into a soft smile. "I love you too, Bruce," she softly murmured.

"What do you think of Julia Eleanor Wayne?" he asked her as Ashley answered some questions for Lois and Clark.

She gently brushed his bangs from his forehead, adoration alight in her blue eyes. "I love it," she agreed. "It sounds like the perfect compromise to me."

Bruce chuckled softly. "We're getting pretty good at this compromise thing, aren't we?"

She kissed him slowly…sweetly. "I have to agree with you on that."

"How soon can I get my reward?" he asked with a leer and smirk.

"I can hear you, Bruce," Clark loudly stated.

Bruce growled as his eyes fell closed in frustration. "I'm not compromising on my daughter dating his son," he told his wife.

"Can we compromise?" Clark asked with a laugh.
