CHAPTER II
"ENCHANTRESS'S FIRST PIZZA"
Peter couldn't help the smile that wormed it's way onto his face as he watched the Enchantress brows the picture menu with something akin to child-like wonder. They were currently seated in a small booth in front of a picture of the Fantastic Four. For some odd reason that picture reminded him of the time he'd gone out with Sue and took her to get pizza because he had no real plan, kind of like right now. Huh? Hopefully this wouldn't end with an Asgardian smashing through the door and trying to take his head off.
Peter brushed off the negative thought plaguing him and turned his attention back to the goddess who was still reading over the menu and staring at the various pictures. Seeing her so fascinated by the many combinations was actually kind of cute. It was almost hard to believe Amora was actually a millennia old sorceress that could hex him into a tree should she feel the urge. Almost...
"So many different combinations, toppings, and sizes." She said aloud to no one in particular. Small pizza's, medium sized pizza, supreme pizza. Add to that there were also the different kinds of crusts, plain, cheesy, thin. And the toppings, pepperoni, sausage, extra cheese, veggie, ham, pineapple, etc. She didn't know what to pick and all of the pictures looked so appetizing. "I... I don't know what to pick."
"Yeah, it can be a bit overwhelming at first. I still remember my very first pizza... gold ol' pepperoni." Peter giggled. He'd never forget that taste for as long as he lived. There was just something so special and alluring about pizza, kind of like the Enchantress herself. Peter blinked. Did he really just compare the seducer of men to pizza? He totally did, didn't he? "Uh... so, do you need help making a choice? The waiter will be back soon."
Amora bit the tip of her thumb as she thought Peter's offer over. She'd never had a pizza before, meanwhile he's probably feasted upon hundreds if not thousands of them. They all looked good, and smelled good too. As much as she didn't want to admit it, she was out of her depth here. If this were Asgard then she could just demand meat and be done with it. She sighed in defeat. "What would you recommend?"
Peter's smile returned. "Well... I guess I'd start you off with the classic, can't go wrong with good ol' pepperoni."
"I see. Then pepperoni pizza I shall have." Amora agreed, happy to have finally made a decision.
"Good to hear because the waiter's back."
A man dressed in all black greeted the pair with a smile before delivering their drinks. Peter had a Sprite while Amora had a Cola. She eyed the black drink closely having never had a Soda While Peter did the talking.
"Where are your drinks." the man smiled as he pulled out a small notepad. "Do you guys know what you want, or do you need a few more minutes?"
"Nah, we're ready. We'll have one supreme pepperoni pizza please." Peter answered.
"Excellent choice." the man said while writing down the order. "We'll that be all?"
"Yeah, I think that'll be it. This'll be my friend here's first pizza, so I want keep things simple."
The man's eyes almost seemed to pop out of his skull. "She's never had a pizza before?"
"No... I have not." the Enchantress answered back while still looking over the ice cold soda.
The quickly worked off his surprise and put his smile back on. "If that's the case then I'll make sure it's a pizza to remember. You two enjoy your date." he pocketed the notepad and headed back to the back.
Wait date...!? "H-Hey... we're not... and he's gone." Peter sighed. This wasn't a date, was it? He was just trying to cheer the villainess up so she didn't do something crazy. This was not a date, right?"
Amora also looked to be perplexed by the thought. Date? This was no date. This mortal was simply buying her food was all. That did not constitute as a date, unless the earthly customs of Midgard have changed. This world was a far-cry form Asgard after all. Was this a date? Was the man of spiders actually trying to court her?
"Uh... sorry about that." Peter apologized as he rubbed the back of his neck.
"Tis fine." Amora brushed off. "A date does not sound terrible though."
"O-Oh! Well uh... I guess it's a date then." internally Peter was fighting to understand what was happening. When did this become a date? He couldn't date the Enchantress, could he? She hypnotized him and used him as a battering ram against Asgard. She worked side-by-side with Loki against Thor. But then again she did work with goldilocks a few times in the past and helped save the world at one point. GAH! This was confusing. "So... tell me about yourself."
"What do you want to know?" she asked.
"Anything you can tell me." Peter said as he took a sip of his sprite.
"Well, I've been a gust inside you're head, so it's only fair I tell you a little about me. I was born in Asgard and began learning magic as an apprentice to the queen of the Norns, though we had a falling out. After that I began studying on my own, and learned more than a few trick from more experienced individuals. In time I became one of the most powerful magic-wielders in the realm, and was known to be quite a charmer."
"You don't say." Peter smiled. That made sense, he knew first hand how powerful she was and had been on the receiving end of her charms.
"What about you? What have you been up to recently?"
"Me? Well, I finally moved out of my aunt's place a few years back, I'm still working on getting my college degree, and I still take pictures of Spider-Man for the Bugle." Peter explained.
Amora giggled. "Not a bad job all things considered. You get paid to take pictures of yourself."
"I guess so. Anyway, aren't you going to drink your soda?" Peter asked his... date?
"O-Oh, Right." she'd never had a soda before and Peter said that Cola is one of, if not the most popular soda in the world. Thinking back she'd seen a giant billboard advertising it in the city. She reached out for the cup and felt the coolness against her skin. She eyed it carefully as she brought it to her lips and Peter watched with bated breath to see the goddess's reaction.
Time seemed to almost slow to crawl when she took her first swig, and the widening of her eyes nearly made the hero choke on his laughter. "Delicious!" she smiled. She took another sip of the carbonated drink and Peter watched as more and more of the black liquid disappeared down her throat. "This is amazing! There is nothing like this on Asgard. How have mortals created such a concoction?"
The cola had been cool and sweet. It burned a bit going down but not at all in a bad way. Her taste-buds have never drank anything so unique. Soda was truly a magnificent creation. She had to have more. She finished off the rest of her glass in no time at all.
*BURP!*
"Excuse me." she quickly covered her mouth.
Peter simply laughed. "Don't worry, Soda will do that to you. I'm just glad you liked it."
The two continued to talk about for a while about anything that came to mind. The topics ranging from life to the weather. Eventually the pleasantries were halted when a very delectable scent began fast approaching them. Their waiter had come back with their pizza, and the sight of it had Amora excited. It was huge circular fusion of bread, cheese, and meat... and what was that other smell mixed in?
"One supreme pepperoni pizza with garlic bread crust... on the house." the man said.
"Wait... did you just on the house?" Peter questioned. He had to make sure he heard that right.
"Yep, told my boss that this was the lady's first time ordering a pizza and he wanted to make sure it was memorable. Enjoy." the man finished before leaving them be.
"Well that was nice." maybe the old Parker was finally beginning to turn? "Well, let's dig in."
Peter grabbed on of the plates that the waiter brought with him and placed on in front of Amora before grabbing another for himself. The blonde watched him simply grab a slice from the circle and watched him take the first bite. He looked like he was in Valhalla his smile was so wide. Not wanting to waste another second she mimicked his action. She reached out and grabbed a slice herself and was surprised by how easily it broke away into a little triangle. Following peter's lead, she brought the tip to her mouth a took her very first bit.
The second it slice reached her tongue it was like an explosion had gone off. The taste... she'd never tasted anything so delicious in her thousands of years of life. Pizza? How had she never tasted it before. It was enough to almost make her eyes water. She began taking more bites, savoring the taste of cooked meat and hot and melty cheese. Maybe mortals weren't so bad if they could produce divine flavors such as these. She gobbled the slice down the crust and on instinct took a bit of that as well. The garlic bread had her humming in delight.
This was love...
Peter, and secretly the pizza staff, watched her devour slice after slice with such enthusiasm that they knew the pizza had been a huge and memorable success. Peter was overjoyed that his plan had worked and that he wouldn't have to pay for any of this. Also he better grab another slice before Amora ate it all.
"That was fantastic." she sighed contently.
"I'll say, and that's just one of many." Peter explained.
"I'll have to come back here again sometime. That was truly magnificent." the Enchantress smiled contently.
It really was. Peter wondered what to do next since they'd now finished their food. If this really was a date then he needed to figure something else out. It was evening when he bumped into her and their was still a lot of daytime left, so where to next?
Maybe...
"Alright then." Peter stretched. "Now that we're full, let me show you one of my other favorite spots."
Amora nodded and got up to follow the man who'd introduced her to such a great dish. She was having a good time and for the first time in a while, completely forgot about Thor and his engagement. Wherever they were headed too next, she hoped it would be as grand as Joe's.
The doorbell rang, signaling their exit.
