Chapter 05: Fruit
At this, she stirred. She turned to look at him for the first time since she arrived at the spring.
"I am pregnant?"
He did not answer, but he did not need to. In the silence, she heard the truth.
She was pregnant.
The first sensation that rose inside her was nausea. The second, anger.
Then, she had to stop herself from feeling, because to have him witness her processing through the jumble of emotions was another intrusion upon her private parts.
"I am supposed to marry Inuyasha in three days," she said quietly.
When silence reigned, her chin wobbled with the force of her tears.
"I need… some time to come to terms with what happened… and what will happen," she told him. "Please leave."
It surprised her that he began to walk away without countermanding her request. Thank goodness for small mercies.
"I will wait for you at the village," he said. "And then, we will depart together."
"Depart… to where?"
He paused to look at her over his shoulder. "To my home. Far away from here."
