Chapter 07: No Reason
The implication of his statement dawned on her, and any words of protest died at the tip of her tongue.
"I will leave you to complete your ablutions," he said, and quietly tread away.
"Sesshōmaru."
He stopped but did not turn around.
As she stared at his stiff, unyielding back, she asked the question she had asked repeatedly in her head while he violated her.
"Why me?"
The wind blew, whipping his silver hair as he stood there in silence, as though he himself knew not the answer.
"There was no reason," he finally said. "You were there when the beast needed it."
His answer chilled her even more. She did not know it was still possible. Surrounded by hot water, she was cold to the bone.
All this… for no reason? Her life ruined, for no reason?
After he left and she could no longer sense his presence, Kagome hugged her knees to her chest and wept.
