Chapter 10: Meaning
A string of 'Sits' brought Inuyasha to the ground. She might have overdone it, but she wanted him knocked out. Unconscious.
Because otherwise, there was no way he would have let her walk out of the village with Sesshōmaru.
Tears were rolling down her face when she finished. Her chest hurt as she struggled to take in big gulps of air, so much she thought her heart was about to explode. She wanted to fall to her knees in front of Inuyasha's prone body and wept.
It wasn't supposed to be like this.
Once the dust settled, knowing he was still standing behind her, she said: "I need to change my clothes and pack a few things."
Sesshōmaru said nothing, but he did not stop her.
Kagome went to her hut to change her soiled clothing, gathered a few basic necessities, and wrapped them all inside a bundle of cloth.
As she worked methodically, strangely, her emotions gradually diminished until she felt nothing. It was as though all her love and happiness had gone down with Inuyasha, scattered on the ground to mix with the dirt and dust.
Meaningless.
