Chapter 15: Reject
'— you will always be a beast to me.'
Those words reached his ears just as he was moving away to find an obliging wind to carry two messages for him: one to his cousins at home, and one to his mother at her palace amongst the clouds.
The miko despised him, and no wonder.
Her scent of distaste was clear, and her loathing ran deep. She did not bother to hide it, and he had no one to blame but himself.
As much as both of them wished things were different, she was his responsibility now. And she had conceived, meaning her fragile body now hosted an even more fragile creature inside it. Though faint, he sensed the new life budding within her womb.
Alas, as such, her rejection at every turn made it difficult for him to even show the slightest bit of consideration. It served as a constant reminder of his failures. Judging from the hard flint in those eyes, he knew she would never forget, let alone forgive.
That makes the two of us, Miko.
He steeled himself and turned away.
