You and Me After All
Chapter 18: Sea
They had flown so far that they finally reached the ocean. Kagome feasted her eyes on the endless sea of blue, on the frothy waves tipped with white foam. The bright sunlight fell upon the surface and rendered it silver and gold.
Sesshōmaru directed Ah-Un to land upon the sands. Then, he looked up at her and offered his hand — which she pointedly ignored. Her body ached still, but she would rather tear herself open than to suffer his touch. Once again Ah-Un lowered himself so she could easily slide off the dragon's back. She proceeded to unhook her bundle of belongings from the saddle and moved closer to the edge of the water.
The daiyōkai whispered something in Ah-Un's ear, patting the dragon's rump, and the beast launched himself to the sky and began to fly towards the direction from whence they came.
Kagome wondered with some bemusement: was it her imagination, or did Ah-Un really snort unhappily at his master before he flew away?
Then, it was just the two of them left standing upon the sand.
"And now, what?" She asked.
"We wait," he said.
"Wait for…?"
He turned to look at her. If her questions annoyed him, he managed to keep the annoyance away from his expression.
"A ship to arrive and take us through the crossing to the other realm."
