I finished making one of the distress signals and I was currently making the other. The first one was for Bruce and it was already attached underneath his cowl. In order for it work, he would just have to press it and it would send a signal to all the devices

I was finishing connecting mine to the application I made. I had Bruce's tablet on the app. I pressed the button on the small device. The app immediately opened and flashed a red warning that read "Voltess S.O.S". The flashing stopped and it pulled up GPS coordinates where the device was currently located. Bruce's did the same thing but would say "Batman S.O.S" instead.

I turned off the device and the warning went away. Satisfied that it worked, I then began to clean up the work table around me. I set the tablet on the table when I felt two strong arms wrap around my waist.

"I thought you were getting ready to leave?" I asked, already knowing who it was behind me.

"I was but then I saw you hadn't left yet. I thought I'd get one last goodbye in before you did." Bruce's voice sounded in my ear. I felt him pull me closer to him. My back met his armor chest. I could tell from his arms around me that he currently had his suit on.

I closed my eyes when I felt him nuzzle his face to the crook of my neck. His stubble slightly scratched at my skin as he did so. I felt him place a soft kiss on my neck.

"Master Wayne, Commissioner Gordon has the bat signal up." I heard Alfred's voice come from downstairs.

I felt Bruce sigh against my neck which made me chuckle. "You better get going then, Batman." I said as Bruce stood tall again and his grip around me loosen.

I turned around while still being held in his arms. He smiled and leaned down to pull me into a brief kiss. He pulled away and stepped back.

"I'll see you tomorrow." He said as he started to descend the metal staircase.

"Don't get into too much trouble. I just made these signals. I don't plan on getting woken up in the middle of the night the first day we have them." I playfully warned him.

Bruce said nothing. He just looked up at me from downstairs with a smirk on his face. Alfred handed him his cowl and he quickly slipped it on before climbing into the Batmobile. The vehicle roared to life as the hatch closed. The tires screeched as the gas pedal was pressed. The vehicle took off down the road that led to the lakefront exit.

The sound of the engine became non-existent once the ramp had closed back up. Alfred took his usual spot behind all the monitors and put the headset on.

"I'm taking off, Alfred. Night." I called out to the Butler.

"Goodnight, Miss Moser." Alfred said with a smile.

I held the device below my right ear and then pressed the button to deploy my suit. I heard the sound of the device connecting to the vibranium once it surrounded my head. I walked into the elevator and waited for the doors to close.

The elevator doors open to my floor of Wayne Enterprises. I walked out with my phone in one hand and a coffee in the other. Bruce had just sent me a text saying he had just gotten back to the cave. He had stopped some men that worked for Penguin evidently. He thinks they're planning their next move and they may strike in daylight.

"Good morning, Miss Moser." I looked up to see Mr. Fox.

I smiled, "Morning, Mr. Fox." I greeted and put my phone back in my pocket.

"I've heard from the grapevine that you know of Mr. Wayne's excursions." He said as we walked in the direction of my office.

I smirked, "We both found out." I said cryptically.

Mr. Fox chuckled, "I'm aware, which is why I'm here to give you a level two clearance security badge." Mr. Fox handed me a plain white key card.

"This level of clearance allows roof access. You can head up whenever the need for fresh air comes to you." Mr. Fox winked at me as I took the badge from him.

That would make coming and going as Voltess way easier. Bruce must have talked to Mr. Fox at some point and told him our arraignment. I would have to sneak away from work if I picked up on anything on police scanners or on the news.

"Thank you, Mr. Fox." I said as I swiped my ID badge to my office.

"No, Miss Moser. I should be the one thanking you. Have a good day." Mr. Fox said with a smile before leaving.

I dropped three men onto the sidewalk below me while they were tied together by a pipe. I hovered in front of them on my board. I crossed my arms as police officers hurried down the steps of the building.

"The next time you guys plan to escape from jail, fellas. You might want to think about changing out of the orange jumpsuits." I chastised them.

The men gave me glares as officers made them stand up. One officer scratched his head as he looked at the pipe. Two officers escorted the men up the stairs.

"Thanks for the help, Voltess." One officer thanked me. He had short brown hair and green eyes. He wore a suit with a tie but no blazer and his badge was hooked onto his belt. His weapon is in its holster on his right hip.

"It's no trouble Officer…" I trailed off.

"Detective Martin." He answered. He held his hand out. I took his hand and shook it.

"Oh a Detective. I assume you have a reason why you wanted to talk to me." Detective Martin chuckled and pulled back his hand.

"Well my mother use to always say be kind to the people you want as friends. You're one of those people, Voltess. I was actually wondering if you could help me on a case." I raised a brow under my mask.

"What kind of case?" I asked.

"The kind that involves a flightless bird." Penguin. My gaze hardened under my mask.

"You have my interest." Detective Martin smirked.

"I was hoping I did. Let's talk somewhere a bit more private."

Detective Martin closed the door to his office as I walked around the room. He had flies all over his desk from different cases he was working on.

"Can I get you anything? Water, coffee?" I stopped and stared at him. He stopped, "Right, can't because of the whole mask thing. Anyway, this is what I wanted to show you." He dug around his desk before pulling out some photos.

"These guys were caught last night by Batman." He put the photo on the desk.

The photo showed a storage facility. One of the units was open and I could see wooden crates inside of it. Mugshots of the men Bruce apprehended last night as Batman paperclipped to the photo.

"We didn't know these guys were working for Penguin until we found out what they were trying to steal. Like his namesake, this Penguin guy wants anything valuable that resembles our friends from the Arctic." Detective Martin put down another photo.

"This was inside one of the crates." A picture of a gold penguin figurine was lying on top of foam peanuts.

"Another figurine. Just like the jadeite one the mayor had." I said.

Detective Martin nodded, "There's a whole collection of these apparently. There's a total of four of them. The jadeite, gold, diamond, and ruby. They were owned by some guy overseas and he passed away. All of them were auctioned off. That's how Mayor Graham got his."

"Who bought the gold one?" I asked.

"One of Gotham's elite. These statues are expensive. I'm talking millions of dollars."

"The diamond and ruby ones are here in Gotham as well?" I asked.

Martin nodded, "Every single one and Penguin wants these. He can't resist it seems like. The gold one is currently in police custody and I have some guys tracking down the diamond and ruby figurines."

"Why do you need me then?" I asked.

"We have the gold figurine which means we have the advantage. We're going to set up a sting and it would help if we had your help. The guys at the storage facility were heavily armed. If it wasn't for Batman, they would have gotten away. I saw what you can do from your fight with Morozov. We're hoping to lure out the Penguin by doing this." Martin explained.

"What's the plan then?" Detective Martin grinned.

"I was hoping you'd say that."

"Alright, my men are in position. Voltess, you ready?" Detective Martin's voice came through my earpiece.

I stood atop of a nearby building. Storm clouds had formed over Gotham. Rumbles of thunder could be heard distantly. A strong breeze was starting to form thanks to the storm. I could see Detective Martin and his men piling into police cars. One of the cars had the briefcase that held the golden penguin figurine.

"I'm ready, Detective. The sooner the better. This storm is rolling in fast." I informed him.

My body is currently getting that tingling sensation when the atmospheric pressure drops and lightning is nearby. It's as if my body is reacting to the storm itself.

"What's the matter, Voltess? Scared of a little thunderstorm?" I heard Martin's sarcastic voice.

The police cars began to move out and I followed them overhead on my board.

"Don't disrespect storms, Detective. Take it from somebody who got their powers from a lightning strike." Silence on the other end.

"Holy hell…that's how you got these powers? What? Hold on, Voltess. What the hel-!" The phone line suddenly cut out.

I looked down in alarm seeing the car Martin was in got hit.

"Shit!" I flew down as I saw a man in a penguin mask grab the briefcase. "Hey!" I yelled out.

The guy made a dash for the SUV that just t-boned Martin's patrol car. He managed to get in as I got close enough. The tires squealed as the SUV pulled out.

"Martin!" I yelled out and hopped off my board. The said Detective was leaned against the airbag. Blood dripped from his nose and a cut on his forehead.

"Athena, read vitals." I said as I placed two fingers on his neck.

"Heartbeat detected. Calling emergency services" Athena answered.

I looked back at the car pile up that accident caused. How the hell did Penguin and his men know about this already? First, at the mayor's party they didn't take the tunnel where Gordon and his men were stationed. Now this and the only common thing between them is the police department. Unless…

"There's a mole." I whispered the last part out loud. I heard sirens fast approaching us.

I waved down the ambulance. Paramedics ran out from the ambulances.

"It was a hit and run. I'm getting vitals from the survivors. I need to go after that car." I instructed the first responders.

I hopped onto my board and took off in the direction the SUV went. "Athena, pull up any CCTV cameras. Find that car!" I instructed as I shot a bolt to one of the street lights cameras.

Several windows of camera footage popped up on my lenses. I noticed the same SUV running a red light. "There! Athena, what intersection was that?"

"Broadway and 22nd Street." They're heading down to the ugly part of Gotham. Bruce had called that part of town as The Narrows.

I turned a sharp corner on my board and sent more charge to the bottom of my board. The sun was starting to set at this point and lightning was shooting across the clouds. I felt a raindrop hit my nose. Oh no.

I need to stop this car and fast. If a heavy downpour is coming then that means I'm on a time limit. I'll short out as soon as it starts.

I saw the SUV in the distance as it got onto a one way road. I charged electricity into my right hand before shooting the stream in the direction of the car.

The stream hit the hood of the vehicle. It came to a stop thanks to knocking out the engine.

I saw the men in penguin masks scramble to get out of the vehicle with the briefcase. I swooped down and hit one of the guys with my board. I jumped off my board and nailed another guy in the face with a punch. His penguin mask went flying off his head.

BOOM

A loud clap of thunder sounded and rain began to pour down. I saw the sparks on my hand immediately disappear as the rain began to drench my suit. I took a fighting stance and fought back the tiredness I was feeling from being shorted out. It always exhausted me when I would short out.

The guy I punched earlier let out a smirk, "Well, well. Looks like the almighty Voltess has a weakness after all. What's the matter? You can't handle a little water?" He taunted.

His buddies chuckled as they began to surround me. "I can take you guys on with or without my powers." I taunted back.

"We'll see about that, sweetheart. Get her!" I ducked the charge from the guy in front of me.

I caught another guy's punch and twisted his arm. He let out a yelp in pain before I flipped him onto his back. I felt someone grab me from me behind.

I instinctively threw my head back to smack the guy's nose before elbowing him in the gut. I swung my leg around and kicked him in the head.

My head suddenly turned to the side from getting punched. The guy pulled back his hand and shook it in the air.

"What the hell is that suit made of?!" He yelled as he held his hand in pain. It looked to be broken.

"You just punched metal, dumbass." I jumped to the guy and twisted my body in the air. My legs went around the man's neck as I turned my whole body.

The man flipped hard onto his back and I rolled off. I ended the roll in a crouched position. The men were now staring at me much more wearily. They were still getting back up to fight however. The rain was still heavily pouring down and was showing no signs of stopping soon.

"What's the matter fellas? I thought you said you were going to get me?" I taunted them.

I then heard the sound of a car engine behind me. I turned around just in time to see headlights rushing at me. I jumped up just as I felt my right shoulder make contact with the windshield. Pain shot through my arm as I rolled over the roof of the car and landed on the ground. Me and my big mouth sometimes.

I clenched my teeth together and grabbed my shoulder with my left hand out of pain.

"Mel, your right shoulder has been dislocated." Not again. It's always the right one too.

"Did you get her?!" I heard shouts coming from in front of the vehicle. I slowly got up to my feet whilst still holding my shoulder. I can't fight like this anymore. I did the only thing I could think of. I pressed the distress signal just below my right ear before making a break for a nearby alleyway.

No One's P.O.V

Bruce walked into the main hub of the Batcave with a frown on his face. He had his suit on and ready to go. He had texted Melody almost an hour ago and she never responded. The sun had gone down by now yet he hadn't received a status update from her.

"No word from Miss Moser?" Alfred asked from his seat at the desk.

"None. I'm starting to get concerned. She should be back at the warehouse by now." Bruce commented.

"I'm sure she's fine, Master Wayne. She could have gotten held up at work." Alfred reassured him.

An alert went off on all the screens of the Batcave as the flashing red text read "Voltess S.O.S". Bruce's shoulders slumped seeing the message. That was the distress signal and this wasn't a test anymore. This was real.

"Or perhaps I spoke too soon." Alfred said solemnly.

The GPS coordinates then pulled up and showed a blinking red dot. Bruce's jaw clenched as he saw the location.

"She's in the Narrows. Alfred, keep me updated." Bruce said as he slipped his cowl on.

He jumped into the Batmobile and the vehicle roared to life as he started it up. He wasted no time as he peeled the Batmobile out of the Batcave.

Melody's P.O.V

I put my back against the wet brick of a nearby building. My view was being blocked by a dumpster. The rain was still pelting my suit as it fell from the sky. It wasn't pouring as bad as it was but still enough to hinder my powers.

"She's injured! We got her!" I heard one of the men yell.

"Check everywhere! We can bring her in to the boss. He'll want her alive!" I heard another say.

"Come on, Bruce. Where are you?" I muttered under my breath.

I had been playing this game of hide and seek for a couple of minutes now. My shoulder was throbbing at this point. It needed to be set back before it started to restrict blood flow to my arm.

I checked from behind the dumpster to make sure the coast was clear. I didn't hear any of their voices which was a good thing. I started to back up but I had yet to turn around. My footsteps make small splashes on the puddles below me.

I froze when I saw a figure appear, "There you are." I knew that voice. It was the guy I punched earlier. I backed up some more until I felt my back hit the solid brick behind me.

The man chuckled, "Nowhere else to run, Voltess. Don't worry, we won't kill you…yet. You would make a nice prize for the bosses friend." Penguin has a friend? Why would this friend want me specifically? There was something larger at play here. I just don't know what it is.

The man put on brass knuckles as he got closer. I got into the best fighting stance I could while still cradling my right shoulder.

The most I could probably do was a sweep kick but even then I might damage my shoulder even more. I heard a popping sound and then a grapple hooked onto the man's leg.

"What th-" He was interrupted when the grapple pulled back. It caused his face to hit the ground below as he got pulled back.

I leaned my head back against the brick building and let out a sigh. Almost too close of a call there, Bruce.

I heard hurried wet footsteps and I could make out a familiar cowl.

"About time you showed up." I commented as Bruce approached me in his suit.

"What happened?" His voice synthesizer currently on.

"Police set up a sting to lure out Penguin. They asked for my help." I began to talk. Bruce noticed me holding my shoulder. He gently touched it which made me hiss in pain.

"It's dislocated. You have any experience setting back joints?" I asked him.

Bruce nodded, "This is gonna hurt." He turned off his voice synthesizer. I nodded and closed my eyes behind my mask.

I felt and heard the sound of Bruce popping my shoulder back in place. I clenched down on my teeth hard and groaned as I felt a sharp pain radiate down my arm.

I rolled my shoulder and the pain started to go away. "Thanks. That feels so much better." I said out of relief.

"How did this happen?" Bruce asked again.

"Detective Martin tried to set Penguin up but I think there's a mole involved. Penguin's men knew about the plan and caused a car crash. I went ahead and stopped the car but that's when the rain started. This much water makes me short out. I was fighting and winning but then one of those assholes hit me with a damn car to win the fight. I dislocated my shoulder and that's when I hit my distress signal." I could see Bruce's jaw clench.

"They tried to run you over?" He asked angrily.

That's when I remembered. The briefcase.

"Shit." I said and ran down the alleyway. I looked around at the knocked out men. I didn't see the briefcase anywhere.

"Damnit!" I yelled angrily. They must have taken it after I got hit by the car.

"What?" Bruce asked. His voice synthesizer back on now.

"There was a briefcase that was used as the lure. It had another penguin figurine in it. That's what Penguin was after. They must have taken it to him after I got hit." I stated.

"You need to explain everything." Bruce stated.

"Then let's get out of this rain and I'll tell you the whole story." I said. I pressed the button on my control panel and my board came up beside me. I manually picked it up and had it shrink.

"You got here with the Batmobile right?" Bruce nodded and walked off in a direction. I followed right behind him.

He was taking this surprisingly well right now. I thought for sure I'd be getting more of an earful from him. Maybe he's saving that for when we're not out in public.

I was in the main hub of the Batcave looking at the monitors with Bruce. I had deactivated my suit but Bruce was still in his minus his cowl on. Alfred came from the elevator and held out an ice pack.

"Here you are, Miss Moser." I smiled and took the ice pack from him.

"Thank you, Alfred." I said and placed the ice pack on my sore shoulder.

Bruce was watching on the cameras of the events that transpired just an hour ago. He said nothing as he watched my fight with Penguin's men. I noticed his hands clenched into fists when he watched me get hit by the car.

"The manner of how they won that fight speaks volumes of their characters." Alfred said with a hint of disgust in his voice.

"And all of this over a damn golden penguin figurine. Martin told me there's two others in the collection. A diamond and ruby one. Penguin should be looking for those last two now." I commented.

"Then we need to find them before he does." Bruce spoke up.

"I can get with Martin tomorrow. He may have a clue. That and I need to debrief him about the mole in the police's ranks." I volunteered.

Bruce shook his head, "No, you need to lie low for a day." I frowned at him.

"No, I need to do the exact opposite. We have two more tries or maybe less to lure out Penguin. I can lie low after we catch the bastard." I argued.

Bruce turned to me with a hard gaze, "You got hurt today, Mel. Enough so that you had to use the distress signal. Do you have any idea how terrifying that was? I had no idea what happened to you. I just had to hope that I got there in time."

"I've gotten hurt before, Bruce. It comes with the territory. If I lied low after every time I got hurt, I would have no right to call myself a hero. A hero always gets back on their feet no matter how many times they get knocked down." I said seriously.

Bruce looked taken aback at what I said while I could see a proud smile on Alfred's face.

"As I have said before, Master Wayne. I believe you have met your match with Miss Moser." I turned to Alfred with a brow raised. Now I'm just confused.

"I'm lost." I said as I looked back and forth between Alfred and Bruce.

Bruce let out a sigh and pinched the bridge of his nose with his gloved hand, "It's something my father use to say when I was a kid. You didn't quote him exactly but you were close. Alright, just be careful tomorrow. I don't want to see that distress signal pop up again." Bruce warned me.

I rolled my eyes, "You worry too much. I had that fight, the bad guys cheated by bringing a car into the mix. Is it still raining outside?" I asked as I looked at Alfred.

Alfred nodded, "I'm afraid so, Miss Moser." I let out a sigh.

"Water equals no flying back for me." I muttered under my breath.

"You never mentioned that water shorts you out to me." Bruce said as he crossed his arms.

"I told you I can short out in general, but yeah water's my biggest weakness. I hate getting shorted out. I feel exhausted when it happens. Which is why I need to get back to the warehouse. So I can crash into bed and recharge.

Bruce frowned, "You still have clothes here. Just stay the night, Mel. It would make it easier on you and I would feel better knowing you're safe." I let out a sigh.

"I'm too tired to argue. I'll stay here for the night." Bruce smiled and walked over to me.

He put an arm around my waist and pulled me towards him as he leaned down. The palms of my hands laid against his armored chest as our lips met for a brief kiss. He pulled back and used his free gloved hand to cup the side of my face.

"Get some rest, Mel. I'll see you when I get back." He said softly.

"You be careful out there too." He smiled and placed a kiss on my forehead.

"I'll be fine. I'll try to find out more information on those last two penguin statues." He pulled away from me and put the cowl back over his head.

I loosely crossed my arms as I watched him climb back into the Batmobile. The engine started and the Batmobile peeled out from its spot to the exit.

"Alfred," The butler turned to me, "What exactly did his father use to say? I apparently struck a chord." Alfred smiled.

"Why do we fall, Miss Moser?" Alfred asked me.

A small smile formed on my face and I gave a light laugh, "To stand back up." Alfred grinned and nodded his head.

"Well, right now I feel like sleeping for the whole day. Night, Alfred." I said with a yawn.

"Good night, Miss Moser." Alfred said with a smile. He took a seat in his normal spot and I headed for the elevator.
