Chapter 28: Tenseiga
The source of water was not difficult to find. Sesshōmaru only had to follow his nose to reach the spring. But all the while, he thought about the miko. And every time he thought about the miko, he found himself hastening his steps. He was not one to pray, or make wishes, but this time he fervently wished she abide by his request and remain within the barrier.
On the bank of the spring, he lowered himself to his knees to fetch some water. He continuously checked for any aura that was not his, or the miko. Nevertheless, his keen senses did not detect anyone — or anything — around them. Even so, his uneasiness did not abate.
Because he knew, just like everyone living in this realm knew, there was one thing in particular that not even a daiyōkai's superior senses could distinguish.
He shook his head, irate. What were the chances they would encounter that?
His hand paused on its way to dip the flask into the water. A little voice inside reminded him: She is pregnant… with a half-demon child.
His anxiousness multiplied. He capped the flask and slipped it underneath his sash, and began to hurry back. Not even two steps away, he felt the powerful pulsing of the sword at his waist.
He looked down, and saw one of his scabbards glowing green.
It was… Tenseiga. Tenseiga pulsed.
Sesshōmaru had no time to analyze why the sword suddenly made its presence known, as if to gain his attention. He bolted back to where he had left the miko. During his mad dash, her scream ruptured the silence of the forest.
