Chapter 30: Rescue
Sesshōmaru arrived just in time before the creature reached Kagome. As he had feared, the miko had exited the barrier. She had fallen onto the forest floor, and was now backing herself away from the floating head and entrails.
Tenseiga's pounding intensified, as if the sword was begging to be used. Swiftly, he drew the blade from its sheath, and with one smooth swing, he cut the headless body down. Everything — including he head and the attached organs burst into bright green flame that burned it all into ashes.
After the threat vanished, he stared at the sword that had successfully slayed the creature. The afterglow still pulsed along the blade. How miraculous. The creature was a notorious threat to demonkind because not even their elevated senses could detect their presence amongst the masses.
But somehow… Tenseiga sensed it.
The miko was panting. The colour of her irises had deepened nearly into indigo, glazed with moisture. Her hands sank into the earth as she gaped him. Her widened eyes switching back and forth between Tenseiga and his face.
"What the fuck was that?!"
"Miko," Sesshōmaru said coolly. He sheathed Tenseiga back into its scabbard and looked down upon her fallen form. "You are not in the Plains of Musashi anymore."
