Chapter 36: Altercation
"Calm down, Lord Sesshōmaru," the genbu daiyōkai said, still smiling that unpleasant smile. "It was just a joke. If I had wanted a human miko as a mate, I would have gone to the human realm and pick one up for myself, like you did."
He observed Sesshōmaru, though his interest was laced with a hint of malice and mockery.
"Although… you should have stayed in the human realm and resigned yourself to being a big fish in a small pond." His silver eyes lighting up with a quiet glee. "As your father had done."
Sesshōmaru's yōki flared.
"Do not speak of my father." His voice was low enough to be a growl. "Perhaps a lesson is required to stop you from wagging your tongue."
"You? Teach me a lesson?" The genbu daiyōkai repeated. "Have you dogs forgotten your crushing defeat in the previous Pandemonium?"
Sesshōmaru clenched his teeth at the reminder. His hands tightened around Bakusaiga's handle. The urge to kill the other male gnawed at him. Nevertheless, as one of the lords of the empire, he knew the rules, and they were set in stone.
The hairs on his nape stood to attention when he sensed the flare of yōki coming from deeper inside the woods. The genbu lord also raised his head; both their ears were vigilantly listening.
Another small band of army appeared from beneath the shadows of the trees, clad in white armour, the crescent moon crest was bright red on their chest plate.
