"Bruce, I need you to listen to me!" I pleaded as I kept up the fast walking pace of my husband.

"I don't want to hear it, Mel. I'm getting that rock from LexCorp. Rather you like it or not." Bruce said harshly. He was dressed in his suit already and walked to the Batcycle. He threw his leg over and flung his cape out so as not to sit on it.

"That's not even what I'm trying to tell you! If you would give me two minutes to explain without you storming off!" I pleaded again. The engine to the Batcycle roared to life.

"I said not now, Melody!" He raised his voice at me. He released the throttle and my jaw dropped as he sped off.

"Oh you did not just drive off while we're talking! Aaaaghh!" I yelled out in frustration and tightly clenched my fists.

"Fine. I guess if I want to look into something I'll just have to do it myself." I muttered to myself.

"Mel, the encrypted file is ready to view." I heard Athena's voice above my head.

"Thanks Athena, but I'll have to look at that file later. I have some work as Voltess to attend to." I said and tapped my bracelet for the suit to grow around me.

I opened the door that led from the stairwell to the executives floor of Wayne Enterprises. The floor was completely dark except for the red glowing exit signs. I headed straight for Greg's office on HR's wing of the floor.

I placed my armored hand on the handle and sent a quick bolt to undo the lock. I opened the door and took a seat in his office chair. I pointed my finger to the tower and as a single bolt of electricity hit the tower. The monitor came to life and bypassed the password protection and any other firewalls.

I pulled up the employee records on Greg's computer and scrolled down to the last names listed in alphabetical order. I drew my brows together seeing that "Keefe" was clearly missing. Where did his file go?

The light in the office suddenly turned on. I looked up in alarm knowing that I was caught. I relaxed when I recognized Lucius Fox standing at the doorway. He had an amused smirk on his face.

"I don't know if you realize this, Mrs. Wayne, but I'm fairly certain your husband owns this building. No need to be breaking in and sneaking about." Fox teased me.

I let my mask retreat down to my chin, "I'm here as Voltess not as Melody Wayne. I'm keeping this one off the books, Fox." Fox nodded and walked in and let the door close behind him.

"Seeing as this is off the books then how can I be of help, Voltess?" I smirked.

"I'm trying to look up a former employee's file. Wallace Keefe. Greg keeps all employee records on his file but Keefe's is magically gone." Fox walked around to the desk to look at the screen.

"Wallace Keefe, that's the man on the news right now correct?" I nodded.

"Well, you won't find it here. These are current employee records. Mr. Keefe hasn't worked for us in two years. There should be an archive server of all past employees." Fox stated.

"Okay, does Greg have it on his computer?" I asked.

"No," I frowned, "But the CEO on the other hand…" Fox trailed off. I slowly turned to Fox. I gave him a smirk.

"Is the CEO off the clock for tonight?" Fox chuckled and gave a knowing smirk.

"He is now." Fox gestured with his head for me to follow him. I stood up from the desk and followed.

"It seems like you're looking into something quite serious if you had to break into your own husband's company. What's the situation?" Fox made small talk and we headed to his office.

"I'm looking into Lex Luthor. I have suspicion to believe he's behind the bombing that happened at the capitol today." Fox looked at me with confusion.

"You've been out all night. The news has been talking all night long about Wallace Keefe had the bomb hidden in his wheelchair. They named him the culprit and now you're here saying he might have ties with Luthor?" I nodded.

"This is quite serious indeed, Mrs. Wayne. I'm surprised I don't see Mr. Wayne with you. I would think Batman would jump at the chance of nailing a man like Luthor." We turned the corner of the hallway.

I shook my head, "Bruce has tunnel vision for Superman right now. He thinks Luthor is just some weirdo. I tried to explain to Bruce tonight that Luthor is just using Batman for his own needs of taking out Superman but…" I trailed off.

Fox sighed, "He's not listening." I nodded with a tight lipped frown.

"Bruce thinks that Superman could have stopped the bomb in the capitol and chose not to. That, however, doesn't make any sense. The only way a bomb could have happen with Superman standing there if it was purposely hidden from him. I don't know how he could have missed it but he clearly did since the bomb went off." We stopped at Fox's office door. Fox opened the door and allowed me to walk through first.

"It certainly sounds like something bigger is in play here." I stopped for him to walk ahead of me to his computer. Fox took a seat and logged onto his desktop.

I leaned one hand on the back of his chair and the other on the desk. Fox pulled up the archive server and selected the employee records. He scrolled down until he landed on "Keefe". He double clicked the file and Wallace Keefe's information popped up.

"There it is. I can copy it to a thumb drive if you need." Fox offered.

"No need." I pointed a finger and sent a spark to the computer. Holographic texts of the document pulled up on my control panel.

I minimized the hologram, "Thank you for the help, Fox. I won't be in tomorrow morning." I told him.

"I wasn't expecting you to be. Good luck, Mrs. Wayne." I nodded with a smile and headed out the door.

No One's P.O.V

Bruce took a seat and reclined back in the office chair of the Batcave. He just finished all his preparations for his planned fight against Superman. He had crafted weapons and armor plating for the upcoming fight. He had the building picked out where he would lead Superman into his trap. Now all he had to do was wait for night to fall. Then he could light the signal Superman warned him not to respond to again.

Bruce's jaw clenched and his hands tightened into fists. He could finally have his vengeance against the man that caused the death of his unborn child. Bruce had many nights where he dreamed that Melody had gone full term with the pregnancy and had their first child. He dreamed of holding that small bundle in his arms. His dream self always promises the small newborn that he'd do everything in his power to keep the child safe. Then he would wake up and realize that he was only a father in his dreams.

Those dreams kept his anger fueled towards the being known as Superman. The world hailed him as a hero but all he could see was an alien pretending to be human and causing destruction and death everywhere he goes. If Melody were able to get pregnant again then it meant Superman needed to be gone to ensure what happened in the past was the first and last time.

Speaking of his wife, she wasn't anywhere to be seen. He had left her hanging and he was expecting her to be here ready to yell and scold him. She was nowhere to be seen all night and still wasn't home after the sun came up.

"Athena, call Mel." Bruce spoke up to the AI.

"Apologies, Mr. Wayne, but Mel wishes to not be disturbed at this time."

Bruce huffed, "Of course she doesn't." He muttered under his breath. He knew he pissed her off but he didn't realize he made her that mad last night.

"Has the encryption been cracked?" He spoke louder again.

"Yes, sir. Would you like me to pull it up?"

"Yes." Bruce leaned forward as Athena pulled up the file that read Meta-Human Research. Five images showed up on the file. One looked like two 'W's', a 'C', a yellow lightning bolt symbol, a symbol that looked like an 'A', and then…

Bruce's heart dropped seeing a deep purple background with a 'V' in the middle. He moved the mouse cursor and clicked on that one. Several picture files and one video file popped up. Bruce clicked on the video file first.

He watched on screen the moment Voltess had her world debut by stopping the Wayne Tower from collapsing on the people below. It was the cellphone video that originally captured the moment two years ago. Bruce swallowed thickly as he watched the footage. He hadn't seen it since it first aired on the news channel two years ago.

He had never felt so helpless in his life then he did in that moment. He remembered watching from the ground as his wife did something as impossible as holding up half of a building with her powers. She truly embodied the word 'Hero' in every aspect of it. He couldn't have been prouder of her. He also remembers the spiraling depression she fell in after that day. There were days she had no will to leave the bed let alone the house. She refused to eat and it took him and Alfred to force her to keep hydrated. She had lost so much weight during that time. It pained Bruce to see the love of his life hurt in that way. She was a shell of the person she once was.

He thought he'd lost his wife for good. Then one day she got out of bed by herself and made herself a bowl of cereal. She sat at the bar counter of the kitchen smiling and talking with him that morning. He remembered how relieved he felt seeing that Melody was starting to come back and her emotional wounds were beginning to heal. It was an agonizing three months to get to that point.

He clicked off of the video and went to some of the pictures. His eyes narrowed on one photo. Somebody had gotten an image of Melody mid suit up. You could see the black and purple armor scaling up her arm. Lex Luthor knew Voltess' secret identity.

Bruce backed out from Voltess' file and went to the one labeled with two 'W's'. His brows furrowed in confusion seeing Diana pop up on videos. Why did Luthor have a file on her? He clicked on several more videos until he found a photo. It was an old black and white photo that was taken in Belgium sometime in November 1918. There in the photo Bruce recognized Diana in the middle.

"Who are you?" Bruce muttered under his breath.

Melody's P.O.V

I placed my fingers under the window seal and lifted it up quietly. I stepped into the bedroom of Wallace Keefe. There was a police officer stationed outside of the apartment door so I had to take the fire escape. I was currently out of my Voltess suit since people didn't need to see her wandering around.

I quietly looked around the apartment. It was a complete mess. Things hanging from the ceiling, graffiti sprayed on the walls, and everything you needed to make a bomb. I frowned as I stared at the scene. This seemed too staged. According to Keefe's employee file the guy was completely harmless. This was a man that collected model trains as a hobby before that day in Metropolis.

I stepped into the kitchen area of the apartment. I stopped seeing fresh fruit sitting out on the counter. I furrowed my brows looking at the oranges and apples. Why would a suicidal man that planned on blowing himself up have gotten fresh fruit?

"Alright, just five minutes. That's all I'm giving you." My eyes widened hearing a muffled voice come through the front door. The door knob began to jiggle.

I quickly and quietly got out of the kitchen and headed back into the bedroom. I made it into the bedroom as I heard the front door open. I hid behind the bedroom door as I heard the sound of high heels click on the apartment floor.

"Thanks Joe. I owe you one." I heard a female voice say.

"Don't mention it, Lois. Just be quick. You're not supposed to be in there. It's a crime scene." I furrowed my brows. Why is Lois Lane here?

I heard the clicks of her high heels getting closer. I quieted my breathing and stepped further into the corner to hide in the shadows. The clicking stopped as her heels stepped onto the carpet of the bedroom. My eyes followed her form as she wandered into the bedroom. She looked around at the graffiti that decorated the walls.

Lois suddenly paused as she looked to her left. I saw her tilt her head as she stared at the open window. Shit, I didn't close it! She walked to the window and stuck her head out. She looked around before pulling her head back in.

She turned back and looked around the dark room. I saw her start to dig in her purse and pulled out her phone. I heard the click of her unlocking her smartphone. Then she turned on the flashlight. She's more insightful than I expected. She moved the flashlight around until it landed on me in the corner.

A gasp came from her and I quickly put my finger over my lips to signal her to be quiet. Lois covered her mouth with her hand.

"Lois? You okay in there?" I heard Joe call out.

"Yeah, I'm fine Joe. I just saw a huge spider on the wall." Lois lied. That lie would be funny if I was like Peter.

I quietly closed the bedroom door and turned on the light. Mine and Lois' blue eyes met.

"Who are you and why are you here?" Lois asked quietly.

"My name is Melody and I'm here looking into the same thing you probably are. The bombing at the capitol. You don't buy it either right? That Keefe's the one that planned that?" Lois' eyes narrowed on me in interest.

"Why do you not believe it?" She asked skeptically.

"There was nothing for Keefe to gain from blowing himself up. That and I question how someone as broke as Keefe suddenly came into all that money. He lived here yet he had that hundred dollar suit on, brand new automatic wheelchair, and the money needed to sue Superman. He practically got that money overnight. Unless you believe in coincidences." I stated.

Lois let out a smirk, "I'm a reporter, Melody. I don't believe in coincidences in my line of work."

I smirked back, "Neither do I, Lois." Lois nodded her head.

"I have to ask now, it's the reporter in me. Why are you looking into this? You clearly seem to be interested in it." I let out a chuckle. She wasn't going to let this go. This is why I don't hang out with reporters to begin with. They always want details.

"I'm someone like your friend." Lois gave me a quizzical look.

"My friend?" She asked, confused.

"Oh right, sorry. I meant boyfriend. Superman." Lois now visibly paled and her mouth opened and closed. Stammering to find her words.

I let out another light laugh, "Relax. Let me show you." I tapped on my bracelet and allowed the vibranium to scale up my arm and stop just below my chin.

Lois put her hand in front of her mouth and took a step back. Her face had complete shock written all over her face.

"You're her. You're Voltess." She whispered and removed her hand from her mouth.

"Yup. I've been looking at Lex Luthor since I met him at his party with my husband. Something was off about him and my hunch was correct. He's been taunting the Batman of Gotham City since Superman introduced himself to the world." Lois frowned.

"Taunting how?" She asked.

"Luthor was forwarding Keefe's victims relief fund money from Wayne Enterprises to himself. He would write messages and send them back intended for Batman's eyes to see." Lois frown grew deeper.

"Who exactly are you? And I mean you without the suit on." Lois asked.

"Melody Wayne." Lois' eyes widened.

"Bruce Wayne's wife." I could see the cogwheels spin in her head, "He's Batman…isn't he?" I nodded my head.

"Lois! You need to leave!" I heard Joe call out. I retracted my suit back to my bracelet.

"Meet me in the back alley. We'll finish our talk there." Lois nodded her head and we passed each other. She left through the bedroom door and myself through the window.

"So you're saying this was Luthor's plan all along. Pitting Batman against Superman." I nodded as Lois paced in front of me. She stopped and pointed at me.

"That explains why wherever Superman went, Lex wanted death to follow. To show Batman that he needed to be taken down." I grimaced.

"That didn't help but that's not the main reason why Batman is so hellbent on taking down Superman." Lois looked at me confused.

"There's a separate reason than all of those people dying? What could be worse than that?" A solemn look grew on my face.

"That day two years ago…when Superman showed himself and fought against Zod. You saw the news, I stopped that building from collapsing." I started out.

"Everyone saw that. Voltess is just as much of a hero as Superman is. You have no idea how much Clark would talk about you. How he wanted to meet you. There was somebody out there just like him. You made him not feel so alone." I looked at Lois in almost disbelief. That's why Superman said he had hoped we could have been friends when he met. That's why he looked so sad and disappointed when I said no to him.

"Being a hero comes with a price. A heavy one at times. That day was one of them for me. I managed to save the innocents on the street but I couldn't get out of the way in time. I got hit and it was pretty bad. I went to the hospital where I found out that I was four weeks pregnant." Lois picked up on the past tense.

"Was?" She whispered.

"The blow I had taken from the debris of the falling building was too much. I lost the baby and my husband has blamed Superman for the miscarriage since. I've tried to tell him several times that it was not anyone's fault for what happened. He's too blinded by his anger and his need for vengeance to listen to me." I explained to Lois.

Lois' heels clicked against the pavement as she walked to me. She grabbed my hands in hers.

"I am so sorry that you and your husband had to suffer the loss of your own child. I can't even begin to imagine how that must have felt as a mother. But I need your help to stop your husband, I can't let him kill my boyfriend." Lois pleaded with me.

I gave her a reassuring smile, "I wasn't going to let that happen regardless." An appreciative look spread across her face.

"Thank you, Mel." She said softly. I nodded and pulled away. I walked to the end of the alley where my motorcycle sat with the helmet sitting on the seat.

"I'm going to try and talk reason into Bruce one last time. Expect my call either way. Fair warning, he'll probably shut me out again. He's been good at that recently." I told her as I grabbed my helmet and threw one leg over the seat.

Lois nodded, "And I'll call you if anything happens on Clark's end." I fit the helmet over my head and turned on the engine of the bike.

I kicked back the kickstand and released the throttle. I picked my feet up as the bike shot off. I pulled out of the alley and turned to get to the right side of the road. I ignored the honks of the cars behind me as I swiveled between the other cars in the road.

"Athena, call Alfred." I instructed the AI. I could hear ringing in my left ear through my earpiece.

"Yes, madam?" I heard Alfred's voice.

"Alfred, is Bruce at the penthouse?" I asked as I passed another car.

"I'm afraid you just missed him."

"Do you know where he went?" I asked a follow up question.

"To the same place he always goes to when he needs to think." Alfred advised.

"Wayne Manor." I answered. I leaned on the bike as I headed to take the opposite exit of the highway than I was expecting.

"I'll call the staff and inform them of your arrival, madam." Alfred informed me. The line ended and I released the throttle more. The engine roared as it increased its speed.

I slowed down the bike as I rounded the circular driveway of Wayne Manor. Kids of the orphanage that were playing outside stopped what they were doing. I killed the engine and put down the kickstand. I took off my helmet as the kids began to run over. I had been here many times over the past five years. Most of these kids knew who I and Bruce were.

"Cool ride, Miss Melody!" One of the boys, Travis, said with a grin. I smiled as I got off the bike. I took the keys from the ignition and put them in my pocket.

"Try it out." I said and tossed the helmet to Travis. He caught the helmet and looked at the bike in awe.

"Awesome, thank you!" He said excitedly.

"Mrs. Wayne," I turned to see one of the orphanages staff approach me, "I just got off the phone with Mr. Pennyworth. He told me you'd be arriving. Mr. Wayne is at his usual place. I'll make sure the kids don't do too much damage to your bike."

I nodded my head, "Thank you." I stuffed my hands in my leather jacket pockets as I walked.

I jogged up the stairs and opened the door to the manor. I walked by some kids as they ran and chased each other outside. The manor was always like this when I visited. Full of sounds of kids at play. I turned down the hall as my boots made heavy footsteps against the marble flooring.

I opened the double wooden doors that led to the main living room area. I immediately saw Bruce's back facing me as he stared at the unlit fireplace.

"Are we going to be able to talk like adults or are you going to storm off again?" I asked and closed the double doors behind me.

Bruce looked over his shoulder as I walked closer to him. His gaze turned back to the fireplace.

"I'm getting close to being the same age as my father when he died. I'm thirty-seven now, he made it thirty-nine. This may be the only thing I do that matters." Bruce spoke up.

I frowned at that, "How can you say that? For eleven years you've been Batman. You've put away so many criminals behind bars and have saved countless others. You've saved the City of Gotham not once but twice. What you do matters. As both Batman and Bruce Wayne." I defended him.

"That's just it. Criminals are like weeds. You pull one up and another grows in its place. Gotham will always be in trouble no matter how many times I try to save it. This is about the future of the world, Mel. It's my legacy." He stared up at the Wayne Family crest above the fireplace. I remained silent and he continued.

"You know my father sat me down right here. He told me what Wayne Manor was built on. The first generation made their fortune trading with the French. Pelts and skins. They were hunters." He finished.

"Bruce, you're not hunting rabbits or deer. You're hunting down a man." Bruce looked at me with a hardened gaze.

"He is not a man, Mel. He pretends to be one but he isn't. He's just as much of an animal as my ancestors hunted. He needs to be put down before he hurts anyone else." Bruce took two strides and stopped in front of me.

His hardened gaze turned into a pained look. He took out one hand from his coat pocket and gently placed his palm on my stomach.

"And before he takes away another child that never had the chance to see the outside world. I want our future child to be born into a world where somebody like him can't hurt them. This world won't be safe until then." Bruce said softly.

I placed my hand on top of his and squeezed it, "Bruce, the world will never be safe enough. I've seen it time and time again. What makes the world safe to raise a child is people like Superman. People like me and people like you. Bruce, I am begging you to please try to see it from my perspective. There is something more going on behind the curtain. Normally, you would be able to see it but you are so blinded by your vengeance that you can't see what's really happening." Bruce pulled his hand back and began to walk away.

"You just can't keep walking away when the conversation isn't going how you'd like to, Bruce!" I yelled at his retreating back.

Bruce paused and barely looked over his shoulder, "I don't want to argue, Mel. This is happening and nothing can stop me. Not even you." My shoulders slumped and I watched numbly as Bruce walked through the double wooden doors.

I was snapped out of it when I felt my phone buzz in my pocket. I took it out of my back pocket and unlocked the screen. It was a text from Lois.

'S.O.S LexCorp'

My eyes narrowed on the text. She used minimal keys. Was she in distress?

I looked up from my phone and glared where Bruce was standing just moments before. That's it. I've had it. Melody Wayne might not be able to stop this but Voltess sure as hell can.

I locked my phone and put it in my pocket as I stormed out of the room. My hands clenched into fists as I walked to the exit of Wayne Manor. I think it's about time Voltess paid a visit to Lex Luthor.
