The blaring of rain hammering outside unsettles me. Cordelia hasn't come home yet. I used my powers to clean the house rapidly. Now I'm just sitting by the window staring outside. She probably is at the store staying out of the rain. I probably could go get her. I can safely get her here! I know I can!
I slip my black and white shoes on. I'm nervous to go out. What if she gets upset that I went outside by myself? Or in the end the storm is to much and I get blown away? What if she never comes home because of this? That last thought is terrifying! I must go get her! I creak open the entrance and slip out instantly closing my eyes from the harsh wind. Slowly flying up I figured it wasn't that hard to fly in. I zoom off right away!
I get to the store and stand on the counter asking, "Have you seen an old lady around here?"
"AH!", the clerk screams as she turns around.
"Is that a no? Her name is Cordelia and she is sweet and kind and cheerful!"
"U...Um...Cordelia? Sh..She left earlier."
"What?", I stare at her dumb founded. She left? But she didn't come home, "Thank you!"
"W..Welcome..."
I jump off the counter and run outside to blast off. She must have sought shelter on her way home! I'll find her! I got to or else...I'm going to worry myself to death. I fly around searching every store on the way home. Nothing. What do I do? I go back to the regular store then slowly start to fly up the street looking everywhere.
"Have you seen Cordelia? She's an old woman who is sweet, kind, and cheerful. She's very caring!" is what I say to people who are trying to walk in the streets. My responses are broad:
"Y...You're flying?!"
"What's with the ears and tail?"
"No, Sorry Kid"
"W..What are you!?"
"I saw her but not where she went."
"Get away from me!"
Once again most were about me and flying. People are instantly afraid or questionable to the people that are different. Everyday life. Huh? What's that little girl doing? I walk up to her and force a smile.
"Hello. What are you doing?", I ask politely.
"Hmmm?", She looks up at me, "Hello. I'm watching the rain!"
"Oh, How nice! The rain is very peaceful! Always can think with it around!"
"Agreed!"
"Um...Have you seen an old woman walking by here? Her name is Cordelia. She's sweet and kind and cheerful. Very caring!"
"Hmmmm...Oh yeah! An old lady passed by here earlier! She went that way!", she pointed down the road, "on the other side of this road!"
"T..Thank you!", I hug her then fly off down the road looking carefully. Where is she? Father, I want you home. I have this horrible feeling in the pit of my stomach.
What was that? I fly back to look down an alleyway. Everything is dark from the brick gray looking walls, the dark brown dirt, and all the way back to the undefined black back. I look down to what I caught a glimpse of. This. Isn't. I slowly walk towards it. Getting farther and farther into the darkness. The rain is blurring my vision and each drop feels heavy. I get close enough to see what it is so I stop. Tears stream down my face. Cold rain, cold tears, and my own cold heart. I can't breathe. What's going on? I don't understand. I let out a big scream while more tears flood my eyes. Now I really can't see.
"NO!", I scream, "NO! WHY?! I DONT UNDERSTAND! WHY!? WHY?!"
"Why" is the only word I can get out. I don't understand. I'm confused. I'm scared. I'm absolutely upset. I'm so sad. I clench my chest above my heart. No. No. No. The shopping bags catch my eye. I crouch down and shuffle through them to discover a note.
"Dear Boomer,
I got you candy but I also got you this necklace. I hope you like it! It's dark and mysterious like your past, but it's beautiful and breathtaking like you and your future. I want you to look at this realizing that no matter how different you are, how your past is, and how you feel never can decide your fate. You may be troubled but you can bloom into the prettiest flower. Only you have the power to control what happens in your life. Also that I love you! I'm so happy to have you part of my family!
Sincerely,
Cordelia"
I'm starting to hyperventilate. Screaming and crying. Why did this happen? I pick the box next to where the note was up and hug it close. I stare.
"AAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHH!", I jump turning around to see a woman dropping an umbrella, "HELP! A BOY KILLED SOMEONE!"
What? No! I...I didn't do it! The running sound of footsteps start and get closer. I'm scared. I didn't do it. They'll send me back to Townsville. They'll send me to jail. Doesn't matter what I say and do. "POLICE!" No! I'm scared! Stop! I'm scared. I'm scared. I blast off into the sky as I see people enter the alleyway. Can't stop crying. Why? Who did this? Now I don't have a home again. Now I don't have Cordelia. I'm alone. All alone. Landing on a hillside, I sit clutching my knees to my chest.
The box! Opening it up reveals a black string. Pulling it up lets a black rose dangle in front of my face. I can bloom into the prettiest flower. The prettiest rose, no matter...how messed up my mind is. Clipping the necklace in place around my neck causes me to cry harder. Cordelia thought I was a rose. She loved me for who I was, and now she's gone. Everything is gone...again.
