"Family vacation huh? That's pretty cool. Um. Why didn't you mention you had a son when we first met?" America asked.
She led us through the training halls of the Kamar-Taj. Bruce and Dick were both interested in watching the students train with their magic.
"Because I didn't know I had one until I got there." I pointed my thumb back at Bruce, "He adopted Dick when I was gone." Bruce glanced at me briefly before focusing back on the students.
"Are you able to do that yet?" Dick asked America.
America stopped and looked at the students before us. She gave a sheepish smile and shrug.
"It's harder than it looks. Multiverse portals? Easy, got that down." She pointed to the magic, "Magic portals? Way harder for me. Watch."
She took her stance and deep breath. She held up her hand with the Sling Ring on her fingers. She began to move her hands and I could see sparks form but no portal was opening.
"I'm getting a lot more sparks than I was two months ago. Wong and Strange made it look so easy." America informed.
"We have had several years of practice. You will get there someday, America." I turned my head hearing Wong's voice.
America turned around and immediately bowed as Wong approached. Wong turned to me and gave a smile.
"Mel, it's good to see you again. I see you brought company." He greeted me.
"Nice seeing you too, Wong. This is my husband, Bruce, and my son, Dick." I introduced them.
"It's an honor to meet the family of Mel. My name is Wong and I am the Sorcerer Supreme of the Masters of the Mystic Arts." Wong introduced.
"Sorcerer Supreme? What does that mean?" Dick asked.
Wong smiled, "It means I lead all of the sorcerers that train here and that are stationed at their sanctums." Wong informed me.
"There's three sanctums around the world. The sorcerers will help defend against outside threats. They were a great help when we needed them to help fight against Thanos and the Chitauri army. I met Wong when I first got brought back. He's the one that created the portal that took us straight to the battlefield." I followed up and gestured to Wong.
"So there's more than just the Avengers?" Bruce questioned.
"The sorcerers, the Asgardians, and a group that calls themselves the Guardians of the Galaxy. There's probably more than just that. They're all allies of the Avengers." I informed him.
"All of us played a role in defeating Thanos that day. Even Mel here. I witness Voltess go head to head against Thanos. She aided in holding him back with Captain Marvel." I grimaced at that memory.
"Right before he used the Power Stone on me. That thing was used on me twice. I don't want to go for a third. I like not having the feeling of my body being ripped in half." Bruce stared at me wide eyed.
I put my hand up before he could talk, "The stone is gone before you get concerned. All of them are. Anyway, Wong, would you be able to open a portal for us back to the Avengers Compound?" I asked the man.
Wong nodded, "Of course. How long will you be staying here?" He asked.
"Two weeks. School starts back up for him after that." I gestured to Dick.
"Then I will return for you at this time in two weeks." Wong stated. He held his hands up. He moved one hand in a circular motion and the sparking orange magic immediately formed a portal.
"That's what it's supposed to look like?" Dick asked America.
America nodded, "Yeah. Those portals come in handy for long distance travel. Or saving people. Mel's been saved by one when we first met. Wong used it to save her from being squished underneath a one eyed tentacle demon monster that got sent after me." Right. That thing.
"Don't remind me." I muttered.
Dick stared at me wide eyed, "You've fought a tentacle monster?!" He exclaimed in awe.
"You didn't mention this before." Bruce asked curiously.
"I had other things on my mind when I went back. Then everything with Steppenwolf happened and then the League business. I never had a chance to tell you." I stated.
I walked through the portal Wong created, "Come on, I'll show you where we're staying for the next two weeks." I gestured to them to follow through.
Bruce walked through first then Dick followed right behind. I turned to Wong.
"Thanks. Do you know if Stephen is in the New York Sanctum?" I asked Wong. I wanted to introduce Bruce to him and the two of them met. If it wasn't for Stephen, I wouldn't have been able to get back in the first place.
Wong shook his head, "Strange is currently off-world. Something happened that required his assistance in the multiverse." Wong explained.
My brows raised at this in surprise, "Wow. Okay. Wish I could see him so I could thank him for his help again."
Wong smiled, "I'll see what I can do, Mel. In the meantime, enjoy your stay with your family." He stated and then closed the portal.
"Whoa. This is where you lived, Mel? With the Avengers?" I turned back hearing Dick's voice.
My eyes immediately found the large 'A' stamped on the building. I nodded my head.
"Yeah…this was my home." I looked back at Dick and Bruce, "Let's drop off our stuff then how does a tour sound?" Dick grinned.
"That sounds awesome." Dick answered.
"Then follow me." I said and began walking to the building.
I opened the double doors to the living quarters section of the Avengers building.
"Sam? Bucky?" I called out.
I hadn't seen either of them around the building while we walked through. It was still early in the morning and normally they'd be here if they were.
I walked down the hallway and stopped at the large common room. No sign of either of them here. They must be off on a mission.
"What is this place?" Dick asked. He set down his duffel bag on one of the armchair recliners.
"This is the living quarters for the Avengers. Down the hall there," I pointed to the adjacent hallway, "is where the rooms are located. The Avengers live under the same roof. It's easier that way when we get sent on a mission." I explained.
"I take it the people you were calling for are Avengers?" Bruce asked. He set both duffel bags onto the leather sofa.
I nodded, "Yeah. Sam's the one I told you about. He took on the mantle of Captain America. Bucky doesn't really go by an alias anymore. Sam, Bucky, Banner, and I are the only ones that really stayed here anymore. The other Avengers have their own homes. I don't think they're here right now. I didn't see anybody on the way up here. Well, Banner could be in his lab downstairs." I stated as I walked around the common area.
"Can I see your room?" Dick asked suddenly.
I smiled and gestured with my head, "Sure, that's not where you're staying though. You'll get your own room." I told him.
"Sweet." Dick grabbed his duffel bag and followed me down the hallway. Bruce followed behind him after grabbing out bags.
I walked further down the hallway until I stopped at a door. There were two plaques on the side of the wall. The first plaque was a large golden square with a 'V' and lightning bolt going through it. The symbol used by the Avengers that meant "Voltess". A name plaque was just below it that read "Melody Moser".
"Moser?" My eyes glanced over at Bruce hearing his amused tone of voice.
I gave a playful smirk, "Well technically in my world Bruce Wayne doesn't exist and I'm not legally married here. My legal name here is still Melody Moser." Bruce returned the playful smirk. I pulled down the door handle and pushed open the door.
Dick walked into the room first, "Well I'm here now. We can change that." I chuckled and followed Dick into the room.
My room hadn't changed since I left the past two months. My desk still sat in the corner with my computer and chair. The large king size bed still sat on the opposite side with two nightstands on either side. The small nook where a single arm recliner and end table stood with a floor lamp next to it. The attached bathroom and walk-in closet just adjacent to the bed. The same decor still covered the place. Some plants, paintings, and some movie posters.
"I thought it'd be cooler." I raised a brow at Dick. Bruce walked over to the recliner and set both our bags on it.
"What did you think it would look like?" I asked slightly amused.
Dick shrugged, "I don't know…something more interesting than…this." Dick said and gestured to everything.
I rolled my eyes, "Sorry to disappoint but this use to be my space away from everything Voltess. If you were wanting to see some Avengers gear that's downstairs." Dick suddenly turned one-eighty.
"Can we go now?" He asked impatiently.
"How about we get settled first?" Bruce countered.
Dick gave a huff, "Fine. Where am I staying, Mel?" He asked.
"Last room to the left at the end of the hall." Dick nodded and walked off.
"He's really excited." I commented.
I felt arms wrap around my waist. I smiled as I leaned back against Bruce.
"We both are." Bruce said gently. I turned around in his arms and placed my hands flat on his abdomen.
"Really?" I mused with a playful smile on my face. Bruce returned the same look. His hands slid down and rested his hands on my hips.
"I finally get to see where my wife comes from. We have two weeks and I want you to show me everything." He stated.
"That's a lot to go through. What do you want me to show you first? There's a lot of things here that might give you an idea where to start for the League." Bruce shrugged his shoulders.
"True, but we're staying here. We can always see it later. I was thinking of meeting some of your friends first." I raised my brows at that.
"There's not many in town right now. Sam and Bucky are probably out on a mission right now. Rhodey is typically out doing some kind of recommissions mission for DC. As far as I know with Scott he's doing his own thing with his daughter. Clint is back in Iowa. Spiderman is busy enough handling the small crime around New York. Stephen's apparently off-world right now in the multiverse and I don't even know where Banner is right now. I'm not sure which friend you would be able to meet." I said with a grimace.
That's the thing about being an Avenger. We were all busy with our normal lives. Sure Sam and Bucky go out together on missions representing the Avengers but that's it so far. Everyone else is doing their own thing. Including me when I was here. I was focused on the crime around the immediate area. Occasionally, I would go with Sam and Bucky on official Avengers business but that was rare.
Bruce gave a smile that said he knew something I didn't, "That's not what I was thinking when I said 'friends'. I do want to try and meet the other Avengers but the people I was referring to are more so family to you." I gave him a puzzled look for it finally dawned on me.
"Pepper and Morgan." Bruce grinned and nodded his head in confirmation.
"I may not be able to meet Tony but I can meet his family. Afterall, Morgan's your goddaughter and in turn makes me her godfather by marriage. They're your family too, Mel." I looked over at the alarm clock on the nightstand. It was getting closer to ten now.
"Pepper's probably at work right now and since it's summer Morgan should be with her. We can head to Stark Industries once we're unpacked." I stated.
Bruce leaned down and captured me with a loving kiss. He separated the kiss and gave me that look he only gave me when we're alone. A look that held nothing but love and affection.
"Then we better get started." He answered gently. I nodded and pulled away from and towards the bags. The sounds of a zipper filled the air as it pulled the metal back. I began grabbing things and setting where they would be for the next two weeks.
I walked through the glass doors of Stark Industries. The main lobby was pretty empty except for a few people in suits either walking in or leaving the building. My feet walked over the logo of Stark Industries that spread across the lobby.
I headed for the reception desk. Even with her head down I recognized Maddy. She has been the front receptionist for years now. Behind the reception desk were three framed photos that lined up. They were pictures of the former and current CEO of Stark Industries.
The first picture was a photo of Howard Stark in his later years with a plaque under the photo that read "Howard Stark. Founder and Former CEO". Tony's picture was right after his father's with his plaque reading "Tony Stark Former CEO". Pepper's photo was next with a plaque reading "Pepper Potts CEO". My eyes lingered longer on Tony's framed photo. The familiar smirk of Tony stared right back at me.
I stopped right in front of the desk. Maddy still had her head down as she typed away on her keyboard.
"Can I help you?" She asked while keeping her eyes on the screen.
"I'd like to speak to Ms. Potts." I answered.
"I'm sorry but you need to schedule an appointment to speak with Ms. Potts. I'm afraid her schedule is completely full so you-" Maddy cut herself off when she finally looked up. Her mouth dropped and her eyes went wide seeing me. I gave a smirk and waved my fingers at her.
"M-Miss Moser! I am so sorry, I didn't recognize your voice! Um, Ms. Potts is in the middle of a board meeting currently. I can send her a message that you're here while you wait." Maddy quickly collected herself.
"Actually, if we have to wait. You mind giving us some security passes? I'd like to show these two around." I gestured to Bruce and Dick.
Bruce held his hand up in a polite wave. Dick was busy currently looking around the lobby. Old inventions of Howard and Tony's had decor in the front area. Maddy looked at Bruce and Dick and looked back at me with a look of mild confusion.
"Um, I can give you some generic security clearance passes. That's the best I can do with the new protocols, Miss Moser." I raised a brow at that.
"New protocols?" I repeated with a monotone voice.
Maddy's eyes flickered over to Bruce and Dick again before back to me. She gave a tight lip smile and simply nodded her head. I clicked my tongue and sighed as I eyed Bruce before going back to Maddy.
"Is Happy in?" I questioned.
"Yes but-" I turned to the right and made a brisk walk to the security room not far from the front reception.
"Miss Moser!" I ignored Maddy as she rushed over as fast as she could in her heels, "I understand you use to work here but not anymore. You can't just walk in!" She tried to stop me.
I grabbed hold of the handle and easily used my powers to break through the coded lock. I turned the handle and quickly swung the door open. Happy jumped at his desk and looked at me and Maddy wide eyed.
"I'm so sorry, Mr. Hogan. I tried to stop her." Maddy apologized.
Happy looked at me wide eyed while I gave him a smirk, "Hey Hap. What the hell are these new security protocols you put in place now that prevents me from touring the facility?" Happy's mouth opened and closed before he stared at Maddy.
Happy pointed to me, "The new security protocols don't apply to Mel, Maddy." He argued. I glanced over my shoulder to see Maddy. She looked completely gobsmacked.
"But you said the new protocols apply to any tourists for the new tours." She said quietly.
Happy gave her an estranged look, "Yes, for normal civilian tourists. You do realize Mel is an Avenger and was Tony's best friend. She's family to the Starks. The new protocols do not apply to her. You know what? Forget it. Go back to your desk. I'll personally give them the highest level security clearance passes." Happy waved her off.
"Yes sir. Sorry sir." Maddy said quietly. She turned around like a dog with her tail between her legs as she headed back to her desk.
Happy sighed and looked at me, "You couldn't have given me a heads up, Mel?" He questioned with a look of disdain.
I smirked and leaned against the doorframe with my arms crossed, "I gotta keep you on your toes somehow, Hap. You know me." Happy rolled his eyes. He opened his desk drawer.
"Yeah, I do know you Mel. Very well. How many?" He asked. I held up three fingers. He grabbed three security passes before standing up from his desk.
He threw me mine and I backed away from the door as he walked out. He looked at the security lock and gave me an unamused look.
"Did you really have to fry my lock?" He questioned as he walked over to where I left Bruce and Dick.
"Happy, if I'm not testing your security products then I'm failing at my job." I joked with him.
Happy stopped and pointed at the lock, "That is a million dollar security lock you just fried." I looked back over at the lock.
I looked over at him with raised brows, "That was only a million?" He nodded and I shrugged my shoulders.
"I've broken more expensive ones then that." Happy rolled his eyes at me and continued walking.
"I have not missed this about you." I gave a shit eating grin.
"Aw, I missed you too Hap." I said with a chuckle.
Bruce had an amused look on his face as Happy approached him, "Does she always give you a hard time?" He asked.
Happy gave a blank stare at him, "All the time. It's kind of her thing. She drives me up the wall and I put up with it as usual." He handed the security pass to Bruce. Dick walked up and Happy handed his pass.
"Sorry, not the greatest introduction. Happy Hogan." Happy introduced and held out his hand.
"Bruce Wayne." Bruce introduced and shook Happy's hand.
Happy's eyes widened and pointed at Bruce, "You're him…" He muttered and stopped shaking Bruce's hand.
Happy pulled back his hand and looked at me, "This is him." He repeated.
I nodded my head, "That's him." I stated with a smile on my face.
Bruce raised a brow at me, "I take it by his reaction you've talked about me?" I rolled my eyes.
"Of course I told my friends about you. They're the only ones that know I'm married. The rest of the world thinks Voltess is still single." I informed him.
"So um, who's the kid?" Happy asked and gestured to Dick.
Bruce ruffled Dick's hair who quickly swatted away his hand, "This is Dick Grayson. He's our son. I adopted him when Mel was here." Happy looked completely taken back.
He turned to me once more, "You have a son now?" He questioned.
Bruce and I shared a look, "Yes and another one on the way." Happy's eyes widened.
"No way…you're…" He trailed off. I simply nodded my head with a smile. Happy grew a large grin on his face.
"Oh my god. Congratulations!" Happy said gleefully. I chuckled as Happy hugged me.
"Thank you Hap." I replied and hugged him back.
"Mr. Hogan?" Happy pulled back to see one of his security officers calling him.
"Judson from the fifth floor is asking if you can take a look at their cams. One of them is on the fritz again." The officer stated.
"Huh yeah, I'll be right there." Happy answer. The officer nodded and walked off.
"Call me if anyone gives you any trouble, Mel. Congratulations again you guys. I'll catch up later. It was nice meeting you." Happy said as he began to back up.
I gestured with my hand, "Follow me. I want to show you something that I was thinking we could bring up to the board for Wayne Enterprises." Bruce raised a brow at that.
"And that is?" He trailed off.
I gave a cheeky smile, "You'll see." I stated and walked over to the elevators.
"So how do you know him?" Dick asked as he slipped the security pass lanyard over his head.
"Happy was originally hired as one of Tony's bodyguards. But after Tony became Iron Man, Happy mainly became his chauffeur. He tried to hold onto the idea he was a bodyguard, but Tony always corrected him saying that he was now Happy's bodyguard if anything. Tony at some point promoted him to Head of Security here to make him feel more important." I informed him as I pressed the elevator button.
"Yet you keep breaking his security systems with your powers." Bruce chastised me.
I gave a smirk in response, "I tell him I'm his tester. He says he hates it but I know he secretly loves it. He swore to me that one day he'll make a security program that not even I can fry. He hasn't done it yet." I stated as the elevator doors opened.
I walked into the elevator and held the doors open as Bruce and Dick walked through. I then selected the 'B' button for the basement level of the building.
"The basement? What's in the basement?" Dick asked incredulously.
I gave a wink, "You'll see."
"You remember when you told me Wayne Enterprises tried their hand at clean sustainable energy?" I questioned Bruce as we walked down the hallway of the basement.
"The very same thing that was a essentially equivalent to an Atom Bomb? Yes, I remember that vividly. Fox says he won't touch another one with another ten foot pole." Bruce stated.
"I saw the blueprints after you told me about it. That was intentional design that Talia al Ghul put in there intentionally. It was a long con with what she was doing for those three years. Now, I told you that Stark Tech is years ahead of Wayne Tech. They still are, by the way, and this is a major reason why. Stark Industries created clean sustainable energy back in the 1970's. That's how far advanced they are and it's still in use today." I stopped in front of a door.
I scanned the security pass and the light turned green. I opened the door and my ears were immediately greeted with the humming sound of the large Arc Reactor running.
"This is what Howard Stark, the inventor of this, named the Arc Reactor. This entire building is off the main power grid. This same device also runs the Malibu, California branch and the Avengers Compound has another one at the basement level running everything." I stated.
Bruce looked up at the Arc Reactor with awe. He turned his head to me, "You're sure this can't be turned into a bomb?" I chuckled.
"The original model from the 1970's? Yes. Tony had to turn it into a bomb when fighting his first bad guy. This one? No. Tony worked through several kinks to make sure it couldn't be turned into a weapon. If we can convince the board, Wayne Enterprises could get started with making their own version of the Arc Reactor. I wouldn't start out with powering the entire city of Gotham but just Wayne Tower and other branches for a start." I stated.
"Don't you have a smaller scale of this that powers your suit?" Dick asked while looking at the Arc Reactor.
I smiled and nodded, "I do. That's how Tony powered all of his Iron Man suits. I draw the pure energy that comes from the Arc Reactor to keep myself charged at all times. It's a bonus that it powers up my electricity at the same time." I stated.
I turned back to Bruce, "So what do you say? You want to help me convince Fox to give clean energy another shot?" I asked.
Bruce gave me a smirk, "Just as long as you promise not to betray me and turn it into an atom bomb." I gave a mock gasp.
"How did you know?" Bruce chuckled and rolled his eyes.
"Funny, hun. Very funny." He murmured as he pulled me to him and planted a kiss on my cheek.
"So what else is there?" Dick asked. He had a look of slight disgust as the affection that most kids give their parents at this age.
"I can show you the Stark Labs where I use to work." I suggested.
"That sounds cool." Dick agreed.
"This is where I worked before I got snapped." I stated as I walked around the perimeter of Stark Labs.
I stopped behind one of the glass walls and watched several scientists in lab coats walking around. I pointed to the back room.
"That was my office. I'm not sure who took my position after I got snapped." I stated as I glanced at Bruce and Dick.
"Oh…my…god." I heard a voice behind me say. I turned my head to see a young man in his twenties. He had sandy blonde hair and green eyes.
"Y-you're Melody Moser. You're Voltess. Oh my god. I'm meeting an Avenger." The man said in a shock tone. I fully turned to him. I looked at his ID badge. My brows raised reading the ID badge. Spencer Halsey Head of Technologies. This guy is my replacement?
I pointed at him, "You're the Head of Technologies? You replaced me after the snap?" I asked him.
Spencer shook his head, "Oh no, I'm not the original guy! I just recently took the position a couple months ago. I'm an MIT graduate. I was actually one of the freshman students you and Mr. Stark presented the Binarily Augmented Retro-Framing or-"
"B.A.R.F. Yeah that acronym was bad on Tony's part. That product never saw the light of day to be sold. Tony kept it as a personal therapy for himself and other Avengers. Well I say it never saw the light of day but Quentin Beck thought it was a great way to create a fake Avengers level threat." I commented.
"I read about that. Quentin apparently was fired after his invention and claimed that it was wrongful termination." My gaze hardened at Spencer.
"Do me a favor and don't believe everything you read, Halsey. Beck was a narcissistic man that failed to read the fine print when he signed his contract with Stark Industries." I remembered Quentin Beck all too well. After all, I was his boss when he worked for the company.
Flashback
"B.A.R.F.? That's what Tony turned my life's work into! This is a revolutionary breakthrough that has an unlimited amount of applications! And Tony turned it into a self-therapy machine and now you're telling me that he's benching it completely?! It's never seeing the light of day! Moser, you have to agree that it is insane!" Beck raised his voice as he pressed his finger against my desk as he spoke.
I raised my hands up in defense, "I don't make the final decisions of which inventions get the green light for products to be sold and which ones Tony keeps for personal use, Beck. I just manage and head the teams that make the product. That's all. I'm sorry that you feel this way but my hands are tied." I told him calmly.
Beck rolled his eyes and scoffed, "Oh please. You could do something if you really wanted to, Moser. You're an Avenger alongside Tony for god's sake. He'd listen to you if you convince him to at least sell my invention. It's the least he can do after ruining it!" My eyes narrowed dangerously at Beck.
"Beck, I'm going to ignore that comment you just made because you're one of the best inventors I have in the department. You know as well as I do that we at the Technologies Department are the driving force of this company. We have our own vision of the creations we make but Tony is allowed to change the primary function of that creation as he sees fit. It's his company, not ours." I reminded Beck.
Beck shook his head, "I refuse to accept that, Moser. That is my invention. My life's work. I won't see it get shelved and never see the light of day! Give me back my invention and I will go somewhere else." I stood up from my desk.
"You know you can't do that, Beck. It's in your contract that you signed with Stark Industries. Any invention you make while employed here, you signed away all rights to it. B.A.R.F. is not yours to take. It belongs to Stark Industries and therefore it belongs to Tony." I warned him.
Beck leaned his fists on my desk and leaned closer to my face, "Oh yeah? What are you going to do about it, Moser? Hm? You gonna zap me if I take it?" He whispered dangerously at me.
I glared at the man, "No. We'll go the legal route. We would have you by your balls on breaking your contract. You take B.A.R.F. out of this building and I will have you arrested so quickly that it'll make your head spin." I threatened him.
Beck scoffed and shook his head, "You know, I gave you the benefit of the doubt at first." My eyes glanced up slightly as I saw Tony on the opposite side of the glass wall.
He frowned seeing the confrontation between Beck and I. I watched as he silently walked over and quietly opened the glass door. My eyes flickered back to Beck. He was in his own world at the moment and didn't even realize I turned my attention away from him.
"What doubt?" I pressed him further.
Beck smirked, "Oh come on. I know you're not blind to the media rumors out there. Hell, they get brought into here. I hear about it all the time, Moser. You and Tony are close, too close. Everyone knows Tony's history as a playboy. Him and Pepper are done which leaves the door wide open for you now. I wonder, is that how you nailed this cushy job to begin with? Huh? Everyone always says how you must have been a pretty good lay for Tony to give you this job with no contest. I finally see you for what you really are, Moser. Bill and Victoria were right. You're just Tony Stark's favorite bitch." My eyes turned dark as my jaw clenched.
"No, that's your job actually Quentin." Beck's eyes widened hearing Tony's voice behind him.
Beck whirled around to meet the stern and angry gaze of Tony. His face visibly red with anger.
"M-Mr. Stark I-" Tony held up his hand.
"No, you're done speaking. It's my turn now. This is how you talk to your superior?" Tony gestured to me, "Sparks is your boss and contrary to your belief. Sparks had to prove herself to me for this job like the other two applicants for this job. She proved herself and that earned her this job. It was not given to her because she would not let me just give to her even though I wanted to."
Tony then pointed at Beck, "You were hired Quentin because Sparks came across your resume and came to me personally practically begging to hire you on the spot. I agreed with her assessment and told her to pull the trigger. You Quentin Beck, as you so eloquently put it, are Sparks' bitch. Hell, you're my bitch because you work for my company. Your project would have never even lifted off the ground if it wasn't for my company." Tony took a step forward and took off his glasses. He pointed the glasses at Beck.
"I will not stand by and listen to you degrade Sparks in front of me. Quentin, you just showed me how unhinged you really are if you can't man up that I didn't greenlight your invention. What were the other two names you just mentioned by the way? Bill and Victoria?" Tony opened the glass door once more.
"Bill! Janice! Come over here! Now, quickly!" Bill and Victoria quickly scrambled over to my office. I walked around my desk and stood just to the side of Beck. Bill and Victoria stopped just in front of Tony.
"Yes, Mr. Stark?" Bill asked. He and Victoria looked confused as they looked from Tony to me then to Beck.
Tony gestured to the two of them, "You can thank Quentin here for throwing you under the bus just now. You two have apparently been believing false rumors the media has been spreading recently about Sparks and I around the lab. Am I correct?" Bill and Victoria looked like two fish out of water with their mouths constantly opening and closing.
"T-Tony, y-you got it all wrong. I've been with this company since Stane was still here, remember? I'm loyal to this company, to you." Bill stuttered.
Tony pointed at him, "You know Bill, I recall you were one of the applicants that tried to go for the Head of Technologies position when it opened. I gave it to Sparks over you. You're going to tell me you don't feel bitter about that whatsoever?" Bill bit his lip and his eyes downcasted.
Tony nodded his head, "That's what I thought. What about you Victoria? Hm?" He asked Victoria.
Victoria eyed me before opening her mouth, "I-I don't know what Beck told you but I would never." I crossed my arms as I stared at Victoria.
"Really, Snow? Whenever there's drama happening here I always find you to be the source of it. You treat working here like it's your second chance at high school." I quickly called her out.
Tony nodded his head. He took a breath and opened his mouth as he gestured to Beck, Bill, and Victoria.
"I don't tolerate employees bad mouthing each other, much less their boss. Especially when it's as brazen as what I just heard come from Quentin's mouth. You three get your stuff and get out. You're fired." All three of their mouths dropped. People in the lab stopped what they were doing and stared.
"Y-you can't be serious!" Beck exclaimed and raised his voice.
"Dead serious." Tony reiterated, "Clean out your desks. I'll have Happy escort all three of you off the premises."
The three of them stared at each other with wide eyed doe looks, "Well? Don't just stand here. Get out!" Tony said sternly and waved them out of my office.
Bill and Victoria walked out with their heads held down. Beck looked angry. He pointed at Tony.
"You can't do this to me, Stark." He argued.
Tony tilted his head and gave him a smirk, "I can and I just did." Tony replied back smoothly.
Beck tightened his hand into a fist. He pulled back his arm and went for a punch. I quickly caught his arm and twisted it behind his back and slammed him up against the wall.
"Stupid move, Beck." I growled at him and bent his wrist at an awkward angle.
"Security!" I heard Tony yell out as Beck hissed in pain. Seconds later two security guards came running over. I let go of Beck and each security guard took Beck by one of his arms.
"Escort him off the premises. If he refuses to leave, call law enforcement." Tony instructed the security guards. Both guards nodded and practically began to drag Beck out of my office.
"You can't do this to me, Stark! You need me! You'll regret this!" Beck yelled as the guards dragged him out of the lab.
Tony turned to the other scientists that were all staring, "Anyone else have an issue with Sparks here?" He questioned everyone else. Many people shook their heads.
"Good. Get back to work. I'm not paying your salaries to stand there and gawke." Tony reminded them and stepped back to let the glass door close.
Tony turned to me, "You alright, Sparks?" He asked in a gentler tone.
I nodded my head, "I'm fine, Tony. I have pretty thick skin. I would have handled that even if you weren't here." I informed him.
Tony smirked, "I know you could have, Sparks. I have no doubt in my mind."
I rolled my eyes, "So what brought you by here in the first place?" I asked him.
"Well, I was coming here to ask if you wanted to go to Shawarma Palace with me? I'm getting a craving for their Lamb Pita." I chuckled. Of course it would be food for why Tony left his executive office upstairs.
"The Iron Man special you mean?" Tony winked at me with a smile. Tony and I frequented Shawarma Palace so often that the owners made our custom orders into actual menu items. The Iron Man and Voltess specials.
"Alright, food sounds good right now. Lead the way." Tony grinned and opened the glass door. He gestured with his hand.
"After you, milady." I rolled my eyes but with a smile on my face. I walked by him and Tony quickly followed after me. I didn't miss the glares from Bill and Victoria as they packed up their desks.
End of Flashback
Spencer's eyes were wide, "Oh wow. That wasn't mentioned at all." He said meekly.
I gave a tight lip smile and raised my brows, "Well the truth couldn't exactly come out since Tony was dead when Quentin started his plan and I was no longer employed with Stark Industries." I stated. I could feel Bruce's gaze on me. I had told him about the rumors the media spread about Tony and I in the past.
"Please, do not bring up that mess again. We just wrapped up the final lawsuit not even four months ago, Mel." I grinned hearing that familiar voice. I turned my head seeing Pepper walking over to us.
"Hey Pep, long time no see." I greeted her.
Pepper returned my smile, "It's good to see you again, Mel."
