The Last Day..
Tonight was a full moon.
Meaning Klaus would most likely want to break his curse tonight.
Elena would die tonight.
But just as important Tyler would be going through his second transition… without me.
Bonnie was going to stay held up in the old witch's house until the very last second when Klaus wouldn't expect it and then we'd strike.
I didn't waste any time, I showered, got dressed and went straight to the boarding house where Elijah, Stefan & Elena were already gathered.
"Klaus is a vampire born of a werewolf bloodline. The curse has kept his werewolf side from manifesting. But if he breaks it. He'll be a true hybrid." Elijah explained as I walked into the boarding house, upon hearing the door close Damon bolted down the steps coming to a stop beside me.
"Then why are we letting him break the curse today? We can kill him with the twitches right now." Damon replied, it's nice that he believes in me but if it'll be easier on Bonnie & I to do it while he's weakest then that's what I'm gonna do.
"It's adorable you're a serial killer who finds time to watch Disney movies." I smiled at Damon who side eyed me before huffing in annoyance.
"The entire point of them splitting the magic was to keep them both alive, I'm not understanding why we still need to let Elena die before we do anything." Damon argued, he definitely raised a good point but I think he forgot the fact that no matter how good I claim to be, Bonnie & I are still novice at best witches. Being on steroids but still shit at your sport doesn't make a real difference except you're risking your life right?
"Alright, how do we break this curse?" Stefan asked, attempting to steer the conversation somewhat away so Damon doesn't explode on the spot.
"Well the ritual is relatively straightforward." Elijah explained just because the purpose of the curse was a lie doesn't mean any other details changed." The ingredients, so to speak, you already know."
"The moonstone." Stefan said. I actually wasn't sure what happened to that tiny stone that I should have just kept.
"A witch will channel the power of the full moon to release the spell that's bound within the stone. After that Klaus, being both vampire and werewolf, will sacrifice one of each." Elijah explained, my heart started to race. If Klaus wanted to break the spell tonight, and werewolves were hard to come by, how the hell did he plan on finding one on such short notice.
"Oh fuck." I mumbled, I pulled out my phone and quickly sent Tyler a text telling him to stay as far away from town as he possibly could. I just prayed he actually read it and didn't just delete everything.
"Something wrong?" Elijah asked, I'm sure my heart was beating so loudly it was deafening to them.
"I'm just really glad Tyler isn't in town." I replied, shuddering."It would just play straight into Klaus' hands."
"Indeed."
"Where do I fit into this?" Elena asked steering the conversation back to ritual. She already knew she had to die so I'm not even sure what the question was for.
"The final part of the ritual." Elijah says turning and grabbing a box off the shelf, I tried to get a peek at it but it was closed. What ever it was was hidden inside some ancient looking box." Klaus must drink the blood of the Doppelganger to the point of your death."
Elijah popped out the box revealing the jar that I'm guessing was his elixir. I reached out to touch it, the witch in me wanted to inspect it but Elijah gave me a look telling me not to.
"And that's where you come in." Elena finished as Elijah pulled the jar from the box so we could all get a look at it. Some witch crafted this potion for Katherine 500 years ago, if it actually worked then that witch was very impressive.
"This is an elixir that I acquired some 500 years ago for Katerina. It possesses mystical properties of resuscitation." Elijah explained, I was in awe staring at it. I'm sure it tasted like battery acid but to effectively craft something like that? I'm getting a witchcraft boner.
"So I'll be dead?" Elena asked, she really meant it when she said she wanted Elijah's help. But I knew Damon would be the one to somehow fuck it up.
"And then you won't." I said I couldn't stop staring at the potion, it was making me want to sit down and start crafting things up too.
"That's your plan? A magical potion with no expiration date?" Damon asked, I rolled my eyes at how ignorant he was being.
"You accepted that magical ring with no expiration date."
"I trusted Emily." Damon retorted.
"And we trust Elijah." Elena retorted back just as sassy as Damon. He threw his hands up annoyed before storming out the room. "Do we know if Klaus has everything he needs to do this? Does he have a werewolf?"
"Klaus has been waiting 1,000 years to break the curse. If he doesn't already have one, my guess is he'll have one by tonight." Elijah replied solemnly. He was very stoic and hard to read but I've noticed he's just a bit less stiff talking to me than he is with the others.
Stefan walked outside to go check on his brother leaving me alone with Elena & Elijah. For someone who could die tonight Elena was very calm, it was one of the rare moments I really admired her.
"Elena, you deserve so much more credit than I give you." I said, Elena crossed her arms rubbing her sides she looked almost skeptical."You're willing to potentially die, to help Elijah. And to protect us. I respect you for it."
"Thank you." Elena gave me a small smile, I smiled back but paused when my phone started to ring. To stop getting my hopes up that Tyler was calling me every time my phone rang, I changed his ringer to something completely different.
"I've gotta take this." I pulled my phone out of my pocket and walked into the kitchen, my fingers were literally shaking when I pressed the button."Tyler."
"Alicia, hey." He sounded sheepish, almost like he wasn't sure if he should be calling me or not.
"I've been calling you, is everything okay?" I asked, my worry for his well-being outweighed the anger. It was just nice to actually hear his voice again.
"I'm fine, listen I didn't get a chance to read your message before I got here. My mom fell and she's in the hospital." He explained, my heart started to pound again and my hands got sweaty.
"You're back? Like you're in Mystic Falls?" I stammered out, his mom happening to fall on the same day Klaus needs a wolf wasn't a coincidence.
"Yeah. Why do you sound like that?" He asked, I gulped he had no idea what was going to happen to him if Klaus got his hands on him.
"Stay there, I'm on my way." I didn't wait for him to reply, I hung up the phone and bolted straight out the house. I'm sure at least one of the people with enhanced hearing ease dropped and would fill the others in.
I sped all the way to the hospital, the rules of the road were literally the least of my worries right now. I needed to make sure Tyler was safe and keep him that way.
I didn't bother talking to the receptionist. I could find Tyler quicker than the time she was gonna waste having to pull his mom's information up.
Part of me wasn't sure if I was running this fast to make sure he was safe or if it was because I really did miss him. I shoved the door open to the 4th floor and my jaw dropped as I saw him standing in the hallway, he was looking through a window most likely staring at his mom.
"Ty?" I called out, his head turned and his worried look evaporated immediately and was replaced with a small smile.
We both started walking down the hall meeting each other halfway. I checked him over for injury while he laughed.
"I'm fine."
"I didn't know that." I hissed, slapping his arm."How's your mom?"
"She's fine, she's banged up but she's okay." He replied he couldn't help but to glance back down the hall toward her room."You wanna come say hi? She said she hasn't seen you since I left."
"I was avoiding her." I shrugged." I didn't even want to go anywhere near your house because I knew you weren't there. I didn't mean that stuff I said to you."
"I know,I brought it on myself. I'm sorry things played out how they did." He replied, he put his hand on my lower back and guided me toward Carol's room. "If I could do things over I would."
"Me too."
Tyler pushed Carol's door open and she smiled when she saw us, if it wasn't for the hospital gown I wouldn't have thought anything was wrong with her.
"Miss Lockwood." I leaned down and hugged her, she clung to me which made me feel awful for avoiding her."How are you feeling? What happened?"
"I'm fine, my head hurts but I'm okay." She replied, pulling away from me." I don't really remember what happened, I think I tripped over my shoe coming down the stairs."
"How long are they keeping you?" I asked, I scoffed when I felt another source of magic. It was awfully similar to Tyler's.
"I should be home tomorrow, they just want to monitor me overnight to be safe." She replied with a small smile."You two can go catch up, I'm gonna take a nap."
"Okay mom." Tyler started to lead me out into the hallway but paused. Which confirmed my suspicion for sure.
"I told you I was going to kill her next time I saw her right?" I whispered lowly, I didn't need Carol overhearing that I too was a murderer.
"Not here. My mother is literally right there." He whispered back pushing the door open, I couldn't stop the sneer that formed on my face the second I made eye contact with her.
"I told him not to come." She said, shoving her hands in her pockets. As if keeping him away was going to make me less likely to snap her neck.
"If you know what's good for you, you'll get as far away from me as possible. Out of respect for Tyler I won't kill you here. But if I see you outside it's fair game."
"Am I supposed to be afraid of you?" She challenged, Tyler put himself between us.
"Considering one bite from those teeny tiny teeth won't kill me? You should be. I can just snap my fingers like I did your little friend and you'll be gone." I smirked, I'm sure if Damon could see me right now he'd be grinning with pride from ear to ear.
"Alicia." Tyler warned, grabbing my arm and pulling me away from Jules. We stopped down the end of the hall by the elevator while she still lingered by Carol's door."She's helping me with everything, please try and be nice."
"Considering I still don't know what she put Caroline through? Or the fact she was willing to die to take my boyfriend back to Florida? Or the fact she tried to shoot me? Mason is down in Florida, so she can die and it wouldn't make a difference." I growled, Caroline & Elena would verbally make you cry and but I was that friend who was willing to whoop your ass. I hoped she heard everything I said."Listen, you are not safe here. Take her and go back to Florida."
"What's going on?" Tyler asked, alarmed."Is it Stefan & Damon?"
"You remember how gung ho your people went when they thought we were trying to break the curse?" I paused for a second because that was another reason for me to beat Jules' ass."Well someone is trying to do that tonight and to do that, they need to sacrifice a werewolf. So take her and go."
"Alicia."
"Take her and go Tyler! I'm trying to help you. I will look after your mom I promise." I pleaded, Tyler looked at me with sad eyes.
"We won't have enough time to make it back and chain ourselves up."
I had no idea exactly what to do about Tyler, Jules I could care less about. I thought about cloaking him and sealing him somewhere again but if by some stroke of luck they'd found him and managed to take it down..
I swung by Elijah's place instead of heading straight back to the boarding house. Yes it was dumb all this moving around I was doing, especially since drawing Tyler out was probably a two birds with one stone type thing. He'd come running for his mom, and I'd come running to protect him.
Before I could knock on the door Elijah had already opened it open, wordlessly he moved out the way inviting me inside.
"Alicia? What brings you here? I was going to come back to the boarding house before nightfall." Elijah replied, closing the door.
"Klaus lured Tyler back in town." I replied no reason to beat around the bush."I think it was also his way of luring me out."
"If I know Klaus he doesn't plan on killing you." He replied, I raised an eyebrow confused. "He would've killed you both that night, he wouldn't just kill one of you."
"You think he wants something from me?"
"You and Bonnie are stronger than any witch he could get his hands on. He killed one to ruin the chances of the spell being able to kill him, anybody with the least bit of sense would take you." Elijah explained, I chewed my bottom lip not expecting that response in the slightest. I was preparing for today to also be my last day living.
"Should I take Tyler and just run?" I asked,I was already mentally packing my bags."I'm not going to be anybody's witch."
"No, he's going to die tonight." Elijah said confidently, I relaxed a bit. A part of me doesn't believe that we'll get rid of Klaus tonight. Everything about it just felt too easy."Just have your friend go where he'd normally go on a full moon and use your family's sealing spell."
"Alright."
"I unfortunately have a bit of bad news however." Elijah said, his eyes went to his bookshelf where a very familiar box sat."Damon decided to give Elena his blood, which renders this useless. I'm sure you are in possession of the Martin's grimoires, there has to be something in one of them."
I glanced at my phone and checked the time, it was currently 3pm which meant nightfall was only a few hours away. I sent Bonnie a text so she can start looking through the grimoires that she had for something.
"Can I ask you a question?" I asked, sitting down on the couch. Elijah nodded, taking a seat beside me."What is it like when you're daggered? Are you just asleep?"
"It's like a restless sleep, you're just surrounded by darkness. I haven't been daggered for as long as my siblings so I can't fully describe it." He answered.
"That sounds miserable." I shuddered at the thought of being alone in the dark for years and years at a time. What probably felt like a blink to them was actual life times for us.
"I imagine after awhile it is, you'd do better asking my siblings if that were possible." Elijah replied with a slight frown.
"You'll be reunited with them." I gave him a small smile, placing my hand on his shoulder."I feel it."
"I do not see it happening any time soon unfortunately,Alicia."
Elijah & I chatted for a little while longer before, I headed off to the boarding house, Elijah should be not too far behind me since he had a few more things to take care of.
"Tia, we've got a problem." Damon said, I slammed my head into the steering wheel. I knew I shouldn't have not taken Tyler with me.
"Tyler's the wolf he's using isn't he?" I asked pulling my car off to the side of the road, there wasn't any point in doing any driving when I was gonna have to reroute to get to him.
"He's also taken Caroline." Damon said there was a long pause afterwards almost like he knew I was going to flip my shit and was giving me the time to do so.
"What the fuck." I hissed, tossing my phone on the floor, I punched my steering wheel and banged my head against the headrest before calmly reaching down and putting it back to my ear."I'm back."
"You finished with that tantrum?" He asked, He didn't sound too worried about the whole thing so I guess he had some sort of plan.
"Yes."
"I know where they are, are you coming on a rescue mission with me?" Damon asked, my immediate thought was to say yes but I had something else I could do that would help.
"You wouldn't happen to know where I can find Klaus would you?" I asked, I knew I couldn't kill him myself but if he's anything like Elijah then I can bargain with him.
"He's living at Rics. Why? What are you about to do?" Damon asked. I had no idea where Alaric lived but I could surely figure it out.
"Plan B, go break them out." I replied hanging up, I sent Elena a text asking for Alaric's address which she instantly replied to, I turned my car around and headed there.
I wasn't sure if Klaus would even be at Alaric's, Elijah was always out and about and seldomly inside his apartment, and I couldn't see Klaus as the type to just sit around somebody else's apartment. I mentally thanked Elena. She was sweet enough to give me the exact apartment number.
"Fingers crossed I catch him or his witch." I mumbled to myself putting my car into park, I felt around with my magic but only felt one energy which was probably Katherine, I remember Damon saying she was being held hostage.
I took the elevator up to the floor and frowned, if it was Katherine hopefully she could point me in the right direction, cause I'd be bummed if I wasted time doing this when I could've helped Damon instead.
"Katherine." I purred knocking on the apartment door, I frowned when a minute or two went by without her responding. So I reached for the door, surprised it was unlocked. I let myself in and there was Katherine sitting on the couch looking bored.
"Do you all have a death wish?" She asked standing up and smoothing out her outfit. She strolled over to the coffee maker and pulled out the glass part.
"I take it Damon was just here?" I raised an eyebrow and crossed my arms. She looked up and stared behind me, a flash of horror passed her face before she looked back at me.
"Hide." She ordered trying to push me into the other room.
"I'm here for him." I replied, swatting her hands away, she made a face before going back to her coffee."I might really have a death wish."
"Clearly." She hissed, pulling out the coffee beans."This will probably be the last thing you drink so I'll make yours extra sweet."
"Aw, maybe they were wrong about you." I smiled walking over to the couch that Katherine previously occupied. I pulled my phone and keys out my pocket and put them down on the coffee table in front of me as I sat down.
My heart started to pound as I saw the doorknob slowly turn before opening, in walked a man with short blonde hair. He looked nothing like Elijah which made sense given what he'd told us, the only similarity I could see was he too was impeccably dressed.
"Little witch." Klaus purred, I was on edge the minute he spoke. Like Elijah he definitely sounded hot but with the reputation they had, it's best to be on edge."How's your sister?"
"Pretty dead." I shrugged. Klaus started to say something else but started to sniff the air, his eyes went toward Katherine who was still making coffee behind me.
"What have you been doing?" Klaus asked, either he didn't deem me a threat or he knew Katherine was somebody he really needed to keep an eye on.
"Making coffee, do you want some?" She replied aloofly, before I could even react he was on the other side of the room choking her.
"Well fuck." I said shocked, I watched as he compelled her but she gave the same exact answer she gave seconds ago. Ah, he must have either smelled Damon or he smelled vervain, the nose on him was miles better than everybody else's either way.
"Take off your bracelet." He ordered, Katherine took the piece of jewelry off and put it into his hand. The sun was still out so I already had an idea of what was coming next.
"I'm gonna go to the bathroom." I wasn't sure how Klaus felt about manners so I made sure to say exactly what I was doing so he didn't shoot over here and choke me out next. I noticed him stiffly nod, I'm actually mildly offended that he was more interested in Katherine than he was me.
I barely made it inside the bathroom when Katherine started screaming, the scent of burned flesh filled the apartment almost immediately. The screaming finally stopped and I came back out, Katherine was curled up in the corner. For someone who typically looked so strong she looked weak as hell right now.
"Guess, I was wrong." He shrugged, he gave me a cheeky smile before turning back to Katherine." I need you to do something for me."
"And what's that?" Katherine asked, still hunched over in the corner.
Instead of answering her he finally turned his attention to me, I awkwardly stood behind the couch. I immediately regretted my decision and I should've just went with Damon, me bargaining might mean I already knew something which was bad for myself & Katherine.
"What exactly brings you here?"
"I wanted to make a deal." I held my head up, I was scared shitless but I intended on keeping up the illusion I was brave and confident in the face of danger.
"What could you possibly have to offer me?" He tilted his head studying me.
"You're gonna need a new witch aren't you?" I mimicked his head tilt and if I would have pondered over my words a little bit longer, I wouldn't be getting strangled like Katherine.
"Why would I need a new witch? What are you implying?" Klaus asked with each word his grip got tighter on my neck.
"Incendia." I managed to stammer out, if Katherine could easily handle a simple aneurysm then I knew for a fact Klaus would shrug that shit off like it was nothing. Everybody knows fire was any vampire's biggest fear, I smiled a bit when his free hand caught on fire. He released his hold on me and quickly put out the flames, I expected him to be annoying but he grinned at me. The two dimples in his cheeks looked adorably evil.
"Smart."He complimented taking a step back from me."If I allow you to be my witch, what do you want out of it?"
"I do believe I'm owed a dance." I smirked, I could hear Katherine suck her teeth from the other side of the room while Klaus smirked."I don't want any harm to happen to anybody else I care about, Elena handing herself over to you isn't enough?"
"I believe it's more poetic if she dies with people she cares for, the blonde vampire and the werewolf boy can keep her company on the other side." He shrugged, my eye twitched a bit. Klaus was an actual asshole.
"You're turning down a witch with the power of 50 dead witches for poetry?" I asked incredulously."Maybe I was wrong."
"You're just a tad under useless without your sister." He replied, I knew what he was doing he wanted to piss me off. I am more valuable than any witch he can find on the street.
"Funny, cause without my family there wouldn't be a you." I shot back, I knew I should keep Elijah a secret but without compulsion there's no way for him to know where I got that detail from.
"Don't get high and mighty cause you know your family history love, Ayana may have been my mothers mentor but she didn't help with the spell that made us vampires."
"Because she had sense unlike your mom." I scoffed, Klaus looked amused before he rushed over and grabbed me the next thing I knew everything went black.
"Hey Alicia?" I heard a voice calling and shaking me, I groaned slowly opening my eyes."Wake up. If I let you get yourself killed, I'll never hear the end of it from Bonnie."
"Damon?" I mumbled, we were in the backseat of my car."What happened?"
"Got your head bashed in, Katherine gave you some blood." He explained, I wanted to question why Katherine did it but decided against it."I've got good news and bad news."
"What's the bad news?" I asked slowly sitting up, despite the fact I was healing my head still felt like shit.
"He's got Jenna, he figured we were working together." He explained, something about him looked off."But the good news is Caroline & your boyfriend are okay."
"Are you okay?" I asked slowly sitting up." You look off?"
"He bit me."
"Tyler bit you?" I asked shocked, Damon rolled up his sleeve and showed me his arm. I gasped staring at the angry ugly mark on it."How? He changed that fast?"
"I guess having a pack has its perks." Damon shrugged he made an Oh face."He's gonna use Jules instead I thought you'd like to know that. And his witch is dead."
"I'll celebrate later, we've gotta figure out how to save you." I climbed over the backseat and into the drivers seat."Nobody left yet right?"
"Elena's already with him, Bonnie's doing a locator spell right now since you were you know unconscious." He replied, staying where he was in the back.
"Okay, we're picking up Bonnie and Elijah and showing up to the ritual right?"
"Yup. But do you mind stopping at mine first?" He replied getting comfortable, I looked at him one more time in the rear view mirror. As much as I wished bad things would happen to him, I didn't want him to die.
"Hey, Damon." I said after a long stretch of silence, he looked like he was starting to sweat which wasn't a good sign for somebody who couldn't get hot.
"Yeah?"
"After this is all over, I think we should definitely be friends again." I gave him a small smile. I wasn't sure how well he'd be able to hide the fact he was dying but I appreciated that he didn't mind being honest with me about it.
"If I don't die."
"You won't die." I replied. We didn't say anything else until we arrived at the house, there really wasn't much else we could say. I know we both were thinking of the exact same things, how to sabotage and or stop the ritual.
