A few days later, things in the kingdom went as usual. However, as for the Lobster Mobster and Da Shrimp, the two were still hanging around the outskirts, trying to develop another scheme. But unfortunately, the two weren't having much luck.
"Hey, Boss. Shouldn't we come up with something to take over?" asked Da Shrimp. "I mean, it's getting kinda boring sitting out here."
"Shaddup! Can't you see I'm thinking!" snapped The Lobster Mobster. "You can't rush someone with my scheming genius, see? When I come up with something. I'll-!"
Then, The Lobster Mobster saw something. Swimming by was a couple led by the Seahorse Herald.
The male had a light purple tail, short brown hair, and wore a red banner with a yellow star. The female had blonde hair running past her cheeks, a blue seashell bikini top, and pushing along a pink stroller.
But what caught The Lobster Mobster's attention was the pink pearl necklace that she wore around her neck. "Hey! Look at them pearls!" he spoke, his eyes turning into sand dollars. "Wow, I've gotta have them pearls!"
"But, boss, you never go anyplace classy enough to wear pearls," Da Shrimp said obliviously.
The Lobster Mobster took off his hat and smacked Da Shrimp. "I don't wanna wear them, you barnicle brain!" he snapped. "Those things are worth a fortune, see?! And if we can get them, we could make a mint by selling them, see?"
"O-Oh, yeah. Sure, boss," Da Shrimp dizzily replied. "I knew that."
The two then silently followed the couple as they entered the city.
The couple soon arrived at King Triton's throne room, and the seahorse herald made the announcement.
"Announcing the Count and Countess of Clambakersfield!"
King Triton then swam in and greeted the couple warmly. "Ah, my good friends. How long has it been?"
"The last time we saw you, your hair was still red," smiled the Count.
"And you were not yet a father," said King Triton as he glanced over at the babies. "Allow me to offer my congratulations."
Just then, Ariel, Garret, and Flounder swam in.
"Ariel, is that you?" gasped the Countess. "The last time I saw you, you were no bigger than a minnow."
"It's great to see you, too, Ma'am," said Ariel. Then she whispered to Garret and Flounder. "That's the Count and Countess of Clambakersfield. They're old friends of Daddy."
The Countess then looked across to Garret and Flounder. "And who might you two be?" she asked. "Friends of Ariel's?"
"Yes, we are. I'm Flounder," greeted the tropical fish.
"And the name's Garret," the boy introduced. "A pleasure to meet you."
The Countess then noticed Garret's tail. "Oh, my. I've never seen a mertail in those colors before," she said.
"Neither have I," said the Count. "How very intriguing."
"Thank you very much," Garret spoke shyly. "I've been getting that a lot lately."
"Now then, Ariel, why don't you and your friends come and look at the twins?" offered the Countess.
Ariel and her friends did so, looking in the stroller. Two babies were sleeping peacefully, both of them having the same colored tails as their parents and short blonde hair while wearing seashell bonnets. The only difference was that one of the twins' bonnets was pink, and the other was blue.
"My, what perfect little angelfish," Ariel marveled.
"What are their names?" asked Garret.
"Oliver and Olivia," replied the Count. "Oliver on the right, and Olivia on the left."
"Tonight, I shall personally conduct the rite of passage for your mertwins," King Triton said to the Count. "But first, how about a tour of Atlantica? It'll be a great opportunity to catch up."
"Oh, my! Sounds like an ocean of fun!" said the Countess.
"But we have no babysitter," pointed out the Count. "Where will we find one under such short notice?"
"I'll take care of them for you, Mr. Count!" offered Ariel. "That way, you won't have to worry."
"Oh, Ariel, that would be wonderful," the Countess thanked gratefully.
But King Triton was stern. "Ariel, babysitting is hard work," he warned. "And that's just with one baby."
"Oh, come on. I can do it," insisted Ariel. "They'll be no trouble at all."
"Famous last words," said Flounder.
King Triton was still hesitant, but he agreed. "Very well then, Ariel. We'll leave the twins in the hands of you and your friends," he said. "But make sure you keep a watchful eye on them, understand?"
"I will, Daddy," promised Ariel.
King Triton then left along with the Count and Countess leaving Ariel and her group alone.
Garret was a bit worried. "Ariel, are you sure you're ready to handle the responsibility of two babies?" he asked. "Babies may seem cute and innocent, and they can easily win you over with their charms, but they're a lot of work, and they tend to get into trouble."
"Don't worry so much, Garret. It'll be fine," reassured Ariel. "How much trouble could these little cuties be?"
But Ariel would soon regret saying those words. Not long after that, the twins woke up from their nap, and when they did, they began to swim all over the place, touching anything they could get their little hands on while destroying everything. The sounds of crashing and ripping filled the air, and destruction was everywhere.
Ariel, Garret, and Flounder tried to keep up with them, but the twins seemed to get out of reach before moving on to another object.
"Geez! I've had my fair share of babysitting, but watching these kids is way more difficult!" gasped Garret. "I can't keep them still for a second!"
"No kidding," gasped Flounder. "And I thought I was a fast swimmer."
Then, Sebastian swam in, and when he saw the state of the throne room, he was so shocked, his eyes nearly popped out of their sockets.
"Ariel! What is going on here?!" he exclaimed.
"Oh, just, uh, babysitting, Sebastian," replied Ariel shyly.
"Or at least trying to," gasped Garret.
Sebastian then looked at the babies and gasped, knowing who they were. "De Clambakersfield twins!" He then swam over and spoke sternly to Ariel and her group. "Listen, you kids, dis is no way to handle babies. You must use de child psychololigy."
"First of all, it's psychology," correct Garret. "Secondly, how exactly does that work, Crabby?"
"First of all, don't call me Crabby!" countered Sebastian. "Secondly, you gotta use de gentle voice. De caring claw."
And to prove it, Sebastian swam over to the mertwins getting their attention. Then, he started tickling them gently under their chins, making them laugh and giggle. Then, as Ariel, Garret, and Flounder watched, Sebastian raised his eyebrows smugly.
"You see? I know how to handle babies," the red crab spoke proudly. "I'm someting of a baby expert."
Then, the mertwins grabbed Sebastian and tickled him, making him laugh hysterically. Ariel, Garret, and Flounder couldn't help but laugh, too, finding the situation adorable and funny.
"Well, keep an eye on them, Mr. Expert," smiled Ariel. "I'll get some of my old toys for them to play with." She then spoke to herself. "Some old unbreakable ones."
"And I'll try to find something to clean up the mess in the throne room," said Garret. "Or at least what's left of it anyway."
The two swam off, leaving Flounder behind with Sebastian and the twins. The two twins tickled Sebastian until the crab finally managed to get away from them.
After catching his breath, Sebastian spoke to Flounder, still proud of himself. "Flounder, let me tell you de proper way ta care for babies," he said proudly. "You see, I come from a large family. Why, during de baby boom, my family nearly exploded. So I've been watching babies since... when I was a baby." He then started tearing up from nostalgia. "Oh. What a cute crab child I was. With my little claws and big eyes."
But while Sebastian was telling his story, he and Flounder didn't know that Oliver and Olivia were crawling away, leaving the throne room.
Ariel soon came back carrying a giant rocking seahorse and one of her old dolls, and Garret returned with a broom and dustpan.
"So, Sebastian, how are things going with the children?" asked Ariel.
"Just fine," said Sebastian. "Notice how quiet they are?"
Garret then looked up, and his eyes went wide. "Maybe that's because they ain't here!" he cried.
Ariel gasped. "Oh, no! They're gone!" she also cried.
Everyone immediately swam out of the throne room to look for the twins.
Oliver and Olivia had made their way to the marketplace. As they crawled around, they couldn't help but marvel at the various merpeople swimming around going about their shopping and routines. While teemed to the brim of curiosity, the babies wanted to explore some more and continued crawling.
At the same time, Ariel and the gang came zipping into the marketplace desperately looking for them, but they couldn't see them anywhere under the hustle and bustle. So the group tried asking around to see if anyone had seen them, going up to a merman with short black hair and a woman with orange hair in a fancy bun.
"Excuse me!" Ariel spoke to them. "We're looking for twin merbabies. Have you seen them?"
"Yeah, dey look like this," said Sebastian as he and Flounder made babyfaces.
"Only cuter and less fishy," Garret spoke while rolling his eyes.
The couple shook their heads and went on their way.
Ariel was now upset. "Oh, it's all my fault," she sighed miserably.
"Aw, don't blame yourself, Ariel," soothed Sebastian.
"Yeah, you're right, Sebastian," said Ariel. Then she gave him a spiteful glare. "You were the one who lost them."
Now, Sebastian was cross. "Me?! You were de babysitter!" he spoke accusingly.
"Yeah, but you said you were a baby expert!" Ariel yelled.
"Well, you were de one who listened to me!" Sebastian countered.
Garret then intervened. "Hey, this isn't the time to be fighting!" he snapped sternly. "If you guys got time to fight, then you got time to be looking for those twins! If we don't find them, King Triton will fry our tails and turn us into fish fry!"
Immediately, Ariel and Sebastian cringed from fear, including Flounder, which made them stop arguing at once. Then, the four resumed their search, swimming through the marketplace as fast as possible.
But, they didn't know that The Lobster Mobster and Da Shrimp were lurking close by, and they had heard everything.
"Hey, boss!" said Da Shrimp. "If we can get a hold of those twins, we can force their mother to give us her pearls for ransom!"
"Hey, I got an idea!" realized The Lobster Mobster. "If I can get a hold of those twins, I can force their mother to give me her pearls for ransom! How do I think of these things?"
"It's what makes you the boss, boss," Da Shrimp replied obliviously.
The Lobster Mobster then took out a strange device. It was appeared to be similar to a bellows, but the handles were composed of clamshells and coral, the cavity bag was a sea sponge, and the nozzle was a spiral shell. "This'll be the chance to use the new second-hand bubble gun I just took over in the marketplace," he said.
Da Shrimp inspected the device peeking into the nozzle. "Does it work?" he wondered curiously.
The Lobster Mobster then squeezed the handles, and the bubble gun released a bubble trapping Da Shrimp inside it. Da Shrimp tried to get out, but it wouldn't pop.
"It works," replied The Lobster Mobster slyly.
Da Shrimp floated helplessly along until he came to a stone arc. Oliver and Olivia happened to be close by, still enjoying their little adventure. But then, Da Shrimp floated by them, and immediately, the twins focused their attention on him, believing he was a toy, and reached out. The two babies then lost their balance and fell towards the marketplace below. They bounced on a canopy, launching them high into the water, then another, and eventually landed inside a large floating shell serving as a wheelbarrow. The momentum sent the shell speeding through the marketplace. It shot past startled and frightened merpeople and sea animals alike eventually floated outside the market.
Just outside of the marketplace was a large and deep trench. The shell sped on until it finally stopped just on the cliff's edge, dangerously teetering on its edge, which was already starting to give way. But despite the danger they were in, the twins were having great fun.
The cliff's edge continued to crumble until it couldn't hold the weight. It suddenly collapsed. The shell started to fall, but something grabbed the twins' by their tails at the last second as it disappeared into the trench below.
Oliver and Olivia were safe, but not for long, for the something that grabbed them turned out to be the tentacles of a giant squid. And the squid was looking hungry.
Ariel, Flounder, Sebastian, and Garret happened to be swimming nearby, and when they saw the twins in the squid's clutches, their eyes went wide with horror.
"Holy mackerel!" Garret shouted. "That squid's about to make a meal out of those twins!"
"Flounder, Decoy Plan Number One!" ordered Ariel.
The tropical fish cringed in dread. "Oh, I hate plan number one," he moaned. He swam close enough for the squid to see him and started making faces to taunt it. "Hey, Squidy! Bet you can't catch me! Naa-Naa-Na-Na-Naa!"
The squid saw Flounder and, angered by his taunts, began chasing him, dropping the babies. The babies started to fall into the trench again, but Ariel and Garret swam down, and each caught one just in time, carrying them to safety and placing them on a coral bed.
"That was a pretty good plan, Ariel," said Garret. "But it makes me wonder how many other decoy plans you got."
"When you deal with things like that, you have to be ready for anything," said Ariel.
Then, they heard Flounder's voice echoing in the distance.
"ARIEL!"
Ariel and the others looked up and suddenly remembered about the squid.
"Garret, you and Sebastian stay with the twins!" said Ariel. "I'll go save Flounder!"
And she raced away.
"Man. Never thought babysitting would be this stressful," sighed Garret. "And now we have a giant squid to deal with."
"You're telling me," concurred Sebastian. "What else can go wrong?"
Suddenly, Sebastian was encased inside a bubble, as was Garret, catching them both by surprise. They soon realized that they came from The Lobster Mobster and Da Shrimp, the gangster having used his bubble gun.
"Dis has possibilities," conceded Sebastian.
"The Lobster Mobster and Da Shrimp!" gasped Garret. "Not you guys again!"
"I'm taking over these twins, see?" smirked The Lobster Mobster. "They're mine! All mine!"
"That's what you think!" Garret spoke bravely. "You're not laying a claw on them!" The boy pushed against the bubble, trying to get out, but it didn't pop. "Hey! What's going on?! I can't get out!"
The Lobster Mobster snickered snidely. "As I said, I'm taking over these twins, see?" he sneered. Then he turned to his lackey. "All right, Shrimp. Let 'em have it."
Da Shrimp smirked as he swam back just into a bush and came back with something that made Oliver and Olivia's eyes widen as their mouths drooled a bit. It was a pair of lollipops.
"Oh, no! The one thing that all babies can't resist!" cried Garret. "Candy!"
"Kids! Don't ever take candy from strangers!" yelled Sebastian.
But it was no use. The twins were too mesmerized by the lollipops to pay attention.
"All right! It's time for us to head for the hills, see?" The Lobster Mobster told Da Shrimp. "And those pearls are as good as mine!"
And with Da Shrimp using the lollipops as bait, the two scallywags went away, leading the babies and leaving Garret and Sebastian behind trapped in their prisons.
