OMFG this story was a goddamn blast to write. For my pokemon fans, I tried to keep everything as canon world accurate as possible regarding pokemon and their stories (legendaries) as well as various pokemon moves and powers. This story does not have human Pokemon characters in it (from manga or anime), only MHA characters and pokemon themselves. This is also my first MHA fic that is 100% original content! It's its own story, no mha canon timeline events. I did so much research for this fic my god, but it was all super fun cause I've always loved Pokemon!
The story is Shoto-centric but has the POV of both him and Izuku.
Trigger warning for depression, self harm and dark themes. Enjoy!
-x- Shoto -x-
"Shoto, come here," Touya called from his room down the hall. Shoto ran to him, little slippers on his small feet scuffing the wooden floor. When the nearly four year old got to his older brother, he pushed the door open the rest of the way, and hurried inside. Touya was his favorite sibling. He was always nice to him. Natsuo didn't like having a little brother, but Touya was happy to have siblings and always showed it.
"Wha's it?" Shoto asked brightly, peeking over the desk Touya was sitting at.
"I wanted to teach you how to type. You're little but smart. Maybe typing could help you talk better," Touya said. He lifted Shoto up and put him in his lap. The bicolored hair boy looked at the keyboard. "You put your fingers on it, like this." Shoto tried, but his fingers were too little and stubby. "You can bounce them around."
"I don' sink I'm smart enough," Shoto said, eyeing the keys with wariness. His eyes narrowed at them suspiciously.
"Don't say that, you'll learn," Touya said. The door was pushed open by Hono, Touya's flareon. He walked to the desk and started pawing at Touya's leg. He shooed him away, but he made an annoyed growling noise. Touya sighed, and set Shoto on the floor. He went to pet the fluffy mane. He didn't have his own yet.
The Todoroki family only kept eevee evolutions because they all came from the same pokemon and he wanted varying types in the family. Fuyumi had a glaceon, Natsuo had an espeon, and Touya had a flareon. The father had an umbreon. Rei was the only one without an eevee pokemon, she had a snow vulpix. Shoto didn't have one yet, he would get one when his quirk came. He couldn't wait!
Touya stopped the fruitless trying to teach the three year old to type to take Hono on a walk as he demanded. Shoto drooped, and left Touya's room. But Touya looked back at him, "Wanna come, too?" Shoto's heterochromatic eyes brightened, and he nodded, hurrying after him. They were in the entry way, putting shoes on when Enji got home.
He opened the door, his umbreon walking in first and wiping his paws on the front mat. He stepped into the powder bin to not leave paw prints anywhere. "Where are you going?" he asked.
"Hono needs a walk."
"And why are you taking Shoto with you?" he asked firmly. Touya faltered and Shoto gave a deep, sad pout, holding his hands together, fingers intertwined. He looked down, knowing his father didn't like him. He didn't really know why. Maybe it was because Shoto wasn't as good with talking as the others had been. Or maybe because he took up a lot of Touya's attention, his only successful child so far.
Touya said, "Well… we were hanging out, and then Hono bugged me for a walk."
"You stay here. Touya, go on your walk and then come back to train." The nearly thirteen year old hesitated, looking at the sad Shoto, who just stared at his feet. He took his single shoe off and put back on the slippers. "Go," Enji snapped. Touya frowned, looking down, and left with his pokemon partner.
"You, go to your mother and try to speak like you're siblings," Enji said harshly, and went down the hall towards the training room. Shoto sniffled, wiping his nose and eyes before he started crying. He ran down the hall to his mother, who was painting in her room. Her paintings were always so sad, but Shoto liked them.
He opened the door and closed it behind him. "Mommy? Father say you gotta teach me ta talk beher," Shoto said. He didn't want to be a burden, but she was happy to see him. She washed her hands in the attached bathroom and closed her painting tins. She had her own room and bathroom. Shoto didn't think his mommy and father loved each other.
"Do you need a hug?" she asked. He nodded and hurried forward. She crouched down and hugged him. Shoto was the softest child so far, sensitive and looked down on. He didn't know he was an accident and wasn't wanted. Nobody ever said that to him. He just didn't know why father didn't like him.
She picked him up. "I'll help you learn to speak better at your own pace, alright? You're just a three year old, honey, you'll get better." That was opposite of what father said. But he spent more time with mommy than father, so he liked to believe her and her love. "Do you want to work on speech, or play with Veera? How about both?"
Shoto nodded, and Veera came out. She was an old snow vulpix so wasn't good at using her ice anymore. She walked to Shoto on her achy joints. Shoto was gentle when he hugged her. They sat on the rug by the bed, and Rei worked to help him pronounce the simple, most used words. Shoto did his very best, but he just wasn't good at it.
Rei could always tell when he was trying, and when he teared up from frustration. "You shouldn't let your father's words get you down. You're doing your best, which is all you can do." Shoto buried his face in the vulpix's fur, and nodded. She was curled up, fluffy tail in Shoto's snuggle range.
He finally asked, "Why does father not like me? Did I do somefing wong?" His voice was small and muffled in the pokemon's fur.
"Come here, sweetie." Shoto left Veera and hugged his mommy. "You didn't do anything wrong. Your father is just very busy, and it makes him grumpy. He works long hours. Then he has to train Touya when he gets home."
"When I get my quirk, will he like me den?" Rei didn't say no, that he wasn't wanted in the first place. An accident baby. There was no way she would tell her child such an awful thing.
"I don't know. But you should know you aren't only valued because of your quirk. Just like Natsuo and Fuyumi aren't defined by their quirks. Touya… is a special case. He's gifted. But with father's attention on Touya, that gives you more time to play."
Shoto drooped. "I wanna be luffed, dough. It makes me sad. An Fuyumi and Natsuo don' like me."
"That's not true. They just don't know how to act with children." It was an excuse. Rei told them to play with Shoto, but they always forgot, and when they were forced, they didn't enjoy it. Fuyumi did sometimes, but Natsuo didn't like kids, and Shoto was only three. At least Touya loved him. Shoto knew that he wasn't wanted in the back of his mind. His father never spent time with him. He wasn't sure if he wanted to, though. He was grumpy. Shoto just wished he wasn't looked down on, and he tried his best to be a good boy.
Rei took her paint out while they practiced, and let Shoto finger paint on some thick paper. He made a mess, but he was smiling. He pouted and frowned more than he ever smiled. Maybe everyone would love him when he got his quirk. Hopefully it was cool. He wanted ice, though, because fire was scary.
He knew that father would look down on him for being afraid of fire - his quirk, and Touya's. It was pretty, but up close, it was really scary. He was afraid of hot things. So if he got a fire quirk, he'd be very upset. Ice was better, he liked how mommy was cool on hot days. She wasn't very practiced at using it, but she was nice and cool. Shoto liked to bundle up in winter clothes and hug her so she got cold and he felt cozy in the cold.
"Rei!" Enji barked from the hallway. She sighed.
"Go wash your hands off, sweetie. I'll be back in a few minutes. Veera, keep him busy." The vulpix followed Shoto into the little bathroom, and he climbed onto the toilet to reach the counter and wash his hands off. He heard Enji yelling at her, and frowned. He didn't like when his mommy was yelled at. But he yelled at everyone. At least, when he spoke to the three besides Touya, it was often orders barked at them.
Shoto wished he had a nice father who loved his mommy and kids. He didn't know any better besides in movies. In movies, the family was all happy. But here, that just wasn't how things worked. While he was drying his hands on his shirt, Touya snuck in. Shoto brightened at seeing him.
"Look what I found," Touya said, handing him a cracked egg. "I found it in front of the house."
"What is it?"
"I think it's togepi shell."
"Wow! Can I keep it?"
"Of course. I'm sorry I couldn't take you on the walk," Touya said, looking truly sad, his white hair sticking up everywhere. Shoto frowned again, and looked down at his togepi egg. It had been left behind when it evolved. Shoto wished he could see an evolution in person. It was hard to catch one unplanned.
Shoto said, "'S okay. I know you wanted me ta go, too." Touya nodded. Enji shouted his name, and he ruffled his youngest sibling's hair and left the room in a hurry. Rei came back in, and Shoto excitedly showed her what Touya brought.
"That's very cool. Let's go put it in your collection, huh?" Shoto nodded, and Rei picked him up, and they walked to Shoto's room, which was on the opposite side of the house as his siblings, but closer to his mommy's room, so he was glad about that. He wished his room was next to Touya's, though. But there was nothing to do about it.
-x- Izuku -x-
Izuku crouched in front of a pidgeotto. He tried to reach out to pet it, but it squawked at him in warning. Kacchan tried to pet it, too, but it flew away, looking deeply offended. Both boys pouted, and Kacchan kicked a rock in anger. Izuku looked around for any more pokemon, maybe some harmless bug ones. But there were none in this area. Since it was a place children often played, they usually stayed away. Well, children younger than quirk age. Neither Kacchan or Izuku had gotten their quirks yet, so pokemon didn't like them much unless it was a family one.
Inko's growlithe was nice to him, but only because Inko was there. "I want my quirk already," Kacchan complained angrily.
"We'll get them soon," Izuku supplied.
"I know that! But that doesn't mean I don't want one now!" Kacchan snapped. Izuku looked around for any more pokemon. He really wanted to be their friends. "I hope there are at least some at the preschool." Both were going to go to their first day of preschool the next day. Izuku was nervous but excited to meet new friends. He liked Kacchan, but he could be snappy a lot. They walked back to their neighborhood from the park to meet their mothers are their cars. Inko and Mitsuki were chatting, and looked up when the kids came back.
"Mommy, when can I get a pokemon?" Izuku asked in sadness, freckled cheeks puffed out with a pout.
"Soon. I promise it'll be soon," Inko promised, and clipped him into his carseat. Izuku hoped that he could get one soon! He was lonely when everyone else had pokemon. He saw them everywhere but they didn't like little kids much unless they were related in some way to the parents of the kid.
Taki was at home, probably shredding the corner of the couch again since nobody was around. He was badly behaved on his own, no matter how much training he went through. He wasn't violent, but he was rough with things. Izuku had lost many toys to the little growlithe. It was annoying, but he still liked him. He was fluffy and all.
When they got home, Izuku ran to his room to try on the preschool uniform. It was green, but not the right shade to match his hair or eyes. He was so excited to meet new people, new little kids and friends! He wanted more friends, he didn't really fit in with the neighborhood kids as much as he wished, not as much as Kacchan, who was so cool while Izuku was quiet and meek.
He wasn't abused or mistreated, he was just naturally quiet. He was excited all day and night, and fell asleep to the sounds of Taki tearing up at the floorboards. It was a good thing they had pokemon insurance for things like this.
In the morning, he put on his uniform and hurried into the living room and then zoomed to the bathroom, brushing his teeth roughly, not covering all of them in his hurry. When he went into the living room, he waited for Inko to wake up, by putting on the morning cartoons showed that he was too early to go!
He had some applesauce and dumped cinnamon into it and then ate the bowl in front of the TV, not really paying attention because he was so excited. When Inko did get up, he hurried her to go as fast as she could, and she happily got ready to take him to meet other little boys and girls. He was going to meet Kacchan there. He was clipped into the carseat in the back. "Do you think they'll have pokemon? What kind, do you think? Will they like the kids without quirks?" he asked in rapid fire as they drove to the destination.
Inko smiled in the mirror. "I would assume they have some. But remember the rules?"
"No touching without permission! No asking to see powers! No battles!" The first two were just proper etiquette while the third was law. Pokemon battles were made illegal a few years ago due to the proof of unhealthy abuse it caused those that were used for battles, usually betting money on either side.
Izuku never wanted to upset pokemon, he just wanted to get to know more since they were so interesting! When they got there, Kacchan's car was there but he was already inside. He ran in, Inko following. All the parents were saying goodbye to their kids, some upset, others excited. Izuku looked around, but only saw a few pokemon, and all of them were small. He wanted to see big ones. But the big ones were rare because evolutions were hard to access.
He hurried to the carpet and plopped down, waving goodbye to his mother. When she left, he was filled with worry. Everyone already looked like they were mingling, playing together. Kacchan was already surrounded by others, and Izuku felt left out. He wanted a friend other than him, to have more loved ones and people to play with.
Looking around for any straggler, he saw another boy with red and white hair (cool!) sitting in the corner, petting a marill under the chin. Izuku walked over. "Hi! I'm Izuku!" he said loudly. The boy jumped, startled. "Oh, sorry," Izuku apologized. The boy stood up, and he was taller than Izuku. He also had different colored eyes.
"I'm Shoto," Shoto said. He sounded strained and slow when he spoke, determined and focused. The marill patted on his leg, and Izuku was so interested to see Shoto get along so well with it.
"Is that yours?" Shoto shook his head. "Do you have a quirk?" He shook his head again. "Hmm…"
"They like me… I don't know why," Shoto admitted. Izuku felt jealous, but not in an angry way. The marill jumped onto Shoto's shoulder and then a plusle and minum wandered over from outside. They crowded Shoto's legs, clawing their ways up his legs. He was attracting a lot of attention, Kacchan glaring at him already. Shoto looked uneasy under the gaze.
He gently put the little pokemon back on the floor, and they scurried away. "That's so cool, Shoto!" Izuku said. The green haired boy saw Kacchan look momentarily furious before everyone was called to the carpet. They sat down, Shoto in the back. Izuku sat a bit away from him but still fairly close.
"We're going to go around and introduce ourselves, okay? Your name and favorite pokemon." Izuku couldn't think of any, he liked too many, even if he'd only gotten to hold and hang out with growlithe. He didn't even remember his father's pokemon. He hadn't been around for a long time. Izuku didn't even really remember his face.
Kacchan said, "Bakugo Katsuki! Skitty!" Everyone listed their names and favorite pokemon. When Izuku's came up, he couldn't think of his favorite. He liked grass types.
"Uh, Midoriya Izuku… I like chikorita." He looked to Shoto, who was last.
"Todoroki Shoto… um… eevee," he said in a questioning voice. Kacchan scoffed, and Shoto clearly heard and shrunk in on himself just slightly, twirling a red strand of hair around his finger. Izuku thought it was cool and he looked very unique with his two toned hair and two toned eyes. When everyone was introduced, they got to pick what things to play with.
Shoto went for the least busy area, which was a puzzle area. Izuku followed him. He was quiet and seemed gentle. And he got along with the pokemon, so that had to mean he was a nice person! When Izuku sat next to him, they silently worked on the puzzle together. It was of a purrloin. "Do you have any pokemon at your home?" Izuku aksed quietly.
The taller child nodded. "We have a umbreon, espeon, glaceon, flareon and snow vulpix." Izuku's jaw dropped. "My father likes eevee evolutions." Again, his words came out as if he took effort in them. Maybe he wasn't good at talking. Izuku wouldn't point that out.
"Does that mean you have evolve stones?" Shoto looked surprised. Izuku blushed. "I like pokemon. They're super interesting."
Shoto went back to the puzzle, and nodded. "Father has a lot of money. He's a hero. I'll prolly - probably - get a eevee, too." He definitely had trouble speaking. Izuku wouldn't make any show he noticed. But he gasped at hearing Shoto had a hero parent. If there was one thing that was tied with being interesting with pokemon, it was heroes.
"Wow! What hero?" Izuku asked brightly.
The other boy said, "Endeavor," in a way that showed he did not like him. Izuku caught on easily, and vowed to himself to not bring it up. Izuku just hummed about it. But Kacchan overheard from the playdough table, and stormed over.
"You're a liar!" he said to Shoto, pointing rudely. It looked like Shoto had no idea how to react, so he just looked worried. Speechless. "No way someone as wimpy as you has Endeavor as a dad." Shoto's face went red in embarrassment. Izuku glared at Kacchan, who glared back. It looked like Shoto was going to cry after the blonde boy stormed away. The room was so noisy with children laughing and screaming that nobody heard the interaction.
Shoto wiped at his eyes, and then the plusle and minum from before scurried out form under the podium. Izuku tilted his head in interest. Both little pokemon climbed into his lap and stayed put while he worked on the puzzle, seeming surprised but completely unbothered. "Do all pokemon like you?" Izuku asked. Shoto shrugged.
Izuku barely caught it, Shoto rubbed the plusle's cheek, and when he pulled it away to put another piece back, a little tiny bit of electricity linered on Shoto's finger. He didn't notice. He didn't make any show that he saw or felt it. Izuku swallowed, wondering if that was his quirk. Interesting! So cool! Izuku definitely wanted to be friends with the quiet, peaceful boy.
"Do you want to be my friend?" Izuku asked.
"Okay…" Shoto said quietly. Izuku beamed, and they played more puzzles. Eventually a few other kids came over, but only because they wanted to see the pokemon. Shoto didn't like being crowded, it seemed, and the pokemon also noticed, and darted away, the attention leaving him and following the little pokemon.
After a bit, they got some snacks, and moved to the blocks. Shoto was a very, very quiet boy. He didn't speak to Izuku, but he listened when he spoke instead. He was an engaging listener when he nodded along to certain parts. Kacchan came over, and said, "Izuku, play with me over there."
"But I'm playing with Sho-"
"I'm your friend!" Kacchan said angrily. Shoto swallowed but didn't react otherwise as he built random towers. Izuku didn't want to get into a fight, so he agreed to play with the blonde, and Shoto stayed at the blocks all by himself. Izuku played jump rope with Kacchan, only to fall and get scoffed at.
When he fell and started crying, Kacchan wasn't the one to see if he was okay, Shoto hurried over, abandoning his block towers that fell in his haste. "Are you okay?" he asked quietly while the preschool teacher got him a bandaid for his bruised knee. Izuku nodded, and flushed in embarrassment.
Shoto held his hand to the ground, and the plusle darted over and into his hand. Shoto handed the pokemon to Izuku, who gasped in shock. The little one sat in his hand for a full minute, blinking wide eyes before it jumped down and scurried away. Izuku looked at his hand in awe. Nobody else was paying attention to them, so they didn't see the interaction.
"Thank you. That was really n-nice," Izuku said, tearing up.
"Are… people not nice to you?" Shoto asked. His brows were furrowed lightly, otherwise he wasn't too expressive.
"I don't have that many friends, but mommy is nice to me. And Taki, her growlithe. Though he destroys things, and eats my toys! You're super nice, do you have a lot of friends?" Shoto shook his head. "Oh. Then I'm lucky!"
"How?"
"Cause I'm your only friend right now. Your daddy is a hero, he must like you a lot!" Shoto shook his head. "Oh… I'm sorry."
Shoto hunched his back a little. "Father doesn't like me. My brother and mommy do, though."
"All I have is my mommy. I don't have siblings or a daddy," Izuku said, not commenting on the fact Endeavor didn't like him, or at least Shoto thought he didn't.
"You're lucky." Izuku felt sad for his new friend. "Father hit me da- the other day." The green haired boy gasped. "Some bad stuff happened, and now me and ma - my siblings are in a hotel while mommy try to find us somewhere to live." Izuku felt so, so sad for his new friend. He couldn't imagine his mommy hitting him.
Izuku smiled brightly. "She seems like a nice mommy!" This was the right thing to do, since it got Shoto to smile and agree. He clearly adored his mother, which was good since he had a bad father. He talked about how his mommy liked to paint and read to him. Try to teach him to talk gooder.
They hung out together the rest of the school day, with the pokemon coming for tiny, periodic visits. It wasn't just the plusle and minum, it was the marill, as well. But Shoto was a gentle, quiet boy. Maybe that's why they liked him so much. And Izuku got to hold one! For the first time ever! It was amazing!
When Izuku went out to the parking lot to see his mommy, Shoto headed to the side and saw a nice minivan parked, a white haired woman with gray eyes there. Her smile was extremely kind, and she hugged Shoto in greeting. Izuku went into the carseat, and he saw Shoto pointing at him, but he had a flat face on. Izuku worried he didn't like him and was saying so to his mother, but instead, the woman smiled at him brightly and gave a nice wave. The boy smiled and waved back.
He got into the car, and said, "Mommy! I made a friend, he's really nice and the pokemon liked him and then one let me hold it!"
"How exciting!"
"It was also sad, though… cause my friend, Shoto, his daddy hit him!" Inko gasped. "Now his mommy and siblings are staying at a hotel while trying to find someplace to stay." Izuku didn't really grasp how serious this was. Inko asked him to introduce them the next day. He was more than happy to.
-x- Shoto -x-
They returned to the hotel. The siblings were still at school, so it was only Shoto there. Veera was sleeping on the bed while the other three pokemon were in various places, napping or playing with some chew toys. Shoto was in a good mood because he made a friend and got to play with some new types of pokemon.
"They really liked me. They were cute," he said in a quiet voice. He had been very quiet since he was smacked across the face hard enough to cause his mouth to bleed. Rei sat on the bed with him, and helped him into some pajamas. Era came over, Fuyumi's glaceon, and used her long ears to rub against Shoto's foot nicely. Lately they'd all been more clingy to him, the past few days.
"I'm glad. How are you feeling? Are you still very sad?"
Shoto nodded. "Do Fuyumi an' Natsuo and Touya hate me, now?" he asked quietly, hands fisting his shirt, legs hanging over the side of one of the beds. It was a big hotel room, with a small kitchen and everything. Rei pushed some of his hair behind his ear.
"They don't hate you. Everyone is very upset over what happened. But we're not gonna go back anytime soon. And I won't let father see you until you're ever ready."
"What about Touya's twaining?" He lapsed back into his poor speech now that he wasn't around anyone who'd judge. Hero came over, Natsuo's espeon, and jumped onto the bed beside them. Soon all of them were on the bed. Shoto liked them being closer to him. It felt nice. He felt love more, and that was a nice feeling after feeling so sad and hated by father striking him.
Rei smiled. "Did you think Touya enjoyed the training, honey? He didn't like it at all. He wants to be stronger, but he didn't like the training," she assured him. "Nobody resents you, and we're going to find a new place to stay. I have money to spare, so we'll find somewhere nice. Probably not as big as our old home."
"Can I not have to wear slippers?"
"You can wear whatever you want. Even silly socks." Shoto gasped and then smiled, excited for that. Very excited. "Why don't you take a nap, it was a draining day." Shoto nodded, and curled up with Veera, who was already sleeping. Rei went to the attached room, and called some people. There was a lot that needed to be done quickly.
When they left to go get the three from school, the van was quiet but for Touya. "How was school, Shoto?" he asked. Fuyumi and Natsuo were sad, droopy, and silent. They probably wanted to go home and Shoto ruined it for them. He was a bad little brother, no wonder they didn't like him.
"Okay."
"Only okay?"
"I made a friend. And da pokemon in da class came to me ta hang out." He was frustrated his speech lapsed.
"Really? Why?" Natsuo asked, actually engaging. It was weird. Shoto shrugged in his carseat. "Mom, how much longer do we need to stay in the hotel?" he asked, not sounding angry, just bored.
Fuyumi scolded him. "Don't put more pressure on her, she just left an abusive house with us," he said in annoyance, reprimanding him. Rei smiled in the rear view mirror.
"Don't worry. I'm getting into contact with a lawyer today. I think we should not rent an apartment only to then move to a house. And I don't want you guys to expect us to have a lot of money anymore. I have inheritance I can use, but we won't have a huge income anymore."
Touya cut her off. "You think we'd rather stay with dad because of money instead of somewhere we won't be yelled at or beaten?"
"I suppose not," Rei said in a happy voice. They were all confused when a bunch of bird pokemon landed on the roof of the car, seeing them through the skylight. "Very strange," she said slowly, but paid more attention to driving. Shoto liked more pokemon, they helped him feel better today, and then were helpful to Izuku when he was sad.
When they got to the hotel, an emolga divebombed Shoto, its leg spread wide to ride the wind when it landed on his shoulder. Shoto shared an odd look with his family, who had no idea. Hold me! Shoto froze, eyes confused, brows furrowed. He looked around, but nobody was talking to him.
He didn't know what it was, and the emolga scurried away into the brush. When they walked inside, a pikachu went running to Shoto, and looked at him brightly. "What the hell is this?" Touya asked in deep confusion. "It's like they're all attracted to you, Sho." He reached forward and pet the pikachu.
Shoto reached down at pet it. Your hair is cool!
"I can hear them," he said quietly. "The emolga first… now this one," he turned his wide eyes to his mother. This was not either of his parent's quirks. Was it a quirk or was it something else? Rei rushed them upstairs, Shoto saying goodbye to the receptionist's pikachu. It waved goodbye and darted back to the bed in the corner.
When they got inside, Natsuo asked, "Try with Hero." Shoto headed to the espeon, and touched him. Nothing came, but he rubbed lightly against Shoto's hand. "Is he saying anything?" Shoto shook his head. He tried with the other eevee evolutions, and he could hear Hono.
I knew there was something with you!
"Hono said 'I knew der- there - was somefi-thing with you." Touya interrupted the conversation to praise Shoto on his pronunciation. Shoto gave him a bright smile.
"So, Hono likes you more than me, huh?"
Of course not!
"He says no. He loves you." Shoto pet his head, the fluffy yellow mane so soft. When Shoto took his hand away, they all saw a hunt of fire on his fingers. Shoto blinked a few times before the room erupted in shock. Rei tried quieting her noisy children down, as it got the pokemon disgruntled. They weren't used to a small, confined space.
"Calm down! Calm down, you're upsetting them and making too much noise!"
"We can't let dad know," Touya said firmly. "He'd totally use Shoto for his own gain!" Shoto crawled under the covers, not wanting to hear scary things like that. "But aren't divergent quirks super rare? Why does Shoto have one?" he asked, still in shock. Everyone looked to Shoto, who felt under a lot of pressure.
He said, "Hey, my quirk came, I can get my own pokemon now!" Rei shushed them all.
"We need to be calm, okay? I don't know why Shoto had a divergent quirk, but there's nothing wrong with that." Touya calmed down and nodded, doing his best to repair the stress that was playing out across Shoto's face. Was he wrong? Did he do something bad? Did they hate him, he didn't fit in anymore at all. His mommy and father did not have this quirk, so why did he?
Touya said, "Hey, now you'll have more friends, right? You won't be lonely." Shoto nodded, but felt bad for causing so much trouble. "What kind of pokemon do you want? You don't need an eeveelution pokemon, you can choose whatever you want. Now that father isn't there to force you." None of the pokemon in the room seemed upset with his words, knowing they were loved by their human partners. Veera snuggled Shoto under the covers, her white fur soft and plush. She was old, and the thing she did the most other than sleep was keep herself meticulously groomed.
"Um… I want an eeveelution, too. But I don't wanna cheat!"
"Eevee's are very expensive. We can go to a shelter and get one there." That's right, they only had the eeveelutions because of the money and privilege of being the number 2's family. Well, eevees always had owners. Maybe he could go to a shelter and take a pokemon from there. Or find one somewhere. Though wild pokemon didn't usually like being partners with humans.
He was very excited.
"For now, we need to hold off. There simple isn't enough room in here for another pokemon. I'll try and get us somewhere bigger to stay. Please try to be patient, I am doing my best." There was a heavy hint of insecurity and worry in their mother's voice, stress. Fuyumi hugged her. She smiled up at their mother.
"I'll help with cooking. And we'll all stay clean. You're doing a good job, mom." Rei's voice caught in her throat, and she clearly fought tears. Veera stood up and rubbed against her side caringly. "We'll be fine away from dad. Well, be better without him here. He won't order around you or us, he won't roughly train Touya, and will never touch Shoto again."
The three older siblings all nodded firmly. It was a wild day today, but it ended with Rei reading Shoto stories, the other children working on homework on their beds. The suit had two attached bedrooms, one that housed Fuyumi, Shoto and Rei, the other with the two sons. There was enough room, it was just tight and not ideal.
"I love you, mommy. We'll be a happy family," Shoto said sleepily. Rei ran her fingers through his hair.
"We'll be a bigger family once you get your own pokemon. I'm sure you'll find one you love," Rei soothed, Shoto slipping into sleep. It was kind of a fun day. He was happy he did not have his father's fire quirk. And maybe this meant he could have a lot of pokemon friends! He wouldn't be that alone if he had none. He wondered what Izuku would think of it. He looked forward to telling him.
