That next morning dawned dreary, damp, and cold, it had rained right after Jason was arrested and it quit right before sunrise. The type of cold if one wasn't careful they could easily get sick and catch a cold.
If you had just come to Cabot Cove that morning, something felt off amongst the towns people and they would be quick to tell you that there was another murder – and it hit the community hard.
Jessica and Della had woken up early… both plagued by what had happened the night before.
"I don't understand why Jason would kill Leanne, Jess."
Della said shakily. She had seen plenty of crime scenes before but somehow what had happened bothered her more than she was willing to admit at the moment.
"I don't know, Della. I don't know…"
Jessica replied – with an equally shaky voice as they sat with their tea.
Perry was sitting on the edge of the bed – looking out the window in the guest room as what happened the night before replayed in his mind… he was thinking about Leanne… and he knew that he needed to step in on Jason's behalf.
Jason loved, truly loved Leanne, just as much as Perry truly loved Della. He couldn't let whoever framed him get away with it.
"Perry, what's going on… what are you thinking about?"
Della asked as she walked in to check on him,
"It's not so much what I'm thinking about… it's who I'm thinking about. I'm thinking about Jason and Leanne and how much they remind me of us."
Perry said as Della sat next to him placing a hand on his shoulder,
"I know last night scared you, to be honest, it scared Jessica the most. We need to be there for her. Come downstairs and have some breakfast."
As the trio ate in silence,
Leanne's parents were in also "trying" to function,
"Katie, you need to eat."
Leonard Cole, Leanne's father, tried to encourage Leanne's mother to have some breakfast as Katie sat there with tears flowing – as if she hadn't stopped crying. Leanne was their only child and she was gone.
"Leonard, you're grieving as much as I am… how can you move on so quickly after our daughter's death?!"
Katie spat back through her tears as Leonard tried to keep his temper in check,
"Leanne wouldn't want us to grieve for long."
Katie sighed as she picked at her breakfast.
"Jason wouldn't have killed Leanne. You know that Gary."
Helen Watson tried to reason with Jason's father.
"I know, but I want to find out who did… because when I find out I'm going to kill them."
"Gary! Calm down. You're angry."
Helen said harshly as tears began to fall again as Gary sighed pulling his wife in for a hug as they began to sob.
"…Are you sure that you just helped Leanne go for her walk, Henry?"
Emily Matthews asked her son, Henry's Dad died years ago, as Henry nodded innocently,
"Yes, Mom. Being the nice guy that I am, I helped her."
Emily looked at her son suspiciously,
"Then why is she dead? You're going to be in so much trouble if you're not telling me the truth."
She threatened as Henry didn't even balk or show signs of being scared. He was content with lying to his Mom.
Jessica was debating whether she wanted to go on her walk when Della and Perry walked up,
"We'll go with you. You don't want to go alone and we understand that."
Perry said as Jessica looked to him as she hugged him – not wanting to cry at that moment when Della's expression turned sad.
"I'm sorry, Jess. I can't imagine what you're feeling… and if you don't want to talk at the moment… and even after we leave, you have our phone number and we'll be there when you're ready to talk."
Della said sympathetically as Jessica hugged her as well,
"Thank you, Della. You don't know how much your kind words mean to me in this moment and how much they helped."
As they headed out, they ran into other townspeople having felt comfortable with Della as it turned into (almost) a whole community just walking together to comfort their friend.
Jessica was a little taken aback… she knew her fellow townspeople loved her, but the selfless act of just walking with her without trying to start a conversation took her by wonderful surprise.
"Th… Thank you, everyone."
Jessica said before going back into her house, shakily as she began to cry happily knowing that she was beyond loved in Cabot Cove.
