"Jessica, go rest. Perry and I will take care of things around here today. I already sent Grady out to be with his friends."
Della insisted once everyone had left to go about their business after the walk.
"Oh, Della… I can't…"
Jessica started when Perry spoke up,
"Della's right, Jessica. You're mentally exhausted, you need your rest."
Della nodded as Jessica hugged them and went up to her room and when Jessica was out of ear shot,
"Call Paul."
Perry said as Della nodded,
"I was going to do that anyways, Perry."
It was a rather slow day back in LA in Suite 904,
Paul was on his way out with his Aunt Gertie, he was planning on treating her to a nice day away from the office. Something that he knew that his father would do but when the phone rang – he was surprised to hear his Aunt Della on the other end,
"Paul? What are you doing?"
Della asked as Paul sighed,
"I was going to treat Aunt Gertie to a day from the office. Something I know Pops did for her while he was alive."
Della sighed deeply which wasn't lost on Paul as he said,
"What's wrong Aunt Della?"
"We need you in Cabot Cove, there was a murder last night and it hit Jessica pretty hard."
Paul sighed and looked to Gertie as she nodded,
"Aunt Della are you sure that you need me out there?"
"Your Dad would've said 'Yes' right off the bat Paul. You know that."
"Let me hang up and think about this."
"Don't think too long, your Uncle and I need you out here."
Della cautioned,
"Alright, love you both."
Paul nodded as he hung up,
"Paul Drake, go to Cabot Cove. You can treat me when the three of you come home. Your Aunt Della is right, didn't she tell you that your Dad would be out helping his best friends in a heartbeat?"
Gertie said as Paul balked a little, he knew how serious Gertie could get when it came to his father and when it came to helping Perry and Della.
"Yes, Aunt Gertie…"
Paul started when Gertie cut him off,
"Now, Paul. I may not be your mother, same with Della, but we've been ones to you. We also know that your Dad would not be happy to hear you didn't go out and help them. We're all family in this office."
Paul looked at her as he sighed, she was right.
"Fine, I'll go back and call when I check in at the airport letting them know when I'll be out to Cabot Cove. I love you, Aunt Gertie. Thanks for that little extra push."
Paul finally said with a kiss to Gertie's temple, a loving gesture that only he did with her as he left to go pack.
Della and Perry were sitting at the table, quietly eating their dinner when the phone rang and broke them out of their thoughts…
"Hello?"
"Uncle Perry?"
Perry heard Paul's voice and airport commotion in the background,
"Yes. What's up Paul?"
"I'm on the 4:30 flight to Cabot Cove and I won't get in until late… and I'll need someone to pick me up from the airport, or do you need me to take a taxi?"
Perry nodded,
"Take a taxi. I hardly slept last night; I'll wait up for you."
Paul nodded,
"I take it that the driver will know where to go. I need to go… we're about to begin boarding. See you in a few hours. Give Aunt Della my love. See you guys soon."
Perry nodded as they hung up,
"Paul's about to board his flight. He's going to take a taxi here from the airport."
Della sighed as Jessica walked down,
"Who were you talking to?"
She asked groggily which signaled to them that she had slept nearly all day as they jumped up and got her some food as Perry nodded,
"Della called our private investigator, Paul Drake to come out and help with the investigation. We want to help Jessica."
Jessica blushed softly. Perry Mason and Della Street were rather unusual strangers. They were kind and even though they had just met, were willing to use their vacation time to help solve a murder.
"Thank you, both of you – and let's not forget about Paul even though he's not here yet."
Jessica said as she tried to smile as she finished her sentence with a slight chuckle as light giggles broke out.
Della smiled as she said,
"I can feel Leanne's presence with us. She's happy to see your smile back Jessica. I know it."
Jessica smiled as she nodded,
"I feel it too."
The trio smiled as things seemed to lighten up just a tad.
