I have been lucky to avoid them but would like to acknowledge any readers I may have in Ukraine or Texas or Buffalo, NY. My prayers go out to you specifically. I hope you are safe and want to remind you, just as the Doctor does time and time again:
There will be a new day and it will be brighter than the last. It may not be tomorrow. It may not be this week. But it will come.
If you want to talk, vent, or complain about anything, please DM me. I'm always here with an open ear and an open heart.
I'm sorry I cannot do more.

Zip-a-dee-do-dah. Zip-a-dee-yay. My, oh, my, what beautiful day.
After their lunch, the Librarian led Weiss down the different shops of Main Street USA. While she may not have been as overtly excited as some of her teammates, the heiress was definetly amazed by the strange stalls, colors, and shops that littered the sides.
Plenty of sunshine, heading my way.
He looked up, noting the lack of clouds and smiled. His T.A.R.D.I.S always seemed to know exactly what he wanted, even if he didn't know it. It wasn't like the Doctor's, taking him where he needed to be in order to help people, but it still did an impressive job.
The only problem was how perfect it was.
There wasn't a cloud in the sky. The lines weren't too long and everyone seemed too happy. Granted, this was DisneyLand. People were supposed to be happy. But that didn't mean you wouldn't see a disgruntled father complaining about the heat.
But there wasn't. In fact, the temperature was a perfect cool - warm enough to not shiver but cool enough to not be sweating. Perfect weather in Southern California.
Except he knew that such a thing didn't exist.
The Librairan slowly began to walk back towards the center statue. Pressing a finger to his ear, he made a wide-range call to all advanced technology in the area in order to quickly get in contact with his fellow travelers.
"What's going on?" Weiss asks, pulling out her scroll and silencing it.
"Something is off," he explains, waiting for the others to answer. "Can't you hear it?"
"Hear what?"
"The children. Listen."
Weiss spun in a slow circle, closing her eyes. After a moment, she turns back to the Librarian with a frown. "I don't understand."
"They're happy," he notes, still waiting for the call to connect.
"What's wrong with that?"
They stopped, back at the original point where everyone split. The Librarian places a hand on his T.A.R.D.I.S' side and curses softly. "Have you ever been somewhere where every kid is happy?"
"No…"
The Librarian nods. "Exactly. There's always a kid crying. He could have scraped his leg, or maybe even lost sight of his mother. But I've never been somewhere where there isn't a crying child in a large setting."
"But what does that mean?" Weiss asks, moving in front of the Librarian and crossing her arms.
"I don't know. But in my experience, if something feels off, it is."
Suddenly, the call connects with a soft click. "Please tell me this is the Librarian and not a scam call about our bullhead's extended warranty."
"Ruby?" Frowning, the Librarian leans forward and presses his ear, pushing the comm deeper. "Where are you?"
"Well, we just got out of Star Tours."
The Librarian gives a sigh of relief. "Thank the Forgotten. Are you okay?" Something alien bursts through the speakers, causing him to cringe. "What was that?"
"Well, we're under attack."
Ruby clutches her scroll and flinches as another blue, circular beam blasts into the kiosk. After their (AWESOME) trip throughout the galaxy, she and her uncle exited the spaceship and headed towards the gift shop. In which, a bunch of guys in white, plastic-looking armor had entered.
Initially, Uncle Qrow thought they were some sort of cosplayer (he said he had often met children who would dress up as huntsmen in his travels). And they did resemble the ones they saw on the ride.
Stormtroops? Ruby thought.
They started shooting at them before she could think on it more. Strange energy blasts shot out of their weapons, hitting other, less-trained, citizens. Whenever the energy hit them, they would collapse to the ground lifelessly. Luckily, Ruby and her uncle were and rushed behind a wall of cool-looking souvenirs.
"You think this is part of the attraction?" Uncle Qrow asks.
Ruby smiles but shakes her head. "No. But just to be safe…" The young girl reaches behind her, about to grab Crescent Rose, but feels nothing. In equal stupidity, Uncle Qrow instinctively reaches for his sword as well but also is left empty-handed.
Groaning, Uncle Qrow gives a slight curse. "Why the heck did we listen to the Librarian?"
"Because nobody else here has weapons," she repeats. "And he didn't want us to bring them in case someone accidentally accidentally took them. Also, the park-people wouldn't allow them onto the rides."
"I hate logic."
Suddenly, Ruby's scroll began to ring. Just in time. She quickly pulls it out of her pocket, only for one of the stormtrooper's shots to graze her arm. Panicking, Ruby pulls it back and drops her scroll. There were no marks, but her arm was asleep.
Well, actually, it felt more cold than anything. No pins and needles, just nothing. It is more like her arm passed out.
Uncle Qrow saw the blast and growled, spinning around and preparing to lunge at their attackers. "Hang tight, Ruby."
"Wait!" Ruby said, lifting her hand with her other arm. "I don't think they're trying to hurt us. Just incapacitate us."
"That doesn't change anything," he growls. "You stay here. I'll deal with them."
As he jumps over the counter, Ruby grabs her scroll (with her good arm) and accepts the call. "Please tell me this is the Librarian and not a scam call about our bullhead's extended warranty," she whispers.
"Ruby?" the Librarians voice crackles. "Where are you?"
"Well, we just got out of Star Tours," she answers.
"Thank the Forgotten," he sighs. "Are you okay?"
Uncle Qrow curses and one of the troopers is thrown into the wall. As they crumble, their weapon points itself towards Ruby and a pulse of blue energy is shot at her. The girl winces and ducks to the side, avoiding it.
"What was that?"
Scooting to the side, Ruby watches as her uncle grabs one of the prop swords from the wall and uses it to knock away his opponent's weapons. "Well," she explains, "we're under attack."
"Under attack?!" Weiss' voice interrupts. "What did you do?"
"Nothing! I swear! We just got to the gift shop and a bunch of guys with white armor and laser fun's started attacking!"
"Stormtroopers?" the Librarian asks. Through the scroll, she hears him open his T.A.R.D.I.S' doors. "Don't worry. We're on our way. Where is Qrow?"
Glancing over her shoulder,s she sees him hitting one of their attackers with their own gun. "He's fighting them. Most of them are unconscious."
"But more will probably be arriving soon… Dang, I thought I picked out a normal universe."
"A normal universe? This isn't normal?" Weiss' voice is muffled.
Something metallic clatters. "Movie grunts with real weapons? No. No it's not. Hang on Ruby. We'll be there in a second."
Ruby nods, though since it was a voice call, they wouldn't know. Before she could correct this, Uncle Qrow was thrown over her shelf and smashed into the wall. A pulse of blue energy then wraps around him, knocking him unconscious.
"Uncle Qrow!" she gasps, moving to his side and checking his pulse. He's alive. Just stunned.
The sound of bootsteps quickly follows and Ruby turns to see three more of the space-age soldiers marching to their position. She quickly grabs her uncle and uses her semblance, leaving petals at her footsteps as she runs around the gift shop and breaks for the exit.
But as the doors don't open and she is forced to stop as her face smashes into the glass. Ruby drops her uncle and pounds on the glass.
"Help!" she yells.
The Stormtroopers turn around and cock their heads.
"What the…?"
"Wasn't she-?"
The last one shrugs and raises his gun. "Who cares. Bag and tag."
Ruby raises her arms and closes her eyes, expecting to feel… something as they fire. But as they do, their guns making energized sounds, Ruby feels nothing.
Slowly, the girl opens her eyes. A shield of blue wood had appeared in front of her with complete silence. Proudly, the familiar T.A.R.D.I.S shape stands between her and the Stormtroopers.
The doors, facing her, open and the Librarian jumps out. His face, normally kind and smiling, is now dark and scowling.
"Ruby," he growls, "take this and stay behind me." The librarian then tosses her Crescent Rose (which she hugs and twirls). Ruby nodded and unsheathes the weapon, displaying the scythe in its pride and glory as she takes up the Librarian's rear.
"Troopers! What do you want with my friends?" he calls out, stepping towards the three gunmen.
They were all dumbfounded at the sudden appearance of the blue box. "Uh, are you with them?"
"Yes," he answers, waving his hand in front of himself. "And you will tell me all you know."
"…" The troopers look back and forth between themselves before turning back to the Librarian. "Did you just… try to use the Force."
The Librarian pauses, his hand still up. "Um. No?"
"The Force isn't real!" the leader laughs, raising his weapon.
"Eh, worth a shot." The Librarian sighs and raises his hands in surrender. "Weiss, six meters."
Huh?
Suddenly, ice spreads from underneath the gift shops's doors and spreads underneath their feet. Ruby's stance lowers, already recognizing the trick, and watches as the space between them and the stormtroopers begins to form a wall of ice. The soldiers are once again stupefied at this, watching as the ice rises from the floor and into the ceiling. Within seconds, they were trapped.
Ruby turns around and sees her partner (Weiss' Myrtenaster planted in the ground as well) giving a soft smirk.
"Seriously," she says, "why is it I'm the one always saving you?"
"Because I'm having the most fun!"
The Librarian sighs and gives a slight chuckle. "Good job for making it here."
"You could have just brought me in the T.A.R.D.I.S," Weiss comments, using her blade's pummel to smash open the glass doors. "Instead of having me run here!"
"I couldn't be sure if this place was surrounded or not," he explains. "If it was, I wanted you to take them out from behind."
"And who are they?"
Both Ruby and the Librarian answer, saying, "Stormtroopers."
Weiss sighed. "Forget I asked."
The soldiers began banging on the ice wall, trying to chisel at it with their guns. "The question is," the Librarian comments, kneeling down to check on Uncle Qrow, "is who sent them."
"That Dart Fader, guy?" Ruby offers.
The Librarian snorts and picks up the huntsman, tossing one of his arms around his shoulder. "Darth Vader? Maybe. But this isn't how I remember Stormtrooper's acting. It's more like a bunch of guys in costume, definitely not five-oh-first material."
"Five-oh-first?"
"Anyways," he continues," let's get everyone back into the T.A.R.D.I.S. The stun should wear off soon. And I haven't heard anything from Yang or Blake either."
Ruby and Weiss nod, each of them helping by opening the blue box's door's wider and helping carry the unconscious man inside.
"Do you know where they could be?" Weiss asks as their guide began to spin around the center console.
"No," he says. "But I can track your scrolls. Alien technology like that should be a beacon for the T.A.R.D.I.S to lock onto." The Librarian began to press a bunch of commands in front of the monitor, frowning. Peering over his shoulder, Ruby and Weiss watch as he pulls up a detailed map of the entire park. A radar sweep then forms, horizontally, which beeps loudly.
Ruby smiles. "You found them!"
"No. I just figured out they are in the park and haven't somehow snuck into the underground." A twist of a dial and the sweep rotates over an overhead view of the magic kingdom. "There we go. Let's see… Frontierland… Gotcha!"
The console beeps. "Tracking their scrolls now!" ELI declares. "Coordinates are 28.4189 North, 81.5832 West."
Moving with haste, the Librarian begins to spin around the console, pressing buttons and flipping switches. The ship lurches violently sideways, tossing the three Remnantees into the railing surrounding the center platform.
"Woah!" Ruby grabs ahold of the metal bars with both hands, thankful for the support. Wait, she thinks, if my arm is working, then-
Uncle Qrow gurgles, his body twitching. Slowly, he rises to his feet and moves drunkenly forward. "Ugh. That was worse than any hangover."
Ruby smiles, seeing her uncle back to his normal, grouchy, self was a huge relief.
Suddenly, the T.A.R.D.I.S freezes. Luckily, since they were already holding onto something, neither Ruby nor Weiss were flung forward. Uncle Qrow, however, was tossed against the interior doors.
"Yup. I'm ready to go home," he mumbles.
The Librarian rolls his eyes and helps him to his feet. "Relax, your still stuck here until I take you back." The strange man then grabs her uncle's sword from seemingly nowhere and holds it out to Uncle Qrow. "Ready to save some more kids?"
"Save them? I still don't even know what the hel… heck's going on," he says, stuttering as he sees Ruby. But he happily takes back his Harbinger.
"Me neither," the Librarian comments. "But someone was after you two specifically. Before we look into this, I want to make sure everyone is safe onboard. So once we find Blake and Yang, we can punish those who tried to hurt you and Ruby."
Weiss scoffs. "I wonder if it was me who was under duress, would you all act with such haste to save me?"
"Aww," Ruby smiles. "Of course! You're my BFF after all!"
The group then makes their way back outside. The Librarian and Uncle Qrow lead, putting their heads out of the door to survey the area, with Weiss and Ruby watching their backs. Slowly, the four of them exit the T.A.R.D.I.S and return to the busy streets of Disneyland.
Except it wasn't. There wasn't a single soul around. As they stood in front of a mountain, Ruby couldn't help but notice the abandoned strollers and food.
They left in a hurry, she realizes.
"Where are they?" Weiss asks. "You tracked them here, correct?"
"No…"
The Librarian's shoulders fell and he lets out a long sigh. "I followed their scrolls."
At his feet were the shattered remains of the devices. With no sign of their owners.
"They're gone."
-So… this was where last chapter was originally going to end. I didn't want to just post 5 pages of this story so I wrote out the rest of it and you can read it under this author's note. Again, I'm sorry about last time. I wasn't in the best frame of mind and didn't want to leave y'all hanging. I hope this makes up for it!-
Yang struggles against her bonds. Stupid! she thinks. I shouldn't have let myself get caught. And I should have kept Ember Silica with me! None of this wouldn't have happened if-
"Don't do that, Blake whispers, her back against Yang's.
"Do what?"
"Blame yourself. It wasn't your fault." The Faunus sighs and her head leans back, resting it against Yang's blonde hair. "It was my idea to follow that mascot. And I should have realized they were leading us into a trap."
Yang growls. "If I had my gauntlets, I could have saved us from them, though! And we wouldn't be stuck… wherever this is!"
The best word to describe their 'prison' was industrial. The walls and ceiling were all made from poured cement and pipes (varying from larger than her head to smaller than her hand) jutted through different sections of the room. It was very cramped with the other boxes of stuff stacked at their sides.
Before they were placed in here, tied to chairs with chains around their arms, legs, and waists, Blake and Yang had decided to trail the squirrel/chipmunk-man who dropped his head. But he most have noticed the duo. He led them behind one of the rides and when they followed, Yang and Blake were jumped by a bunch of workers.
Normally, they could have taken them easily. Even a grown male was no challenge for a huntress with her aura unlocked. Especially if they had their weapons. But, thanks to the Librarian, they didn't. And he had also told them to not do anything that could harm others.
Which is really stupid to ask if someone else is trying to hurt you, Yang thinks. The chains around her wrists bit tightly into her skin. Dammit!
"I am sure that our teammates and the Library will be here soon to rescue us," Blake says.
Yang nods. "Yeah. Ruby always won when we played hide-and-seek. And Weiss wouldn't want to waste a second if she can scold us."
Giggling, Blake agrees. "For sure." Then, in a low voice, "can you use your semblance?"
"No," Yang whispers back. "They didn't really hurt me all that much. And even with Aura, these chains are too strong. You?"
"Me neither. My semblance isn't good for this, though."
"We'll just find some other way to escape," Yang comments.
Blake shakes her chains and sighs. "If my parents could see me now… A Faunus in chains."
"Is that your species?" Faunus?"
The two girls jump slightly and look around. "Who said that?"
"Aww, shucks," the voice comments. "I should have just stayed quiet. Now we're going to have to resort to more drastic methods of making you talk." From the shadows, a tall, lanky, figure steps out.
"Whoever you are," Yang snarls, "if you hurt us, our friends will hurt you!"
The man gives a strange laugh. It almost sounds like hiccups. "In a way, that's exactly what we're hoping for."
"Anything on their scrolls?
"No," Ruby frowns. "Just a bunch of pictures of the Disney food they tried."
The Librarian sighs and jams his hands into his pockets. "Dang it."
Kneeling onto the ground, Qrow points at a small spot of blood. "Looks like there was probably more than one fighter. Otherwise I doubt Yang wouldn't have been able to handle an attacker, even if she didn't see it coming."
"But they could be anywhere by now. If their attackers know about the tunnels, Blake and Yang could be anywhere in the Magic Kingdom."
Qrow growls and rises to his feet. Stomping over to the Librarian, he grabs his jacket and slams him into the T.A.R.D.I.S doors. "If they're hurt in any way…"
"Shut up! Both of you!" Weiss yells. She had been silent for the last few minutes hoping that one of them would have an idea on what to do. Her team leader? Nope. The trained and listened huntsman? He didn't either. The man who could travel anywhere and anywhere? He seemed more surprised than anything! "My friends are missing and we need to find them. If we check their scrolls, it'll show what their Aura levels are like. Then we know they're alive."
The Librarian snapped his fingers. "Aura! I can't believe I almost forgot." He grabs at one of the scrolls in Ruby's hands and starts typing away at it.
"They're okay!" Ruby sighs, checking the one tied to her sister. "But their Aura is still in the green."
"That means they didn't get hurt too much," the Librarian realizes. A few taps of his fingers late, he holds out Blake's and smiles back to the trio. "And, thanks to the fact no one else on Earth has Aura, we can track it. I'll just-"
Riiiiing.
The Librarian and Ruby both dropped the scrolls in their hands. Riiiiing, the devices shouted again, vibrating on the ground.
"That's… not possible," the traveler whispered. "They operate on a different signal system. The only reason we could call each other is because I patched yours into the T.A.R.D.I.S."
"Well," Ruby realizes, pulling out her own scroll from her pocket, "it's happening to all of them. Someone must be broadcasting it to all of us."
Qrow growls. "They must be whoever took the kids."
"Then answer it!" Weiss yells. She pulls out her own as the others grab theirs (the Librarian picks up Blake's and Yang's) and press the answer icon.
"So they were not lying… there are more of you." The video icon slowly changed from static to pure darkness. A shadowy figure is facing the camera with a bunch of electronic equipment behind them. His voice was garbled and heavily pitched. "Is this all of you, then? Or are there as many of you as there are of us?"
"Them? Do you mean Yang or Blake?" Ruby asks. "Listen, we're just here to visit, we don't mean you any harm!"
"That means nothing to us. You shall surrender yourselves and hand over all your technologies. Or your friends will die."
Silently, the Librarian waves and pulls Weiss, Ruby, and Qrow back onto the T.A.R.D.I.S. When inside, he plugs in one of the scrolls to the console. 'Keep going', he mouths.
"We want proof they're alive first before we agree to anything," Qrow says.
The figure moves on the camera and they reveal their friends safe and unharmed.
"Blake!" Weiss yells at the same time Ruby exclaims, "Yang!"
"We're okay," the Faunus girl comments.
"The mascots aren't mascots!" Yang yells. "They're-"
Their kidnapper moves back into frame. "Shut them up! It's bad enough one of you morons revealed ourselves to them before we were ready."
The T.A.R.D.I.S shudders slightly. Wincing, the Librarian looks up and offers a silent apology as he runs around the center console. Yang's scroll flashes briefly with each pump of the time-rotor as they move through space.
"Ready?" Weiss asks. "For what? What is it you want with us?"
"What every creature wants."
"Weapons ready," the Librarian whispers as the room stops shaking. He rushes to the doors, with the Remnantee's falling behind him. With extreme silence, the doors are opened and they all step out.
The room was very much like the interior of a computer. Green and red lights blink on top of servers stacked to the ceiling. Wires were organized on the ground and against the corners, with power strips hanging from the ceiling. Blake and Yang were closest to them, with half a dozen cloaked-figures between them and the large computer screen.
Hesitantly, the Librarian, Qrow, Ruby, and Weiss crawl out and tiptoe forward towards their friends.
The leader whirls around, and points a gun at the quartet. "Freedom."
"They're waking up."
The Librarian winces as he feels every part of his body tingle and awaken. A Star Wars blaster set to stun, though wouldn't kill them, still hurt a lot. Especially at point-blank range.
Though that begs the question: why was it set to stun?
Blake's voice again. "Give them some space."
As he sat up, the Librarian was finally able to grasp his new location. Yang and Blake were on their knees, helping their teammates and friends to sit up. It seems that he was the last one to awake, possibly due to being closest to the initial blast. The room, on the other hand, looks like a large boiler room. Though the main doors have been replaced with large bars.
"What happened?" Weiss asks. "The last thing I remember is-"
"It was a trick," the Librarian realizes. He slowly rises to his feet, rubbing his legs as he regains his footing. "Somehow they saw us coming. Are you two okay?"
Both girls nod. "We're fine," Yang answers. "But I'm really starting to hate this place."
Qrow stretches. "Ugh. I hate that. Twice in one day." He suddenly notices the blonde and wraps her in a hug (Ruby was already doing so). "Hey kid. You good?"
"I'll be better when I beat up these creeps," she answers, patting her uncle on the back. "What's the plan, Li-Bri?"
"Li-Bri?"
"It was either that or Larry," the blonde smirks. "Not a lot of easy puns for 'librarian'."
The Librarian rolls his eyes. He places his hands behind his back, rubbing his wrists. Watch is gone too, he realizes. They probably took everyone's weapons as well. That means they recognize higher technology.
"Any idea who these monsters are?" Weiss asks.
"Yeah, they're the mascots."
"Makes sense," the Librarian realizes. "Best way to hide your face is to put on a mask. And Disney has laws about their workers being out of costume."
"No," Blake frowns. "They're actually them!"
Ruby cocks her head to the side. "What do you mean?"
"She means," a small, gruff yet high-pitched voice answers, "that the costumes are just reflections of what lies beneath."
The Librarian's eyes widen as he looks between the bars of their cell. Barely half his height, wearing a red suit, was a small blue creature with four arms.
"Though I'm sure our true selves are just as recognizable."
"Stitch?"
The creature from, well, Lilo and Stitch, raises one of its hands, blaster in palm, and points it at him. "Great… a fanboy. Want me to say 'ohana means family'?"
"Who are you?" Asks Ruby. "Are you one of the bad guys?"
"Bad guys? No. There are no 'bad guys'." Stitch lowers his weapon. "We only wish to be free."
"Free? Free from what?"
Suddenly, a soft ringing begins to pulsate throughout the greater building. A door opens and Stitch turns around, morphing back into his more human-like form, putting himself at attention. "Lord Farer," he greets.
"At ease, guardian."
The Librarian recognizes that voice. There wasn't a kid alive who didn't know that high-pitched squeak. Heck, most adults could recognize it.
"Mickey Mouse," he greets with a smile. "It truly is an honor."
The 'man' who had shot them earlier had removed his robe. Sure enough, the highly recognized king of Disney stood proudly, wearing his sorcerer's apprentice outfit (minus the hat). His white gloves seemed to glow in the dark light and his two large ears twitched. Though they weren't animated, the bodies of both Mickey and Stitch were similar to the transition the Librarian and seen in the live-action Sonic movie.
The good one, of course, he thought.
Mickey smiles and waves at the alien guard, signaling for Stitch to move to the side. "I wish I could say the same about you, stranger. Though I am surprised that a visitor like you knows about our simple kingdom."
"Know about you? Why wouldn't I?"
Qrow leans over the Librarian's shoulder. "Isn't this the guy in that statue we saw earlier?"
"So you recognize me. But your companions do not," the mouse comments. "That isn't surprising. From the genetic material we got from your menus, we can tell you are human. Though those you travel with are not. They are human-ish, with the exception of the woman with cat ears."
Wincing, Blake made an unconscious motion to cover her bow. "How did you know?"
"We've been monitoring you since you arrived," Mickey answers. "You have the key to our puzzle."
"What key? To what problem?" Ruby moves up to the bars, back straight and leading the charge just like she would back home. "If you just asked us, we would have helped."
Mickey shook his head. "I'm afraid we could not take that chance. You shall stay here until we are ready to leave. I only wished to ensure you were unharmed before we did so. The last thing I'd want on my mind is the fact we caused the death of our aid."
"So you're trying to leave? Why? Are you not from here?" The Librarian's mind spun. Aliens. It's always aliens. "Why couldn't you use your own ship?"
"Silence," Stitch snaps. "The Farer has graced you with his presence. Do not request more of what has been given."
It took every ounce of control not to roll his eyes. "Farer? As in the first to travel? That must be why you're the leader, but why did you come here?"
"It was… an accident." Mickey sighs and places his hands behind his back. "Yes, I was the first. We are, we're, two-dimensional beings traversing new realities. I was one of many who volunteered to explore, though what happened to the others, I do not know. Due to our… dimensional hopping, I was reduced to something without form. I could not exist completely in this reality. But a young boy was able to 'feel' my presence and befriend me."
"Let me guess. Walt?"
The mouse nodded. "Yes. Young Walter Elias would take our connection and soon give me physical being. His imagination was so powerful, that it took my unformed essence and gave it physicality. In exchange, I took away his pain and sorrow."
"That's why there weren't any crying kids," Weiss says. "You leach our negative emotions!"
"Like anti-Grimm," Blake adds.
Or vampires.
"Over time, through his imagination, more of us were able to find life here. Our home was ruined by stupidity and the entire expedition was in search of a new home. Thankfully, we did. Walter created forms for us as well as homes we could enjoy."
The Librarian frowned. "But he died. That should have led to your vanishing."
"Yes. That is what we had hoped. But due to the extravagant nature of our abode, as well as our publicized manner, we have been stuck on these forms due to the thousands and millions of others who now envision us this way."
So as long as there are Imagineers and Disney movies, they'll be stuck like this?
"Then why do you want to leave?" Yang frowns. "You've got a home, you've got your people, why do you want to go somewhere else?"
"Because these forms are crude and childish!" Mickey snaps. "Imagine being entrapped as a walking mouse for decades! My people and I are unallowed to be who we are. Stuck as that which the world imagines us with no freedom to be ourselves."
The Remnantees frown. "So you're not planning to invade the next world? Or kill the people here in vengeance?" Ruby asks.
Stitch snorts. "Like it'll be worth our time. Now that we've got your ship, we've got the last piece needed for our plan."
"You're not getting into my T.A.R.D.I.S unless I say you can," the Librarian comments. "If you plan on using it to travel to a new world, I'm afraid that won't work. I and my friends already see you as Disney characters. And if we take you to a new dimension or universe, you'll be stuck like that until we die and the mental anchor vanishes. And if any animal or other species perceives you like this, you'll be back to where you started. Not to mention that you view each other this way now."
"Our species cannot affect each other's form. Only outsiders can do that," Mickey explains. "And we do not need access to your ship yet, our own is near readiness."
"Then what do you want with our box?" Qrow asks with a slight snarl.
"Your ship can affect the perception and memory of those around it."
The Librarian gasps. For beings whose forms are based on mental imagery… "You want to harness the T.A.R.D.I.S' perception filter to make everyone forget about you."
"Yes," Mickey nods. He motions to his brethren. "With no one to remember us in these forms, we will be free to travel and find new forms in other planes of existence."
"But… what'll happen to this place?" Weiss asks. "Are you just going to abandon it?"
"And what about the people who view you as icons? Or about Mr. Walt? If you make everyone forget about you, what'll happen to them? Or history?"
Mickey pauses but shrugs. "They will most likely forget we exist. Walter Disney's name will be forgotten and this prison will be burned down after realizing there is no need for it."
Grabbing the bars, the Librarian does his best to lean toward the mouse. "It'll do worse than that. Those who worked here will no longer remember large sections of their lives. The children whose brains have only formed imprints through Disney movies will revert to an infant-like mindset at best. Heck, a lot of adults base their concept of good and evil around Disney's concepts. You're taking away some of the most important teachings in a kid's life!"
"They will have enough from other experiences to remain themselves," the Disney-icon comments coldly. "I'm sure they'll be fine."
"Will they?" Qrow asks. "Are you positive? Or are you just hoping it'll be since you can now bug out? What happened to not needing the deaths of people on your conscience?"
"They will not die."
Ruby frowns. "But they won't be themselves."
Having enough, Mickey spins on his heel and marches back the way he came. "That is why you shall remain her until we leave. Your ship will be in the Tomorrowland rocket. After our exodus, you are free to leave. The door is set to a timer."
With that, the icon of childhood left the Librarian, Qrow, and four young girls trapped in a cell.
"So what's the plan?" Yang whispers. She and her friends had huddled together in the furthest corner. Their guard was still there and she didn't want him to learn about their plans.
"Well," the Librarian says," there's no need for secrecy. Stitch's hearing is pretty good, so I doubt being hushed will help."
Outside the bars, the blue creature snarls slightly.
Blake sighs. "We still need a plan, then, correct? If you're right, then they are trying to leave will only cause damage to this world."
"Yes… but that would just be trapping them here. I'd be no better than them, forcing people into a prison."
Weiss sighs. "You are better than them. You're wanting to prevent people from being hurt. They are only looking to better their lives at the cost of others."
"Yeah," Ruby smiles. "Besides, you didn't greet us with a gun. They did. And if they really wanted help, they wouldn't have captured us. The reason we're here is because they don't want us to stop them. If this really was going to be peaceful and unharmful, they wouldn't have locked us up!"
Qrow ruffles his niece's hair. "When did you get so smart, kiddo?"
Clapping his hands, the Librarian begins to pace around the room. "The first step is to escape. Then finding our gear. Then getting the T.A.R.D.I.S and leaving after ensuring they can't create their own perception filter."
"Okay," Blake agrees. "But how do we get out of here? And neither Yang or I have our stuff to help fight back."
"Actually… you're exactly who we need to escape."
Slowly, the Librarian starts making hand signals. By placing his back to the cell entrance, he makes sure that Stitch cannot watch. But as everyone studies his movements, they have no way of confirming whether or not they translated correctly. A few moments later, he claps his hands again once more and smiles. "Understood?"
"I think so?"
"Yes."
"Let's hope this works."
"I'ma kick that mouse in the face!"
"Aye, aye."
One moment, all six prisoners were in the cell. The next, one was running through the bars and turning towards the entrance.
How did they do that? the creature called Stitch questions. He runs forward, jumping to the ceiling and using all six limbs to quicken his pace. No matter. They'll be returned immediately. Stitch approached the running figure and lept down on her, only to fall through air and crash face first into the ground.
"How the-?"
A tap on his shoulder led the alien to turn his head to the side.
"Next time, know who you try to kidnap!" Yang yells, slamming her fist into his face. With a puppy-like whimper, he sails across the room and slides across the floor until his head hits the wall.
Definitely unconscious.
Yang blows on her fist and smirks. "Good thing these idiots didn't know about our semblances." She turns back to see her uncle crawling through the bent cell bars that she had pulled apart. "Or Aura."
The Librarian nods in agreement. "Let's find the weapons then head to Tomorrowland." The rest of the group nods and they all quickly rush up a set of stairs that lead to a large room filled with the mascot costumes.
Suits, she corrects. Ruby ran past her, ignoring the costumes, and rushing to one of the tables that holds her scythe (and the other weapons) on it.
"I'll never leave you behind again," she whispers, stroking it against her cheek.
Weiss rolls her eyes as she sheaths her blade around her waist. "You didn't even show Yang that much attention when you woke up.
"Yang will always be fine. But losing Crescent Rose is a nightmare!" her partner pouts.
Once everyone had their gear returned (minus Blake and Yang), the group crept outside of the building. A quick glance at their surroundings and even Yang could tell they were in the Toontown attraction. The wacky designs of the buildings as well as cartoon-y townhouse made it easy to tell.
"Okay, so we're going to split up and come at them in three different directions," the Librarian offered, pointing at the large map of the entire park ahead of them. "Should we stick with the groups we were with earlier?"
"Works for me," Yang smirked, smashing her fists together and looking up at Blake. "We've got some unfinished business with them." Blake nods in agreement.
Qrow, on the other hand was less sure. "You two going to be okay this time?"
The blonde rolls her eyes. "Yes Dad."
Chuckling, the Librarian shakes his head in amusement. "Good. So, Yang and Blake, you two come down from the north and move to the right, coming down to Tomorrowland by hugging the train tracks. Ruby and Qrow will follow Weiss and I as we head down through Fantasyland. But we'll continue down and head to Main Street before turning right into the area. You two stay near the left of Fantasy and move directly into Tomorrow. We'll go in first. Qrow and Ruby will watch our backs."
"Blake and Yang, if something happens, you two need to run into the T.A.R.D.I.S, get your stuff, and tell ELI to activate the Yoki protocol. That'll bring her right to me."
Yang's fist lower slowly. "So, we're not helping?"
"I need you two to bring the calvary in case anything happens. If we get caught, Qrow and Ruby will be next. Then they'll be looking for you two. Hopefully, they will think you're hiding. That's why you need to get inside the T.A.R.D.I.S as quickly as possible."
Sighing, Yang looks down in dismay. Blake, however, puts her hand on her shoulder. "Hey, it's a good plan. Besides, we can make sure nobody sneak up on them from our side."
"Fine."
"Then we're all in agreement." The Librarian looks into the eyes of each member of the group. "I'm sorry I brought you all into this. But I hope this'll make it up to you."
Ruby mimics Blake's compassion and pats him on the shoulder. "Hey, we wanted adventure and you have it to us. We should be thanking you. This has been the greatest birthday gift ever."
The Librarian smiles. "Thanks. Now who's ready to kick some Disney butt?!"
"Yeah!"
"Everyone's scroll's working?"
Qrow, along with his nieces and their teammates, all gave a resounding 'yes' to the Librarian's question. He and Ruby had only just broken off from Weiss's group and were currently making their way back behind the Star Tours ride.
Almost feels like that was months ago.
He and Ruby already have their weapons in hand, preparing for whatever attackers may come by. But so far… nothing. No visitors and no Disney-themed aliens.
"Do you think it's going to be like this every time?" Ruby asks.
"Every time?"
His niece nods. "Yeah. Like every time we go someplace with the Librarian. Every world or universe of time he takes us to, is it always going to be this dangerous?"
"Ruby, what makes you think there's going to be a next time?"
"… what do you mean?"
Qrow sighs and crouches behind a bush. In front of them lies what they were told is a rocket ship. Underneath it is the T.A.R.D.I.S, though now with cables attached to its exterior. "Well, after all that happened today, why would he even take you places? This was supposed to be a relaxing trip. A literal vacation. But now we're fighting mice and who knows what else."
"But that's fun!" Ruby whispers back as she crouches next to him, placing her rifle up and peering through the scope. "Sure it's dangerous, but no more dangerous than fighting Grimm or Torchwick. And the Librarian knows pretty much everything about where he takes us."
"Really? He seemed pretty unknowledgeable for this one."
Ruby rolls her eyes. Both then turn to watch over the area as the Librarian and Weiss start creeping their way towards the spaceship and the blue box underneath it.
Still nothing, he frowns. He scratches his wrist, careful to avoid the Aura-suppressor the Librarian gave him. Is this going to work?
Apparently, no matter the universe, and no matter what fancy bracelet he was or wasn't wearing, Qrow's luck was just as bad here as it was a few weeks ago.
Seven small men suddenly jumped out from the inside of trash cans, surrounding the Librarian and Weiss. Both of them quickly fell into positions, Weiss with her blade held up while he dropped into some weird martial-arts stance Qrow didn't recognize.
Ruby starts to rise, her hands moving to shift her weapon from gun to scythe-mode. However, Qrow grabs her arm and pulls her back down. "Not yet," he orders. "They'll probably have other people looking for us too. If we rush in blind, we could just be running into a trap."
Sighing, his niece listens to him, and sits back down. She grumbles a bit, but makes no move to jump out.
Just like her mother, he thinks. Always ready to protect everyone without care for her own safety.
A quick scan of the area didn't help Qrow locate anyone else. If there were any other foes, he couldn't see them. With a sigh, he leaned back, only for something small and furry to rub itself against his leg. Holding back a yelp, he carefully and slowly looks down, expecting some half-pint-sized warrior.
Instead, there's a cat. An orange-furred kitten was nuzzling against his leg with only the faintest of purrs. A freaking normal cat.
Ruby follows his gaze and gives a (whispered) squeal of excitement. "It's so cute!"
"Aren't you a dog person?" he smirks, picking up the cat by the scruff of its neck.
She shrugs. "What Zwei doesn't know won't kill him."
Qrow chuckles and studies the cat. "He is pretty cute too."
"Who are you calling cute?" it snaps, swiping at him with its claws. This time, Qrow did yelp, falling backwards and tossing the cat away.
Rushing to his side, Ruby helps him to his feet as he rubs where the claws had struck. "Did that cat just talk?"
"Yeah," Qrow groaned. He stared at the shaking bushes and reached for his weapon. "Something tells me it's not on our side."
"C'mon, Uncle Qrow. We can handle one little cat."
As the cat emerges, it brings with it a small posse. Five other dogs, ranging in breeds and sizes, emerge from the bush. "Hey, you take on one of us, you take on all of us!" the smallest dog growls.
"Make that five dogs and a cat," Ruby mutters, holding her scythe up over her shoulder.
"Count again," a deep voice interrupts.
Qrow whirls around, putting his back against Ruby's as two giant felines emerge and begin to encircle the duo. The first had a bright red mane while the other's was black and had a scar on his one eye. Qrow sighs and mutters, "you had to open your mouth."
Blake knew immediately that Yang wasn't going to listen when they saw the gunman. After they had merged into the wildlife surrounding the park, Yang had taken the lead and smashed her way through the flora, grumbling about being back-benched just because they didn't have their weapons.
"We still have our Aura and semblances!" she hisses. "The Librarian doesn't even have that. And I can still punch and hit as good as him!"
"Yang, he's just looking out for us. Besides, if everything works out, there won't be any need for our weapons."
The blonde pauses and turns to Blake. "Yeah. And I'm sure that the aliens are just going to apologize and give us medals."
Blake snorts and while she didn't say so, does agree with Yang's comment. With their luck, it was more likely that a Grimm could be domesticated rather than befriending those who had kidnapped them.
But that doesn't mean we should expect the worst. That'll never lead to anything good.
Something rustled in the green, causing both girls to freeze. They crouch and slow down. Blake moves to the front, the expert on covert movement.
"What do you see?"
Blake's eyes focus as she moves around a tree. There, across from them and forming a perimeter atop the rail tracks, are two men. The first was a blonde who was wearing some bulky armor. In his hands was a rifle. It was an old-fashioned one that could only fire a single shot at a time.
The other person wore a drastically different form of armor. His designs were more artistic and made from leather. A helmet with a single, red plume was resting in the cook of his shoulder. And at his waist was a sword with a strangely shaped gold guard.
Blake moves back behind the tree. "Two of them. Both have weapons. One uses a gun while the other has a sword. I'm guessing they are warriors, or, at least, trained soldiers."
"Any others?"
Blake shook her head. "No. But-"
Whatever words she was going to use to try and calm Yang down were lost to time. The blonde was already moving by the time she opened her mouth and was halfway between their hiding spot and the two figures.
Gods dammit.
Yang lets out a loud roar as she jumps at the two men. The blonde man turns with a shocked expression and slowly raises his firearm. But Yang was too fast. She rips it free from his grasp and swings it sideways, clocking his partner on the side of his head.
The helmeted-man fell sideways, falling on his side. Taking that as a sign of them being out of commission, Yang turns back to the first man who grabbed a knife from his pocket.
"Listen, we don't want any trouble. Just stand down and let us go," he says calmly.
Yang, on the other hand, wasn't. "Or else what? You're going to lock us up again? Fry our brains too?"
"What does that mean?"
Blake noticed the man at Yang's feet move, but was too slow to stop it. With a sweeping kick, they knock Yang down and quickly jump to their own feet. Almost as fast as a Huntress, he unsheathes his sword and swings it in front of Yang's neck and places his foot on her stomach. During the motion, his helmet flies off, revealing a long head of raven hair.
She, not he, Black realizes. The woman in armor frowns at Yang and pushes on her harder. "John, check to see if the others are coming this way."
The man, John, nods and picks up his rifle. "Yes, ma'am."
"Yes, I know they are dwarves, and there are seven of them," Weiss hisses and she places her back to the Librarian's and rotates. "But what are they?"
The Librarian shook his head. "The seven dwarves. Sneezy, Grumpy, Bashful, Dopey, Sleepy, Doc… and… shoot, I can never remember them all."
"I'm Happy!" one of them grins psychotically, heaving his pickaxe to his side. "And it's going to put a smile on my face to see my pick buried in your chest!"
"Jesus," the Librarian gulps. "Aren't you from a kid's cartoon?"
One of the dwarves, Sneezy, Weiss guesses, sneezes. "We're from the 30's. We knew how to punish stubborn brats like you."
Weiss raises an eyebrow. "Okay then… Can I attack them now?"
"You're starting to sound like Yang… but yeah. Just be careful, they don't have Aura."
The Schnee heiress gives a quick nod before lifting her blade in front of her. A quick spin of the barrel allows her to pick a new round of dust.
Fire. With a swing of her weapon, glyphs form on the ground around them, directly under the feet of the seven dwarves. They barely have enough time to look down before semi-large explosions blossom beneath them. Flashes of reds and oranges send them flying upwards and backwards, leaving her and the Librarian untouched.
However, the dwarves quickly pull themselves to their feet. "You think that's gonna stop us?! We are used to the flames of a good fire. This ain't nothing."
Weiss smirks and revolves her cartridges again. This time, she picked her specialty. "How good are you on ice?" she asks, turning to her compatriot.
The Librarian simply nods and crouches. Planting Myrtenaiser into the ground, she summons another glyph and ice spreads across the ground in every direction. The reaction is instant. The dwarves that were pulling themselves to their feet suddenly fall back down on their rears. The Librarian, on the other hand, took the change with ease. He jumped forwards as the ice spread, sliding towards his T.A.R.D.I.S.
"Go easy on them!" he cries as he slips away. "I'll try to disassemble their machine."
Weiss nods. "Understood!" She plants her heels, digging them into the ice, and waves her blade like a composer. Seven small glyphs form around her in a circle, bursting ice forward and quickly freezing over the feet and lungs of her enemies.
"C-c-cold!" one of them cries, dropping his pickaxe.
Another tries to swing his own at her, but it falls short and simply slides to her feet. "Drop something?" she asks.
Weiss knew better than to let her guard down, even when she had 'won'. So when the sound of something scraping against the ice reached her ears, she quickly dashed to the side and spun around.
Awake once again, Stitch jumps at her, mouth of razor-sharp teeth ready to bite. Her blade moves before she can think, parrying his mouth. Falling to the ground, Stitch continues to try and twist her rapier away as it stays stuck between his teeth.
"Let go!"
Weiss and Stitch go back and forth for a few moments, each of them using their respective heels and claws to try and gain ground. While she held the height advantage, he was stronger - even with her Aura-enhanced strength. The blue creature growls and suddenly tugs at the blade, biting its edge. She goes sprawling, somersaulting over him. Quickly spinning around, Weiss watches in horror as he plucks Myrtenaiser from the ground and uses its point to pick at his teeth.
"Disgusting!" she hisses.
Stitch smirks. "Watch'ya going to do about it?" He swishes it around before grabbing it with all four hands. The metal began to bend slightly as he pushes the two ends closer together.
Something in Weiss' heart snaps as she sees her prized possession get defiled. "No!" she roars, flinging her hand upwards. A glyph forms in her palm, silver and shining. In front of her, another similar one burst alight.
The blue alien pauses briefly. "What the?" he asks, only for a beowolf to crash into him. Unlike the ones from home, this one was white as snow.
And completely under Weiss' control.
A Summon! I did it! I finally Summoned a Grimm! Despite the situation, Weiss was now filled with euphoria. This was the first time she had been able to successfully work this aspect of her semblance. And nobody is here to see it…
Her focus broke and the Summon, which was atop of Stitch and slamming him into the ground with its front paws, froze. Then it disappeared into a small pile of snow flurries.
Stitch was unconscious as Weiss stepped towards him. His six limbs were spread across the ground and his mouth hung open. Luckily, his grip on her blade was loose enough for her to pry it free. She quickly checks it for any warping or lasting damage. There appeared to be none.
Sighing, Weiss sheaths the weapon. It was at this moment that the familiar sound of a blaster firing fills her ears. She doesn't react quick enough, feeling the energy bolt smash into her back and everything went black.
Ruby didn't want to kick the kitten. Or the puppies. But as they continued to try and bite and scratch at them, distracting both her and her Uncle Qrow from the lions, she knew she had no choice.
"I'm sorry," she whispers to the small creatures. The cat cocks it's head to the side briefly before Ruby's boots slam into its body, sending it spiraling upwards.
"Oliver!" One of the dogs, the one wearing a red scarf, turns to Ruby and growls (literally!). "You bi-"
Uncle Qrow kicks that dog. "That's funny, coming from you," he interrupts. The dog squeals as it too goes flying. Turning to the other dogs, Uncle Qrow plants his sword in the ground and cocks his head. "Who's next?"
The remaining dogs quickly deduce they don't have much of a chance and turn around. "We'll be back!" they cry as they, quite literally, run away with their tails between their legs.
"Pushovers," Uncle Qrow smirks.
The lion then jumps on his back and sends him crashing to the ground. Ruby calls out to her uncle and rushes forward. Out of the corner of her eye, she sees the other giant feline (the one with the scar) pounce at her. Her semblance activates and Ruby, at four-times the normal speed, backpedals in a flurry of rose petals. The lion flies past from her, sliding across the ground (its claws making a horrible, scratching sound) until it slams against a trash can.
"Scar!" the first lion… well, roars. It jumps from Uncle Qrow's back - who grunts as he is now used as a launching pad - and crouches next to its partner. "Are you alright?"
"I'm fine," Scar grumbles, shaking his mane.
Uncle Qrow rises to his feet, using his Harbinger as support. "His name is seriously Scar? What's yours? Red?"
Scar growls and places a paw forward. However, the other lion steps in front of him. "My true name is inaudible in this dimension. You may refer to me as Mufasa, the character who I embody."
"Ooh," Ruby shudders. "Now that's power."
"Mufasa," the lion repeats, a visible smirk on his lips.
She giggles.
Across from her, Scar rolls his eyes. "I'm surrounded by idiots."
"Wait, aren't we supposed to be fighting?" Uncle Qrow asks, his sword dipping.
"We aren't the ones trying to ruin everything," the dark-maned lion growls. "You're the ones attacking us."
"Because you kidnapped us!" Ruby yells back. Kind of. "And if you guys use the perception filter, it could hurt a lot of people!"
"Lies!"
Mufasa frowns. "What do you mean?"
"Um, from what we understood, since you guys are so important to people's basic life lessons, if they all forget you, it could send their entire mentally falling."
"Like a card house and a puff of air," Uncle Qrow nods.
The two lions turn to each other. "He promised that no one would be hurt."
"Are you seriously going to listen to them?" Scar scoffs. "They could be lying!"
Mufasa shakes his mane. "But you have to agree… There has been something off about the Farer. He has become more reclusive, working on projects with the engineers for the past few months."
"…" The smaller lion ponders for a moment. "Quasimodo has been missing for a while…"
"Don't you see?" Ruby asks. "That mouse guy is willing to do whatever it takes to get away from here. He doesn't care about anything or anyone as long as he accomplishes his goal!"
"But is he not doing this for the good of us? So we can be ourselves?" Even as he said it, Scar's voice became less and less confident.
Uncle Qrow slowly steps forward. The two lions crouch, expecting an attack. "If he truly cared, why would he send you out to take us on while he's getting ready to run away?"
"…"
Suddenly, he fell to the ground as a blue ring struck his side. Ruby gasps and quickly swings her scythe out. Stormtroopers, led by a bipedal fox with a bow and the small silver and blue droid that greeted her at Star Tours, quickly rush to surround her. Taken aback, the huntress-in-training does her best to dodge all the incoming laser blasts. But they soon become too much.
"Help me!" she cries out, sparing a glance at the two lions. Since the attack started, they had been frozen. "Please!"
They did nothing.
She swung and hit a Stormtrooper that got too close, cracking his armor. "Davis!" one of them yelled. The number of energy blasts become more erratic.
I can do it! Ruby thought as she dodged more and more, taking down more of the white-clad warriors. But as she jumps backwards, her leg was grazed by one of the stunning blasts. She crumbles to the ground, trying to pull herself away. Not again!
With a beep and a whirl, R2D2 rolls up to her. One of its compartments opens, revealing an electrified prong. It whistles and jabs into her side. Ruby spasms and her eyes close.
Taken, once again.
Yang was pissed. She had been kidnapped, knocked unconscious, rescued, and now, after fighting someone with no Aura, she lost.
Lost!
And she also sold out Blake. If she hadn't rushed in, they could have just avoided the two soldiers. Hell, they could have probably taken them together and got this over with.
Instead, she was now on the ground with this girl holding a sword to her neck. Her partner, John, was now looking among the forest for anyone who might be hiding. Blake was good, but Yang was still worried about her partner. Especially since neither of us had any gods-dammed weapons!
"What do you plan on doing with us?" Yang spits.
The woman with the sword shrugs. "That is not for me to decide. The Farer has declared you to be captured, and so you will be."
"You don't even know why?"
"It does not matter to me."
Yang growls and tries to sit up, but the woman's sword moves closer to her neck. "Don't," she whispers. "Or I might just remove your head from your body."
"That might be difficult," Yang smirks. I hope Blake will be okay, she thinks as she makes her move. Her hand snaps up, grabbing the sword by the blade, and she slowly twists it to the side.
Her opponent's eyes widen in shock, even more so at the lack of blood on her blade. Her surprise causes her hand to slip and Yang quickly rips it free. The sword goes flying, landing somewhere in the forest cover.
Jumping to her feet, Yang dodges as the woman in armor takes a swing at her. It was wild and unrefined. Easy to dodge. But as she did, the sound of an explosion, followed by a sudden impact on her back, sends her flying forwards.
She eats dirt and faceplants into the ground. Groaning, Yang turns around to see John reloading his rifle. Her Aura flashes as she rises slowly and tanks a second shot.
Those are the slowest, fattest bullets I have ever seen.
"How is she not dead!?" he asks, incredulous.
Yang rises to her knees and gives a dark smile. Her eyes flash red and she punches her fist. "Simple. This Yang has got a bigger bang than that little toy gun of yours." With the enhanced speed from both her Aura and the adrenaline, Yang runs past the woman in armor and rips the gun free from John's hands. She easily bends the metal in her hands like putty and turns the barrel of his gun into a knot.
Then she hits him in the stomach.
Granted, she was holding back. A lot. But he still crumbled in half like a piece of paper. Spittle flies out and his eyes roll backward before John falls unconscious onto the floor.
Easy, she smirks.
The other Disney impersonator hisses. "You'll pay for that!"
Yang scoffs and cracks her knuckles. "There ain't nothing you can do to even hurt me."
She charges forward. Yang does so in kind. Both run at respectable speeds, charging at each other with hands raised. As Yang leaps forward, the other girl drops lower and slides beneath her legs.
Huh?
By the time Yang turns around, her opponent has already made her way into the forest. With a growl, Yang speeds off after her. Leaves, twigs, branches, and other greenery smack at her face as she chases her down. The woman disappears for a moment, ducking behind a tree. As Yang turns to follow, she stops to watch as Blake kicks her in the chest and knocks her down as she swings from one of the tree's branches.
Both Blake and the woman tumble across the ground. Yang's partner lands on her feet, as always, and picks up something metallic from the ground.
Her sword! Yang realizes. That's what she was after.
Testing its weight, Blake flips the sword upwards before grabbing its hilt and pointing the blade at their opponent.
Yang smiles and raises a fist. "Led her right to you!"
"I think you almost let her escape and get help, while I stopped her," Blake says.
"That's just what I wanted her to think."
"Right." The cat-Faunus turns back to the woman, whose arms were now held above her head in surrender. "Do you know who we are?"
"You're the ones trying to keep us stuck here in these bodies," she answers with a glare. "All we want is to be ourselves, live our own lives."
"But that should not come at the cost of the inhabits of this world," Blake counters.
"What do you mean?"
Blake looks up at Yang and frowns. "They don't know."
Yang shrugs. "It doesn't matter. We're trying to save lives while they are trying to ruin them. That makes them the bad guys."
"No," the woman whispers. Her hands drop to the ground and she crosses her legs. "All that does is make us unknowing. I apologize for attacking you without cause, but we were told you would not show mercy. Please, tell me your tale. My name is Mulan. And if you are telling the truth, then perhaps I may be able to help."
Unlike the Doctor, who was a pacifist and tried to avoid the use of direct weaponry, the Librarian had no such qualms. But he wasn't like the huntsmen and huntresses he had invited onto his ship, keeping their armaments on their persons at (almost) all times. Instead, he kept a simple set of weapons hidden inside the T.A.R.D.I.S console room.
Which isn't much good when you're not inside of it!
The Librarian frantically pulls at the wires connecting his ship to the rocket above him. After leaving Weiss to deal with the seven dwarves, he had sped away to ensure that Mickey Mouse's plan wouldn't work.
And, yes, that did sound just as crazy to him as it would to anyone else.
Weiss can handle them. Her Aura will protect her and she has real combat training. I'm guessing these guys have just been relaxing at Disneyland and playing their characters until now. Outside of Stitch or the Stormtroopers, I doubt they even have that many fighters.
But his vast knowledge of Disney betrayed him. There were dozens of villains, and even heroes, to pick from that could be difficult to deal with. The huntsman from Snow White. Maleficent. Chernabog. Jafar! Hercules!
"Oh crap, what if they have Genie?" he gasps, his hands pausing as he twists the cooper filament into a single strand. "No. If they could use magic, they would have done so already. Besides, the Stormtroopers said that the Force isn't real here. So they probably only have access to physical forms and capabilities, nothing mystical."
The Librarian chuckles and resumes his work. Yellow to green, green to yellow. Red can go unconnected. Gotta make sure I don't touch the grounders. His hands spun frantically as he did his best to sabotage the device. When he finishes, he quickly reattached the panel, using his watch to sonic it back into place.
He hears footsteps. "It says one of them is over here! Split up!"
Crouching, the Librarian moves back towards the blue box and hides behind it. A quick peak and he notices the familiar shape of Count Frodo leading a group of old, French soldiers.
Never did like that guy, he thinks. Slowly and carefully, he rotates around the T.A.R.D.I.S, making sure none of the soldiers notice him. He reaches the doors and gives a sigh of relief. The door opens and he rushes inside.
"Did you find them?" ELI asks as he enters.
The Librarian nods and rushes to a small pillar. The architecture swings open as he presses on a small rivet, revealing a small selection of weapons. His hand goes for one instinctively but freezes. No. Not until my promise has been kept. The Librarian's eyes scan across the selection and stops at a pair of gauntlets.
"That'll work," he whispers, grabbing the black sleeves and sliding them over his wrists and onto his arms. He quickly covers them with the sleeves of his jacket before grabbing a box from the bottom labeled 'fun boom-boom sticks from across the multiverse'.
Backup plan already in place, he rushes out the door.
"Good luck!"
I don't need- The Librarian freezes as a blade of energy ignites in front of him. The familiar hum and heat of a lightsaber makes him gasp in fear and excitement. Stepping out from beside the T.A.R.D.I.S, Anakin Skywalker holds his blue blade across the Librarian's neck.
"Surrender," the chosen one growls.
"Okay," the Librarian smiles. He drops the box to the ground, noticing the flinching of the French soldiers as the explosives hit the ground. "Any chance I could not get shot this time? It's getting really annoying and I keep feeling like-"
Anakin slams the hilt of his lightsaber into the side of the Librarian's head and he falls to the ground.
At least I'll only get a headache, were his last thoughts before the darkness took hold.
When they awoke, they found themselves staring up at the stars instead of another concrete cell. The Librarian, Ruby, Weiss, and Qrow all groan from the different throbs in their heads from their forceful sleep. Unlike before, their weapons were still on their persons, but impossible to grab in their current predicament.
"Everyone alright?" Qrow gurgles, sitting up first as he is the most used to this feeling.
The Librarian does next. "Yeah." He sits up and tries to bring his arms up. But his, and everyone's, hands were encased in metal gloves and connected by chains behind their backs. "But I think they figured out you all have powers."
"No kidding," Weiss whispers as she and Ruby rise at the same time. "I'm starting to think you don't know what you are doing."
"I know what I'm doing! I just don't know what I'm starting with," the Librarian counters.
Ruby frowns and looks around. "Where are we?" She gasps. "Where's Yang?"
The group of four spin their heads. They had been moved underneath the rocket they were attempting to destroy. Chains held them directly underneath its shade and, sure enough, Yang and Blake were once again nowhere to be found.
"I'm sure they're fine," the Librarian whispers. "Maybe they found someplace to hide. Or… they activated the protocol."
"The protocol? You mean Yoki, right?" Ruby asks.
"Yeah. It should have taken them someplace safe. Then returned the T.A.R.D.I.S to its last location."
Qrow's eye twitches. "You sent my niece away?"
"It was for their protection!" he answers, crossing his legs. "If I couldn't save everyone, I will do what I can to save at least somebody. And if we die here then I'll know at least they are safe."
Weiss growls and lunges at him, though she is stopped by the lack of length I'm her bonds. "That's ridiculous! That's-"
"Smart." Qrow sighs and shakes his head. "Very smart." He looks up at the Librarian and gives him a small nod of thanks.
"How'd they even find us?" Weiss asks after taking a long breath.
The Librarian groans. "Your scrolls. That's how they got Blake and Yang to begin with. I still have theirs and you all have yours. They've been tracing the alien technology."
"So that's it? We lost?" Ruby begins to struggle against her cuffs. "I can't accept that! We'll get out of here and save everyone. Then we can find Yang and Blake!"
"I'm afraid," the familiar voice of Mickey interrupts, "that you shall do no such thing." Lights began to flood the area, revealing not only his stature but dozens if not hundreds of other figures in the shadows. "It has been agreed that you shall be test subjects for our plans. With your sacrifice, we shall determine whether or not the perception filter, as you call it, will cause damage to those caught in it."
"But we don't have any memories of you!" Weiss smirks.
Ruby nods. "Yeah, so it won't do anything to us. We didn't grip up with Mickey Mouse and his kingdom of evil people!"
"But he did," Qrow realizes, casting a glance at the Librarian. "Didn't you?"
The two members of team RWBY freeze as he nods. "Yeah. You'll be safe. But… I probably won't be."
"No!" Ruby swings around to the army of Disney characters. "You can't do this! Don't you see it's just going to hurt those who care most about you? If you do this then you'll be erasing all the love and happiness that people have attached to you!"
One of the figures next to Mickey steps forward. This one was a talking duck in a blue sailor's uniform. "Why should we care?" he gargles. "We're the ones that have been put down and forced into a world that doesn't let us be ourselves. Why should we accept things as they have them?"
"Because that's how it is with everyone," the Librarian answers. "You are bound by the laws and views of those who were here before you. But you don't have to act out against them in violence! Change things for the better, from the inside, step by step."
"Do you think we could be accepted?" another asks, a buff man in Mistralian-like armor. "Or would we be ostracized?"
The Librarian pauses. "I… I cannot tell for certain. But by acting against everyone, especially those who love you, will only change their love to hate. Violence creates violence, it never solves it. The best way to inspire peace between peoples is through peace."
Mickey shakes his head. "We have seen many things since arriving on this world. And it has only proven that humans will not change unless drastic action is taken. But we do not want to change them. We just want to leave!"
A resounding cheer goes up within the masses. Their leader tosses the box of the Librarian's explosives to his feet. "I'm afraid your sabotage mission did not go as expected."
"Did it?"
Mickey's ear twitches and he waves his hand. A large man, though hunched, steps forward and fidgets with a screen in his hand.
"Quasimodo, is everything online?"
With his disfigured face, Quasimodo gives a smile and nods. "Yes, Farer. In fact, the results say the device will operate even better than we expected."
"Good. Then-"
"STOP!"
Everyone, Disney and Remnants alike, looks up as a voice interrupts the possible execution. Standing on top of one of the rocket's fins is Blake, with Yang behind her.
"Please do not do this!" Blake declares. "Think about those who look up to you, inspire to be you! Think of the events that you're presence here has influenced and will continue to influence!"
Yang, this time, "if you guys do this then all it's going to do is make you alone! You'll push away everyone except yourself! That's no way to live."
Mickey roars. "Capture them!"
"No," a new voice orders. A woman steps from the shadows behind the chained heroes, sword at her hip and helmet under her arm. Behind her follows another man, a blonde in armor who leads a group of men with rifles and a small party of women with painted faces.
The Librarian laughs and looks up at the duo above them. "You befriended Mulan and John Smith?"
Dropping down, the two girls give sly smiles. "It was easy after we explained everything," Yang explains. "Turns out, the mouse has been saying we are trying to attack them."
"Please tell me you sung about the dark side of the moon, too," their guide chuckles, earning an eye roll from Mulan but blank faces from his companions. "Eh, one of these days my references will make sense."
"My brothers and sisters!" Mulan booms. "We have been deceived by the Farer!" A gasp ripples through the crowd. "He speaks of freedom and home, yet he wishes to deny those very gifts from this world we have come to inhabit. Is this not our home as well? And while these bodies may not be our own, should we attack those who have done nothing against us?"
"They keep us trapped in these forms," Mickey counters. "As long as their memory of us lives, we cannot be who we truly are. Seize them!" He directs that order to another squadron of Stormtroopers, though they seem less inclined to listen than earlier.
John speaks up now. "We have lived here for decades. We have had funerals and births on this ground. Is this not our home now?"
"It's a prison!" the duck snaps.
The tall dog to his lift hyucks. "Gosh. But they haven't done anything to us on purpose. We could try talking to them."
"Thanks, Goofy," the Librarian smiles. "You always were my favorite."
Loud murmurs began to cascade up and down the ranks of characters. Not all of them wanted to hurt the people who had deified them these last few years. And not all of them wanted to go back to noncorporeal bodies.
But they didn't want to stay here.
"Freedom! Freedom! Freedom!"
The crowd began to chant as more and more of the people made their choice.
"Freedom! Freedom! Freedom!"
A few characters move from the crowd and join the Librarian and his company. Mufasa and Scar, to name a few. They place themselves even with the travelers, a sign of equality. A sign of togetherness.
"Freedom! Freedom! Freedom!"
Mickey Mouse clasps his hands together and silences his people. As his back turns, the Librarian grabs Yang's attention and points to her uncle.
"On his wrist, there's a silver band. Destroy it, quickly!"
Yang nods and rushes to her uncle's side. She grabs at his chains and snaps them with a flex of her strength with the enhancements of Aura. Then, with his arms free, she grabs his wrist (with the bracelet) and slams it onto the ground. The device takes the brunt of it, cracking slightly. With a second hit, it began to spark.
On the third, it broke. And all hell broke loose.
All the pent-up luck that Qrow usually gave off continuously flooded the area with its release. Lights sparked and bulbs burst. Bathroom plumbing burst and began to fill the area with water. Metal creaked and rivets popped. Even a few trash cans seemed to light themselves on fire.
Only the Librarian and Qrow knew how to react. With a pull on his bonds, the Librarian broke the chains holding him. Must have been a weak link, thanks Qrow. Ruby and Weiss' chains were broken quickly as well, aided by their teammates and their new Disney allies.
Mickey, as well as his people, began to panic. He screams orders and blaster fire began to resume.
"Get to the T.A.R.D.I.S!" the Librarian yells. He flexes his arms and two black semi-triangular shields burst from his wrists. "Gotta love Wakandan tech," he smirks as he blocks stray blue blasts. The gauntlets absorb the energy, turning it from blue to purple before being absorbed.
Ruby is the first to the T.A.R.D.I.S' doors. She holds them open and beckons the 'good' characters inside. Over a dozen do so, panicking as their attacker's press forward. Weiss and Blake help pick up those that fall while Qrow and Yang punch and slice at anyone who gets too close.
Soon, nobody was left except them. "Go! I've got this!"
Ruby glares at the Librarian. "You first! You're not going to send us off while you handle this yourself."
The Librarian grumbles and blocks another set of blasts. When the onslaught falters, he turns and runs inside. Soon the rest follow. Weiss and Blake, then Qrow and Yang. And lastly, Ruby.
The T.A.R.D.I.S was packed and it took a bit of difficulty for them to make their way to the console. The Librarian grabs one of the monitors and pulls up an exterior view.
"-had to do! This is on your heads! Not mine!" Mickey roars as he picks up the tablet from an unconscious Quasimodo. "With this, we shall leave!"
"No!" RWBY yells.
Mickey presses the pad and the floor shudders. The entire room begins to shake. On-screen, a pulse of white light emanates around them, flying out from their position and moving across the entire park. As it hits each character, they all fall unconscious. Mickey first, then his main leadership, with the rest of the crowd last.
Then it stops.
The shaking subsides and everything goes quiet.
"That's it?" Ruby asks. "We lost?"
The Librarian turns to Goofy, who had joined them in the panic. "I'm sorry."
"It's not your fault," he responds.
"It is. You just don't know it yet."
Everyone files out of the T.A.R.D.I.S at the Librarian's request. He assures them that the fighting was over and everything has been dealt with. Those who had stayed outside the ship were on the ground unconscious and were now being helped up by those who hadn't.
"This won't happen again?" Ruby asks. She, the Librarian, and Goofy formed a small triangle in front of the Mainstreet statue. "You're sure of it?"
The Librarian nods slowly. "Before I attempted to destroy the device, I fidgeted with it for a bit. Basically, I reversed the polarity of its outward feed."
"I don't understand," Goofy frowns.
"A perception filter basically tells the brain not to look at something. It creates a blind spot as well as wards it from being focused on. Like it's now in the corner of your eye. Noticed, in a way, but it is easier to pay attention to other things without getting a headache.
"Mickey was going to use that on everyone, the specific 'object' to be ignored being themselves and everything Disney. But since that would have caused unspeakable mental damage, I had no choice but to alter the target. Instead of humans forgetting Disney, I made it so that they would forget their home. That they are from another world. That they aren't characters from beloved movies and shows.
"I trapped them in their own bodies. Prisons of themselves."
Ruby gasps and stares at the dozens of unconscious characters. "So they won't remember that they're from another dimension? Or that they want to be themselves?"
The Librarian nods. "I'm sorry. They'll feel something is off, but won't be able to figure it out." He turns to Goofy and bows. "I couldn't think of anything else."
"You did your best," he responds, giving a kind smile. The large dog then grabs the Librarian's shoulders and pulls him into a hug. "You saved our people. It may have been easier to kill them, but you found a nonviolent solution. For that I thank you."
"What will you do?"
"We will do as you said. Slowly, carefully, we shall find a way through peace to find a way to gift our children with their own personas. I speak for my entire people when I say that we should carry the burden so our posterity may live in comfort."
Ruby smiles at the man. "That's so sweet of you. But will you be okay?"
"Yes. But for now, it is we who must apologize. If there is anything we can do to be forgiven for the actions that almost led to your harm, please let us know."
The Librarian clasps his hand. "I'll be sure to take you up on that. Someday."
With both doors open, Ruby, Weiss, Blake, and Yang wave down at the shrinking figures inside Disneyland. The T.A.R.D.I.S rose upwards, flying by the different regions, and ascending through the clouds.
"You think they're going to be okay?" Yang asks, whispering.
Blake nods. "They've seen the darkness in their hearts and dealt with it. I'm sure Goofy, Mulan, and everyone else can handle rebuilding their lives."
"It's quite possible that we may even get to see them again if we keep traveling," Weiss adds. "And if the Librarian is correct, we might even get to meet the actual characters and not who they looked like."
"It's so awesome," Ruby sighs as they begin to rise higher than the clouds. "I mean, it's dangerous and we could have gotten hurt-"
"Actually, I think the Librarian was the only one in danger," Blake corrects.
Ruby nods. "Yeah. But it's not going to always be like that. We'll get in trouble just like he did. But it's just so much more exciting than anything else! We help people who would get hurt otherwise. It's like fighting Grimm, but actually making a difference!"
At the console, Qrow fidgets with a new bracelet in his hand.
"Did you know?"
The Librarian raises an eyebrow. "What do you mean?" He spins around the console, making the T.A.R.D.I.S fly higher and higher until they reached a safe height to park.
"This thing. You said it would stop my semblance. But all it did was block it off. If I take it off, then all my bad luck is just going explode and hurt everyone around me."
"Yes," he sighs, leaning against a railing. "I did. Your semblance influences the world around you nonstop. If I were to try and plug that, it would take removing your semblance and Aura permanently." The Librarian runs a hand through his hair. "Which isn't impossible…"
"But it would mean I'd be a normal person," Qrow finishes. "I couldn't be a huntsman."
"Yes."
"Then maybe… I don't need it." He places the devices on the console and slides it over to the Librarian. "Besides… I can't be just bad luck. Look at all I've got now."
The two turn to see the young girls watching in awe as they fly into space. Stars and comments fly past as they move ever further from Earth. They were smiling. They were laughing. They were alive.
Maybe I've got some good luck after all, they both think.
YEEEEEEEAH BABY! WHO DID IT? WHO CAME BACK?! WHO'S THE GUY WHO WROTE HIS OWN DOCTOR WHO STORY?!
Me. This guy. Right here. *Dances in place.* I did it, I did it! With skill. And time! AND VIM AND VIGOR!
Honestly, when I started this story, I just wanted to do some fun Disney stuff. Originally it was going to be based around the Sing-Along-Song VHS I have. But as the story got more and more worked on, I couldn't help but feel myself grow as a writer and feel proud of what I created. Because while I don't think this is something spectacular, I do honestly think this is a pretty good (average) Doctor Who story. It has story, action, moral questions, and - of course - aliens!
It's probably not comparable to episodes like 'Dalek' or 'Turn Left', but, hey, it's mine, and I am freking proud.
But I am sorry about the wait. That was rude of me. I'm very thankful to you all for sticking around for so long. The next 4 or so chapters will only focus on watching Doctor Who, don't you worry!
Huge, huge thanks to my first ever supporter!
