Lizzie 1812
Pemberley was a somber, sad place. Many of the servants loved their young mistress, who talked to them as if they were people and prayed she wouldn't die. Many were crying, feeling hopeless. Lizzie was out for several days, so Darcy sat by her side, crying. Georgiana stayed by Lizzie, also crying, but sat away from her brother, blaming him.
The doctor came, and the news was bad. Richard also arrived since he was staying at his father's estate. His mother's father, a duke, had recently deeded him an estate and a large income. He didn't like his sons' wives or their children. His favorite was Richard's mother, so now, in his older age, he stayed with his daughter and husband. He wanted Richard to be well set and out of the military.
Richard was furious, blaming William. He wasn't in love with Lizzie, but he knew she would be a wife he would love. He said he would try for Lizzie.
To make matters worse, her father arrived. The mild manner, new Lord, was beyond angry. William already knew the story about the inheritance he had hidden for several years. Mr. Bennet blamed William, knowing he treated Lizzie poorly. Lizzie was the apple of his eye, the reason he claimed his rights. A few distant relatives fought for the inheritance without success. One was Collins' father. Thus, now, he was the rightful lord. He came to take his daughter away.
Jane and Mary were with him; both were cold and standoffish; Mariah came, wanting to be around Lizzie, and was also cold. Looking at them attired in fine garments, William realized he had judged his wife because of her clothing. A proud fool he had been, the Bennet sisters were ladies of quality, though his pride blinded him and cheated Charles from being happy with Jane.
Charles stayed away after he married Lizzie. Jane wouldn't see him because she no longer trusted him. Her father told her how his father threatened to take away his sizable income due from his mother's dowry if he married Fanny, the commoner. He chose Fanny and gave away his former life. All he got was the entailed property until now. Charles had chosen the Ton, making him not worthy. Jane's father thought Charles was a weakling, one who never came looking for her.
"Mr. Darcy, as soon as my daughter can travel, she is going with me." The newly minted Lord Bennet declared. He sat looking at his daughter when he noticed something odd. Her medallion was damaged. It looked older, maybe a bit melted. But during the next two days, it seemed less damaged. The same day, he found a duplicate inside Lizzie's jewelry box, confirming his fears. No matter, she was his daughter, wherever she came from. So he said nothing and left the medallion where he found it.
William also saw the medallion and put it away in the safe. He did not want anyone to see it and ask questions.
His daughter's skin was sun-kissed, a light gold; her nails were even, perfect, he would say. Jane noticed the same but had no answer. Her hair was different, streaked, with large curls, and much shorter. On her pierced ears, she had bobs with the largest pearls they had ever seen. The earrings had a large diamond on top.
Lord Bennet had read at least two tales he found in his mother's books, both with bad endings; in both, the couples had vanished, and he couldn't let that happen.
When he married, his mother sent him a box with several medallions hanging from gold and silver chains. They were replicas of the one she wore. Each one had one different stone. But he wasn't going to question what he saw. She said never to take them off. In the box from before, there were seven chains with medallions. He didn't want to lose his daughter and would take her, however. His mother wrote to him about one of his daughters, about his Lizzie, the special child. She must be the one who waited to do something, and maybe his mother would shed some light and would find a way to keep her. Or perhaps the lady from that night would help, he hoped.
They stayed by her bed. William Darcy would only leave for minutes. A few days passed, but everyone held on to hope until she woke up; her eyes fluttered and opened slowly.
When Elizabeth opened her eyes, she was lost; where was she; who was the man? Why had she seen an explosion? When Lizzie 2022 took over Lizzie's 1812's body, the brain memories stayed, but the 2022 Lizzie's memories mixed with the others whenever the bodies melded when her body had moved across time. In effect, the two Lizzies had become one. It was powerful magic, but as with all magic, unexpected things had happened.
Lizzie wondered who was the man crying was; she had seen him before, but where? Ah, yes, he was the man wearing the dark glasses snob with George. What was he doing there? Wait, his clothes were off, or were they? She was confused. Why was he holding her hand and kissing it? It looked as if he hadn't taken care of himself in days.
Jane was the first to see when Lizzie's eyes opened. "Lizzie, thank the Lord, are you back?"
Lizzie wondered why Jane sounded different, old-fashioned, or did she?
Her father kissed her other hand, "My dearest girl, we thought we lost you, my poor angel. It must be the light, your eye color looks off, and your hair, never mind. You are here and alive." Mr. Bennet understood this was Lizzie, a Lizzie, his child with changes. All was well because he didn't care.
The one she didn't know, or did she? William that was his name moved closer and caressed her face, "Sorry, dearest, the baby is no more. You lost it. Nothing could be done, so very sorry." Tears rolled down his cheeks. "All this is my fault; I am so very sorry."
A dog jumped on the bed and licked her, William tried to get the terrier down, but it snarled. The mutt they had found weeks earlier, often growled at him. "Biscuit, darling, my boy, are you are here? How?" Lizzie remembered George gifting her the puppy, probably four months old or so after it wandered into his home. The puppy had odd-colored eyes and hair. She got Biscuit a few days before she found George with Lydia. Biscuit, wagging his tail, laid his head on her leg, lifting his lip, daring William, making Jane grin.
Richard saw Jane smiling and did the same.
"The baby?" Lizzie finally said aloud. "What are you saying?"
Her father shook his head. William nodded, remembering her belly was perfectly flat when he found her; it was best not to upset her.
Georgiana stood by Lizzie, between William and Lizzie, and hugged her. "Thank God you are back. I wouldn't know what to do without you. Don't ever do that again; you are my sister. If you wish, we will go away together, don't leave me behind." Lizzie could feel tremors running through Georgie.
Lizzie was baffled. Who was this tall, willowy blond teenager? She was gorgeous. She remembered a name, "Georgie, darling, don't be upset. I won't leave you." Everyone looked puzzled; Lizzie's voice was foreign. It was hers but huskier, and the accent was odd. Her speech was educated and changed.
A spark of recognition ran thru William, remembering her husky laughter in his memories, the one he remembered when he'd pretended he was with her, the only times he could have pleasure. He had very few lovers and none since he first saw her in Barbados. Yes, he saw her at his home on the island. He could see her dressed in a white small cover, sitting on George's lap. What was going on with him? No, she was his, not George's. Was he losing his mind, for a moment he felt disconnected in time and place.
Lizzie's hand went to her medallion, and her dog put his paw over her hand and licked her. Her father saw the smaller gems sparkling in rapid succession. The next moment, others forgot about he voice, like she had made them think it was the same. But her father saw that William had seen the same, and they didn't forget. William shook his head slightly, not to say anything. William didn't care what happened, though he understood something had; he didn't care since his wife was with him.
One by one, they all came by her side, but Georgie stayed by Lizzie, taking off her slippers off and sitting on the large bed against the headboard. Her sisters and Mariah followed suit, sitting on the bed. William sat on the edge, holding her hand, next to his face. Nobody said much, happy she was awake.
Richard left the room and asked for a tea service for Lizzie, as well as beef tea. Jane couldn't take her eyes away from him. He looked so very handsome, much more than Charles. In a way, he looked like William, making her wonder why she had not noticed him before. Mary saw Jane's face and winked at her.
On his way to talk to Mrs. Reynolds, a footman was coming. "Sir, I have an express for Mr. Darcy. It is urgent."
Richard didn't want the family disturbed, so he took the express and opened it. His eyes darkened, it was from George. William didn't know what George had been up to. Too bad William had a weak spot for George, overlooking all his shortcomings, and there were many. After George's father died, George became an older brother. What to do? He would ask Mrs. Reynolds.
Unwelcome News
Lizzie was quiet, listening everyone talk. The snob, she remembered him, along with George. At least he was away from George. She couldn't understand what was going on because she remembered having sex with the snob, but she was angry with him. She nearly blushed, remembering his love words and his naked body against hers. Strangely, his hand felt reassuring, and she could feel his love, so she pressed her hand against his cheek, making him sigh happily, and moving her hand closer to his lips. Georgie's eyes followed all his moves. She'd meant it, she would leave with Lizzie, so William better behave.
"William, I must see you." The blond who looked like the snob came back in the room and called him. They wore unfamiliar clothing, or maybe not. Maybe they looked like part of |a telly play from Regency times, but this was not a play.
"Whatever it is, say it here. I don't want to walk away from my wife. Lizzie just awoke." The snob, William, said. Lizzie's heart did a flip, "Husband?" She asked aloud.
Her father answered quickly, "Darling, the fall you forget. He is your husband." He didn't want to lose his daughter, remembering the stories, that was how it happened. No he would make her want to accept this life and stay.
Lizzie knew that he must be right. Lizzie felt as if she were two people, how odd. Maybe she liked being married to the snob, or did she? She saw the snob cringing, squeezing his hand, worried, but relaxed when she didn't pull away. Her father moved a chair closer, looking worried.
"William, just for a few minutes." Richard insisted.
"No, if you cannot say it now, then later. I am not leaving Lizzie's sight." Darcy answered curtly.
Richard, annoyed, answered, "So be it, George is injured, someone shot him on his way here. He is asking you allow him to come home; he wants his place." Richard shook his head, letting his cousin know it was a bad idea.
Lizzie lost all color, "George is coming? No…" her world faded. Was George also here? She wanted her life back, but not George.
2022
An hour after Lady Catherine arrived, a helicopter landed on the helipad nearby. Lady Catherine's car waited to pick up Richard Fitzwilliam and Georgiana Darcy. Both wore dark jeans and black jackets.
They left their luggage in a private home ready for them and went to meet with their aunt. They saw George's car parked at the entrance of the old manor and ignored him. Georgie knew to stay away from him, and Richard didn't like how George used women. He had briefly met Dr. Elizabeth Bennet, and could not understand why George couldn't stop running around when he had a woman like her. He knew his aunt had a soft spot for George, and he knew why.
T hey met with their aunt and the Bennet family. Lydia felt ill looking at two newly arrival because they were in the pictures from long ago. But neither Thomas Bennet, nor his older daughters seemed surprised. Fanny Bennet excused herself along with Lydia. Neither wanted to participate in what they called madness. Fanny dried tears, thinking she had lost all her family since Kitty had joined them.
"My nephew and my niece. She is William's sister; I lived with William, Georgiana, and ahem, never mind, since my sister died. We will need them. They know what is happening."
They talked for a while. Richard opened his notebook and connected a small projector to display pictures of an area in Pemberley. Outsiders never found the area shunned by everyone. The pictures were ground pictures; he explained that from the air, the area looked like a meadow, not what they saw. Richard had seen the pictures of his namesake, a General Fitzwilliams, with a double of Jane Bennet, a chill ran down his back; no doubt she was a beauty. Maybe it was time to settle down, perhaps it was.
While they were looking at the pictures, the notebook made a big noise and lost all the data. The drive was erased. When he went to a private cloud server, everything was gone. Lady Catherine smiled, "Not a problem, what I have cannot be taken away. I suggest we go to a basement if you have one, one without windows. I imagine something, or someone knows what we are doing, and is trying to stop us. It makes me more than hopeful."
1812 – The other present
William Darcy and Mr. Bennet panicked. Lizzie fainted. Mr. Bennet poured a cup of tea. William held her head, "Darling, drink a little. Where is the food? She needs to eat."
In a couple minutes, Lizzie's eyes fluttered. "Dearest, are you well?" Lizzie saw several pair of eyes fixed on her. Biscuit was licking her face, whining softly.
Lizzie, once again, wondered where was she at? This place looked like a palace, expensive flower vases, heavy velvet curtains, and why did her sisters and father looked…never mind. Slowly, things were more familiar. The snob, no, William looked scared. She remembered, George was coming.
"Dearest, if you don't want George here, I will send him to the Vicar's cottage." William was upset. Mr. Bennet nodded, he didn't want the scoundrel around, who had been coming around to see Lydia. Besides, he had poisoned Lizzie's mind.
"I don't want him around, you know why." Lizzie answered, barely audible.
William's eyebrow went up. The words came out his mouth; the memory of Lizzie nearly naked swimming with George in the Roman bath and, no, no, kissing him, making him angry. "Do you still care?" His words surprised everyone, but not Mr. Bennet or Jane, who knew George of 1812, had tried to court Lizzie.
"No, of course not, not after Lydia." She regretted saying it, seeing her sisters and her father's reaction, and realizing this family didn't know about her memories. "No, don't pay attention, I am confused. But I prefer not to see him." She was understanding that she felt like two people, and she would need to watch what she said.
