The next chapter is out and as you can guess I will include all the boss fights from the games (except in the Run and Gun levels).
I don't know if I'm planning a sequel yet, but if I do, the DLC will play a major role. If you want it of course.
King Dice will play a big role in the next chapter that's for sure. And as in the last chapter I say it here again. There should be nothing romantic between King Dice and the protogarnist.
When they meant debtors, Alicia would have thought of a house or something similar but not a garden in the middle of the meadow. Well, at least the garden is well maintained. She saw no weeds or anything else. Whoever owns the garden must take very good care of it. But nowhere in the distance did she see a house belonging to the garden. So who did it belong to and even more why are they here at all? "And you're sure that one of the debtors is here?" Her gaze drifted down to Cuphead and Mugman.
Both looked at Alicia until Mugman nudged his brother with his elbow. He pulled out a list from his back pocket. It was the same one the devil gave them before they were kicked out. "Yes, this is where The Root Pack lives. Root Pack strange name. Alicia didn't know what to make of it. She looked over at the garden and saw nothing. No one was there. Besides the planted vegetables, there was a bag of potting soil with ACME written on it. Alicia recognized ACME immediately and thought of the Road Runner. Wile E. Coyote had always tried to catch that bird with ACME products. Was it even a bird? To her, it always looked like an ostrich.
"We shouldn't wait any longer" Cuphead climbed over the fence enclosing the garden. Mugman followed him but turned to Alicia, "Is something wrong Alice?" Alicia looked at him. "How exactly does this go on now. Do you want me to come with you or what?" Mugman jumped to the other side and thought. Cuphead noticed that the two were talking and joined them. "We will fight for the soul contract," Mugman explained. Alicia didn't know what to think. "And talking won't work?" both brothers shook their heads. Of course we can't. "It's the best if you stay out here while we fight and try not to draw attention to yourself" Cuphead made a hand gesture above his head.
She knew what he meant and looked around. A loose fence on the other side of the garden served as a backrest. She went to him and leaned with her back against the fence. From her shoulder bag she took out her writing pad and pen. As Cuphead said, she pulled the hood over her head and looked over to the garden where Cuphead stomped on the ground several times. "Hey Root Pack we're here for your soul contract!" yelled Cuphead as he continued to stomp the ground. At first nothing happened until the ground started to shake.
Both brothers began to wiggle themselves and ran to the left side as an anthropomorphic potato appeared from the ground on the right with slender short arms and an annoyed expression on its face. Both brothers got ready for the fight that is about to begin. Cuphead looked at the potato grimly and pulled up his shorts. Mugman took his straw and pulled it to his mouth and drank from it before letting it go. For Alicia it was nothing special anymore after she saw both of them drinking their cocoa or whatever was in their cups when they were still in the cottage it didn't bother her anymore.
But what scared her now were the bullets that came out of the fingertips of the two brothers. They were blue shots, but she could not see much more. The potato seemed to be not very pleased and spat several times in a row a dirt ball on the two brothers. Both jumped over and parried the worm that came out last. Cuphead was the first to get him. Otherwise the fight didn't seem to change except for the distance of the dirt balls from each other and the speed.
As Mugman parried the last worm, the potato rubbed its cheeks in pain and sank into the ground from where it came. But the fight was not over yet. Mugman ran to the right side while Cuphead stayed on the left. Alicia didn't notice it right away, but her right arm suddenly moved on its own. She looked down and saw her right hand writing on the writing pad. It was the battle against the Root Pack that the two brothers were fighting. The attempt to move the arm was useless. It was controlled as if by magic.
Alicia started to panic. But when she heard crying and looked to the garden, she saw an anthropomorphic Onion who started crying in streams when Cuphead and Mugman shot at him. Really, a crying onion now? She didn't really like onions. It wasn't the taste or the look. No it was because of that enzyme when you cut the onion. She hated it and always refused to cut onion. But now she had to giggle when she saw the crying onion. Was that supposed to be ironic? Whatever it was, she didn't panic anymore and could continue to watch the fight.
Cuphead and Mugman dodged most of the tear drops except for a few pink ones they parried. It didn't take long for the Onion to be defeated and also sink into the ground. Both brothers walked to the center of the garden and waved to Alicia. She used her other hand and waved back until an anthropomorphic carrot appeared behind the two brothers. Both startled briefly and prepared to fight as the carrot began using telekinetic powers to use the carrots from the field behind them as projectiles.
The carrots pursued the two brothers like homing missiles. But the two changed weapons and now shot with green stars that went aimed at the carrots. The carrot noticed this and immediately stopped directing more carrots at the two brothers. Instead, a third eye appeared above his normal eyes, from which four yellow rings appeared that were alternately fixed on Cuphead and Mugman. Both dodged the rings and continued to fire the stars at the carrot until it was also defeated.
The carrot pulled at its leaves as it slowly sank into the ground. Alicia regained control of her hand, closed the writing pad and put it back in her shoulder bag. Both brothers jumped over the fence. Cuphead held a scroll in his left hand as he ran toward Alicia. "One down, only four to go and then it's off to the next island" he said proudly as he put the scroll in his other pocket. "Okay where to now?" asked Alicia as she took down her hood. Mugman took the list from his brother's pocket and looked. "Goopy is closer so we could do him next and then Ribby and Croaks afterwards". Cuphead nodded at him in agreement.
"Off to the next debtor, then!" said Alicia as she went ahead. Wait, where does Goopy live again? She stopped and didn't notice at first how both brothers ran into her. "Um do you know where Goopy lives?" Her flushed face was hard to miss. Cuphead and Mugman grinned and walked ahead. "Just follow us." She didn't need to be told twice and followed them. But soon her joyful face disappeared when she saw the forest. She again had the feeling that someone was watching her. Just before they entered the forest, Alicia stopped. Both brothers noticed her absence and turned to her.
She took a breath and pulled the hood over her head and walked into the forest. "Is everything all right?" asked Mugman, but Alicia didn't give him a concrete answer, just nodded. The group walked further into the forest until they arrived at a small clearing. "This is where he must be," Cuphead said. Alicia looked around and leaned against one of the trees and took out the writing pad. She heard something and looked around in confusion until suddenly a blue something appeared in front of the two brothers.
What is that? She didn't know how to react. Fortunately, the hood covered her face, otherwise everyone could see her shocked face. Whatever that thing is, it greeted both brothers with the top of its head, which it used as a hat. However, both brothers were not thrilled with this and fired at the thing. This time, both fired different bullets. Cuphead fired boomerang-like bullets while small purple balls came out of Mugman's fingers.
Goopy jumped all over the battlefield during the fight. Both brothers dodged him when he threatened to land on them. However, he didn't seem to mind as he leaned back with his body and jumped out. His face was in the shape of a boxing glove. Cuphead would have been almost caught if he hadn't ducked. Mugman was right behind him and kept firing at realized that he was in trouble and swallowed a pill. Three pink question marks appeared above his head, which Mugman parried. A second later and Goopy was now taller, more muscular and had brown thick eyebrows. Did he... he took steroids.
Despite the steroids, the fight didn't really change. He still jumped above the battlefield and tries to hit both brothers with a boxing glove. But that didn't help him because, just like in real life, the side effects of the steroids kicked in quickly and he started staggering back and forth until suddenly a tombstone landed on him. What the... Alicia just shook her head and continued to watch the fight, if only there wasn't one thing. She looked behind the tree she was leaning against and immediately turned around. Please tell me I'm mistaken. She didn't really see the dice head of King Dice.
"I'm sure that was just a figment of my imagination". He would never be near the two brothers. Or would he? "Alice!". She flinched when she heard Cuphead's voice. "We got him!". "You have who?" asked Alicia, confused until she saw the soul contract in Mugman's hand. "Um forget what I just said" both brothers looked at each other in confusion before shrugging their shoulders.
"Off to Ribby and Croaks!" Cuphead went ahead followed by Mugman. Alicia packed her writing pad into her shoulder bag. As she followed them, she didn't notice that someone was suddenly standing in front of her. Only when she ran into the person did she notice him. "Sorry I..." she looked up and cringed when she saw the familiar looking purple tailcoat. Her gaze slowly traveled upward until she saw the smirk on the manager's face. "Did ya miss me Darling?" with his left hand he held her chin and pulled her closer to him. She knew what he was up to and freed herself from his grip and walked past him. The manager was very impressed by this and was not easily dissuaded and continued to follow her through the forest.
She was not very happy about it and wanted to get out of the forest as soon as possible. "He's not serious now, is he?" She held the cloak tighter around her and looked around. Where the hell are you two? She had completely lost her Orientation and because of the Psycho Dice she now lost sight of both brothers. "Oh great". "From the looks of it, you could use some help" She didn't have to turn around. The manager's voice was right behind her. "Says who?" An arm settled over her shoulder as she was unintentionally pushed forward.
"Hey I can walk you don't have to push me!" King Dice stopped pushing but kept his arm around her shoulder and pushed her closer him. Her head was already next to his chest. She felt his heartbeat. He pounced just as strong as last time. Please don't tell me he's.. "Sorry darling but if I see such a beauty like you I can't stop my heart" Oh great a charmer. She could really use that now. "But to get to the point do you already know where you will stay this night?" Alicia's eyes widened when she heard that. She didn't know where to sleep. Sure Elder Kettle has a guest room.
"Your silence tells me you don't know where to sleep tonight" She didn't want to give it to but he was unfortunately right. If only I had asked Elder Kettle! She blamed herself. "Yes you're right I don't know where to stay" God she hated agreeing with people like him. He could save himself his grin. "Now what do you think of it when I tell you that a Hotel Room in the casino has just become vacant?"
Oh yeah sure we'll go right into the Lion's Den and get eaten. She didn't want to go back to the casino and she didn't want to meet the devil again. His roar when she escaped was more than enough to say that he will capture her. And as if it wasn't enough, the manager is also just around the corner. She didn't really know if she should agree or not. "I'll think about it but thanks for the offer Dice". He took his arm down from her shoulder as the two came out of the woods. A river was nearby. In the distance she could see a ship, but no sign of the two brothers. "If you change your mind, you'll find me in the Die House"
With a skillful twist of his body, King Dice disappeared into a black hole. Just in time Alicia heard two familiar voices from the forest. "There she is!" Both brothers ran toward them. Both were panting and gasping for air when they reached her. "We've been looking everywhere for you". "Yes...we...even...went...back...to...Elder Kettle" Mugman gasped before exhaling. Now she felt bad. If it hadn't been for the encounter with King Dice, she wouldn't have been separated from them. "But it looks like you've already found our next debtor" Cuphead pointed to the ship anchored at the river.
As the three approached the boat, Alicia noticed that there was a large paddle wheel at the stern of the boat. Above the entrance of the boat was the name of the ship or rather the club. "The Flytrap". The name was certainly meant ironically. She hoped so because there were many anthropomorphic flies in front of them in the queue. Cartoon logic. She just shook her head. The hood was still over her head. She wasn't worried about that. But when the three of them stood in front of the entrance of the club she had a bad feeling in her stomach or was she just hungry?
Her stomach growled as the door to the club opened and she smelled a variety of foods. Cuphead and Mugman were also getting hungry. "If we have the soul contract, we could have a quick bite to eat." A clock next to the entrance indicated that it would soon be lunchtime. The two flies in front of them entered the boat. Cuphead and Mugman walked up to the bouncer a fly with a black bow while Alicia followed them and looked around. "Name please." Both brothers nodded. "Cuphead, Mugman and Alicia." Cuphead points to himself, his brother, and Alicia behind him. The bouncer scrolled through the list until he found the names.
"Ah there we have them" with a wave of his hand he let the three of them in. But Alicia suddenly felt a hand on her shoulder. "No cloaks please" Damn it. Alicia did not know what to do. She did not want to show her appearance. "It's all right" Alicia, Cuphead, Mugman and the bouncer looked toward the entrance. A duo of anthropomorphic wood frogs stood in the front door. "Ah Ribby and Croaks I'm sorry" both frogs just shook their heads and waved the bouncer away. Alicia breathed a sigh of relief and looked at the two frogs. Both were wearing typical martial arts clothes. On their hands they both wore boxing gloves. The smaller frog wore red gloves and the big one wore brown ones. "So you must be the two collecting those soul contracts" said the big frog as he pointed to Cuphead and Mugman.
Both brothers nodded when they saw the size of the boxing glove. "Yes, we want yours now," Cuphead prompted. But the two frogs looked at each other before looking at Alicia. Yeah sure look at me first. "And what about her?" asked the smaller frog. "She belongs to us and will not fight with us" Cuphead and Mugman stood protectively in front of Alicia. "Okay you two we won't hurt your date" Excuse me? "You'll get our soul contract when you..." Here it comes "...defeat us in combat!"
Both brothers accepted the offer and shook hands with the two frogs. Alicia searched for a suitable seat until she found a table near the fighting ring. The club itself was not very big compared to the casino. Next to the tables there was a small bar, a stage and several tables with food and drinks. On the table there was a menu card. She looked at the menu and was overwhelmed by the choice. It was difficult to decide on a dish. Besides, she had no money to pay for anything.
Maybe Cuphead and Mugman still have enough money to pay for lunch. Her stomachs continued to growl, but work comes first. Cuphead and Mugman stood in the fighting ring with the two frogs. The spectators cheered and roared. "Let's go Ribby and Croaks!", "Finish them both!". She should have known that the crowd would cheer for the two frogs rather than the two brothers. She was not worried. After all, she had only one task and that was to write down the event. So she took out the writing pad from her shoulder bag and began to write down the battle.
The fight started and Ribby waved his arms quickly in a circle. From them he fires several blue and pink boxing gloves at the two brothers. Cuphead and Mugman dodged them and parried the pink gloves. Ribby stopped with his attack and was out of breath. Croaks noticed and spat out several burning fireflies. Mugman saw it and changed his weapon and now fired at the fireflies with the green stars while Cuphead continued to shoot at the two frogs. Both frogs realized they couldn't go on like this and Ribby rolled towards both brothers. "Jump!" yelled Cuphead as he and his brother jumped over the rolling frog.
Now both brothers were surrounded by the frogs. Croaks turned into a fan. What the. Alicia had to stifle her giggles. The wind blew both brothers in the direction of Ribby, who was kicking ringed balls out of his boxing gloves. Both brothers dodged the attacks. Croaks stopped short before turning back into a fan. This time, both were blown toward him. Ribby did the same attack again until he and Croaks were standing on all four. Um, what the. Please tell me that didn't just happen. Ribby rolled into Croak's open mouth and they both turned into a slot machine.
Cuphead and Mugman didn't know how to react either and looked at the machine before coins came out of it. Both dodged coins until the lever went down with a boxing glove. Cuphead parried it and like a slot machine, three symbols appeared on the screen. There were three tigers. From the lower part of the machine came Orange chips with bouncing balls. Both brothers tried to dodge the chips and balls and kept firing until the lever was back up. In the next two rounds, two more chips came out of the machine. Snake heads appeared on the monitor and green chips came out of the lower part of the machine.
Cuphead and Mugman used the chips as a platform and jumped on them. However, the chips were getting faster and faster. Mugman almost threatened to trip if his brother hadn't taken him by the hand. The lever went down again and Cuphead parried it. This time on the monitor appeared bulls and red chips with blue flames that were either up or down floating in the middle. Both brothers jumped either on top of the chips or under them to avoid the blue jet flame. Another hit from Mugman was enough and the slot machine malfunctions and violently rumbles. Skull icons appeared on the Monitor and his eyes are crossed out.
Both had made it and defeated the frogs. The guests clapped and cheered. Alicia also clapped. Cuphead and Mugman bowed and waved back until both suddenly felt someone standing behind them. Both turned around and saw Ribby and Croaks. Both had at least one black eye and their clothes were slightly torn. "a Deal is a deal" Croaks reached into his pocket and pulled out the soul contract. "Here's our soul contract" Cuphead grabbed it and they both looked out for Alicia. "There she sits Cuphead!" Mugman pointed to Alicia who waved at the two.
They both went to her and sat down to her right and left respectively. "And how did you like the fight?" asked Cuphead. She was about to answer when her stomach started to growl. "We can discuss that after dinner". Both brothers nodded to her. The fight had made them both very hungry and the sight of food at the rest of the tables didn't make it any better. A waiter fly flew up to the table of the three and took their order. "What do you want to eat Alice?" Alice again. She really had to tell them that she wanted to be called by her real name.
"I'll have a Bologna Casserole please" the waiter nodded and took the order from the two brothers before flying off. Wait who is paying for the food? "Um guys" Cuphead and Mugman looked to her. She didn't know how to say this now. "Who's paying for the food. I'm afraid I don't have any money in my pocket and even if I did my currency wouldn't do any good here". Cuphead reached into his pocket and was about to place the contents on the table when Ribby stood in front of them. All three looked at him. "Don't worry, you don't have to pay anything". Alicia was confused. Why don't we have to pay anything? Are we special guests or what? "Alice is the name if I didn't hear wrong right?" She shivered. There was someone standing behind her. A glance behind her and she saw Croaks. "Doesn't that name sound familiar, bro?"
Of course, that Name is known. There was a children's book called Alice in Wonderland. "My real name is Alicia" both frogs looked at the wrapped woman. Ribby walked closer to her and tried to look into her face. "Oh holy tadpole that's her" Huh? "Brother that's our little girl remember?" Croaks looked at her too and his mouth was wide open in shock. "There's no such thing. Is that Dolly's daughter?". Okay now the two frogs are scaring me. "How do you know my mother's name?". She didn't know if she should take the hood down or not. But since both frogs had nothing against it, she did it. The other guests didn't seem to mind how she looked. That calmed her down. "I should have known that Alice would come here someday." And there she was annoyed again. Croaks noticed and slapped his brother lightly. "Oh, I'm sorry, I meant Alicia, of course."
"But to answer your question properly my lady" Croaks cleared his throat. "Your mother was also here and knows all the inhabitants of the island." True, Elder Kettle had said that her mother and grandmother were also in here. The waiter flew over to their table with a tray full of food. Alicia got her Casserole while Cuphead and Mugman ate Bacon Roll-Ups. "And we really don't have to pay for any of this?" she asked cautiously. "It's on the house," Ribby answered.
She nodded and smiled as she ate her noodles. In general, the mood in the club had become very good. On the stage a band of insects played jazz music. Many guests danced, laughed or talked with each other. She would have liked to stay here, but unfortunately Alicia had to follow the two brothers. "All right, we only have two more to go and then we'll go to the next island". "Who's closest?" asked Alicia. She had her hood back over her head. Cuphead looked at the list while his brother looked over his shoulder. "We still have to get to Canteen Hughes Cuphead before we challenge the next debtor". Cuphead looked at the list and nodded. But Alicia was confused "Why?"
But she didn't get an exact answer instead she was taken by the hand by Mugman and dragged behind him until the three of them stood in front of an anthropomorphic canteen. She was very surprised by the action of the two that she did not notice that her hood was not over her head anymore. But fortunately the canteen had not seen her so she could put the hood back on without any problems. While Cuphead was talking to the canteen, Alicia asked Mugman something. "Say, how old are you two anyway?" Mugman didn't think twice and answered her question "Cuphead is thirteen and I'm twelve. How old are you?". "Twenty-four "
Mugman nodded until he asked himself why she asked him the question in the first place. "Um why did you ask me that?". Alicia pointed to the two small planes next to the canteen. Mugman now understood why she asked him that. Cuphead walked up to the two and announced the news to them. "Gosh we should read the blueprints first or he won't give us the planes". Mugman gave him a shrug. "Then I guess we'll have to go through it again" they both walked to a pedestal to the right of the canteen on which the blueprint lay.
Normally, she would have thought that they were both looking at the blueprints. But that both brothers jumped into it scared her very much. She ran to the blueprint and opened it. Cuphead and Mugman were now sitting in planes. She looked next to the canteen and both planes were gone. "Look out!" Alicia looked down and dropped the blueprint. Both brothers flew out of it and landed next to her. "Did you scare me don't do that again!" Both brothers grinned. Only now did Alicia notice that they were both wearing aviator glasses. "Sorry Alicia, we didn't really mean to scare you," said Mugman.
Cuphead got out of his plane and gave Alicia a pair of aviator glasses. "Here's what you'll need". Alicia looked at him confused until she knew why he gave her the glasses. "Wait you want me to fly with you?" Cuphead nodded and jumped into the plane. He pressed a button and the plane changed size. "You coming?" Cuphead turned to her and saw her fear-struck face. Alicia did not move a bit but just stood still. "Um Cuphead maybe she shouldn't fly with us" but Cuphead refused to leave her here. King Dice and the Devil could easily kidnap Alicia while they were in the air.
"Don't worry Alicia I will fly carefully" She looked to him. He he-... You've got to be kidding me. He looked at her with googly eyes and knelt in front of her. She couldn't say no. Not with those eyes. "Okay Cuphead you win..." the Cup was pleased, took her by the hand and led her to the plane. She boarded the plane and was surprised. Despite how it looked from the outside, she could still stretch her legs out completely and didn't have to bend them. Cuphead sat down in front of her and pulled the control pad closer. She used the seat behind her as a backrest. Cuphead, in turn, used her stomach as a backrest. "And you're really sure Alicia?" asked Mugman as she put on her glasses.
Alicia looked to him and nodded. "It would be better if I go with you and I think Cuphead keeps his word". Cuphead looked up at her and grinned. She hoped he wasn't doing any stunts. Because crashing wouldn't be so nice. Both brothers started the engine and headed for a abyss. Both planes became faster and faster and gained altitude before they could reach the abyss. "Alicia you can open your eyes!" screamed Cuphead. She did and was surprised by the view. The islands were huge. She looked down and could see the garden of the Root Pack and the Fly Trap. They were tiny from up here.
"So where are we going now?" she asked Cuphead. But the cup no longer had to answer the question. The three were flying toward an observatory. Or what floated above it. She couldn't make it out at first but as they approached she saw it.
Sitting on a cloud was a person. A moderately tall, slender humanoid-zeppelin figure with pinkish, fair-colored skin and very short, maroon-colored hair in a finger-wave haircut a prominent hair-line in the center. In her face it has a long pointed nose, thin, black eyebrows and salmon eyelids. It wears a cherry-red shirt with a darker-red lower half and crimson, puffy sleeves, salmon skirt and matching ballet flats. It also wears simple white opera-gloves and glowing gold bracelets. The person noticed the trio and grinned nastily at them before sucking in the cloud they were just sitting on.
Oh that's not good. Alicia did not feel comfortable with it. "Alicia get your writing pad out and get ready!" shouted Cuphead. She did so and looked over at Mugman who adjusted his glasses and stood next to his brother. Both held their right thumbs over a button on the control pad. "Mugman, Alicia get ready for our next debtor..." Alicia was now even more afraid. She could no longer use her arms to hold on as her writing pad took control of her arm again. Mugman grinned confidently. He was ready for battle just like his brother.
"...Hilda Berg!"
