November 1st, 1985

The fluorescent lights burned her eyes as she sat in the waiting room, resting her head on the wall behind her. She tried not to fall asleep, she blinked furiously, widening her eyes like that would force her not to doze off. She took her hands to her head and shook her hair out, whipping her head back and forth. Sighing, she fixed herself up, sitting as correctly as she could in her seat. Lorraine picked at the peeling faux leather that covered the seat cushion under her leg.

She looked into Eddie's eyes, those chocolate brown hughes melting her inside. She heard him speak, saying the words she had been hoping he'd say. A soft chuckle grew on her lips, slowly turning into a full smile accompanied by a laugh. He joined her, laughing, taking one of his hands and wiping his eye quickly. She squeezed his hands, pulling them to her lips as she began to kiss his palm. Taking her other hand she gripped his neck from behind, pulling him into a deep kiss, giggles escaping their lips as they swayed side to side.

Eddie finally rounded the corner, a doctor handing him a slip of paper. He nodded, giving a small smile as he turned to look at Lorraine. She hadn't noticed, but Eddie always gave her the same look every time he saw her. His eyes would naturally relax, a smile growing slowly, to a point the lines around them looked like they were carved into his skin. Lorraine smiled, matching the intensity that she was feeling inside herself, and stood up.

"So?" She asked, peaking over to read the slip of paper.

"Nothing, a bruised rib. Some Advil and rest." He chuckled, crunching the paper in his hand and sticking it in his back pocket. He wrapped his arm across Lorraine's shoulder, pulling her into him as he guided them down the hallway. He lent over, giving her a quick kiss on the head and whispered.

"Let me get you dinner." He grinned, looking for Lorraine's gaze.

She looked up to him, raising her hand to reach Eddie's that he placed on her shoulder. Slowly peeling his fingers from her, she intertwined her fingers with his, rubbing his rings against her skin. She gave a quick squeeze and a grin.

"Sounds perfect."

"Why didn't you tell me sooner?" She laughed, taking her hands from his neck and brushing hair away from his face.

"I could say the same thing, Lorry." He laughed, tilting his head as he let his hand fall to her waist. He squeezed her closer, she could feel his heart almost jumping out of his chest.

"Well…" She trailed on, smiling, leaning in to kiss him once more. It was like as soon as the words left her mouth, she could feel the walls crumbling down around her. Her legs could stretch and run, she could feel the breeze on her skin, she could take a deep breath. She felt like a missing piece had locked into place.

Eddie rushed to the side of the van where Lorraine was sitting, opening the door for her. He stretched out his hand, which she took happily, letting him be a gentleman, at least this time. Eddie laughed, like he was nervous. His chuckles were like a little boy who was trying to get the courage to talk to the girl he liked. He gestured for her to walk up the steps before her, she shook her head at him in disbelief with a grin. Lorraine swung the door open, gingerly leaving it open for Eddie to follow her in.

"It's a mess I know," Eddie said, frantically getting in front of Lorraine trying to collect anything he thought might be embarrassing.

"It's not like I haven't seen you live in this place before." She laughed loudly, holding her elbow. Why am I so nervous?

Once he finished trying to hide dirty clothes and empty bottles from plain sight, he began to rummage through the cupboards, looking for something to prepare for the two.

"Get comfortable, if you want to shower, or whatever." He said, his back to her. She nodded, unable to wipe the smile from her face.

She spun on her foot, heading straight to the bathroom just to the left of her. It was strange, she felt like although she had done this before, been in his house, taken a shower… it was different. Something in the air that night. Something in the way he smiled. His smile, she thought, her heart racing again. Why didn't I say anything before?

As she got undressed she could hear Eddie singing along to his cassette player, making her giggle. She turned the knob on the shower, waiting for the water to get decently hot, stepping in slowly and letting the water wash off as much of the dried blood, paint and the person she was before fall straight to the drain and drown with any other thought she had before that night.

After showering, she grabbed a spare towel laying around the bathroom, wrapping herself with it. She took the dress and cape she had been wearing in her hands and headed out of the bathroom, straight to Eddie's room. She had done so so naturally that she didn't think twice about leaving her things on the dresser, looking through his clothes trying to find something to wear. Without hesitating, she took an Iron Maiden t-shirt and some black sweatpants, littered with holes. She laughed, she'd always told him he needed to buy a new pair of pajamas.

Fresh clothes, a shower and the scent of food coming from the other room, Lorraine felt she was finally at home. A peace washed over her like a gentle wave just tickling her toes. She rung out her wet hair, trying to dry it as much as possible, taking a moment to look around the room. It hasn't changed too much, posters on the wall, an ashtray beside the bed. It was just as messy as she remembered it. She took a deep breath, the whisk of cigarette smoke and a familiar scent of cologne that lingered on the shirt she was wearing filled her lungs. Slowly releasing, she finally turned around to find Eddie at the door.

He smiled, a hand on the doorframe, holding him up. It looked like he would fall over at any minute. His face was dripping wet, having just washed the dark makeup from that night. Blinking slowly, she had to remind herself that she had to move at some point. She returned the smile one more time, before clasping her hands together.

"What's for dinner?" She gleamed, feeling the rumble of her stomach growl for something solid.

"Your favorite." He winked, quickly disappearing once again.

Lorraine followed him through the doorway, entering the room once more, but something was different. Eddie stood proudly in front of the table, a giant grin on his face. She lifted an eyebrow, slowly approaching him. He quickly took a step aside revealing the small table right beside the front door. There was nothing special, although there was a small candle right between the two plates of food. She giggled, shaking her head.

"You're silly, Eddie." She laughed, as he reached for her chair and pulled it out slightly, gesturing for her to sit. She of course accepted the invitation and sat down, pulling the chair closer to the table.

"Beefaroni." He laughed, a crack in his voice barely audible.

"You were right," she mumbled, shoving a spoonful of food in her mouth. "It is my favorite."

The plates and pans were stacked in the kitchen sink, the low buzz of the radio playing in the background. The deep voice of a radio presenter coming and going between songs, neither of them listening to the words. The whip of the wind knocking against the window panes, the four walls protecting the small cocoon the two had created.

Lorraine lay still in between Eddie's legs. His arms wrapped around her, leaning his head on hers softly. She played with the rings on his hands, taking slow deep breaths as they just sat together, listening to the music playing. Eddie hummed the melody, the vibrations of his throat and chest like a jackhammer against Lorraine's head. She smiled, laughing, turning her head up towards him for a moment.

"Edward Munson singing along to Cheap Tricks." She laughed.

"So? It's.. good, okay." He rolled his eyes, almost blushing.

"Mommy's alright, Daddy's alright!" She began to sing along, loudly, rolling herself in place and kneeling between his legs.

"They just seem a little weird! Surrender, Surrender!" They sang in unison, Lorraine raising her hands like she was in a concert, bobbing her head. Eddie clenched his fists and punched the air with the tempo.

Lorraine jumped off the couch, jumping up and down. Her arms were in the position of a guitar, although she had no idea what she was doing, honestly. She repeated the chorus along with the song, Eddie standing on the couch and shaking his head as he repeated the back up vocals. The song faded slowly, Eddie jumping down to Lorraine, wrapping his arms around her and almost flinging her towards one side of the room. They laughed, deeply, panting from their impromptu rock concert. They stood there, holding one another in their arms, not knowing what to do next.

"And next we're… For those… Out there… Dream On…" The deep voice of the radio returned, barely distinguishable, announcing the next song.

"I like this song…" Lorraine trailed on, not breaking the stare from Eddie's. His eyes were almost glowing with emotion, smiling at her. He took his hand to her neck, the other brushing away hair that had fallen into her eyes.

"I know you do." He whispered, against the strings of the guitar and the voice playing softly in the background.

Lorraine bit her lip, her heart jumping out of her chest. Eddie took one more moment to look at her, his smile fading slightly. Tilting his head he got closer to her, reaching his hand from her neck to the small of her back. In a quick motion, he pushed her against him, instantly locking their lips together.

She quickly wrapped her arms around his neck, pressing against him as much as she could. They wanted to be as close as possible, their lips parting slightly as their tongues danced to enter one another, softly. Eddie, almost growled, crouching for a moment as he placed his hands underneath her thighs, quickly picking her up.

Lorraine didn't hesitate to wrap her legs around his waist as his hands ran up and down her back. She clinged to him, arching her back slightly, twisting her hand into his hair as she put more intensity into the kiss. They entered his room, only separating his lips from hers as they panted and caught their breath.

scene cut

"Wow." She laughed, still panting.

"Wow." He reciprocated, taking his hands to brush away the sweaty hair from his forehead.

He looked over to her, as did she. Looking into each others eyes, they giggled. Eddie took her hand in his, bringing it to his lips and gave it a small kiss. Lorraine moved herself, shifting to place the covers over her and laying her head on the pillow. Eddie followed, leaning his back against the wall, opening his arm to allow her to rest her head. She did, happily, letting Eddie play with her hair.

"I guess you were right." Eddie chuckled, kissing her head.

"About what?" She laughed, tilting her head towards him and raised her brows. He took his thumb and pointer to her chin.

"It is gonna be my year." He smiled, placing a small kiss on her lips.
