"Dustin!" she shouted, with a deep chuckle. "Dustin, come on!"
She tried to balance some of the plates that they had found in the mobile home, littered with scraps of grilled cheese, ham sandwiches and whatever Steve and Robin could cook up in a short amount of time. Dustin quickly rushed over and helped Lorraine with the leaning tower of plates that was quickly about to spill.
"Finally," She chuckled. "Now, go do the dishes."
"What?!" Dustin exclaimed, looking over to Lucas and Max who were both giggling softly to each other, still holding half of their meal in their hand. "But, but, but-"
"No buts," Lorraine grinned, wiping off her hands. "You're finished, so go on ahead and help the rest."
With a groan of defeat, Dustin rolled his head in a circle and marched into the mobile home. Lorraine looked at him, smiling like the Cheshire cat. Never having had a little brother before, she felt quite pleased bossing him around in a loving way.
"Damn, Wallace," Steve said, cracking open a Pepsi can as he sat on a lawn chair beside Robin. "You are bossy."
"Just 'cause we're going into battle doesn't mean we have to forget our responsibilities." Lorraine gave him a wink, as she started to fold the table that they'd taken out for their little table.
Robin was fiddling with a radio that she had found, trying to get some radio station although it seemed impossible, since they were quiet literally in the middle of nowhere. To Lorraine's surprise she was able to find just the hint of a melody, although it wasn't very recognizable.
She smiled, hugging her arms as she could feel the night breeze starting to creep its way onto the meadow. Her gaze lifted to the evening sky, dyed with hues of purple and pink, closely mixing in with a light blue of the night sky slowly rolling in. Scrunching her nose, her eyes crossed the tree line, searching for that one person she'd like to talk to at that moment. They hadn't spoken a single word since the argument, and she would rather clear the air then stay silent.
Finally her eyes met the tall figure leaning against a tree a few yards away, sneaking a cigarette. She softly smiled, making her way towards the tree where Eddie was leaning. The wind started to pick up, making Lorraine grip her arms a bit tighter, pushing away hair that decided to cling to her face. It almost felt like a trek to get to the forest, the light quickly diminishing as she got there, only the embers of the cigarette signaling where he was. As she leaned against the tree in front of him, he seemed to tense his muscles, like he was about to go into a shouting match once more.
"Eddie, I'm sorry. Again." She whispered, the crickets and the laughter of the others almost overpowering her words.
"No, Lorry," He pursed his lips, passing her the cigarette as he blew the smoke out from his lips. "I am. I shouldn't have shouted at you, and," He groaned, taking a hand to his curls and twirling them between his fingers. Lorraine took the cigarette and took a long drag. It was a few days since her last, and although she hadn't thought of smoking since, damn did it ease her nerves.
"I would do the same thing." He finally said, in a sigh. Looking over at Lorraine he waited, almost pouting, for a response. He hoped he would forgive her, for being such a dick about her helping him. About them helping. He really just didn't want her to get hurt, he didn't want anyone else to die for some freak like him.
"So we agree," She smiled softly, flicking the ash of the cigarette. "We're both sorry. We're both idiots."
Eddie chuckled deeply, not expecting her response so quickly. He nodded as he shoved his hands in his pockets and nodded, agreeing to her statement. "A perfect couple of idiots."
"You know I won't let anything happen to you," Lorraine continued, lowering her gaze from Eddie as she dug her shoes into the moist dirt. "I'll fight tooth and nail to make sure you come out on the other side. Literally."
Eddie was about to say something but both were interrupted by a burst of laughter. They both turned their heads as they heard Robin and Nancy begin to shout and sing with the radio, trying to get Steve up off the lawn chair and join them in their impromptu dance party. Lorraine laughed, watching as Lucas and Max rolled their eyes and headed inside the mobile home, probably to escape the second hand embarrassment.
"Where have all the good men gone, and where are all the Gods?!" They both shouted in unison to Steve, their arms raised as they hopped around in circles around him. Steve, although grinning at the girls, wouldn't budge.
Eddie looked over at Lorraine who continued to laugh hysterically, her head bopping to the music that was faintly playing in the background. He smiled deeply, watching as her hair whipped around her because of the breeze, but also because she was getting into the song. Her foot tapping, he knew she was holding in the feeling of shouting out the chorus.
Almost like she had read his mind, she turned her face and bit her lip, a sinister grin on her face. He raised his brows, pointing a finger to his chest as if asking a question.
"I need a hero!" She shouted at him, unfolding her arms from her arms, "He's gotta be strong, and he's gotta be fast!"
Eddie laughed, folding himself inwards, looking at Lorraine as she started to bounce around in circles just as Robin and Nancy were.
"And he's gotta be larger than life!" She took his hand, tugging at it like she wanted him to follow her lead. She took her other hand and dramatically placed it on her chest, shouting out the following lyrics.
Eddie shook his head, not knowing the lyrics, but smiling at how Lorraine was having a good time. He missed that smile, the smile of being excited about a song, or anything really. It felt to Eddie that it had been too long since he had seen that smile, like it was a ghost. He squeezed her hand in his, intertwining their fingers as she lifted their hands in the air, howling the lyrics. Only bopping his head, he couldn't keep his eyes off her, her eyes scrunched shut as she passionately sang.
The song faded in the distance, and so did the shouts of the girls, only huffing and laughter. Lorraine opened her eyes and looked at Eddie, chuckling as she panted from her own little dance party. She brought down their hands, swinging them back and forth as if they were two little kids.
He smiled at her, as she looked deeply into his eyes. The radio crackled a little, Steve playing with the knob as Robin scolded him. The riffs of Jimi Hendrix's All Along the Watchtower playing, ringing loudly through the empty field. Her expression changed, her nose scrunched as she bit her lip. Eddie knew how much she enjoyed this song, and how many times he had tried to play the solos for her, although failing miserably.
"The perfect song before you go into battle." She said, bopping her head harder.
"The perfect song for the end of the world." He raised a brow, getting closer to her.
"The perfect song for th-" Lorraine tried to say, but Eddie cut her off with a deep kiss. He pushed himself into her, against the tree she had been leaning on. Her breath was caught in her throat, surprised at how quickly the kiss intensified. Eddie ran his hand up her shirt, grabbing her by the hips as he brought her closer to him. Her hands came free from his, as she ran them in his hair, gripping his lower lip between her teeth as he slowly tried to pull away.
"Whatever happens, Lorraine Wallace." He said, softly, his eyes soft and warm although his lips curled in a sly grin.
"Whatever happens." She sighed, letting out a small moan, dropping her hands from his hair down his neck and to his chest.
He quickly took her hand and began to lead them deeper into the forest, the darkness enveloping them as the sounds of the music faded. Once they no longer could hear the others laughing and talking, Eddie quickly whipped Lorraine around and pushed her against a nearby tree, pressing himself against her as he took his lips to her neck.

Eddie softly helped her down from their position, both gasping for air as they quickly pulled their pants back up. In between giggles, Eddie got closer to Lorraine and placed soft kisses on her lips, wrapping his arms around her.
"At least if the world ends," He smiled against her lips "We got to do that one last time."
Lorraine playfully slapped his chest as he chuckled, falling backwards slightly as he dramatized the impact. He stumbled, throwing his head back and giving out a loud sigh with a smile on his face.
"And hey, under the stars, too. Can't get more romantic than that." He smiled, keeping his eyes on the stars that twinkled between the darkness of the leaves swaying in the wind. Lorraine slowly came closer to him, wrapping an arm around his waist as she also looked up.
"I think today was the perfect day," She whispered against his shoulder, leaning her cheek on it. Eddie glanced down at her, wrapping his arms around her.
"I love you, Lor." He smiled, grabbing a hold of her chin softly, pulling her into a kiss. He could feel her repeat the words against his lips, warm whispers and giggles caressing them as they swayed beneath the night sky.
