"God-fucking-damn it!" Cardin cried out as Jaune did another crossover at the right time. Causing Cardin to fall on his knees again as Jaune dunked the basketball.
It's a common sight to see a group of boys playing basketball during the weekends. In the past year Jaune and the rest of the boys in Class-B have bonded well as fellow huntsmen aspirants.
"Isn't it exciting Cardin? Starting Monday we'll be hunting Grimm all year!" Sky was enthusiastic about the prospect.
Much like everyone there, he is a student that's passionate about becoming a huntsman.
"Kinda in the middle of something Sky!" Try as he might, stealing the ball from the wielder of the emperor's eye is close to impossible.
Jaune passed the ball to the open man and a three was shot.
They match ended 70 -52, Jaune scored a whopping 37 points.
Jaune followed by Sky are currently in the middle of watching sparring matches at the library. In a day they will be beginning their hunting assignments. Weekly missions where a professor will guide them through a grimm infested forest.
"Do you think you're ready Jaune?"
Jaune just looked at Sky, Sky expected him to smile and nod but for the first time since the start of classes. The stoic Jaune Arc looked serious.
"As I'll ever be, the Grimm took everything away from me. I'll slaughter as much as I can tomorrow."
Even when Jaune was insulted before, Sky never saw him get angry. He only ever presented himself as the confident but soft-spoken Number 1. The fire in his eyes showed Sky one thing, this man hated the Grimm. No matter what his reason is, the atmosphere in the room shifted the moment he spoke.
"It'll be fun Sky, I can finally stop holding back."
In a weird way you can call it bonding.
The students fought, at the lead of one of the top 4 students. Jaune's group slaughtered a whole pack of beowolves. Cardin's cleared a small group of creeps and Sky's group subjugated an Ursa Major.
If their first expedition was a sign, then these kids had the talent and the right mentality when it comes to exterminating Grimm.
Sky couldn't help but wonder what their future at Beacon looked like.
The students have gotten used to going out and hunting Grimm. Over the course of the last year this is what they've done.
Graduation is in a month.
This is their last expedition. Jaune, Sky , Cardin and a kid named Russell. The top 4 of Arlon university.
Jaune and Cardin led one group while Sky and Russell led another. A simple excursion, one that should only last for 3 days. Each group had a teacher a veteran huntsman present.
'Everything should have been fine' Sky thought after seeing a Grimm takeover their teacher's body.
So why is it that everything went to shit?
"Russell! Run to Jaune and Cardin's camp, NOW! We can't handle this shit alone!"
A grimm that can possess people, like the fairy tale. "The Grimm Child" the students at their camp were possessed. Gaining porcelain white hair and skin, along with the dark black eyes to match.
They spoke but not in a human tone, repeating the last words of whichever man or woman they possessed.
This is the "Chill". A Grimm that uses your former allies against you.
'Get a hold of yourself Sky' he spun his Halberd. Feather's edge as he resolved himself to kill the Grimm.
He decapitated his old teacher as a bunch of Grimm surrounded him. He spun his halberd around as he looked at his fallen allies.
"My end may come but let them wonder, I was a bird who truly wanted nothing but power."
The Chill got him. Turning him into one of them he thought quickly as he was dying. The last words to say, so that it's easier for his comrades to take him out.
They sent out a distress signal to the nearest hunter's cabin as Jaune, the professor and Cardin all ran to the scene.
The rest of the students evacuated, letting the "big guns" do the dirty work.
The scene was like no other, a camp full of Grimm turned hunters, teeming with beowolves. Jaune saw his companion, a friend of 2 years wielding his halberd.
He felt his stomach churn as he dropped down and killed off a few beowolves. Cardin soon followed smashing through a group of Grimm, their professor headed for the larger Grimm.
"Sky... is that you?" A rhetorical question.
There was no response. Jaune weaved through a strike from a beowolf before thrusting his spear at the monster's head.
"This isn't funny Lark! You're...you're my best friend"
Again there was no response, Jaune switched from the emperor's eyes to his Sharingan. He beat the ever living shit out of the surrounding monsters.
"Sky, please bro. Don't do this to me!"
Finally he got a response.
"Kill...me"
A single slash of the blade ended his suffering. Once again Jaune felt pain.
[You have fulfilled the evolutionary requirements for the Sharingan, due to the system's capabilities the downsides of your new eyes have been nullified.
You have acquired the "Eternal Mangekyou Sharingan"]
Jaune felt a lone bloody tear leave his left eye.
Cardin rarely ever saw Jaune mad. But at this point, even he was pissed off. Their friends, the family he made over the past year died. Even worse, their corpses were desecrated by the Grimm.
An orange skeletal figure. Jaune with a growl released a lot of chakra. Cardin couldn't believe his eyes.
The skeletal giant destroyed every Grimm that stood in Jaune's way. Even their professor was shocked.
That night Jaune lost another comrade, someone that he considered family.
He looked up at the broken moon before punching the ground.
Does the world hate me?
Whenever I feel happy, even remotely happy. Whenever I feel like that hole has healed the world seems to love laughing at my face.
I looked at the list of eyes I had access to, now at 3.
I remembered a conversation I once had with him.
"Yoh Jaune."
"Yeah, what's up?"
"Do you believe in the Gods?"
"There's lots of gods out there Lark."
"Do you think they created the Grimm to fuck with us? Isn't a god meant to love their creations?"
Jaune stayed quiet.
"If I die in combat, let my sister know that I died fighting okay? That the coward Sky Lark fought till his last breath"
"You're not gonna die, not on my watch."
"Hehe with a monster like you and Cardin in my team. We'll be the strongest first years at Beacon! I'm telling ya"
I couldn't keep my promise.
What use is the system... what use are my eyes if I'm still not strong enough to protect anyone?
Cardin helped me back up as we both headed to the bullhead. "I fucking hate Grimm"
"Amen to that Jaune, Amen to that"
A month later graduation would commence, only 13 out of the original 25 students of Class B Graduated. A tragedy that further fueled the growth of the hate that Jaune harbored for the Grimm. He couldn't keep his promise for Sky, but one thing's for sure. Jaune's search for power would not end here.
It's not over, I'm not a hunter yet. Now brandishing his old partner's Halberd, Jaune looked to the sky with sour look. "I don't want to lose any more of my friends, losing you reminded me of how shitty this world truly was."
Behind Jaune is the rest of the survivors, Cardin simply nodded in his direction. "Let's go, the bullhead is coming in less than an hour."
I hope you enjoyed the end to our introductory Arc, we will be going to Beacon soon! I'm new to writing, I'm not great at dialogue or anything but I hope that the chapter served its purpose.
As always leave your thoughts in the review section!
