Chapter 1 - Piper meet Alma Madrigal, Julieta Madrigal, Pepa Madrigal and Bruno Madrigal

Little Piper run through the street of Salento because she is afraid after she accidentally froze her father's left arm because she has a argument and the topic was that she have a gift but everyone else in the family didn't have any gifts and she is playing the argument that she have with Jeff in her head

The argument

"I don't understand how a hidden disability daughter like you have a gift while your siblings and grandmother doesn't have any gifts," said Jeff as he look at Little Piper with angry in his eyes and voice "so either get rid of the gift or get out of this house because you are the reason that Alan was born premature and that Lucille is dead because of you"

"I am so sorry dad but I can't get rid of the gift" replied Little Piper as she look at Jeff with tears in her eyes but then she accidentally froze Jeff's left arm and she run out of the house

"YOU ARE A CURSE TO THIS FAMILY!" shout Jeff as Little Piper run away from Tracy island

The present

Little Piper must have been drying her eyes because she bumped into a 75-year-old elderly woman with grey hair and hazel eyes and the woman wears a long maroon/magenta dress with butterflies and streaks embroidered on it and mountain designs at the bottom of the dress with orange teardrop-shaped circles on her collar and flower-like symbols on certain parts of her clothing like ones that appear slightly above her elbows and she also wearing a chatelaine belt with a key and two pocket watches and black high heels and Piper fell to the floor

"Oh," said the 75-year-old elderly woman as she look around and then she saw Little Piper on the floor "hi you look like you are not from here"

Little Piper crawl backward from the 75-year-old elderly woman because she is afraid but then the 75-year-old elderly woman sit down on her knees and put her hand on Little Piper's shoulder in a comfort way

"It is ok you can trust me," added the 75-year-old elderly woman as she smile and help Little Piper off the floor "my name is Alma Madrigal and what is your name?"

But Little Piper say nothing because her throat is swollen and Alma saw that Little Piper is skinny and underweight and her clothes are broken and torn

"Come here little one," added Alma as she took her hand out to Little Piper "let go to casa madrigal which is my house"

Little Piper only nodded but she is insecure because she is afraid that she could hurt Alma but as she look at Alma, Little Piper saw that Alma was not afraid of her

"It is ok little one take your time" said Alma as she smile

Little Piper look at Alma and she is still insecure but she put both of her hands into Alma's hand and they walk to casa madrigal and Little Piper saw that Casa Madrigal is a three-story square building that encloses the ceilingless courtyard at its center and there are many small balconies located on the outer walls and the roof of the house is Spanish roof tiles and Little Piper look around and she saw that the ground floor consists of recreational rooms such as the kitchen and dining room and she also saw that the second floor is basically one long balcony that overlooks the courtyard and it's where all of the bedrooms are located and Little Piper saw that each bedroom door depicts its inhabitant using their respective gift carved into the wood and they emit a golden glow that illuminates the image and the bedroom doors also have the inhabitants first initial carved on the doorknob and relative to the front door Alma's door is in the center in the back with Pepa's door to the left and Julieta's door to the right and directly across from Alma's door on the opposite side of the house above the front door is the nursery door and she also saw that the third floor consists of Bruno's tower and a room with an open window that displays the magic candle

Then Little Piper saw a 50-year-old woman with tan skin and brown eyes that droop slightly downwards and her hair is curly dark brown hair with silver and white highlights swooped up into a messy updo with a bun and she is wearing a long-sleeved baby blue shirt with a tiffany blue long skirt and a cooking apron the same colour light brown flat shoes and golden pearl earrings and her apron is tied with a green ribbon and its pockets have various herbs and plants inside them and the apron also has some stitched patterns: plants on the pockets, hands holding the plants, mortar and pestle that representing her power of healing through her recipes working in the kitchen cooking arepas

"That is my eldest daughter Julieta Madrigal and she was gifted with the power to cook healing foods" said Alma as she took Little Piper to Julieta and then Julieta saw Alma and Little Piper

"Hi mum," added Julieta as she look at Alma and Little Piper and she saw that Little Piper's throat is swollen so she put an arepa on a plate and put the plate with the arepa in front of Little Piper "here eat this"

Little Piper look at Julieta and she is unsure if she can take something from a stranger

"It is ok little one take your time," said Julieta as she smile and then Little Piper took the arepa and slowly eat the arepa and the swelling on Little Piper's throat heal up along with the wounds on Little Piper's back and then Julieta saw how messy Little Piper's hair is "what is your name?"

"Pi…per," replied Little Piper with a stutter in her voice and she sit down on a chair that the house brought to her "can I have some more food please Julieta?"

"Of course Piper," added Julieta as she smile and put 5 more arepas onto the plate and give the plate to Little Piper "here you go Piper"

Little Piper smile and took the plate of arepas and start to eat the arepas and while Little Piper is eating the arepas, Julieta pick up a hairbrush that the house brought to her and went to Little Piper and start to brush Little Piper's hair

After Little Piper have finished eating the arepas, Little Piper felt that her hair was brushed and tied back so she got off the chair and went to find Alma and Julieta and after a while, Little Piper saw Alma and Julieta talking to a thin and unkempt-looking 50-year-old man with overgrown, curly black hair mixed with grey streaks and a big and pointy yet somewhat rounded nose with whitely clean teeth and a thin unshaved moustache and a light beard shaped like an hourglass on his chin and he has green hazel eyes with light freckles on his face and prominent eye bags and Little Piper also saw that he wears a hooded with ripped up green ruana cuffed at the elbows with hourglass prints over a burgundy shirt with brown and dark pants and black sandals

"What did you see in your vision Bruno?" ask Amla as she look at Bruno

"I saw a girl 4 years old try to understand her gift," replied Bruno as he saw Little Piper standing near the kitchen door and he look at a thick emerald slab in his hands before looking at Little Piper again and then he went to Little Piper "hi my name is Bruno Madrigal and I am the only son and youngest child of Alma and I was gifted to see into the future"

Little Piper smile a little bit and Bruno give Little Piper the thick emerald slab but when Little Piper took the thick emerald, she panic and accidentally drop the thick emerald slab and thick emerald slab shattered into pieces on the floor

"I…a…m…s…o…s…o…r…r…y…B…r…u…n…o" said Little Piper with a stutter in her voice and she look at Bruno

"It is ok little one," replied Bruno as he sit on his knees and pick up the shattered thick emerald slab but then Bruno saw that Little Piper was having a bad memory "little one are you ok?"

But Little Piper said nothing to Bruno and start to cry and then a 50 year old woman with fair skin with curly hip length auburn hair in a braid and green eyes and she also has a small gap between her two front teeth and she wear an beautiful orange and yellow dress with amber accents with a yellow ribbon on her head and she is wearing golden sun shaped earrings and she is wearing orange and brown sandals with golden details and black ribbons around her ankles and the collar has suns on it with raindrop patterns on her dress and lightning-bolt symbols on the bottom of her dress came to Little Piper, Alma, Julieta and Bruno

"Why are you crying little one?" ask the 50 year old woman as she pick Little Piper

"B…a…d…m…e…m…o…r…y" replied Little Piper a stutter in her voice and she look at the 50 year old woman with tears in her eyes

"It is ok little one," added the 50 year old woman as she took Little Piper to the nursery and put Little Piper into the bed and put a blanket over her "my name is Pepa Madrigal and I am the middle child of Alma and I was gifted with the power to control the weather via my emotions"

"My name is Piper and I don't know why but I was gifted to conjure and control ice," replied Little Piper as she show Pepa her gift "but I am scared that I could kill someone"

"It is ok because we all was trained to control our gifts and we can train you to control your gift," added Pepa as she kiss Little Piper's forehead "get some rest Piper"

"Ok," replied Little Piper as she lay down on the bed and put her head on a pillow "but can I call you mum?"

"Of course sweetheart" replied Pepa as she smile and then Little Piper fall asleep and Pepa leave the nursery and close the door
