After the battle on the beach, the group proceeds to the town on foot while MacMillan stays to watch the helicopter. What seemed to be an hour of walking later they stumble upon a mostly intact minivan parked in a ditch on a road that leads to the nearest Airport.
"Guys look," Chris said
"Oh finally, I don't know if I can march a step longer." Shofer moped
"Please lord let there be gas and keys in here," Brooks said
Shofer prepares to smash the drivers' side window open only to be stopped by Doug
"No don't, the alarm will go off and every freaksack within a mile will hear."
"Oh right," Shofer replied, surprised by his own imbecile action.
Python removes his lock picking equipment from his backpack, successfully unlocking it after a minute. He unlocks the rest of the doors as Brooks looks for the keys.
Unbeknownst to Shofer and the others, a zombie begins to shamble behind him. Chris notices after glancing in the scientist's direction.
"Doc look out!" He shouted, shooting the infected right between its eyes with a suppressed pistol, resulting in the others glancing over.
"Now you owe me one," Chris said
"Guys I found em, hop in," Brooks ordered as he sat down in the driver's seat.
"Come on fucker start." He uttered in frustration as the vehicle started after the 4th key turn.
"She's purrin, let's go," Doug said as they sped down the abandoned highway.
Location: Bristol, Wisconsin (Day 4 of H2N3 in the U.S)
Smitty is leaning against the wall outside the bar, a tad wasted as he takes several drags of his cigarette. As the smoke floats around him, the entry door opens.
"You coming back inside?" Bocko asked
"In a minute, why?"
"Bro you gotta see this shit on the tv it's fucking crazy." He replied as Smitty went back in.
They sit at the counter, watching the news as Smitty orders another beer.
"Flu-like illness huh, now what the fuck did the Illuminati do?" He blurted
"Who knows?" Bocko said
"Several individuals have also gone missing in downtown Kenosha. It is currently unknown if these cases are connected to the mystery illness that has spread around the areas of Georgia and Maryland. Stay alert and wait for official information." Said the newswoman
"Looks like I'll be staying here a while," Smitty said
As he drinks his beer, he overhears the female bartender serving him coughing aggressively.
"Hey, Missy, are you okay over there?" Bocko said
"Yeah, just allergies is all." She replied as she went into the kitchen, looking like death worn over.
"Worst allergies I ever saw in a long time," Bocko said
Several patrons, many drunk as sailors walk out of the bar. Smitty and Bocko, along with 10 or so other people left are all that remain.
When the other blond bartender brings Smitty his sandwich "Missy" comes out of the kitchen and back out on the bar, looking tired and weary almost like one of them zombies in a video game he played a while back, with pale skin and blood dripping down her nose.
"Oh my god, Cheryl you alright?"
Cheryl is unresponsive as the blond woman walks closer. As she touches her shoulder, Cheryl reacts with a burst of aggression, sinking her teeth into the blond's shoulder. She screams in pain as the rabid Cheryl keeps biting.
"What the fuck!" Bocko yelled out as everyone looked on, too horrified to do anything.
After she gets done mauling the poor blond she looks over at Smitty, homicidal rage spread all over her face. He pulls out his .44 from his leather holster.
"Ma'am, I don't know what kinda sickness you got but if you move another inch I'll be forced to put you down."
Cheryl doesn't react to his words as Bocko takes another look at her.
"Jesus Christ what's up with her eyes, they're almost lifeless." Bocko said
She snarls softly at him as what seems to be a tear of blood begins to travel down her eye. She takes a step towards him.
"I mean it missy don't come a step closer!"
The woman lets out an animalistic, almost inhuman sounding growl as she begins to climb over the counter. Smitty fires a round of his gun right in her forehead, spewing parts of the skull, blood, and other gore as she falls over the counter and on the floor dead. Everyone screams as they run out of the bar.
"Holy fucking shit!" Bocko exclaimed, horrified by the sight of the woman on the ground. Smitty climbs over the counter to help the other woman. He takes off his leather jacket to apply pressure on the wound.
"What's your name honey?" Smitty asked
"Bailey" She replied, tearing up from the pain of her wounds.
"Ok Bailey we're going to get the hell out of here and get you some help, just hang tight okay." He said, picking up the petite woman in his arms.
"We gotta get goin now, the cops are going to be here any minute," Bocko said as they went out the back exit. They go into Bocko's car, with Smitty and the woman in the back while Bocko floors it to the hospital.
"What happened to her? She was my best friend." Bailey said, crying.
"I don't know, there's some sickness goin round and I think we're gonna be in a world of hurt." He said
She hugs Smitty, crying in his chest as she does from the whole situation. While surprised, he hugs her back, giving her as much comfort as he could.
"Bro we're not gonna be able to get her to the fuckin hospital in time," Bocko said
"Step on it man fuck the cops" Smitty replied as he does so.
Location: Aurora Medical Center, Kenosha WI
When they arrive, they enter into a scene of all hell breaking loose. Various medical personnel run about as a good amount of people sit outside in the waiting room. Several are also periodically coughing and sneezing.
"Smitty there is no way in fuck I am waiting here with all these sick motherfuckers we got to go." Bocko said
"And just leave her?" Smitty replied
"Yeah she's here so she's not our problem anymore. Something is making people go all crazy and I'm not sticking round' to find out." Bocko said
At the desk the receptionist has already completed 4 phone calls before she looks up.
"Can I help you?"
"Yes ma'am. There was an attack and this woman has been bitten in several places." Smitty said
"Were the bites from an animal or person?"
"A person, the woman just started going crazy and biting the shit out of our friend right here." Bocko said
"Ok, someone should be out right away." She said as she resumed answering more rampant phone calls.
"Alright girl these guys are going to patch you up and you'll be all better ok." Smitty said
"Thank you. God, I want to go home." Bailey said
"I bet." He replied as she was wheeled off into a room.
"Now let's get the fuck out of here." Bocko said
"Agreed"
Time: 9:00 pm
Smitty and Bocko are on the roof of a deserted bar, picking off the undead hordes with their stockpile of guns.
"How many rounds you got left?" Bocko said
"20" Smitty said
"Must not be shootin enough zombies!"
Bocko grabs a hunting rifle from their weapons stash, shooting the various dead that have surrounded the area around the bar.
"The military will come for us, someone's gotta be coming right?" Smitty asked, mostly for his own piece of mind. It was them damn bites spreading this thing he now knew for sure.
"Not at this rate with all these sons of bitches around."
As the duo continue to gun down the hordes Smitty is welcomed by a familiar face, Bailey, the girl he had helped now shambling alongside the other gutbags.
A mournful expression forms on his face as he blows the creature's brains out in one shot. One of the zombies next to her turns around, shambling and leaning back and forth like a drunk. It presses it's foot against her corpse a couple times before walking away.
