AN: Hello everyone! I am FINALLY done with this chapter! It took so loong and it got really long too. Over 12.000 words! Wow... I am just happy that I was able to get it done before I go away today for a trip. I am going to have my laptop with me to continue drite the next chapter but I might take a breather for 2 days or something before writing the next chapter in earnest. Otherwise I will burn myself out.
Anyway, I did a lemon between Jakotsu and Inu Yasha. It is my very first time actually writing one and I am happy with how it turned out. But I will probably not write another lemon for a while though since this story is not that kind of story :) I might write one with Kagome and Bankotsu though. maybe their wedding night or something as an epiloge? I don't know, I will have to wait and see where my writing takes me. If anyone does NOT want to read the lemon in this chapter I have marked it properly so you can skip it.

Chapter 28.
The sun was just starting to rise when Kagome and the others got up to get themselves an easy breakfast before they continued their way to Edo. Bankotsu's and Sesshomaru's talk about the spirits blessings had gone on quite late into the night but Kagome, Rin and Shippo had still turned in early. Kagome going to lay down beside Bankotsu where he was sitting, still talking to Sesshomaru while Rin dragged Shippo to sleep with her near Ah-Un. Now they were all up while She and Sango prepared breakfast. It was just simple oatmeal and once everyone had their own bowl, they all started to eat. Except Sesshomaru of course. He declined just like Kagome had thought he would. It wasn't until a couple of hours later that they all had eaten and cleaned up everything that they were once again flying with Kouga, and his men and the wolves still opted to run below them. Kagome looked around slightly, they wouldn't reach Edo until noon, but she couldn't keep calm, she was worried for Inu Yasha, of course she knew that he could take of himself but from what Sesshomaru had told them about this alpha, omega and beta dynamic was that an omega's heat was similar to that of an alpha's rut. Betas apparently had those as well but theirs was much more manageable. When an alpha went into their rut, they became very dangerous. If the alpha didn't have a mate, they could be extremely violent and if the alpha didn't seclude themselves, they would, if they were too far gone into their basic instincts, attack any female that had potential to become their mate. That was why high-ranking demons like Sesshomaru and Kouga always prepared a place that they would have used their youki to create barriers that would keep them in while riding out their rut and keeping others out. Unmated omegas if they were high-ranking would let the alpha of their pack to help them seclude themselves somewhere safe until their heats were over so that they wouldn't be forced into a mating that they didn't wish for. The heat would make it so that they would want to find a mate that matched them but if they were to go alone the risk of getting forced into a mating while their heat made them unable to think rationally was just too great. Sesshomaru had said that once an omega has experienced their first heat the alpha of the pack would introduce other alphas to the omega and then the omega would be allowed to choose one that they were drawn to. That was the traditional way on how the omegas mate was chosen. Kagome shook her head and sighed. To think that Inu Yasha was an omega, that had shocked her but at the same time it explained so much why Inu Yasha had been such a door mat for Kikyo. Now she just hoped that everything went well, that Inu Yasha got to the well without too much trouble and that he did indeed contact Jakotsu. At that thought Kagome smiled as small but gentle smile. Jakotsu had become someone that she could lean on both in the past and in the future. Even though he was a man she just didn't feel any fear when she was near him. She could even have him in her room, being his model for the clothes he would design, and he could be near he without any issue even when she was in a state of undress. She could also be near the others as well but not in the same way as Jakotsu. The only other that could be near her in a similar way as Jakotsu was Bankotsu. At that thought Kagome looked up into Bankotsu's eyes and he met her eyes and smiled gently. At his gentle smile she smiled a little bit wider and leaned into his embrace and gave him a shy kiss under his chin making the young, now alive, mercenary to smile a little bit more and kiss her gently on the forehead. They hadn't gone very far into their relationship, just some hugging, light kisses and holding hands but Kagome was happy, and she felt like she was slowly getting over her rape. Her eyes then focused on the horizon, once they reached the well, she and Bankotsu would go back through the well to make sure Inu Yasha indeed had arrived there. If Jakotsu was there with him then they would go to her uncle's manor after making sure that Jakotsu and Inu Yasha were okay.
Sesshomaru watched their interaction carefully and then focused on where they were going, he could feel Kagome's aura and knew she was healing, it was slow but from what he could see the healing in the young mikos soul aura was starting to heal just a little bit faster. That was all he could ask for. Kagome had been one of his first few real friends so even though he didn't show it often he held her in high regard. He made a quick scan over the others, seeing that Rin and Shippo were playing some kind of game that the miko had taught them and even pulling Jaken into joining. He looked down and saw that the wolf prince and his two friends seemed to be doing something similar as they joked and played a little bit with their wolves. When Sesshomaru glanced towards the monk and demon slayer that was riding on the nekomata he noticed that they were talking quietly while glancing towards the miko and the former mercenary. He could hear some of what they were saying but decided to ignore it. They were just like always keeping an eye on their youngest friend. Sesshomaru mentally huffed as he then focused on where they were heading. It would be long if they kept this pace and didn't take unnecessary breaks. Thankfully they wouldn't need to stop to eat since the miko hade prepared food that they all could eat while traveling. He himself had gone to eat during the night while the wolf prince was guarding so he himself wouldn't need anything for some time.
Sango and Miroku glanced towards their friend and Sango smiled gently at how her friend was acting with Bankotsu. She could see that her friend was still hurt but she was healing that was all she could ever ask for. She also appreciated how gentle Bankotsu was towards her. Sango looked over her shoulder towards Miroku and smiled.
"I am still a little worried, but I don't think I have ever seen Kagome like this before. Bankotsu is so gentle, and he is so patient as well." Sango whispered and Miroku smiled as he looked at Sango and nodded.
"That is true. That was not something I would have thought before all of this. The Bankotsu from before was deadly and bloodthirsty but seeing him now and also his words from before has really eased my worries somewhat. I am sure he will be able to help Kagome heal and make her happy." He said and Sango nodded at that as they kept stealing glances towards their friend flying with Bankotsu and Sesshomaru.

"Let's get some rest, baby. We have all night together." Jakotsu's voice was calming and Inu Yasha soon fell asleep in his arms. Jakotsu looked at Inu Yasha as the half demon fell asleep and couldn't help the happy smile that tugged at his lips as he yawned and laid himself into a more comfortable position while still holding Inu Yasha in his arms. He closed his eyes as he felt how sleep was slowly pulling at him and soon, he too, was asleep until the next round.

The sun was slowly rising showing that it was close to noon when Kagome and the others started to reach the clearing were the well was and soon they all felt a very familiar presence standing in the clearing near the well and Kagome looked at Bankotsu and Sesshomaru and motioned them to land before she motioned the same for Sango and Miroku, flying on Kirara's back and once the landed she looked towards Kouga, the wolf prince had also noticed the presence but before he could take off, Bankotsu grabbed his arm and was actually able to hold him in place. Kouga snarled in anger towards Bankotsu but before he could start a fight with the former mercenary, Kagome spoke, while she put up a barrier to make sure there wasn't anyone of Naraku's Saimyoshos near that was trying to listen or spy on the surroundings near the well.
"Kouga, please calm down, this is either a trap of some kind or it could be that Kagura wants to tell us something. We know thanks to her leaving a message for Miroku and the others that Naraku wants to capture me again. I know that you want to avenge your fallen pack members that she killed, and I know that she must pay for that, but right now, we need to know why she is at the well, I need to know why she is here." Kagome said as she looked at him in worry but once Kouga heard Kagome's reasoning he couldn't help but agree that what Kagome was saying made a lot of sense. Kagura had always been one of Naraku's most unpredictable incarnations. One moment she was really trying to kill them all and in the next fight she would give them, hints on what that bastard Naraku was planning or a hint on where they needed to go. Kouga frowned slightly, he would rather try to attack and hopefully kill Kagura, but Kagome was right, they needed to know what Kagura wanted or if this was some kind of trap that Naraku had set up in order to kidnap Kagome again. Kouga let out a soft growl in anger at the thought of letting that bastard get his hands on Kagome again. He would rather fight until he was dead before letting that happened and at that thought he took a deep breath to calm himself down before he nodded towards Bankotsu that he was calm and wouldn't run off to fight Kagura. Bankotsu gave him a scrutinizing stare but then nodded and let go of the wolf demons arm and then looked at Kagome as she walked towards him and gave him a small smile, her body trembling slightly in fear, Bankotsu pulled her into a gentle hug and whispered calming words to her and kissed her forehead lovingly. Everyone in their group understood Kagome's fear. After all, Naraku wanted to capture her again and this time, the evil half demon wanted to keep the young miko at his side by force and for his own sick pleasure. So having Kagura in the clearing where the well was, was very unsettling.
After almost twenty minutes Kagome calmed down and looked at everyone as she took a deep breath.
"Sorry, guys. I needed to calm down. Right now, I think we need to come up with a plan in case this really is a trap. If it is a trap, we need to drive Kagura away from the well so that I and Bankotsu can go through it. I need to get back to my own time so that I will be safe, and, in that case, I won't be back until Inu Yasha is able to return together with me and Bankotsu. If it isn't a trap, we need to find out what Kagura want and we need to be quick about it, since Naraku controls her somehow." Kagome said and everyone nodded in agreement and then Sango stepped forward towards Kagome and Bankotsu.
"Okay then, we might as well walk the rest of the way to the well, once there we will just have to be cautious over Kagura until we know what is going on, and, Kagome, you don't have to apologize for getting scared, after what that bastard did it is an understandable reaction. I won't let him get near you again. I swear it." Sango said quietly as she gripped her Hiraikotsu in a firmer grip. At her words Kagome smiled gently and nodded slowly, not really thinking that a verbal answer was needed, she could feel that all her friends and Bankotsu felt the same way Sango felt.
"Okay then, but before we go to confront Kagura, I think we should have the children either go to Kaede to stay safe, or if possible, to send them to your fortress, Sesshomaru. It is just too dangerous right now. I think it would be better for them to be somewhere safe." Kagome said, of course, both Rin and Shippo declared that they did not want to leave but after some discussing and convincing the children it was decided that Jaken would take the children to Sesshomaru's fortress with Ah-Un. The children were still upset but decided to listen to Kagome and Sesshomaru, Kagome promising to go to the fortress once everything had settled down with a special treat for them, that had convinced, Rin and Sesshomaru convinced Shippo by telling him that he would have Jaken introduce him to one of his generals that was a fox demon that could train Shippo to fight. Once that was done Kagome created a charm that she gave Rin. The charm would create a barrier that would protect them as well as make it so that as long as they did not let go of it would make them completely hidden from the eyes of anyone looking at the sky. Once the dragon steed had lifted with its three passengers and the barrier had activated the adults looked at each other and nodded.
"Let's move towards the well, but keep up the barrier surrounding us, Kagome, it will help us get closer without alerting Kagura of our approach until we want her to know that we are there, she has probably already felt our presence, like we did her, but your barrier keeps us hidden now so she won't know when we will arrive at the well." Bankotsu said as he kept an arm protective around Kagome's waist. Kagome looked up at him and nodded in agreement before she looked towards Sesshomaru, the young demon lord was known to not really like tactics that hid his presence but his calm demeanor and the very small, yet gentle smile as he met her eyes with his own made her relax, Sesshomaru had nothing against this tactic. After that their group started to move on foot towards the clearing, everyone on guard on why Kagura was there. When they started to near the clearing, they could hear that wind was blowing in the clearing, which in itself was suspicious since the wind in the clearing was so much different from the wind in the forest. Everyone looked at each other and then Sesshomaru stepped up in front of everyone and looked over his shoulder and at his stare Kouga placed himself at Kagome's unguarded side but made sure to keep a little distance as to not make her feel uncomfortable. Bankotsu stayed at Kagome's other side, keeping one of his hands resting at her back while the other held his halberd, ready to attack if needed to. Miroku, Sango and Kirara placed themselves behind Sesshomaru and in front of Kagome, Bankotsu and Kouga while Ginta, Hakkaku and the wolves taking up the rear and once everyone was ready, as Sesshomaru walked into the clearing Kagome released the barrier, everyone following the demon lord closely, the wind picking up slightly more than when they were still in the forest and they all saw Kagura standing at the well, her fan covering her face slightly, however, they all could see how she slowly narrowed her eyes before she moved her fan, making the wind around in the clearing move faster, not that mattered much since it seemed like the wind was just circling around them, that is when Miroku spoke.
"The Saimyosho are in the trees surrounding the clearing, let's stay on guard." Miroku's words was calm, but he made sure to be ready to use his wind tunnel if he needed to. However, before anyone could demand to know what Kagura wanted, Kagura moved her fan slightly again and a small wind moved towards them and with it Kagura's calm voice reached them while the harsher wind that moved around the clearing picked up more force. Keeping the Saimyosho unable to get near them.
"I need the miko's help to get free from Naraku." Kagura said quietly, making sure to make it look like she was still going to fight them so that Narau, who was most likely watching her wouldn't suspect anything. It wasn't like it was the first time that Kagura made it hard for Naraku's insects to get close to her and her opponents.
Kagura's words shocked them all slightly, but Sesshomaru made sure to slowly take hold of his Bakusaiga, making sure to show Kagura that he wouldn't let his guard down. The same showed on everyone else as well, though Kagome looked slightly surprised at the woman's request and she slowly narrowed her eyes, she didn't know what she could possibly do to help Kagura. But she couldn't voice it to loudly either, that would alert Naraku that Kagura was planning something and she bit her lip as she slowly let her reiki gather into her hands, making Kouga back away slightly as a reflex and she gave him a small guilty look before she raised her hands and let her reiki move out to surround the whole clearing, creating a strong barrier that kept the Saimyosho outside but also keeping so that what was said inside the barrier couldn't be heard from outside. The Saimyosho that tried to get inside the clearing when Kagome raised the barrier was either thrown away by Kagura's harsh and strong wind or purified to ash when the was hit by the barrier Kagome raised. Once the barrier was in place, Kagome spoke.
"Sesshomaru, can you cover us with your youki inside this barrier, making it look like poison? Keeping us hidden and making it look like you are the one fighting Kagura?" Sesshomaru didn't look back at Kagome but gave a small move of his head, showing that he had heard her and then he darted towards Kagura, making sure to let out his youki and changed it so that it would look like poisonous smoke that, thanks to Kagura's wind that was still blowing around them inside the barrier, was spread until the whole clearing was covered by not just a barrier but supposed poisonous smoke inside the barrier as well. All while Sesshomaru moved closer to Kagura like he was attacking her, however, once he was sure that his youki had spread completely and covered the inside of the barrier with a light green like smoke he stopped his movements, only coming to a stop just a few feet from Kagura, who had gotten herself to be ready to attack, once she saw that the demon lord had stopped she slowly lowered her fan and looked at them all cautiously.
"And here I thought you had decided to not talk to me." Kagura said in her usual calm voice, but everyone in the clearing could hear that she had put up her guard up but then her eyes looked towards Kagome that had walked a little closer.
"What did you mean by needing my help, Kagura? Doesn't Naraku control you somehow, what can I do to stop that?" Kagome asked while Bankotsu stayed at her side and Kouga slightly in front of the two of them, growling lowly towards Kagura.
Kagura pursed her lips slightly at the miko's words and put her fan up to keep from showing too much of her expression.
"I honestly don't know. Kanna told me that you would be able to help me get free from that bastard." Kagura said and at her words Kagome frowned.
"Isn't Kanna completely loyal to Naraku though, how do you know that she isn't tricking you?" Kagome couldn't help to find it strange, why would, Kanna, who had showed the most loyalty towards Naraku suddenly tell Kagura to betray Naraku? She looked at Kagura as the wind demoness let out a frustrated sigh.
"I honestly don't know. Kanna is a demon that not even Naraku seems to be able to read since he has not just her heart but her emotions locked away. But I know one thing for certain. If Kanna thinks you can help me get my heart back from Naraku then you most likely can do it, therefore I am asking you miko, please help me get my heart back from Naraku." Kagura said as she slowly bowed towards Kagome, swallowing her pride in hopes to show them all that she was sincere. When Kagura bowed to them all most of them was shocked since Kagura had always showed a lot of pride, however one of them reacted to what she had said and narrowed his eyes.
"You said that Naraku has you heart, that means that your heart is separated from your body." Sesshomaru said calmly and at that everyone looked at Kagura and once she nodded her head in affirmative, they all were shocked.
"Is it really possible for a living being to not have their heart inside their body?" Kagome asked concerned. The one who answered her though, was Kouga.
"Yeah, some demons can do that, mostly insect type demons though and with Naraku having most of the shards of the shikon jewel, it wouldn't surprise me if he was able to do that. I don't trust her and her words, she has killed not just my pack members but many other as well, however, if she is serious then Kagura would have no problem agreeing to hand over her fan to us and let me restrain her, while we confirm what she is saying is the truth." At Kouga's words Miroku walked up to him and looked at Kagura cautiously before he looked back at Kouga.
"And how are we supposed to confirm it?" Miroku asked calmly and Kouga looked at him from the corner of his eyes.
"Well, there are two ways, the first one is that we just carve her chest open while making sure she does not die and then we help her heal. That is not the best way though since it will most definitely hurt like hell and the chances of her not surviving is very high. The second option is for someone that can let their own energy go inside her body to check, the best one for that job though would be Sesshomaru or either Kagome or you monk, but Sesshomaru is the safest bet since his youki won't risk injuring her internally unless he wants to do that. With reiki there is no way to guarantee that she won't be hurt somehow." Kouga said as he looked at Kagura with anger and hate still burning in his eyes, but even he wasn't stupid enough to not realize that if they could get Kagura out of Naraku's clutches they would be able to stop a lot of Naraku's plans for at least a while. That didn't mean that he was going to forgive the bitch though, oh no he still wanted to avenge his fallen pack mates but for now he would wait. If they could truly free Kagura then whatever information she could give them on Naraku and what he was planning would be worth put his revenge on hold for a little bit. Kagome looked at Kouga and was slightly pale at the first suggestion and he noticed that Kagura was very pale as well and she shook her head slowly to get that idea out of her head and then looked at Sesshomaru.
"Can you do that, Sesshomaru? Even if what Kagura says is the truth, I think I need to know for certain before I can even begin to think of a way to help her. I still don't even understand why Kanna would think that I could do anything." Kagome asked quietly and Sesshomaru looked at her slowly before he looked at Kagura and stepped forward as Kouga did the same, holding out his hand towards Kagura for her to hand over her fan, and once she did that Kouga handed it over to Miroku and then walked up to Kagura and stood behind her as he held her hands in a strong grip behind her back. Kagura let out a soft growl but didn't resist, she needed to cooperate if she truly wanted the miko's help.
Once Kouga had restrained Kagura Sesshomaru stepped up in front of her and looked at her coldly before he raised his hand that was not holding his sword and let his youki swirl around Kagura before it slowly entered her body, when that happened, Kagura stiffened slightly in discomfort and closed her eyes tightly, trying her hardest not to resist the youki that was forcing itself inside her body. After just a few minutes, Sesshomaru let his youki retreat and leave Kagura's body and he looked at Kagome.
"She tells the truth, her heart is not inside her body." He said and Kagome nodded before she looked at Kagura.
"Then the mystery is on how Kanna could be so sure that I could free Kagura and why she would betray Naraku by telling Kagura something like that." Kagome as she looked at Sesshomaru to see if he had any ideas. Sesshomaru nodded and then looked at Ginta and Hakkaku.
"I have a theory, but first. You two, I want you to move around inside the barrier, acting like we are having a more active fight against Kagura, we are hidden, and the sound won't reach outside but we should still do something, just in case Naraku start to suspect something." Sesshomaru and at his words Gina and Hakkaku both startled and then looked towards Kouga, who nodded for them to do that and after that the two wolf demons walked away from the rest of the group with the wolves following behind them and after what looked like the two of them talking to each other they started to spar with each other, making sure to use as much force they could without hurting each other, making the smoke that swirled around the barrier to move slightly to make it seem like some sort of fighting was happening. Once they started, they all looked towards Sesshomaru again, Kouga making sure to have a firm hold of Kagura just in case she tried anything. Kagome watched Sesshomaru as she waited for him to continue.
"Kagome, you told me that the shikon jewel was inside your body when you first came to this era, correct?" Sesshomaru asked calmly and once Kagome nodded in agreement he spoke again.
"It has also been proven that Naraku's plans to harm you and the others with the power of the shikon jewel has barely any effect on you, then it wouldn't be impossible for you to be able to help Kagura. Since you have healed the fox kit that was traveling with you with your reiki in small amounts. It might be so that since you had the jewel inside you that your reiki, unless you wish for it will not be harmful towards demons. Maybe, you can even create a new heart for her and therefore sever the link that connects her to Naraku through her current heart." Sesshomaru said and everyone blinked in shock before Miroku spoke.
"That is indeed an interesting theory, and it is a very possible thing to consider. We always assumed that Kagome was immune to the power of the shikon jewel since it had been inside her and that is why Naraku couldn't use its power to directly harm Kagome." Kagome stared at them all in shock.
"W-Wait a minute, that may be true but how would I be able to create a completely new heart? I- I mean I don't even know whether or not a demon's heart is the same shape or have the exact same functions as a human heart..." Kagome said, her voice showing how confused she was. Bankotsu patted her comfortably on her shoulder.
"Calm down, Kagome. We can at least try to see if this theory is accurate. But as you say, you need to know if there are any differences to a demon's heart from how a human's heart is." Bankotsu said gently and then looked towards the others.
"Well, I don't know that… Beast type demons usually have similar heart to that of their normal animal counterpart. But I never really thought much of and if there were any differences between the hearts of humans and demons that have a humanoid appearance…" Kouga said as he shrugged and Sesshomaru just blinked and then spoke.
"I never cared to know that. But I do know how a demon's heart looks like." Sesshomaru said coldly and Kagome looked at him and a small spark of annoyance could be seen in her eyes and she let out a soft sigh. She then let her backpack slide down to the ground and took out a notebook and a pen and handed them to the demon lord.
"Then would you please show it to me by drawing it in my notebook?" Kagome asked making everyone stare in shock, even Miroku and Sango couldn't get used to how their friend could be so casual towards the deadly demon lord. Even Ginta's and Hakkaku's sparring was halted slightly in shock before they restarted it, though it was obvious to everyone that they weren't really focused on it. Kouga just blinked but shrugged the shock of. Kagura however stared at the miko and demon lord in shock, sure she knew that the two had become friends, but it was still completely different from hearing about it to actually see it for real. She blinked slowly and everyone watched how Sesshomaru took the notebook and the pen with a small but amused tilt of his lips, and he opened the book up to an unused page and started to sketch. Kagome watched how Sesshomaru started to draw the picture she would need and then she turned and looked at Kagura.
"Kagura, there is something I need to know before I even try this." She said as she looked at the wind demoness with cold eyes and Kagura looked at her and slowly nodded.
"How do we know that you won't attack us if I am able to free you from Naraku?" Kagome asked calmly and that made everyone except Sesshomaru look at Kagura. At the question Kagura scowled a little at the question as she hadn't really thought about that. It was true that she wasn't their ally and also true that they had no guarantee that she wouldn't attack them, not that she would really do that. If the little miko was really able to save her from Naraku's control she would never attack them again but to prove that was the hard question. She looked up at Kagome and her eyes was filled with a burning resolve.
"I swear I will never attack you or your friends again if you can just free me from that bastard. I don't want Naraku to find me. If possible, I would rather stay somewhere, where I can stay hidden but still have some freedom to enjoy the wind. However, if you ever needed me, Kagome, I will be there to help you, I swear it. Even if it would cost me this new life, I will help you." Kagura said and everyone stared in Kagura in shock while Kagome blinked in shock and confusion. However, before she could ask what Kagura meant, Sesshomaru walked up to her and handed her the notebook and pen back and then he looked at Kagura before he spoke.
"Kagura, your choice of words, do they mean, that you plan on giving Kagome the Demonic oath?" Sesshomaru looked down coldly at Kagura who only nodded in determination.
"Yeah, that is correct. I Will tell you all everything I know about Naraku's plans as well" Kagura said. Before more questions could be voiced Kagome cleared her throat as she opened the notebook and found the page Sesshomaru had made the sketch in and started to study the picture. She didn't know what this Demonic oath was but she could see that it was something that every demon in the clearing knew what it was and that is was something very big to announce but right now she wanted to focus on the matter of freeing Kagura from Naraku by creating her a completely new heart.
"Before that, I think we should see if I am even able to do this. I have never heard of a miko that have been able to even create a new heart for someone much less a demon's heart." Kagome said as she studied the picture closely. A demon heart didn't seem all that different from a human heart. There were some differences but not anything too complicated she thought and when she heard Miroku speak, she looked at him.
"That is true. Not even in the history of humans has there been anything mentioning of a miko with such power. However, I think you most likely can do this Kagome. After all, you did heal Lord Sesshomaru and had his lost arm regrow. Maybe that is why Kanna told Kagura that you could free her." The monk said calmly. Kouga, and his friends, who had not known this all three looked at Sesshomaru and then Kagome in shock and in awe. Kouga glanced down at Kagura, who he was still holding securely and wondered if maybe this could really be done. He had been skeptical about it but hearing that Kagome had healed Sesshomaru's arm and helped it regrow was something really, amazing. As such he spoke.
"If that is true, then that is absolutely amazing. Depending on the demon a regrowth of a severed limb can takes quite some time. Sesshomaru's arm would've grown back after some time but to have it grown back like this is just incredible. Kagome, I agree with the monk. If anyone can do this, then it is you so give it a try. We will just take things as they go from here on." Kouga spoke calmly and Kagome nodded slowly, still a little bit uncertain but walked up to Kagura and sat down in the grass, motioned her to do the same. Kagura looked down at the miko and the looked over her shoulder at Kouga and slowly sat down, Kouga following her and then they both was sitting as well. both looking at Kagome, everyone else was as well since they knew that whatever happened, it wasn't something they wanted to miss.
Kagome took a deep calming breath and placed the notebook opened, showing the picture of the demon heart and the slowly closed her eyes to calm herself, letting her reiki slowly move inside her, her thoughts going out to how she didn't want to harm Kagura, how she wanted to free the wind demoness from Naraku's clutches. How she wanted to not just create a completely new heart for Kagura but also completely sever her connection to her current heart that Naraku had under his control. She could feel how her reiki responded and almost let out a soft humming inside of her as it moved, and she opened her eyes again as it gathered into her hands, and she slowly moved closer to Kagura and looked into her eyes. Kagura met her calmly and nodded, showing that she was ready. At Kagura's nod, Kagome moved her hands and placed them over Kagura's chest, letting her reiki stay in her hand. She suddenly startled and let out a gasp and almost pulled her hands back towards herself but stopped herself and continued to watch as her hand literally sunk through the fabric of Kagura's kimono and straight into her chest, she looked up in worry at Kagura who only looked mildly worried but then looked at Kagome.
"Continue, miko. It does not hurt at all, if anything it just looks uncomfortable." Kagura said and Kagome nodded slowly and then focused once again as she cupped her hands where Kagura's heart should be and could feel the void and she closed her eyes and focused on her powers guiding them inside in her hand and she slowly started to shape the organ. Making sure to pay extra attention so that all the valves, vein and everything else was created correctly from the sketch she memorized just a few moments ago. After the heart was created, she paused, making sure not to let it connect to Kagura's body as she looked for the connection to her old heart and she soon found it. Like a dark red glowing string of energy that couldn't be seen by the naked eye that moved from Kagura away, far away from them and she slowly started to let her reiki to connect the new heart to Kagura, helping her youki to accept the new organ and just before the new heart fully connected to the body she sent out her reiki towards the connection to the old heart and snapped the thread of energy just as the new heart was completely in place, everything connected correctly. Kagome could sense how the connection to Kagura's old heart was completely gone. She couldn't sense Naraku's youki at all inside Kagura and once she knew that she slowly pulled her hands out, making sure to not lose her concentration and once her hands was out, she opened her eyes again watched how Kagura let out a shocked gasp and without thinking suddenly snatched her hands free from Kouga, who had been slightly distracted, watching Kagome, she slowly placed her trebling hands over her chest and felt the heartbeat inside of her. Kouga had tried to restrain her, but Kagome stopped him by shaking her head. Everyone in the clearing watched Kagura quietly.
Kagura held her hands against her chest, her hands trembling as she could feel the heartbeat inside of her. Tears filled her eyes, tears of relief, happiness and awe. She was free, she couldn't even feel Naraku's youki inside her anymore. The connection was completely gone. She let out a relieved sob as tears started to fall from her eyes and down her cheeks and before anyone could react, she had thrown herself into Kagome's embrace, hugging her tightly yet gently. Letting her tears fall freely as she started to cry and sob while she continually thanked Kagome over and over again. Kagome was shocked when Kagura suddenly threw herself at her and hugged her but when the other women started to cry and sob in her arms while she repeatedly thanked the young miko, Kagome couldn't help but smile gently and hugged Kagura back. It didn't seem like Kagura would let go of her just yet and she also saw everyone else being on guard in case Kagura did go back on her words and tried to harm her. She would let Kagura let out everything and then they all could talk. It was going to be a long talk, she could feel it and she was relieved that her barrier was going to stay strong still. She sent a silent thank you towards Renji, who helped her train so that she could multitask when she was using her reiki.
Kouga watched as Kagura cried in Kagome's arms, while she repeatedly thanked the other woman. In truth, he had a lot of mixed feelings with this. A part of him could of course, understand Kagura's happiness. He himself knew that if he had been under the control of someone else, he would've hated it. Wolf demons were known for their strong sense of freedom. While many other high demons like Sesshomaru, liked order and such, the wolf demons did not. Sure, they respected others way of life but only those that respected their way of life. Another part of him, however, was still wanting to avenge his fallen pack members that Kagura had slaughtered. His thoughts were interrupted when he noticed that Kagura had finally stopped crying and had let go of Kagome. She was now sitting in front of the young miko and drying the tears from her face with the sleeve of her kimono, she looked slightly embarrassed but that was when Kagura's scent suddenly caught his attention and before he could think, his hand shot out and took hold of Kagura's shoulder and moved closer to her, he noticed that Sesshomaru also noticed and looked more closely at the wind demoness.
Sango and Miroku had mixed feelings about what was happening. Sure, they were happy that what Kagome had tried to do was achieved. Kagome had truly been able to create a completely new heart for Kagura and freed her from Naraku's control. But seeing the wind demoness hugging and crying their young friend while thanking her. Well, that was quite shocking. Kagura, in their opinion had always appeared as a strong and prideful demon so to see this scene was something they wasn't sure how they felt about. Yes, they were happy that it all had worked, yes, they were proud of Kagome for succeeding but they couldn't shake of all the mistrust they had for Kagura. They were worried that Kagura would try to harm Kagome or try to kidnap her, that all of this was just a plan from Naraku. When Kouga suddenly grabbed hold of Kagura's shoulder they both reacted. Sango took a firmer hold of her weapon and was about to run up to her friend, fearing that this had all indeed been a trap, but then she noticed how Miroku, who though didn't move to go to Kagome's side since he was holding Kagura's fan, her main weapon, suddenly let his arms relax, his staff jingling a little as it was lowered slightly. She looked at him and saw him stare in confusion at Kagura and she looked towards the woman as well in confusion and saw that all the demons in their group all looked either slightly curious, that being Sesshomaru, or confused, that being Kouga, Ginta and Hakkaku as they looked at Kagura, who looked at them all in confusion. Sango also noticed that Kagome blinked in shock as she watched Kagura more intensely. Bankotsu just looked completely uninterested though, he was watching Kagome more closely than Kagura. Before Sango could ask what was going on, Kagura spoke.
When Kagura suddenly felt a strong grip on her shoulder and her being pulled backwards a little she turned towards the wolf prince to glare at him but when she noticed his confused stare, she raised her brow and calmed herself. If the wolf prince wasn't going to start an argument then neither would she, but the sudden confusion in his eyes did pique her interest though.
"What is it now? I am not going to harm the miko." Kagura said, her voice slightly hoarse from her sudden crying attack, her eyes were slightly red as well, not by much, but it was noticeable. However, she could never have anticipated Kouga's counter question.
"Why have your scent changed? You do not reek of Naraku's scent anymore." Kouga said slowly. His words stunned Kagura as she blinked at him blankly for a few seconds before his words actually registered in her mins and her eyes widened in shock.
"W-what do you mean?" Kagura asked confused as she looked at everyone else in the clearing. However, her confusion only grew as Kagome spoke.
"Your youki is different as well, which shouldn't be possible normally. Before your youki was very similar to Naraku's. it was just as black as his, but it had some dark purple mixed in it, but now, all I see is a youki in purple with some red mixed in it." Kagome looked a little confused herself at that and she looked at the one she thought might know the answer, Sesshomaru. Everyone else also looked at the demon lord, hoping that what had just been revealed could be answered by him.
Sesshomaru had noticed as soon as Kagome had done what would normally be impossible that Kagura's scent changed, the same was with her youki being completely different. It was quite intriguing and once the wolf prince pointed out to Kagura and everyone else that her scent was suddenly different Kagome also told everyone that the wind demoness youki was different as well. The young miko then looked at him, hoping that he had an explanation. He looked at them quietly for a few seconds before he spoke.
"I do not have an answer to that. I know that all creatures' scents changes with time slightly. From pup to adolescence then to adult their scents stay relatively the same except for the scent to mature as they grow older. A scent also changes slightly when they are mating or in human terms, marrying each other. But I have never heard of a scent to completely change nor of ones youki changing at all. A demon's youki is the same from the day are born to the day they die. Of course, some demons can disguise their scent but their youki cannot be disguised completely. That is evident when it comes to demons such as fox or raccoon demons that specialize in this tactic. I have however no answer to as for why the changes in Kagura has happened." Sesshomaru was calm as he looked at Kagura and Kagome, but Kagome could see the small, barely there, sign that he was curious of this and Kagome sighed and looked at Kagura, trying to come up with some kind of explanation when Miroku carefully cleared his throat to get everyone's attention, once he had it, the monk spoke calmly.
"I might have an idea of what could be the cause of this, albeit this is just a theory, and it will probably not be something we can prove. But I think it might have something to do with the fact that Naraku is made up of a lot of different demons. When Naraku got enough shards of the shikon jewel he got the ability to cast aside demons that he had absorbed into his body that he felt he didn't need. It stands to reason that maybe, the incarnations that Naraku can create might actually be the absorbed demons themselves or something very close to them and what they might've looked like before they were absorbed by him." Miroku spoke calmly and once he had said what he wanted everyone in the clearing had all different thoughts about it. The theory sounded farfetched, even Miroku knew that but maybe some truth could be found in it. Kagome looked at Kagura thoughtfully while Kagura herself seemed really confused by it all and she then looked at Sesshomaru.
"Sesshomaru, how rare are elemental demons?" She asked quietly and at that everyone looked at her and then towards Sesshomaru.
"They are very rare, and they always stay with their own clan, it is very rare for an elemental demon to leave their clan's territory. Though when something like that happens the clans are obligated to report it to the four lords so that we are informed of it. I haven't heard of any wind elementals leaving their clans for a long time. Of course, sometimes they don't report it, but I don't care for whether they report it or not. If any demons cause trouble in my lands, I'll kill them. If Inu Yasha hadn't killed the thunder brothers back then, I would've killed them myself since they attacked villages on my land." Sesshomaru said coldly and then he looked at Kagome, who seemed to think of something.
"What is it Miko?" He asked and he watched how she snapped her head up to look at him and blinked.
"Um… I am just thinking of Miroku's theory. If he is right and Kagura is a wind demon that Naraku absorbed at some point to then created as his incarnation. Why did she leave her clan? What happened to her original soul? Is the soul that Kagura has the original wind demon's soul? In that case, why does it seem like she does not remember anything of before becoming a part of Naraku? Was her soul pulled into the same darkness that Muzo talked about? If not, then what or who's soul is she having inside of her now? I mean, it's not like Naraku actually gave birth to her, nor can he create a soul, so how was he able to give her a soul? In fact, how has he been able to do that to all of his incarnations? He can call for a soul when he revives demons and humans by using a shard of the shikon jewel, but that soul is always in the rightful body…" Kagome said slowly and everyone in the clearing all blinked before they all turned to look at Kagura more intensely. Kagura looked at them all confused and then huffed.
"Don't bother asking me. I am pretty sure that Naraku does not have the power to force a soul into a body that the soul does not belong to. He can also not just create a new soul. Kanna, who can capture souls with her mirror can't do more than keep them inside her mirror. I am sure that if Naraku had the power to create a soul he would've replaced mine a long time ago." Kagura looked at Kagome and then down to the ground. This was all so weird. What they all had said made sense. That weak useless hair demon that Naraku had released when he abandoned his castle had, had a soul as well, but how was that possible? Was it like Kagome said, could every soul of every demon that Naraku has been absorbing been put in some kind of hibernating stage? At those thoughts Kagura's eyes widened in shock and she looked up at Kagome and took her hands in her own.
"Then if it is true that this is my soul and even my very own body, then why do I not remember anything of who I was before Naraku absorbed me? That freak Muzo was able to remember who he was before Naraku reabsorbed him. Even that hair demon had at least some vague memory of before being a part of Naraku. So why have I not recalled anything? All these years and I remember nothing." Kagura said, her voice trembling slightly as she spoke. Just the thought of how weird it was that she had never once recalled any memories of a life before being one of Naraku's incarnations. Most of the incarnations that Naraku created ended up dead at the hands of his enemies in less than a few weeks, months tops. In fact, Kagura and Kanna was the only ones that had stayed alive all this time. So, wouldn't it stand to reason that she or even Kanna would remember at least something? Kagura's racing thoughts were interrupted by Kagome squeezing her hands gently and she looked the younger woman and she felt utterly lost.
"Kagura, you really don't remember anything?" Kagome asked gently.
"Anything is fine, just think back carefully, a memory or a feeling that seems nostalgic?" Kagome pressed gently and Kagura frowned as she tried to remember, she slowly closed her eyes and let her mind wander back to anything she remembered and that something like a splash of ice-cold water made her snap her eyes open and let out a soft but hurried huff of air from her lungs. There had been something! Kagura looked into Kagome's eyes as tears started to form in her eyes again.
"I… I do remember something. I just thought it was a dream I had just as I was slowly waking up for the first time after I woke up as one of Naraku's incarnation. I heard a voice, a woman's voice telling me to let the winds guide me home." Kagura said, her voice filled with uncertainty. At that both Kouga and Sesshomaru reacted as the two of them both was staring at Kagura. The humans and Ginta and Hakkaku both were slightly confused at the two's reaction and Kagome raised her brow in question at them as well and Kouga let out a soft growl as he looked at Sesshomaru before he spoke, his gaze falling back at Kagura.
"That is a saying from a wind elemental clan that lives on the border of the western and eastern land. They are known for not interacting with any other demons outside of their own clan, they interact with the four lords out of necessity to trade for things they can't procure by their own means but that is as far as their interaction with other demons go. If Kagura was part of that clan before she was absorbed by Naraku then I know for certain that no report from that clan has been submitted. Which makes me wonder why they didn't, they are a clan that wouldn't accept one of their own leaving, unless there was a really good reason." Kouga said and Kagome blinked at that and then she let out a huff but before she could say anything Kagome spoke.
"Alright, we can talk about this more later. We can't take more time to do it right now. I would rather continue but it had been some time since we cut of Naraku's connection to Kagura we need to move on." At her word Kagome grabbed her bag that was on the ground near her and started to rummage through it and once she found what she was looking for, she pulled it out. It was some clothes. With that in her arms she looked at Kagura.
"For now, you will have to borrow some of my clothes. I want Naraku to think that you are dead for now. As such that kimono of yours need to go. We will get you a new one later. For now, I will help you change into these. Miroku, can you prepare some ash? I am planning on making it look like Kagura was purified. Sango, help me with Kagura. Kouga Please let me borrow the wolves." Kagome said, Miroku nodded in understanding and then went around the clearing, collecting some twigs, leaves and anything that could be burnt to ash and then started to burn it, making sure also mix in some reiki in it as it burned. Sango planted her Hiraikotsu in the ground and then went to Kagome's side to help. Kouga nodded reluctant and then motioned the wolves to surround the women. Once that was done, he turned his back at them. He didn't trust Kagura still, but he would at least give the demoness some privacy so that she could change. Ginta and Hakkaku did the same. Sesshomaru was looking around the clearing, making sure that his poisonous gas was still cloaking everything. He knew it was doing just that, but he didn't get an unnecessary glare from the little miko. For a human, and a woman at that, the girl had a sharp tongue when she really decided to use it and though he was amused when she scolded Inu Yasha he had no intention on getting it. He had already gotten it once that time when Rin collapsed from that illness called, the flu.
Bankotsu didn't move from his spot, but he did turn his back at the women. He wanted to be the closest to Kagome no matter what after all. Just because Kagura was freed didn't mean that Naraku didn't have other incarnations close or another plan on how to kidnap her. He knew Sesshomaru also was in guard, but he had sworn to himself as well as his brothers and cousins that he would protect Kagome no matter what. Kagura moved closer to Kagura, Sango follow her, and she looked at Kagura with calm but kind eyes.
"Now, hurry and undress Kagura." Kagome said and Kagura looked at her and then at the weird clothes in the mikos arm but then sighed. She knew that the miko was right. She could keep the kimono that she was wearing. But she was slightly worried about the clothes that the miko had chosen for her. She did still remember that weird and very short kimono that Kagome had walked around in before after all. With a sigh she started to undress, noticing that the slayer moved to stand behind her and she pursed her lips a little, she really didn't like to be crowded like this. The wolves stayed all around them as well. she slowly let the kimono fall down to the ground and was just about to stand up when the slayer suddenly let out a gasp of surprise. Kagura looked over her shoulder and looked at the young woman quietly raising her brow in question. Sango met her eyes with her own but only shook her head and motioned her to continue to undress. Kagura narrowed her eyes at that but then clicked her tongue and finished undressing. Kagome threw a quick glance at Sango but figured that whatever it was that had caught Sango's attention could wait, just like their earlier discussion. For now, they had to get Kagura dressed and then hide her so that they could proceed with making Naraku thinking she was dead.
It had not been an easy thing to explain to Kagura what the modern underwear was and it had made Kagome and Sango blush quite a lot since the majority of their group was demons and would be able to hear the explanation on each garment. Bankotsu, who had stayed close as well had also been able to hear it. Kagome knew this only because his ears and neck had been red, showing that he had been blushing while they made the explanation. She had seen it when she glanced towards him and that had only made the young miko blush even harder. Kagura had found the modern underwear quite interesting and had made no real fuss to wear them. That had been a small saving grace to Kagome since she still remembered how reluctant and skeptic Sango had been before she had given in and tried a few underwear sets and even sports bras that Kagome had gotten her in her sizes. Now though the slayer really preferred the modern clothing over what she used to wear underneath her slayer uniform or er kimono. The dark blue jeans had been a little bit harder since they would show to much of her body, in Kagura's opinion but she had relented when the argument that they would be easier to move in than what a kimono would ever be. The wine red long-sleeved shirt had also needed some persuasion before she had put it on. The clothes hugged the curves of Kagura's body gently and Kagura realized fast that she really could move more freely in these types of clothes. The best part in her opinion though, had been that the shirt was long and stopped just above her butt, something that made her feel a little bit more secure. Once she was clothed in the clothes Kagome had chosen, Kagome gave Kagura's kimono to Sango to hold while she slowly pulled out the pins and that held Kagura's hair together in her usual bun and once the long black hair fell down the wind demoness back Kagome handed them to Sango as well. after that she pulled out her hairbrush and started to brush Kagura's hair gently to get any knots out of it a then pulled into a ponytail on top of Kagura's head and smiled. Kagome then asked Kagura to lay down to hide around the wolves and Kagura then easily asked the animals to stay close to Kagura and to make sure she was completely hidden. The wolves easily obeyed since they, just like Kouga, Ginta and Hakkaku saw Kagome as part of their pack. Kagura was confused but then sighed and made sure to lay still.
Once Kagome was sure that Kagura was hidden, she took the clothes that Sango was holding and walked to where Miroku was now standing. Holding the newly formed ashes in a cloth. Kagome placed the kimono on the ground making it look like someone could have been laying there, she then took the ashes and poured it inside the Kimono as well as some of it where Kagura's head should've been as well as placing the hair pins there. Kagome let out a soft sigh and looked at Sango.
"Sango, can you get me one of my arrows, for the finishing touch?" Kagome asked her heart sister and Sango nodded as she hurried to get one of the arrows. When she returned Kagome thanked her and took the arrow and poured a lot of her reiki in it and then stabbed it into the fabric of the kimono, making sure that the arrow didn't get stuch into the ground, her reiki made the ashes spark and smoke slightly and then Kagome stood up.
"All right, everyone. Get into a position where it looks like we have been fighting and is now slowly relaxing since Kagura has now been 'killed' make sure not to do or say anything unnecessary." Kagome said as she hurried towards where her bad was to pick it up and then walked to where her bow and arrow had been left and placed her bag on the ground and picked up the quiver of arrows and bow, making sure that she was standing correctly so it would look like she fired the arrow from where she was standing.
At Kagome's words, everyone hurried into a position in the clearing. Ginta and Hakkaku went to stand by the wolves like they always did, Sesshomaru and Bankotsu went to stand near Kagome. Bankotsu holding his halberd like he had just been fighting while Sesshomaru just stood like he usually did whenever he had fought someone. Calmly and poised. Sango hurried to her hiraikotsu and pulled it out and held it like she was ready to attack but kept herself relaxed. Miroku stood not far from her while Kouga took a stand slightly on the left so that he stood like he had been behind Kagura. Once everyone was in position it looked like Kagura had been surrounded before Kagome's arrow had hit her. Kagome looked at everyone and then nodded and lifted her hand and released the barrier, Sesshomaru, did the same to the poisonous youki that had been surrounding the inside of the barrier, once they were all visible again the buzzing sound of the Saimyosho could be heard as the demon insects started to fly around the clearing high above them, making sure not to get too close. However as soon as they saw what looked like Kagura's remains they retreated in a hurry and once Sesshomaru confirmed that they were gone and none of the insects had stayed behind by hiding Kagome relaxed and let out relieved sigh and started to tremble slightly. She had never felt this kind of fear for Naraku before. Before him raping her, she had feared him, yes, but not enough to make her feel like a weight had been lifted once it has been confirmed that the evil half demon retreated. Bankotsu hugged her gently and she eagerly returned the hug, feeling safe and comforted being in his strong arms. She stayed in the embrace as Ginta and Hakkaku helped Kagura stand up, giving of a small smile at the dumfounded faces of the wolf demon's at how different Kagura looked now in her new look. Now they would have to bury Kagura's kimono and then they would go to Kaede's village to get some rest. The next day, Kagome planned to return to the future with Bankotsu to see if Inu Yasha was okay. For now, she just wanted some peace and quiet. It had been a lot going on after all and they also needed to plan what to do next as well. she also knew that Kouga would want to still take revenge on Kagura and that was something that needed to be handled somehow as well. she didn't go through all of this, planning Kagura´s 'death' just for Kouga to up and kill the woman after all. They also needed to finish their earlier discussion. So, for now they would rest at Kaede's and after a night of good sleep, she and Bankotsu would return home through the well.
